am i the only one who likes moto blur? - Defy General

i have heard alot of hate for moto blur reading reviews on tech blogs and in forums which has always put me off a motorola. however now i have the defy i actually think that blur improves the android experience since its not massivly skinned and you can still tell its android but with a few nicer tweaks
granted the home screens are a heap of **** but nothing that cant be solved but .ADW launcher and the new ex is phenomenal
also ive heard it is a bit of a data hogger but just set it to wi fi only and job done
appart from that their are alot of nice improvments over stock
I think the social network intergration is brilliant and better and easyer than stock
plus the keyboard is much better than stock and better than gingerbreads aswell
the usb managment is better
stock wi fi teathering
i think nicer lock screen
better camera app
better sync with computer and that in browser thing is very nice
all in all i think moto have done a nice job and dont think it deserves the bad stick it gets
what are your thaughts?

Nope!! me to!
Isn't bad at all!! but... it's kite laggy...
but... LauncherPRO or ADW are more complet than default BLUR.
BLUR Consumes a looot of memory by the face, need a good optimitzation.

It's ugly though
Also I'm not sure if the keyboard has anything to do with Motoblur? The Defy does come with the Swype keyboard pre-installed though, you might be referring to that.

The only moto keyboard I have seen is on the chinese rom.
I like the messing tools and widget...some other stuff as well....if it didn't bog down the phone so much it would be okay.

The 'Multi-touch keyboard' app is from Motorola and defiantly one of the best I've used...

I like motoblur in general. Could go higher on the "cute" factor, but it gets the job done.

yeah i think the home screens and widgets dont look ideal and could use a bit of polish their seems to be little consistency their perhaps

I like Motoblur as a whole. The social networking widgets are great, but there's some minor things missing. I'd like to be able to divide the applications into categories such as LG's Optimus phones (I've an Optimus One as well). I tried the LG launcher on the Defy and it works good, however I prefer the Motorola widgets.
ADW feels a little too heavy for my taste.
Swype is great though, not really a Motorola only feature but still awesome that it's built in. Compared to HTC's phones... well I'd like to see some HTC Sense system with the pinch to zoom - viewing all homescreens at once feature.

thats available in adw
could you post the lg launcher ive never used an lg android and was close to getting the optimus 1 just fancied the defy a tiny but more

Well, the interface is not that bad. I don't think it is ugly. But I found it unresponsive and laggy, at best. So I went for go launcher.
The message app is quite nice, but I don't use it because I miss the gmail threaded view.
The same goes for the social network app. Links cannot be opened directly making the app completely unuseful, since I have to use another one or the browser to read the complete post.
News widget does not support google reader.
Another big defect in my opinion is the missing opportunity to update system apps. For instance amazon mp3 does not support my locale, and I cannot update it.
Moreover system apps are triggered even if they are not used, sucking system resources. I have installed auto starts and found out it was a complete mess, but cleaning that is a hell of a job, and it's risky.
All in all blur looks unoptimized and half cooked so I think I will go for the deblur rom as soon as I get a win xp machine. I don't feel like experimenting with sbf_flash on linux; in the end this is my first android...

Even if you like Blur, it's impossible to argue against the fact that the implementation is shoddy.
You remove the widgets from the homescreen but it still runs a bunch of processes in the background, absolutely no need to do so.
The likes of the facbook integration in the contacts list is utterly lazy and uesless.
Motorola should offer people the ability to either disable Blur or flash official Blur-free ROMs.

[Survey] Don't like MotoBlur.. add a post in here

hey guys.. i'd like to contact motorola and tell them ...
-> what a great phone they built (DEVY) but I also want to ask them
-> what they hell did they tried to do when building MotoBlur? and why they don't create anything more appropriate for such a great phone?
so it came into my mind.. just to get a number of people.. (just the number - no nick- no realnames) which agree to my opinion.. to tell them, that I'm not alone... :=)
a plan?
best regards,
-
I Like the idea behind motoblur, but i think it could have been implemented better. Also, i have a suspicion that Motoblur is the reason that we wont be getting android 2.2 unti Q2 next year, and thats a terrible thing :O. If they could speed up the android updates then i would love it :L
Well, after spending 3 years with iOS and 5+ months using SenseUI Motoblur came as a real shock. How a company can spend so little on software development/support in this day & age is beyond me?
It's like they got halfway through, realised it was rubbish/pointless and stopped. Mixing stock menus/calander app etc with the ropey launcher/lock screen/'my first widget' design is very confusing.
Still, at least the multi touch keyboard is good and errr.. DLNA and wifi hotspotting I guess.

