[Q] Fastboot cable where to get in Europe/Germany? - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

Good morning,
in many threads here I found the recommendation to use a fastboot cable. I have recently rooted my Kindle Fire 2, it works like a charm, but I want to install a "true" Android on it because Amazon changed too many things which are annoying me. It's some kind of an Apple device...
But back to my question. Installing a CustomROM without a fastboot cable seems to be NOT RECOMMENDED (or impossible?)
Therefore: Where in Germany (or Europe) can I get a fastboot cable? Is maybe some kind of other cable known to be compatible?

I bought it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20380015#post20380015 and I live in Italy

mine is also from SkOrPn - had it within 4 days - to austria !

You might also try amazon uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0099E59SG.
I don't know if they ship to the rest of europe, but it's worth a try.

I got this one. Delivered in 2 days and works perfectly.

I live in The Netherlands and also ordered my factory cable from SkOrPn. Took 9 days to get it here, but I ordered it during the holidays.

The cable that boots the Kindle Fire into fastboot mode is more generally known and advertised as a Motorola factory cable.

The last things I need are more cables, so I bought an adapter instead which converts your Kindle standard cable to a fastboot cable.. It worked perfectly, managed to brick my KF2 on the first attempt! However, it took a week to arrive by post from the USA to Marseille in France, which was very fast. Shipping is a bit steep, though. Take a look:

Michael.

Yep, you only need to jump pin 1 to pin 4 to make a fastboot cord.

That's the right cable but comes from China. I ordered that EXACT cable.
It'll take forever to get to you. Better off with a SKORPN cable. His are guaranteed too.

If you don't want to wait you can make one yourself easily: Just connect the first pin of the micro USB to the 4th. Worked fine for me.

Don't want to sound offensive, but if that post and attached picture isn't clear enough, you might be best just buying a cable. There have been a few instances of people damaging their kindle when they get the soldering wrong.

[Q] Fastboot / Factory Cable available to buy on Amazon..?

Hello everyone,
I am new to the xda forums (Well, new as in I've just registered), but I've followed your tutorials on how to root and install Android on KF2.
Unfortunately for me, and for a whole bunch of other people, this hasn't worked.
I'm stuck at a red screen. Yeah.. Sucks. What's worse? It's my brother's kindle. He wanted me to install android for him. I keep telling him everything is alright, at the moment he's stuck using my Iconia tablet and my PS3. I want to return it to him good as new ASAP.
I want to buy a fastboot / factory cable for my kindle in order to reset it. However, the only places I can seem to find it is eBay / some guys here on the forums.
My family have an account on Amazon.co.uk, and I have some money left over from christmas. I was wondering, that if someone is currently selling Fastboot / factory cables, could you please put it up on Amazon? For example, on this link:
If someone could put it on Amazon uk for the one time, I will be very grateful.
I am only 15, and I need this cable asap. We have a family credit card and so hopefully I can buy it when it is available. I am sure that there is probably a lot of people in the same position as me, and having it available to buy on amazon would help so much.
(I am from UK, so please make it affordable for me (as well as shipping) otherwise I won't be able to buy it..)
Thanks for reading guys, enjoy the rest of your day
I tried contacting Amazon support. They said I could get a free kindle exchange, but I am two weeks out of my warranty. BOO HOO! D:
Try skorpn. Dude is legit and ships international.

Nexus 7 2013 USB otg recommendation?

First of all sorry for my bad spelling I'm from Puerto Rico (I talk Spanish )
I'm new to this and I want to know what or which USB otg is good
(from what i read this cable is for connecting keyboards, pen drives, mouse etc.) Correct me if I'm wrong. The point is I don't know which one is the ideal for this things if somebody post amazon links I will appreciate it.
I found one in a old thread of nexus 7 but it cant be shipped to my country (Puerto Rico)

I got this one, great quality.
And I have this one so I can use an OTG device whilst charging (needs a kernel with OTG+Charge support).
Amazon says it ships to your country, with the exception of some hazardous products.
I use ebay. Paid $2 for one from china. Arrived quick, works
Mdamaged
So the second one need root right? The first doesn't ?

Well, you need an unlocked bootloader for the second (in order to flash a kernel that can support OTG+USB charging), and you would need to install (or boot to) a custom recovery in order to flash said kernel, that being said, root can be useful with both in order to use stickmount, but you do not need root for either for normal use.
So I'd get the second one, since it will function like the first one without a supported kernel, they are both OTG, it's just that the second one lets you plug in your charger to charge it at the same time (and your kernel supports it), and powers the OTG device, if the kernel you have is stock, for example, the second one will behave just like the first one.
I have both because I got the first one before knowing that OTG+Charge existed...and it never hurts having extras...I also use a powered hub with the second one so I can charge the N7, power whatever OTG devices (multiple) at the same time.
Very useful information thanks. I really like that double use but I'm going to get the first one since I'm going to do the basic stuff.
But I'll will consider the second one for a future use.
Thanks a lot. I just order it on amazon. Again thanks!

