i have heard alot of hate for moto blur reading reviews on tech blogs and in forums which has always put me off a motorola. however now i have the defy i actually think that blur improves the android experience since its not massivly skinned and you can still tell its android but with a few nicer tweaks
granted the home screens are a heap of **** but nothing that cant be solved but .ADW launcher and the new ex is phenomenal
also ive heard it is a bit of a data hogger but just set it to wi fi only and job done
appart from that their are alot of nice improvments over stock
I think the social network intergration is brilliant and better and easyer than stock
plus the keyboard is much better than stock and better than gingerbreads aswell
the usb managment is better
stock wi fi teathering
i think nicer lock screen
better camera app
better sync with computer and that in browser thing is very nice
all in all i think moto have done a nice job and dont think it deserves the bad stick it gets
what are your thaughts?
Nope!! me to!
Isn't bad at all!! but... it's kite laggy...
but... LauncherPRO or ADW are more complet than default BLUR.
BLUR Consumes a looot of memory by the face, need a good optimitzation.
It's ugly though
Also I'm not sure if the keyboard has anything to do with Motoblur? The Defy does come with the Swype keyboard pre-installed though, you might be referring to that.
The only moto keyboard I have seen is on the chinese rom.
I like the messing tools and widget...some other stuff as well....if it didn't bog down the phone so much it would be okay.

The 'Multi-touch keyboard' app is from Motorola and defiantly one of the best I've used...
I like motoblur in general. Could go higher on the "cute" factor, but it gets the job done.

yeah i think the home screens and widgets dont look ideal and could use a bit of polish their seems to be little consistency their perhaps
I like Motoblur as a whole. The social networking widgets are great, but there's some minor things missing. I'd like to be able to divide the applications into categories such as LG's Optimus phones (I've an Optimus One as well). I tried the LG launcher on the Defy and it works good, however I prefer the Motorola widgets.
ADW feels a little too heavy for my taste.
Swype is great though, not really a Motorola only feature but still awesome that it's built in. Compared to HTC's phones... well I'd like to see some HTC Sense system with the pinch to zoom - viewing all homescreens at once feature.

thats available in adw
could you post the lg launcher ive never used an lg android and was close to getting the optimus 1 just fancied the defy a tiny but more
Well, the interface is not that bad. I don't think it is ugly. But I found it unresponsive and laggy, at best. So I went for go launcher.
The message app is quite nice, but I don't use it because I miss the gmail threaded view.
The same goes for the social network app. Links cannot be opened directly making the app completely unuseful, since I have to use another one or the browser to read the complete post.
News widget does not support google reader.
Another big defect in my opinion is the missing opportunity to update system apps. For instance amazon mp3 does not support my locale, and I cannot update it.
Moreover system apps are triggered even if they are not used, sucking system resources. I have installed auto starts and found out it was a complete mess, but cleaning that is a hell of a job, and it's risky.
All in all blur looks unoptimized and half cooked so I think I will go for the deblur rom as soon as I get a win xp machine. I don't feel like experimenting with sbf_flash on linux; in the end this is my first android...

Even if you like Blur, it's impossible to argue against the fact that the implementation is shoddy.
You remove the widgets from the homescreen but it still runs a bunch of processes in the background, absolutely no need to do so.
The likes of the facbook integration in the contacts list is utterly lazy and uesless.
Motorola should offer people the ability to either disable Blur or flash official Blur-free ROMs.
Okay, I know there is an app to select different wallpapers for each screen, and some launchers even support this, but what i want is a little different.. I use 5 screens with 3 as Main/Home... I was wondering if its possible for 2, 3, 4 to be a Live wallpapers, then 1 & 5 as seperate images.
Reasoning: I love my current LWP (eastern something.. with firefly's) and it looks great with all my widgets, but I want screen 5 for my personal stuff, and want a pic of my wife for the background. Screen 1 I wanted for config options, so something like a circuit board or Andy would be more appropriate
Any suggestions?
should note, I'm usng CM7 Nightly #27 if that makes a diff
Is there an app to get regular wallpapers on multiple screen , i mean like a different regular wall paper on each screen ? . I looked in the Market and i only see multiple screen live wallpapers .I'm using a droid X .
I would say the launcher needs to support this which to my knowledge, non of them do. To be honest, having 3 live wallpapers as a background would consume to much battery power, prob 200mA+ which is a lot. You can have a look around and talk to a dev but I doubt there is anything out there.
Ok thanks man .