I know what you mean lol. The thing with the wifi hotspot app though is that it makes you doubt if you can use it. I turned it on and it said to make sure my network allows it??? , This part of motoblur caused a bit of a panic haha. The swype keyboard is brilliant but it took me a while to understand how it works haha
Blur is generally crap especially the launcher, however some of the apps - the email app for instance for me is very good, its the best email app I've used.

but i have to confirm.. and also explain i also do like some apps the music app, the gallery, the keyboard (like sarge78 told us above) works perfectly -- the text when a new word is added to the user dictionary stays a little bit toooooooooo long , but typing is perfect...) so some applications are really great.
but the whole theme^^ really strange..
(i also like the general design, black and the red background when something is pressed.. but one thing the sms button on a contact, is big enough but I think it's optimized for chinese people, or at least the smallest fingers in the world out there )
Gosh, Captain America! Is this poll loaded or what!?
I feel divided for Blur.
The launcher is not bad, but there's better elsewhere... lot better.
I don't use all the social stuff (don't have facebook or twitter account, etc) so I can't really say if it's good or worst than a stock android.
But I like some apps loaded with Blur: DLNA, Voicecall, music player, etc
What I really dislike: all the blur services automaticly loaded even I don't want to use all this stuff...
I want the choice to load what I need

This! I like my new Defy. but I hate that i starts lots of stuff that I don't want/use. I don't care about the stuff that come preloaded but don't start because the phone got loads of space for my apps
I definitely have mixed feelings about Blur. Some of it I really love, but it bogs so much and in the end I would rather not have it if everything is going to run so slow and our updates are going to take so long. All in all the defy is a great device, but if Moto doesn't step it up this time with updates I am done after this.
Voted dislike. The very first app I downloaded was LauncherProPlus. Bye Bye blur!

Quoted for great justice.
I just don't use Blur, which would be fine and wouldn't bother me either way, if only it didn't insist on loading all it's processes anyway.
Uhh just checked the number of processes motobloat is running...
52!
My stock desire is running 28... No wonder it lags so badly at times.
+1 for installing a different launcher (LauncherPro for me, thanks!) as the first thing after getting the phone
Dear MotoBloat: Please go to hell.
If I ever meet the guy who approved Motoblur I'll tear out his kneecaps with a rusty... no wait... I'll force him to use a stock Motorola phone for 24 hours! MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Have you tried adding your email(s) to Gmail? I have done that for all my other email address', and it works great. I only have to check one inbox to get all my emails from four different screen names. I use @Gmail, @AOL, @Hotmail, and @MSN.com. If you have to reply, or forward from one of your other address's you can choose to send from Gmail, or the one that it was sent to. You can also tag them, so you know what email is what in your inbox. Very handy.

yeah done that in the past. i only really use 1 email account with various aliases (blueyonder.co.uk). Via gmail i could view my mails but wouldn't be able to file them/transfer between my imap folders. i suppose i could just create imap folders in gmail but cant be arsed lol. Cheers for posting the tip.
oh and i dont need push email really, a check once every 30 mins is good for me
Great hardware but after several months with 2.2 on my magic, 2.1 with motoblurp on the defy is a big disappointment give me stock android 2.2 any day.

[Q] Whats so good about HTC Sense?

