Books to learn development - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys
Figured I'd post this in qa. Was wondering if anyone new of some good books to learn development. Such as stuff for theming and apps. Downloads so far
App inventor for android: build your own apps
And
Xda developers android hackers toolkit the complete guide to rooting Rom and theming
I'm pretty versed in rooting and all that but want to try to get into building. Any good recommendations to read

Im the new guy.

Good morning all.
I'm brand new to Android and similarly new to xda. I'm here to learn as much as I can, so I will ask questions if don't find my answer via search (I like the video intro). I may be new to xda, but not new to internet forums. Im posting in this section because I have this phone.
If I can help I will. I have a background in telecommunications, network security and some programming.

Thanks for the introduction "New Guy". Glad to see you on board. I'm the "Old Guy". Unfortunately I have no programming experience or dev experience, but I have extensive knowledge of Android and I try to answer everyone's question especially if I know the answer. Any questions? Lol

Welcome aboard! If you have any questions like you said that you can't find in the forum feel free to ask in the appropriate section. If you have coding experience as far as development you should definitely jump in on the DEV section to get this thing rooted. Either way hope you enjoy your stay at the wonderful XDA!
(aww yeauh, that rhymed )
Welcome! I am new to XDA and relatively new to Android. I share the same background as you, I think we're in the right place!

Welcome. I'm also new to the Galaxy S2 but not to XDA.

[Q] Compiling Android from Source for Evo 4G

I'd like to start poking around a bit with the Android source; but had a few questions and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I just watched XDA's blog regarding compiling Android, but it was all for devices that are made for the native code - and as we all know, the Evo is not one of those.
So I figured before I jump into this and go through all the trouble of setting things up and all, I wanted to ask - what would I need to do differently to compile a flashable zip for my Evo? Obviously I can't go straight from the 4.0.3 source, so where would I be able to find a compatible repository for the Evo?
If I could find something that would work to begin with without any tinkering then that would be great (And then I could break it later while I learn and play around a bit )
Search for a thread in the dev forum by lithid-CM. Its a guide and a good place to start.
Good luck.

Where to start developing?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to start developing for this device when it's unlocked and has an (hopefully) AOSP kitchen for it.
I have a couple of questions though:
Where do I start learning how to use the android SDK?
Should I learn C++ or Java? I would think Java, and I guess it would depend on Kernel or OS development.
All links are appreciated, though videos would be greatly appreciated.
And yes, I am doing some research on my own
Thanks!

[Q] Looking to port

I've found quite a few guides and tutorials for porting roms, but still kinda confused :what:. Would love to port some crazy roms to our phones. Heck, I would love to cook a rom too, but it all seems overwhelming :banghead:. Don't exactly know where to start, even though I already know about Chef Central. Is there any guides that describe things with easy to understand processes? Thanks in advanced everyone.

Take a look at the links here, not necessarily porting but they come into play with anything android

New To Android Development

I want to start developing for Android. I want to create and port ROMS, specifically for the OPPO Find 7. If anyone could give me a reference as to what to learn and other things I need to know it would be appreciated. On another note I am not a total newb to technology, just to android development. I know basic programming but no low level stuff. Thanks.
Google is your friend, search and you will be rewarded.
