Hey guys,
Don't know if you noticed but the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global are having some hands-free headphone problems. It seems that they don't play nice with certain headsets that plug into the 3.5 mm jack.
Most, if not all, of these headset were designed for the Iphone/Itouch. For example, I have the Klipsch Image s4i's, which work stunningly with my Itouch; however, the mic doesn't work with my Droid 2 Global and the volume up/down and center button don't act as they normally should.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I've tested many different headsets to make sure it wasn't my Klipsch headphones' fault. After searching other forums as well, it seems that other people are having this problem, but posters normally reply with "well, my 'such and such' headphones and mic work fine, it must be your phone" and they just shrug off the question.
I'm pretty sure this is a legitimate problem with the phone. Anybody have any idea how to fix this problem? I feel that there has to be someway to program the input from the mic and buttons to work with the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global hardware.
I don't use wired headsets so I have no idea.
I don't think the iphone/ipod earphone's control is compatible with Droid. I've tried Apple MA850 and an phone-compatible in-ear headset from Denon, none of their control works
I'm still looking for better in-ear headset that works with Droid, any clue will be appreciated!
I looking to buy a quality headsets with microphone that will be compatible with my Galaxy S2.
I am thinking to buy the Zagg smurtbuds.
Do you know if they will work with the Galaxy S2? will the sound be good? the microphone will work? the controller will work with the Galaxy S2 player?
If this headsets are not compatible with the Galaxy S2, do you know about other alternatives?
Thanks!

Could you please elaborate. I'm pretty new to this so I apologize.
How would this work? Through bluetooth? RF signal?
Haven't bought any of the brands above so am not sure.
Also what kind of adapter with remote do I need to buy? (Name?)
Any links if possible would be great for both.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
-AndroidFreud.
Get a SonyEricsson MW600 bluetooth adaptor and plug any headphone you want in. It has Play, Pause, Back, Forward, Volume buttons and microphone. Problem solved.
Thanks for the quick response - will check them out. Which earphone would you say is the best on audio quality for listening to music (as well as using it for handsfree)?

The problem with Bluetooth remote's is that the audio stream get's compressed, so that kinda defeats the purpose of getting high end ear/headphones. As technology stands today, wired is the only way to go for achieving the best sound quality.
I suppose the real question is this:
For ear/headphone microphone sets that we know work with the SGS2 (such as the one that came in the box) which have four connectors, I suppose the next thing to try is to see whether or not ear/headphones designed for iPhones will work correctly. If iPhone designed headphones work properly (including all controls etc.) then this makes finding a decent pair of working earphones a HELL of a lot easier.
I think that the headsets that comes with the device are quality, dont you think so ?
yesterday i bought the "Bose MIE2" and they are just great.
link for the international site
there are not many controls. just one button that lets you pick up/hang up calls and play/pause/skip music. thats more than enough for me.
the sound is so great but the best thing is the design of the speakers itself.
there is something called "Stay here" attached to them, which makes it almost impossible for them to drop out of your ear.
this works so well that i am even considering to use them for sports too...
unfortunately they cost about 130€ which is a lot. but for me the quality makes it worth it!
So far i'm enjoying the phonak pfe122 on my S2. Sound level seems to have improved possibly due to better isolation and clarity is second to none
I haven't had the opportunity to try out as many earbuds as this guy but his opinion in iem/earbuds is very similar to mine

I've bought A-Jays Four and for the price range they just sound amazing. As for inline remote, only middle button works, but thats enough in my case.

I recommend atomic floyd, a great product and exemplary customer service.

good quality but you have to keep pressing button to skip song, you can also answer calls but you can hear the phone ringing even with the phones in which defeats the purpose for me,back to the drawing board lol
Nimroth..
is the Bose headset mie2i compatible with the SGS2? are all the features working well and mic also work so the other party on the phone can hear you well?
hope to hear from u soon mate..