I've tried a few ROMs and I've finally settled on CM7. I like to use a DPI of 200 or lower and when I do this on a Sense ROM, Sense can't scale properly and it looks weird. I also like to have only one or two home screens with all my icons on and twitter and facebook widgets, but on Sense I can only put a few icons on and its full.
So my question to everyone is:
What do you personally find good about HTC Sense?
There are so many great things about sence. The widgets, the dialer, the easy faceboook and twitter sync with contacts. Sence is easly skinable, ooooh and the sms widget is the only dedicated sms widget ive seen for android lol
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
i like the widgets but the dialer misses something very important searching by the number ie. sense dialer search for 010445567 is found but search for 44556 isnt found in the list.
and also i dont like people application it doesnt allow me to add more details in number unless its a google contact wich i dont like bec i dont want to store my numbers online.
ie. if its a phone contanct type i cant add mobile 1 and mobile 2 labels for the same contact, but i found an app thats free and does this even for phone contact called phonebook 2.0.
I prefer more home screens, nice big and bold so that its touch friendly.
I know my phone can do a lot if pretty high computational stuff so my brain doesn't need to when navigating around it.
I had cm Rom ex launcher etc etc before on the hero and it felt like there was too many options to edit. Great if you know exactly what you like. But its such a hassle to go through all the possibilities and adjustments. Not to mention hassle of messing it up and correcting.
It's a bit like heavily modifying a car.. its fun, its about identity, its about the fastest or the prettiest or coolest, however there's a lot of time spent behind it plus it will have its practicality drawbacks.
There's nothing wrong with the bog standard look with a few minor easy tweaks, much less time consuming.

I just like the functionality and the widgets from HTC Sense.
It is like last polishing for android.
Personally the only thing I like about sense is the widgets, apart from that sense is a bloatware, just the same as all the other OEM overlays ie. touchwiz, timescape etc.
I think HTC should spend more time innovating hardware rather then spending its resources on software. The main issue I see is that we have to wait so long for software updates just because HTC need to put there crap on top.
Sense has the best integration of Facebook. I can easily see my Facebook events and birthdays in my Android calendar with Sense.
With aosp you need to fart around exporting and importing calendars or using third party apps.
Not important for everyone but it is for me.

Yeah that is what you immediately notice when going from Sense to AOSP.
For me it just provides everything I need, it's very smooth and it's consinstant throughout sense programs. I've tried other launchers but I found myself going very quickly back to sense.

HTC does not manufacture the components that go into their phones, so there is no way they can put more resourses in innovating the hardware. Processors are by Qualcomm, screens are by Sharp (maybe?), cameras, etc. all made by other manufacturers. HTC assembles them and puts their software on top. So their selling point is a/ Sense, b/ Quality and c/ Support. All of them unsurpassed by any other. And before anyone has anything to say about HTC's support, let me ask you when will the SGS receive Gingerbread officialy? We are set for Q2 and it will be a fiasco for Samsung if the SGS (which is basicaly NS minus the NFC) receives the update later than the Desire series.
To answer the OP question - everything. Well everything minus the fact that you can't choose not to use Sense. In WM Sense (TouchFLO 3D) could be "turned off" but not in Android. Not that I would turn it off, but it's always nice to have that option. Anyway, I think the ring volume control is briliant (quiet ring on phone pickup and shutting the ring on phone flip), as I receive a lot of calls and this is perfect for managing your rings when in a meeting, I love the BIG phone button on the bottom (it's a phone after all, so why should it be difficult to open the dialer), I like the Facebook integration (though I might be the only person on that planet that actually hates Facebook) - I use it only for the big updated contact picture when someone calls me. And don't get me started on the widgets - have you noticed how almost all the widgets on the market try (not that successfuly) to copy HTC's? OK there is one more thing I don't like in Sense - lack of landscape. Especialy for the Car Panel and the Locations navi software. But other than that... WOW.

So you are saying HTC are the lesser of two evils? I am not sure about hardware support but software support for all HTC phones is nothing short of pathetic. If and when the Desire series gets Gingerbread then we may be able to re-evaluate HTC, but until then they (and most other Android manufactures) are still miles behind Apple in software support.
I am very pleased with sense and most important for me too is easy integration of facebook and twitter contacts. also all the other theme and skin thing i do like it although sense makes phone overloaded but why do i care my dhd is perfectly capable of handling it with huge RAM and processing horse power .

If you call HTC's support pathetic, then you'll be out of words to describe other manufacturers' support. When did the SGS get Foyo? What about SE's... well maybe their department is also called "support" but that word has nothing to do with reallity. Apple is a totally different ball game. They do not (yes that's right - NOT) compete directly with other manufacturers. Noone else makes iOS devices (and knowing Apple, noone will) so there is no competition for them. They can afford to put so much resourses in support because they actually make money out of it. If you had the original iPhone and have spent few hundred dollars for software over the years you'll move to another iPhone. Apple keeps the customers tied to their own AppStore (the only way you can install applications without jailbreaking) and that way you keep buying their devices. What happens if HTC puts so much resourses in support? They fall behind the other Android phone manufacturers and eventually are out of business. No company would go that way. Fierce competition unfortunatelly leads to bad support (yes HTC's support is bad, but still the best ). If they don't focus on newer hardware, you'll buy your next phone from Samsung, or LG, or whoever and still keep your applications.
There is much to be said about that subject, but this is not the place. This is the place to discuss Sense.