no i wanted just one live WP spread across screens 2, 3, 4.. like how a normal LiveWP is displayed, and just regular WP's for 1 and 5. I was afraid someone would say it needed launcher support I'm using LauncherPro Plus atm.. maybe it will be added in the future
Ah right, misinterpreted that, sorry. Yeh I don't think nothing like that exists yet. You would have to talk to the dev for LauncherPro or which ever launcher and see if they will add it.
I'm sure there's a couple other threads for this, but I thought one in the AT100/ Thrive section would be neat.
I will also keep adding to this original post.

VTL Launcher

There's many games as well such as the THD game's like Fruit Ninja THD, and games that look good on the big screen like Radiant. Also launcher's like LauncherPro are really neat on phones but just aren't that smooth or fast scrolling wise for tablets.
Hope these apps may make your experience with the Thrive a little more useful, they have for me since we've been getting quite honestly poor support here in Aus.
Btw I'm just looking at app's that aren't for rooted users since I know it's quite new on the Thrive/AT100 and I personally myself don't plan on rooting.

Use VTL Launcher at your own risk. If you check the WEB page, it says it is not compatible with Honeycomb. Some individuals on Toshiba Thrive Forum has reported ending up in a boot loop after installing this. Not all have had this issue. That is why I am saying to use this at you own risk.

Someone on TF posted this site: http://tablified.com/
Ran across the beta of BeyondPod on there...might have to invest in this one.
I have been using it for some time on my Thrive. It did however, cause a boot loop when I set it as the default launcher. Otherwise (knock on wood), it is working fine.

I haven't had any issues with VTL myself, guess I'm just lucky. Btw, does anyone else have a home replacement that is smooth and just as functional on a tab?
I'm using TINYPLAYER for my mp3's.
Its a pure player.
No Art work or search controls. Shows music by file name from folder you set. I actually like it like that. Has shuffle repeat and random. Also another cool feature is font re-size.
But one problem with it don't know if other are having same problem. When using the app and you initiate the g sensor that would reorient the screen the player give error about cant find the SD card. I play music when I drive so this really erks me. Bumps are fine but soon as I turn I get the error. I store my music on the SD card about 10 gigs worth.
where can i get the penpower chinese writing pad that works with thrive??
My Spider Solitaire should work without problems on Thrive: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.solitairespiderhd. It is designed for tablet screens (doesn't work on phones). I'm working on some improvements now (expect them next week). Am also working on another, more advanced game. Writing for Android is fun.

hey all, the not sure why it hasn't been said yet but adw ex works like it was made for the thrive. Very stylish seen transitions and I can't explain how fast it is (you need to try it yourself) it also allows you to use more of the screen unlike the stock. All widgets and are resizable, you can create as many or as little screens (I prefer to have received rather than the standard 5)

Thanks I'll be sure to check it out. I personally wonder how you have so many screens, I can barely fill 3 screens lol.
I installed Adw ex today after trying other stuff that wouldn't work and I really like it. Very smooth and adaptable. Im scared to try the other one, but I am sure they will update it to work with 3.1 soon.

Yeah, I haven't had any problems with the other one but I'm using ADW ex just 'cause it's smoother. But what bugs me is the little icon on the top left. My homescreen is generally black and white themed and the icon just sticks out so much lol.

I have a different tablet, but wanted to say I totally agree! You can disable it with the hide/show action bar widget, however it comes back with a 90° rotation (not 180). I've written anderweb, so hopefully this gets changed.

The new update replaced it with an App Drawer icon which doesn't stick out as much.

I think I'l stop updating this list and there's already multiple websites that have app lists for tablets. Btw, the market link doesn't seem to be working for me.
Samsung introduced a pure breeze launcher..looks kinda nice and smooth.
It's basically focused on organizing instead of multiple homescreens.
That was quite unexpected of Samsung

Yes in the play store
Actually the galaxy store has some good ones. Free too.
Google Pixel's live wall papers works on my phone.
Use Walloop + videos in your gallery to make your own custom LWP's. You can edit your videos with the built-in editor to trim and loop any segment. Pro tip - If you own any AtmosFX Halloween hologram videos, i.e , AtmosFearFx, they look awesome.
