Hey, I need a USB JIG after I bricked my phone. It really needs to be on Amazon because I have a gift card there. Will someone please sell one to me for around $5 in US?
Thanks!
They are like $7 shipped.
That's fine, I have $10, so that sounds good...

i picked mine up off ebay couple weeks ago for around 7 bux as well , works great !
It might be too late to post this for you, but you can actually make your own jig quite easily. Follow this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0aoabVtPJ8
I actually made one myself, and I have used it ever since. Although it is not going to be as good as the pre-made jig, but hey if you need it to unbrick your phone right away, you can just buy the resistors at RadioShack or any hardware shops near you
Thanks Xx-Ness-xX , great and as i've been looking for
When I had a Vibrant, the jig helped me out of a few jams. Not too long ago, I got the Galaxy S2 as a replacement, so when I started playing around with it, I wanted to make sure I had one close by just in case. The jig is a tiny little thing and I'm prone to losing things, so it was long gone by the time I looked for it again. I decided I'd go cheap and ordered one from an eBay seller in China... that was a mistake. It was definitely cheap, but it didn't do a thing when I plugged it in. It wouldn't turn the phone on and it wouldn't put it into download mode. No sense in returning it either since the return shipping would cost more than I'd get back.
I still wanted to get a working jig and as luck would have it, I found a US based seller when I was looking around for a Kindle Fire factory cable. It turns out that he hand crafts these himself and XDA members give him overwhelmingly positive reviews for his products and service. I sent off a PM and he wrote me back in a flash, I put in my order and had it in 2 days! It's nicely built with a lanyard cord on it so I'm less likely to lose it and most importantly... it works!
I've attached some pictures here with the SkOrPn jig, the Chinese jig (the one without the cord that doesn't work), and my Galaxy S2 with the SkOrPn jig in download mode. It might cost a little more than the cheapest jig that you can find on eBay, but I'm happy to pay a little more for a quality product from a guy who takes pride in the things he makes. FWIW, I'm not affiliated in any way to this seller... I'm just a satisfied customer. He doesn't go out of his way to solicit sales of his products, so I just wanted to get the word out there for anybody that might be looking to purchase a jig for their phone.

Almost forgot... I've exchanged a number of PMs with him this past week and inquired about getting a USB OTG cable adapter. He said that while he doesn't currently make them, he'd certainly consider it if enough people showed some interest. Personally, I think a USB OTG cable is at the top of the list of must-have accessories for this phone, so let him know if you agree with me!
Does this one reset the counter on when booting into download mode?
I have ordered cheaper ones from china that do the job just fine.

The short answer is I do not know. I did flash an OS through ODIN at one point, but never looked at the download count to see if it had even incremented. That phone went back to T-Mobile for display issues before I got a working jig and I've only flashed a recovery with ODIN after that. There appears to be some mixed opinions on whether any jig will reset the counter, but I doubt that one jig would reset it while another would not. YMMV.

I'm glad that worked out for you. In my OP, I was just sharing my experience of ordering a cheap one from China that failed to do anything and then purchasing one from SkOrPn that worked as advertised. FWIW, I'm happy with my SkOrPn purchase even though I paid a bit more. Ultimately, I was glad to provide a small amount of support to a fellow XDA member and getting a quality product in return. To each his own.
I would love to support another member but you might want to have him update his ebay postings. As of now it does not list the jig working for the SG2. If he updates that then I would place an order.

I don't work for the guy, so it's not my job or place for me to tell him to update his listing, but I did send him a PM to have a look at your post. With that said, he states in his ebay listing...
The "SkOrPn JIG" is compatible with all known Galaxy S class phones, including the following:
So, that list is not an exclusive compatibility list... it's an "including, but not limited to" list. There's no difference in jig specs for the different models. If it works in those phones, it will work in the SGH-T989. I've also posted a picture in my OP with the jig in my phone.

Yes I understand it's not your job. I was only suggesting you let him know since you have started this thread in an effort to spread a kind word and support a member.
Also in the event I had ordered a jib from his ebay listing and it did not work I wouldn't have a leg to stand on regarding a refund because the model is not listed but I do understand what you are saying. In closing I'll kindly bow out of the thread since your reply seemed kinda aggressive.
Have a wonderful day.

Well, it wasn't meant to be an "aggressive" post, so I'm sorry if you took it that way. By no means was I yelling and there certainly wasn't any spittle flying at my monitor as I typed my reply.
I was just trying to make things clear and I also understand why you'd want some assurances. Personally, it didn't even occur to me to make sure this particular phone was in that list before I ordered. If you have reservations about it, I suggest you send him PM. I'm sure he'll vouch for his product and tell you that it will work in this phone. Good luck!
I just bought one.