I realise HTC doesn't manufacture all of its components, but have you seen the new MWC 11 HTC lineup? Pathetic in my opinion, no innovation at all, and that HTC flyer tablet is way behind than what the competition is offering, and not even being released with honeycomb.
Like I said the only good thing about sense are the widgets, apart from that theres nothing else that I cant do on AOSP that I can on sense.
My problem with sense is that HTC keep adding and adding stuff to it, most of it is useless anyway, ie locations is pointless when you already have google maps. There will come to a point where we'll be waiting for software updates for ages, compared to something like the nexus series. Its a good way of adding value and differentiating from the competition but is there really a need to keep on adding bloatware with every version of android that comes out?

Locations is a great software (apart from the stupidity to make it work in portrait only). You have Google Navigation, but here in Bulgaria (and many other countries) we don't have it. Also the "offline" Google Maps were launched after the release of the DHD, so it's not really an option when traveling abroad. I actualy liked it so much I was going to buy the license for navigation, but the lack of landscape made me reconsider and went for iGo insted (I like Locations more than iGo though). The best thing in HTC is that you don't have to wait for the official updates - the community support thanks to this great forum is much, MUCH better. My Touch HD two years after I bought it, still had the latest Sense (though I had to turn some of the features off due to the weaker hardware), with the latest 6.5 WM build. My point is you don't have to wait for HTC to bring updates for the DHD (it has almost gone through the half of it's "support life" anyway) you can always have the newest software ported from the next phone. Nexus series will always get the official updates of the core functionality first, but CM7 was released before Google updated the N1, so in a way we got Gingerbread even before Google's own phone . You can always have AOSP soon enough, but they will never have Sense.
About MWC... yes HTC presented weaker phones than the competition, but until the OS and the applications are optimised for dual-cores there is no need for them. HTC is not going to be the inovative company this year, that's for sure. So what? I'm not going to buy a new phone this year anyway .
I really like the alarm app which comes with HTC Sense. My girlfriend has a Galaxy S, and the alarm clock on HTC sense is way better.
- Best interface
- Animations are fantastic
- Clock , mp3 widgets , calendar , weather etc. - Best i've seen
- Fast , Clean
HTC SENSE - the best thing about android .. !
For me its is 3 things:
The recent apps in the notification menu, i use that dozens of times a day. All phones should have something similar (long press doesnt count!)
The text selection and cut + paste implementation. Its awesome.
The unobtrusive facebook contacts integration.
I dont use the sense launcher as there are too many features that it lacks. ( I use ADW EX).
But overall the sense features are useful enough that i dont want to switch to CM7.
Don't forget the awesome spinning wheels when setting an alarm our appointment. The vanilla + - buttons are boring in comparison.

(It's like ADW 'cept much more smooth on a tablet though some users have had boot loop issues.)
There's many games as well such as the THD game's like Fruit Ninja THD, and games that look good on the big screen like Radiant. Also launcher's like LauncherPro are really neat on phones but just aren't that smooth or fast scrolling wise for tablets.
Hope these apps may make your experience with the Thrive a little more useful, they have for me since we've been getting quite honestly poor support here in Aus.
Btw I'm just looking at app's that aren't for rooted users since I know it's quite new on the Thrive/AT100 and I personally myself don't plan on rooting.

and

Use VTL Launcher at your own risk. If you check the WEB page, it says it is not compatible with Honeycomb. Some individuals on Toshiba Thrive Forum has reported ending up in a boot loop after installing this. Not all have had this issue. That is why I am saying to use this at you own risk.

Thanks for the info, will add to opening.
Someone on TF posted this site: http://tablified.com/
Ran across the beta of BeyondPod on there...might have to invest in this one.
I have been using it for some time on my Thrive. It did however, cause a boot loop when I set it as the default launcher. Otherwise (knock on wood), it is working fine.

