Stock rom with stock kernel vs perseus/redpill - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any one tried this combination : Stock rom and perseus/redpill kernel ?

Yes.. im using stock rom and perseus kernel.
Very stable and working at high performance.
As for now, no lag or any other issue. All working fine..
Battery life longer.
Currently for daily use i overclocked 1.8ghz.. very smooth...

Which kernel would be suggested for a giod balance between battery and performance have been reading about the kernels but finding out from people who are using them . Please enlighten

For me its Perseus or Note2core EX.....they are very good imo.....Perseus for battery and Note2core gives Performance...you cant go wrong with either one.

Try them all, it's so quick to flash, and no kernels massively outperform others. See for yourself!
My personal favorite is neak, and with that, we have all note 2 kernels listed here.

I have to tweak Perseus kernel. Otherwise it runs pretty bad.

Thanxx mate will try them out but I really want a kernel with good balance of both and thats why I am asking I can flssh them all and check but that would take too long to see which one is right as you have to give the kernel some time to set in or it will make no sense flashing all. Get it ?? Sorry for my bad english and thanxx

Hey guys, I'm a week old Android convert after coming from ios for 4 years.
I just rooted my Note 2 and was wondering if anyone could help me how to install/flash the Perseus kernel on my phone?
I looked at the official thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852 and got lost in all 300+ pages.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Hi, first of all, why didn't you post that here? I am searching the whole morning to find a quick guide. I'm new to Samsung. I had running JellyBam already, but after some time I had to revert back to stock. Now regarding to the damn Sudden Death Bug (mine is affected) I have to install a custom kernel and keep the stock rom. I know there are two ways of flashing custom kernels to (stock)roms:
1. Custom Recovery
2. Odin
Regarding to Odin method: Is it true that the stock recovery will try to remove/flash away all custom stuff?
And if I use CWM method, can I reset the flash counter via Triangle Away while keeping e.g. the Perseus Kernel?

Hi,
if a have some SDS with rooted phone and new kernel, this will disable the warranty, even if i stay with a stock ROM right ?

Only temporary. If you have to give it to repair you can still use your warranty. Just make sure you reset the flash counter the right way after flashing everything to stock.
But with e.g. Perseus kernel you should be safe from sds bug.

-If SDS is the only concern, latest firmware (4.1.2 of 2013 released) are believed to be safe. AFAIK custom kernel also using samsung patch kernel code. so no extra safety by using custom kernel. one more thing just kernel only won't make device safe from SDS you needs recovery too.(recovery also using kernel code)
so you can still remain safe from SDS by flashing latest ROM
OR
Flash latest stock recovery and kernel to old stock ROM
You can find here in post#6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
Again answer to your question,
1. stock recovery won't auto replace custom stuff (kernel/recovery), certain recovery (e.g. philz ) sometimes ask to replace stock recovery when you reboot from recovery. but this is not in case of kernel.
2.No, presence of custom recovery/kernel itself raise counter. even you reset with triangle away.
- once you have custom kernel/recovery, you can't keep your counter '0' even with triangle away. so as far as you are having custom recovery/kernel (whatever method you use to flash them) you are running out of warranty, again to make clear you needs to replace custom kernel/recovery to stock to reset counter and you needs working device to reset counter. (Triangle away need device working)

Can Perseus kernel be flashed thru TRWP the same way as a custom ROM? Do I need to clear cache and Dalvik before I flash? Is the Perseus kernel carrier dependent? Is the latest version of Perseus compatible with CleanROM 3.0? I understand this is a question for a different thread or forum but I can't post on an development specific topics yet.

Yes. Don't have to but won't hurt, I always wipe dalvik and cache when I flash anything.. No. Yes.
Flashed with no issues. Thanks!

I apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere, but are kernels installed by each custom rom? For instance if I had installed the latest Perseus kernel with CleanRomX, and then decided to install back to the stock rom, would that overwrite the Perseus kernel?
I don't have the answer but just go to "About" in your phone settings and check to see what kernel version you are running after you flash

As long as that stock rom has the boot.img. If not, then the stock kernel can also be found in the Perseus op. Just check in your about phone to see what kernel you have

1. Copy Perseus-alpha32.1-n7100-CWM.zip to internal storage using abd.
2. Power down and booted into Recovery. Vol+,Home,Power.
3. Did a Backup of everything except the cache to external SD. (took ~7 mins)
4. Wiped cache and Davalik-cache. (<1 min.)
5. Installed the Perseus-alpha32.1-n7100-CWM.zip (<10 sec)

Could be a few issues.
You could be on an old version of JellyBam that does not use the 3.4 kernel. You also could have downloaded the wrong kernel from the page linked. If you could give us your ROM version that would help.
Its 7.5.0
But do u have to flash a kernel with odin

Kernels are flashed in recovery, not Odin. The problem may be the recent display changes in KT's kernel. You may want to check his thread for an earlier build (pre 4/19) before the display commits were added.

correct. flash his 4/11 release.
and if you ever find yourself in a bootloop from flashing the wrong kernel, just flash the correct kernel in recovery. wipe cache/dalvik, fix permissions and reboot. good to go without having to restore or reset anything.
also, i'd stick with ROMs in this forum that are supported by the dev.

If you don't use custom rom. No matter just put the latest firmware.
If you enjoy custom you must put a custom kernel and another recovery like pgilz or twrp

SDS Solution, once and for all [help me]

Hey guys,
Lately I realized that I have Insane Chip.
No matter what Rom or Kernel I flash into the hardware I just can't seem to get rid of the SDS.
I've tried Perseus Kernel [Which later I found that it's for stock roms only].
I've tried Devil Kernel, N.E.A.K Kernel without any success.
Currently I'm using ParanoidAndroid 3.99 and it's great, but the SDSs killing me.
What's the solution? btw I rather have something fast because I get to the house only on weekends and the Note 2 is all I have while I'm outside the house.

You cant get rid of the insane chip its hardware , the only way to get the sane chip is to swich the motherboard, you should be safe on latest stock roms but the emmc brickbug app will alway show insane chip even if you have a safe rom and kernel. So using latest stock 4.1.2 roms whit stock kernels should be safe but I dont know if its 100% because samsung doesn't publish change logs whit there updates.

Each kernel is different so I don't know. Personally I just used stock on demand and runs great for me. A balance between performance and battery life.. I don't like to sacrifice performance