It is already listed in the eBay ad for SGSII. I have sold over 1900 of these to xda members, teamwhiskey members, edt members and via word of mouth in multiple IRC channel's since 2010 and to date it has not failed on any samsung phone, the only failures have been phones with corrupted bootloaders a.k.a hard bricks. Also you said SG2 and I'm not aware if any SG2 devices so I can't list that device. All Samsung Galaxy S and SII series smartphones use the same resistance value for Download Mode as far as I know including the latest Google Nexus.
Thanks to the OP for getting the word out on my premium high quality Download Mode JIGs. There is NO OTHER JIG made as good as this one PERIOD

No worries, it's all good.
Sent a thanks hit your way.
It has come to my attention that some devices do and some don't have the Counter Reset feature. It is up to the purchaser to know if their phone works or not with that feature as I only guarantee Download Mode. Apparently the i727 or T727 (lol not sure which it is now) does not have that feature yet it is based on the SGS2 internals.
What is even more disturbing is I can not find any information that suggests the T989 works with even download mode. I found this Q&A that seems to suggest that Download Mode works but Counter resetting does not. However again, lol, I am sure I have had customers with a TMO t989 purchase my JIG and they were happy as can be, so Im not sure if they ever tried the counter reset thingy. And my tester Alexea sold her SGS2 to get the Gnex.
Please if anyone can let me know for sure one way or the other I would appreciate it... I get emails all the time asking me about the SGS2 phones and the Custom Binary Counter reset feature and that feature is not present on my T959 test phone.
EDIT: kinfauns says his T989 definitely goes into Download Mode, but he does not know if it works with the counter reset feature of the device. Also, all my ebay listings have been updated to include the T989 and many other devices.
You should offer local pick up in Albuquerque and I would buy from you.

Needed a jig (you never know when you'll need it) and the lanyard is a pretty cool feature. Also, I didn't trust the ones from China. Just couldn't bring myself to order something that was such an unknown (no matter the low cost).
Just ordered a Skorpn. Thanks go out to the OP and SkOrPn!

The Chinese ones are not much different, in fact its the same exact connector and the only difference is the Chinese jigs are not tested to make sure the pins in question make contact, and so there is about a 15% failure rate, or even higher maybe. Someone like myself test each port before I even solder the resistor onto it, so I can weed out the bad apples and throw them away. They also do not test it on an actual phone to make sure it goes into download mode, and I do
Hence why they are so extremely cheap.
So is this jig for when the key combination doesn't work?
I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned the factory cable in the accessories section. For anybody doing anything more than using the Kindle Fire in the stock configuration, I think the factory cable is a must-have accessory. It makes so many tasks so much simpler to perform. Getting out of bootloops, flashing a ROM for the first time, or unbricking... they all get reduced to at most 2 or 3 steps... all without any need to troubleshoot. If everybody had a factory cable (and knew how to use it) before they started tinkering with their device, the general section wouldn't be packed full of help requests.
For those who are unfamiliar with the factory cable, it's a special USB cable that will put the Kindle Fire directly into fastboot mode when it starts up. This is important because the hardest part of fixing most problems on the Kindle Fire is first getting the device into fastboot mode. Even in the worst bricking incidents... if you have any working bootloader, use the factory cable to get into fastboot, flash a new bootloader/recovery/ROM, reboot and the thing is fixed. The less familiar you are with how all of this stuff works, the more useful the factory cable will be in your toolbox.
You can make your own from a generic USB cable if you have a soldering iron and some time. I personally could have gone the DIY route, but I decided to purchase one from a fellow XDA member. He makes them himself and really takes pride in the quality of his products.
Product Information
It's saved me once and been a great timesaver in many other instances.

He also said in a different thread that he was in the middle of a move, so I guess he's trying to get everything in order before starting up again. No reason you couldn't send him a PM anyway and get in line.. I'm sure it will be anytime now.

By default, outgoing PMs are not saved to the sent box. You either have to check the box down at the bottom for every message you send, or there's a setting you can change somewhere in your profile.

I'm not trying to be a cheerleader for SkOrPn's products, but for one thing, the eBay listing quotes 20-25 days before delivery. Even with SkOrPn's production delays, I'm guessing you'd get his before you get that delivery from Hong Kong.
However, the more important point here is that numerous XDA members have vouched for his product quality and customer service. If for some reason that cable from China doesn't work out, you'd be sitting on your hands waiting for it to get shipped back (likely at your expense) before they'd send you a replacement, or fronting another $9 in the hopes that the next one works. I had a similar experience with another gadget I ordered from China and not having it work. Other users in the KF forums have noted that SkOrPn has gone out of his way to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Of course, how you spend your money is entirely up to you, but if I was in the market for one and I was given the choice, I think I would choose to spend the extra $6 for the peace of mind and insurance against potential frustration... to each his own.