I haven't had any issues with VTL myself, guess I'm just lucky. Btw, does anyone else have a home replacement that is smooth and just as functional on a tab?
I'm using TINYPLAYER for my mp3's.
Its a pure player.
No Art work or search controls. Shows music by file name from folder you set. I actually like it like that. Has shuffle repeat and random. Also another cool feature is font re-size.
But one problem with it don't know if other are having same problem. When using the app and you initiate the g sensor that would reorient the screen the player give error about cant find the SD card. I play music when I drive so this really erks me. Bumps are fine but soon as I turn I get the error. I store my music on the SD card about 10 gigs worth.
where can i get the penpower chinese writing pad that works with thrive??
My Spider Solitaire should work without problems on Thrive: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.solitairespiderhd. It is designed for tablet screens (doesn't work on phones). I'm working on some improvements now (expect them next week). Am also working on another, more advanced game. Writing for Android is fun.

hey all, the not sure why it hasn't been said yet but adw ex works like it was made for the thrive. Very stylish seen transitions and I can't explain how fast it is (you need to try it yourself) it also allows you to use more of the screen unlike the stock. All widgets and are resizable, you can create as many or as little screens (I prefer to have received rather than the standard 5)

Thanks I'll be sure to check it out. I personally wonder how you have so many screens, I can barely fill 3 screens lol.
I installed Adw ex today after trying other stuff that wouldn't work and I really like it. Very smooth and adaptable. Im scared to try the other one, but I am sure they will update it to work with 3.1 soon.

Yeah, I haven't had any problems with the other one but I'm using ADW ex just 'cause it's smoother. But what bugs me is the little icon on the top left. My homescreen is generally black and white themed and the icon just sticks out so much lol.

I have a different tablet, but wanted to say I totally agree! You can disable it with the hide/show action bar widget, however it comes back with a 90° rotation (not 180). I've written anderweb, so hopefully this gets changed.

Request touchwiz ux for the HTC one

I just saw this for the s3 and thought it would be pretty cool if we could get our hands on touchwiz for the one if anyone is capable of this it would be awesome.

why not just buy an S4 instead of a One

Ok, here it goes again, without the use of the F word.
Why would you want touchwiz on our phones?
Samsung literally tried their best to copy Apple, while failing miserably. Instead of clean and sophisticated (for 2007 standards, people) Touchwiz looked like it was designed by children for use by children. 5th grade classrooms want their ugly pastel colors back!
And now Apple has changed their design, to only leave Samsung and their steaming pile of Touchwized crap to wallow in their own poor, copied design.
I BET Samsung will change the next iteration of touchwiz.
It's unfortunate when others can't recognize poor design when it's being sold to them for 200-600 dollars.
I mean, I have no problem with variety and choices but I'm confident nobody is going to want to port TW to the One.
It's just so.....childish looking.
I do not hate Samsung at all, I actually used the S3 for quite a while and I liked it; however from my experience, TouchWiz is extremely slow and laggy.. I mean even the S4 with all its hardware capabilities still has A LOT of lagging issues because of TouchWiz. I'd rather an AOKP ROM with Samsung that one with TouchWiz, especially since all the Motion features and Samsung applications are just useless, practically speaking.

eurghhhhh! touchwiz is just ugly. I used to have the s3, couldn't stand touchwiz and so ran aokp on it. I really like the look of stock android but i have to say that i think sense 5 is nicer. Yes nicer than stock android. I think that sense 5 is the first custom skin that has ever looked nicer and ran just as well as stock. Why you would ever want to change that for touchwiz i will never know.

My hate to touchwiz was one of the main reason to quit Samsung and return to HTC.
Variety is good off course. But it will be waste of time for a developer because there will be a little to no interest on it.
Hello, noob here, please don't crucify me. I used to have a GS3 and while my HTC one M7 is a much more solid, faster and sexier phone there are some features that I REALLLYYY miss. First is the pull down menu from the home screen with all the GPS, bluetooth, wifi controls etc. Second, swiping left to call and right to text from contacts was great... really nice feature. Third, editing contact info or adding a new contact, or even going into the phone icon and trying to find a phone number is ponderous on this OS. Can someone recommend another OS or solution? I wasn't sure where else to post this or how to search for all these criteria, so I thought this thread was the best bet. Thanks for your time!

