HAha u remember mulder and scully series haha they thought they been soo cool when they started phoning and pulled antenna up
Well, im not fan of x-files, but thats an old show, and old phones were requiring to pull antenna out
DMB is some kind of old wireless TV/FM technology. It doesnt require the phone signal at all.
By the way it was usually possible to connect an external gsm antenna on HTC smartphones for better signal. Not sure about last years though
What about DVB? (Freeview)
Sent from my LG-F180L using xda app-developers app
DVB is digital video standards, over cable, wireless, sats etc.
DMB is next gen FM radio tech, with ability to broadcast digital video.
Sounds pretty same, but the meaning is really different.
DVB is just MPEG streaming over air the diff is format only an freqency..
That DMB is korean stuff only then.. so tuner in phone is useless if u not in korea..

Mine increased its speed and signal 1.5~2 times than without the foil.
By doing that your connecting the wifi, gps and radio antennas together with the tin foil. Bound to cause some problems in the long run.
Runs good. Guess you are wrong.
Looks like the wifi and 3g antennas are bridged but the gps has been gone around (the one at the top).

hmm.. wanting to try this but also not. even if not now, it does seem very possible that connecting the wifi and the 3G antenna should/will cause a problem.
Normally both radios wouldn't be running at the same time. But what would happen when running wifi tether?
Stole my thread bro. But that's an interesting way you did it.

Another Chinese mod... Not the smartest move in the long run especially with health and safety standards. The phones are designed to take in only so much information and data at a time. Doing this is like overclocking your processor and in time comes with a price. Use at own discretion.

The antenna next to the camera is GPS. GPS uses a loop. If you'll notice, the gold strip covers both contacts to form a complete loop.
The mobile antenna is on the bottom with the long strip.
Bridging all of the antennas is bound to cause some problems. If you have both radios on, but leave wifi disconnected, it will stay mostly off as it periodically polls for access points.
The mobile radio works similarly. While not on a call and not using data, it isn't maintaining a constant connection. It periodically polls for updates and connectivity.
In the end, not all of the radios will be firing at once.
With minor testing you might not notice any problems. Keep in mind the problem that plagued the iPhone was exposed antennas for different radios being bridged causing dropped calls.
I'd be interested in seeing some real world testing and not quick benchmarks. Try some google maps navigation and see how reliable it is. Make a phone call while connected to wifi. Try some wifi tethering. Wifi tether while browsing google maps on your device to activate all 3 of the radios affected. I'm genuinely curious what the results would be.
Yeah this isnt a good idea. For whatever reason it might run fine now, but there is something called SWR (standing wave ratio) which is reflected power back to the transmitter. If you have a high SWR due to unmatched load (antenna) then you will eventually degrade the RF front end of the transmitting radios in addition to inefficient radiation of the signal.
As it was mentioned before, great received signal and data download, but poor upload...this to me is a direct indication that the transmit side is mis-matched and most of the power is being reflected back to the transmitter. The great received signal is really irrelevant because cell base stations transmit high power...around 20 watts while our handsets are on the order of 0.3 watts or less so overall receive performance is going to be good regardless of a properly matched antenna.
Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend this.
Note this was removed in lh1 and newer firmwares. Even worse is that I had mine set to 2.4ghz only and that Is what was still set after flashing to lh1 which means without thus app I could never have gotten 5ghz to work.

Edit: I don't know if I switch it over to 5 ghz it doesn't connect to anything at all. The wifi on this phone totally blows that's about my only gripe I just use the mobile network cause I know out won't drop!
Question: is there any possible way to actually just increase the power of the wifi? Or does that need some kind of patch or something? It would be nice to use wifi when not sitting directly in front of the router

Just curious, who's planning on getting the Nexus 4? Also, what are your thoughts on Google not adding expandable SD card slots to their Nexus devices? (I guess to push Google Drive) And also, no LTE chip.
For around $350?
I for one, (because I'm an Android fanatic), do plan on ordering one. (Despite some of the cons listed above) Because of it's specs. Just wanna get a feel for everybody else's thoughts.

LG's lack of features is a breath of fresh air for me...In the way that, I'm not worried about upgrading from my GSIII for awhile. If they introduced a galaxy nexus 2, I would be upset!
LOL the nexus 4 is a poorly planned joke. All they had to do was listen to the community on this one. Obviously Samsung did that when designing the S3. Nonremovable batteries are a must. NO LTE WTF this isn't 2010, it's 2012! No sd card slot either?! .........

Yeah that thing bombed! LOL
WeWell if you think about it, for Google to be able to hit that magic $399 pricetag, some things need to get axed. The Galaxy Nexus was $399, and had a slow OMAP processor and lousy camera and cheapy build quality. Google and LG probably thought about it and moved their priorities around a bit. All those three things are being addressed. You get the latest S4 Pro quad-core, decent 8MP camera, and "much better than Samsung" build quality. The sealed battery and no MicroSD is Google's own deliriums, so you can't blame LG for that. That really only leaves the LTE chip that can be axed to save money, since they are still expensive. This is primarily an unlocked world phone that accepts SIM cards. Most of the world doesn't have LTE yet. The ones that do have spotty coverage. And honestly you will notice the faster quad-core browser rendering more than the increased data speed. A phone can only render so fast. I've had 20Mbps cable and 3Mbps dsl and for daily surfing purposes, they aren't that different, since websites are designed for that lower tier. On a phone, the faster browser would make the bigger difference. Not to mention the battery life saved. I think it's a smart move. Right now, I don't even have a data plan, so I Wifi hop everywhere and the $$$ saved from having to buy a $600+ LTE phone with the latest processor/screen combo is just a no-brainer. It caters to my needs especially.

If I understand you correctly, you want your S2 to transmit audio to your car's FM radio? Yeah, right... First, you need to somehow install an actual FM transmitter into your phone, as no app will magically help you unless the phone is physically capable of transmitting an FM signal (which it's not). That would be quite a DIY project -- let us know how it goes!
Of course, another option is just to buy an FM transmitter -- there are tons of them on the market, for any taste and budget...
I think buying trasmter wasn't bad idea

I feel like that's more than likely the case. Which is a real shame. Maybe it's possible to use the headphones as an antenna who knows.
Oh man that would be such a cool option. I use my phone all the time just to listen to the local morning show. If it would work with the Nexus, that would be one more reason to buy this for me.
I am still on the fence about buying one, at least for a couple of months, I want to wait unit some good reviews come out.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I'm pretty sure there is no way that Google allowed the FM antenna pins to be connected anywhere but shorted to ground. Like any Nexus device, if it was FM capable, I'd be thrilled and would rush to get one ASAP.
For this chip, the kernel config needs to include radio-iris into the kernel itself (not a module). AND radio-iris-transport.ko needs to be a module, it can't be in the kernel like radio-iris. Strange, but so. You can insmod the ko, but the official method is to run this as root:
setprop hw.fm.mode normal ; setprop hw.fm.version 0 ; setprop ctl.start fm_dl
If the ko isn't loaded the phone will reboot due to stupidity in the kernel driver.
With the driver loaded properly, Spirit should detect the FM chip OK. Most likely, RSSI signal strength at top left will be negative or zero.
On the IMO very tiny chance RSSI is 10 or higher with a wired headset plugged in, and the frequency set to a good channel, then we can worry about making audio work.
The only Nexus device EVER released with FM hardware capability was the old Nexus One, based on the HTC Desire. And even that required a custom kernel at minimum to get audio.
Any updates to this?