No problem, glad to help.
I use these. The straight is great for keyboards and mice, two-pack for under $2.
http://dx.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774
This right-angled is great for keeping small USB flash drives against the tablet's edge, sometimes $3.99, today $1.99.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7" X43Z60 Demo Unit help

Hi,
I recently bought a Kindle Fire HD X43Z60 from the electrical retailer I work at for an absolute bargain price BUT I forgot about the demo mode on it. Now in many of our other tablets at work it's fairly simple to uninstall demo modes but seemingly not the KFHD, and after reading MANY forums and threads and watching LOTS of youtube videos I cannot find a straightforward and also up-to-date way to basically re-install the OS.
I am using Mac OS X Mavericks to do this but can get access to a windows 7 PC if necessary. I've also seen some debate about the success rates of the fastboot cables.
I really want to get this working so I can gift it to someone else especially as it was such a bargain.
Many thanks in advance!

You simply need a fastboot cable. There's an adapter that is even nicer you can just plug in-between a normal cable and the kindle that does the same thing here: http://shop.teamblackhat.info/Factory-Adapters-motadapt.htm
Now here's where i have to ask, is this the 2013 or 2012 kindle hd? You can tell based on if it has a camera. If it does its a 2012, if it doesn't, its a 2013. The 2012 can be restored to a normal os via kindle fire first aid, whereas we just worked out a way to restore a kindle fire hd 2013 so the script just came out i think.

Hi, it has a camera on the front but none on the back so it must be the 2012 model so i just need the adapter then? whats the process once i have the adapter?
thanks for your help
Yes you just need an adapter, once you have that it will kick it into fastboot mode. You may need the drivers in my signature once it is in fastboot mode. Once you have the drivers installed use kindle fire first aid to restore the kindle. Once it does that you should have a fully working os and the ability to flash 2nd bootloader +twrp and another os like cm so you can have a complete android tablet.

hello
did you manage to fix this? i have the same problem having bought a ' 13 ex-demo unit from john lewis earlier this year (without being informed, despite a lengthy conversation with an amazon rep (!) about the pros and cons of fire hd vs paperwhite, that it was going to be like this). i got a fastboot cable made up but it doesn't enable the fastboot. i am interested that you comment that there have been reports of the cables not working. thanks

What does demo mode not allow you to do?
Can you not copy the update to the KF as per the factory reset options on Amazon's support site?

Don't have a HD, only a Fire 2, but I would have thought you could just flash stock firmware again.

Still worth it?

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about getting a ouya so I can use it to play android games/watch videos on my tv with it (and I will install cm11 on it) I can get a ouya for 70 euros , but here is the problem I have a pretty old TV and yes it doesn't have HDMI... Can I use a HDMI to VGA converter for it? If not I can use my parents' TV
Is it still worth it ( worth 70 Euros?)
Thanks,
Noahvt

Weather it is worth it or not is up to you...but I can confirm that you can use an HDMI to VGA adapter with no problems. I'm doing that exact thing with my Ouya and an older computer monitor.

Well I found out that my country only sells the 1st ouya model ever made :/ I went to the ouya EU shop and found out that the ouya 16gb hasn't been in stock for a while the 8gb version on the website looks interesting too but is it the newer version too? It has the ouya logo on top of the power button

Fairly certain that is just the regular 8gb model. The logo is prob not printed on...prob supposed to represent the unit being powered on since it does light up. The only variants I know of are the 16gb ones (a white and a black one) other than storage...same hardware.

There is a newer version than that with an additional antenna. I don't know where you are located but if you have access to amazon they have both for sale. The newer one is $10 more in the us.

I'm not sure if I'd buy one one at this point, I have one and I've been trying to figure out how to get a custom recovery on it, I do have the latest firmware on it (chupacabra + hotfix) which is not allowing me to install cwm.... So I can't install CM11 on it. I'm going to try changing the build prop and hopefully it allows me to flash cwm to it.
If I didn't buy the Ouya or Amazon Fire Tv, I'd look at G Box MX2.
Is it worth it today? Only if you want Ouya games, through the Ouya store. There are much better options these days - Tegra 3 and 1GB RAM is severely outdated at this point. Not that there aren't a lot of things to do with the Ouya, but it's tablet shopping and picking up a Galaxy Tab 2 or something.