Custom Sense ROMs such as TrickDroid have the pull down menu with the horizontal row of scrollable buttons for WiFi, bluetooth, etc (it's called EQS - extended quick settings). Also, all 4.2.2 based ROMS (custom as well as stock) have the native EQS as well (you swipe down from the status bar with 2 fingers). I'm pretty sure there are 3rd party SMS/texting apps that will let you do the swipe thing. There are definitely 3rd party phone/dialer apps that handle contacts better, I suggest trying exDialer. It installs 2 icons, one called Dialer and one called Contacts. If you don't like how the program looks, there are plenty of themes for it. Always remember the good thing about Android is you're not forced to stick with default apps for almost everything. You can potentially replace all the default apps if you so choose: mail, calendar, dialer, contacts, camera, gallery, messaging, web browser, clock, calculator, etc.
Edit: there are also apps in the Play Store like "Notification Toggles" that give you EQS capabilities.

[Q] Can the LG G3 have stock/vanilla Android installed on it?

I don't like phones that have anything on top of android, like Touchwiz for Samsung phones or HTC Sense on HTC phones. I noticed the LG G3 also has something on top of Android, so can that be removed and/or have regular Android installed on it?
U need a nexus
When we get aosp for it ya. As of right now, no.
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Free mobile app
The G3 UI is barely different than the Nexus UI.
There may be a possibility AOSP will be ported in because the bootloader is unlocked.
Remember though, aosp doesn't have anything built in to utilize the IR blaster or knock on/off and the like. So, unless you can find 3rd party apps that take care of that, you'll lose out on built in features of the G3.

Installing Google Now Launcher is the easiest way to run stockish setup. I'm sure there are tons of vanilla themes for all the popular launchers as well if aesthetics are what you're going for

Have you noticed that kernel support for knock-on always drained battery on other devices? The same will apply to the G3. Use of the low-power cores that the G3 uses for knockon is closed source and the source is only released to OEMs. Technically, all snap 800+ devices have the low power cores, but it's up to the OEM to enable them.
Kernel hacks to enable knockon keep the real cores awake while the phone is off, which is what causes the battery drain.
Not to mention, any third-party IR tool will never be nearly as good as the stock LG one.

Here are the differences between a stock ROM vs skinned:
Launcher - most people run alternative launchers anyway so this is a moot point. And the Google Now Launcher is overrated anyway.
Native Dialer/Contacts app - not a huge deal.
Settings menu - besides the color, the only thing really different about LG settings is that it defaults to tabbed view which works a lot better at getting you to the settings you want quickly without having to scroll through a long list. If you like having to scroll through every single setting you don't need at the moment, however, you can switch to list view.
Keyboard - personal preference. I've been using SwiftKey since Gingerbread and it's my opinion that it's leagues better than the Google keyboard. I also think the LG keyboard is a step above Google's.
Native email and SMS apps - I've only ever used Gmail so I can't comment on LG's email vs Google's. We for the a messaging app, I'm pretty sure that Hangouts finally replaced it as the default (which I've been using since my Nexus 4).
Lock screen - I prefer LG's with or without knock code. Native shortcuts on the lock screen beats Google's plain lockscreen with only a camera shortcut.
Native camera/gallery - Google camera is available in the Play Store and I'm pretty sure Google got rid of the gallery app in favor of Google+ Photos. I don't see anything that makes the Google Camera better unless you take a lot of photo spheres.
Quick settings - first of all, stock Google quick settings are nearly useless since they're shortcuts, not toggles, and you can't change them. Quick settings is one of the biggest reasons to have a custom ROM on a Nexus phone. I like the style of LG quick settings because it's similar to CM's.
Did I miss anything?
Yeah, so I like I said, LG isn't that far from stock. It adds a ton of useful features over the bare bones that is stock while not differing too much in appearance. Besides, most of your time spent on your phone is in various apps that are all identical regardless of which device you're on.
The fact that you could write such a long post on the subject of them being so alike sorta disproves the idea that there's little to no difference between them. Of course Android features remain unchanged across different builds. Technically you could say any OEM skin over Android is "just like" stock based on this argument. It is in the sense that that they all add to the aesthetic of Android, but in essence there's basically stock android, vanilla, GPE, what have you and, well.....everything else.

Support your point you did not. Do a write up on your favorite apps and features you did. I'm glad you like your LG software, not the issue at hand though. The OP was asking about vanilla android and you essentially told them "why there's no difference". They are in search for something specific not to be swayed into liking what they currently have.