Received my cable yesterday (ordered it when I made that post on the 11th of April). Works perfectly well.
Thank you for starting this post. I've been seeing "factory cable" everywhere on this forum and didn't have a clue what they were talking about. I just figured it meant I had to buy a cable - not that what the cable itself does is special!
Glad I used the search feature, finally, to find this out.

Yup, I just ordered one, 9.99$, 1.50$ shipping to Canada. It may take a while but it's cheap. Cheap enough to take the risk. The alternative is 47$ for the 3ft cable. The ebay one is only 2.5 ft, but that's better then the 1.5ft one.
Can someone look at this and tell me if the cable included with this deal is a "factory cable"?

I highly recommend buying the cable from SkOrPn. I bricked my KF and was too impatient to wait for the cable from China off of ebay, so when I ran across these forums I immediately ordered one from him. Ordered on Monday and had it by Thursday. It doesnt look homemade and worked great. Thanks SkOrpN!
I also bricked my Kindle during rooting. Using TWRP I accidentally wiped the system after I installed stock firmware so there was only stock bootloader. I had a cable that I purchased form DealExtreme it turned out that the plug can be easily opened so one can solder the 4-th pin to +5V.
If someone is willing to wait few weeks for the delivery this is the link for a cheap cable that can be easly modded to be a factory cable.
I can't post a link but do to deal extreme and search for sku 48924

Your very much welcome.... The ONLY real difference between mine and the ones from China is I actually test mine (three times during build) and the chinese slave labor do not bother testing because they know there is only a 10% chance of shipping a bad one. Why spend money on testing equipment and more slaves?
USB booting is easier than going and buying a factory cable IMO. I did it yesterday and it was much better than buying a cable and waiting for it to come in the mail.

Well, you're certainly entitled to that opinion, but from what I've seen on this forum, it's not one that's likely to be shared by most users. For most people, having to open up the case, risk damage to the device, and violate the terms of warranty is going to be beyond their comfort level. Besides, my suggestion is to have one around in case something goes bad, not order one after the fact. Just as people use a case to protect it before accidents occur, having a factory cable shouldn't be all that different. If you had one around, you would never consider USB boot to get into fastboot mode except as a last resort.
I was doing some research to buy a GNEX since i been waiting for the GS3 and will not be quadcore in the us i didnt want to be stuck with a phone with basically no updates and touchwiz :S
So i decided to buy a GNEX but the question is.
why is it that it cost only 399 unlocked in the play store, but in ebay will be 450-500?
Profit?
Sent from the future.
The ebay phones have been there for months, but then one day, out of the blue, Google blindsided all the sellers by offering it direct from Google, with a warranty, for less than they're charging. I think we'll see fewer and fewer auctions, and I think the sellers are hoping they can actually sell the phones before more people know about the Google deal.
As to why Google is doing it, I read somewhere on these forums that Google might be doing this in an attempt to break the subsidy model in the US. If that is their goal, it's noble and I wish them all success.

Because people need to make money. They're buying them from the same sources (or another step away from those sources) and they don't buy in big enough bulk. Every step of the way someone has to take a cut (including eBay, remember). They have to charge more to make a profit.
Econ 101?
Thanks for the info guys. I thought the ebay ones where diferent like diferent hardware or something.

This is probably not the right place to post, I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to, but time is of the essence, so here we go!
I've had a G3 since release, and a week ago, while out with some friends, an idiot tipped a 20liter amount of water over me while I was holding my phone. Phone? Now dead...

As a MMTD student I have "Java" and "Android Development" as some of my classes. I'd love to have a Oneplus One as my dev-device!
So, does anyone out there have an invite to spare, for a student in desperate need for a new phone, hopefully the Oneplus One?

Some of them have ColorOS however it's a simple flash to change to CM11s - regarding warranty or issues.. it's a straight send back and swap from what I have seen so far. People have actually been having worse luck with OPO directly.
Remember China don't need invites, hence them being freely available.
Hmm... Well I think I'm gonna see if I find an invite in the coming week, hopefully I do... I'm just so concerned, in fear of it being a "fake"

No fakes around as it's a Chinese company anyway have a look in the OPO forum here and read people's reviews... They don't tend to pirate their own stuff. Good luck with an invite :good: they all come from the same warehouse anyway lol

for the pricing as well!