I didn't do a write up of my favorite feature. I compared what little differences there are stock vs LG, backing up my claim that "LG isn't that far off from stock." I never claimed there was no difference — I said there is very little. And, what little differences there are, are minor since more time is spent in apps and system apps that define stock vs non are often replaced. I could switch to my Nexus 5 or 7 right now, continue this discussion or go back to what I was doing and the experience would be nearly identical (the not identical part being my screen's appearance when I press my recent apps button after I hit reply here).
So I'll continue to say, the LG UI isn't all that different from stock. Unless all you do is make calls and change settings. In which case, it's completely different.

No, no it does not. Kernel enabled wakeup only has a noticeable effect on battery on the Nexus 5 for the reasons you state, because the cores do not sleep. On every other phone the cores can sleep and battery drain is negligible. Smart IR is 100x better than Quick Remote, Quick Remote sucks to be honest.

Hey that's weird, the messaging app looks nothing like the AOSP app. You know what else looks different? Gallery, Browser, everything about the settings, the status bar does NOT conform to having a quick settings panel separate from notifications, the dialer has tabs but looks completely different, the keyboard is different, the stock email app is different, hell the lock screen is different. Even the recent panel is nothing like stock, or the initial button layout. These are all things that OEMs change and it is 100% false to call Optmius UI close to stock android with so much of the system UI changed. Like someone said, every OEM skin is close to stock android according to your logic.

If I put my Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and G3 side by side, and press home, they would all look exactly the same. If I start using all three exactly how I normally use them, they'll still look exactly the same. Because I use the same apps on all of them. Through regular use, the only differences are the lock screen when I turn my screen on, the quick settings when I pull down the notification tray, and how recent apps are presented when pressing the recent app button. In normal use, there are hardly any differences. I use my phone. I use apps.
And did you even bother to read anything of what I posted? I mentioned the messaging app. I also mentioned how Google is moving away from it in their Nexus devices (everyone's obsession) and having Hangouts as the default. I couldn't even begin to tell you what the stock SMS app looks like on the G3 since I only use Hangouts.
I also mentioned the Gallery app and how that's another thing Google is moving away from in their Nexus devices in favor of Photos integration in Google+.
Browser, admittedly, I did neglect to mention. I only use Chrome so it didn't occur to me. I did ask if I missed anything, though, so don't get your panties in a bunch.
I also compared and contrasted the Settings (seriously, go back up and actually READ my post), as well as Quick Settings, Dialer, email app, keyboard, lock screen, and the recent panel. Look, if you're going to sit here and try to have an argument with me, at least look at what I posted. You're the kind of person who reads a news headline and instantly jumps to conclusions.
Let me repeat my original statement: the LG UI isn't that different from stock Android.
I know reading comprehension isn't your strong point, but that simple lone acknowledges that there are differences between the two. It's not claiming they are equal. It's simply stating that they are not vastly different. Yes, they are different. I'm very aware of that, coming from three Nexus devices. I'm saying they are not that different and that the differences are even less when you're using your phone.

It's nice how you immediately jump to assumptions and insults, shows how big of a person you are. No I did not bother to read your full post because your argument is fundamentally flawed. You just admitted in your post that you use the same apps on both phones and don't even know what the G3 messaging app looks like. Take a look at Optimus UI and its versions of the AOSP counterparts and tell me they are not that different. It is obvious even looking at the default home launchers they are vastly different. It's also obvious if you are using the same replacement apps on both they will look the same, that's not the point. If you use the same replacement apps on an HTC with Sense or a Samsung with Touchwiz of course you will have the same experience.

I'm jumping to assumptions because your replies only demonstrate that you saw that you had a disagreement with me and didn't bother read past that. Which you confirm. We're done. If you can't bother to even read what I have to say before, then I can't be bothered to continue to have this one sided discussion. Go about your day.

Excellent copout.

I don't like phones that have anything on top of android, like Touchwiz for Samsung phones or HTC Sense on HTC phones. I noticed the LG G3 also has something on top of Android, so can that be removed and/or have regular Android installed on it?

Eventually we'll have aosp, and alot of LG features wont work, some people will get working but most will not.
And to be honest the UI isnt ugly in anyway its nice and i can live with it along with all the features it presents, should try to like it since we wont have AOSP for whileeeeeeeeeeeeeee