The MIE2I's are excellent imho, but like most others the volume buttons don't work with the SGS2.
Headset button controller app is workable and for me worth the hassle to use these headphones.
Mic works well. No one has complained about the quality when I call them.
Totally agree with nimroth. Very few earphones will stay in my weird ears, but these are perfect.

i meant a wired adapter not a bluetooth one, bluetooth is not reccomended for high end headphones especially because flac and uncompressed formats are of a way to high bitrate to stream correctly
if i meant bluetooth i would've said so , i haven't tested any with my sgs as i dont have access to any atm but what i would do is find the cheapest possible headphones with remotes that work maybe even old htc ones or something laying around, then cut off the headphones above the mic/remote section and attach a 3.5mm jack so i can use my Q-jays
least that is my plan.
the loss of quality from the extension will be negligible and either way the sound out of any phone cannot compete with high end audio device anyway, so if you really care about audio quality start carrying a Cowon player.

just for you in case you didnt know: there are two different models:
- the "mie2" only have the mike and ONE button for pause/play/skip/accept or end call (those are the ones i have)
- the "mie2i" are the ones for the iphone and have more buttons (like volume and stuff)
just like MarkyH said the mike-quality is really good (maybe because it is quite next to your mouth), but the volume controls wont work with the sgs2 and most other phones because of a different framework.
i decided to buy the mie2 because i dont mind the missing volume controls or the "one track back" button...
Thank you Nimroth and Also thanks to MarkyH..
Good to know that the headset mie2i works well i.e compatible with SGS2 except for the volume controller.
I've already one and I going to get SGS2 soon.
does the fm radio still work with the mie2i?
I found these:

quite good
I have a set of Ultimate Ears 500vi, with a mic and remote.
Part of the remote works, but no such luck with the mic.
Any ideas on some adapter I might be able to buy to make the mic work?
More importantly, does anyone know WHY the mic on iphone headsets doesn't work with Android devices?
If I can figure out why it doesn't work, I can make a custom PCB to adapt it...

There's something about how the headset is made that dictates whether it will be able to function on some android phones, the OEM headsets have controls, but others don't always work. Try the OEM headset on iphone, if it doesn't work that means the mic/control implementation is different and can't be recognized by certain boards. I was gonna buy some better headphones like beats or maybe sennheisers, but fear the controls won't work.
I am pretty sure the MIC and GRND leads are reversed in the iPhone headsets. Also, Apple uses a chip in the remote to signal the phone; HTC uses resistors of a known value in series across the MIC and GRND leads.
You can disassemble the stock HTC headset and replace the earbuds with a standard 3.5mm jack for alternative headphones.
Everybody looking for good headsets, I strongly advise to try the Logitech Ultimate Ears Superfi 5vi. They're fully compatible with Android and are studio quality. Downloading PowerAmp is a plus.

i'd take a guess and say its just the brand? /: i had sony in ear headphones with a mic that was supposed to be for the iphone that worked on my mytouch 4g, but the sound quality was pretty choppy, dont know whether it was the product itself or if it was a compatibility issue.
I posted a thread about my Jlab headphones. I lost them, so I have tried various others. Schosches didn't work. Skullcandy's seem to be doing well, but aren't as clear and crisp as my Jlabs. I plan on ordering another pair.
Samsung 3.5 mm Premium Stereo Headset Bulk Packaging - Black
These are awesome. I have bought multiple pairs for about $5 on amazon.com. They have and in line mic with controls, soft clear ear buds with extras in different sizes and they hold up well even with being thrown loose into my purse regularly.
For anyone who's curious, my Dr Dre Beats Solo HD work great with PowerAMP as a music player. Unfortunately, the mic doesn't work...so that's a bummer...
I'm using the Panache which is essentially the same phone. Quote disappointed because the mic was working great with the Nexus One. Also works on my cousins GS2...and of course works on iPhones.
i got a pair of monster ibeats and i was wondering if there was any 3 button headset apps or music apps that can make all 3 buttons work. the center button works but the volume buttons do not. i have already tried jays, headset button controller and headset control and non of them let me use the other buttons. from what i can find out it has something to do with the framework of android. the ibeats are made for an apple based but is there anyway around this???? please any more info would be nice since i just got these headphones and there AWESOME. i dont really need the buttons to work but would be nice since they were pricey...
Sell them and get the klipsch s4a that are made for android just as good if not better sound quality.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
actually, no don't sell them for a klipsch s4a set, because you will run into the same (if not worse) problems. you aren't going to get any better than what you have right now. all idevice headsets function fine as one button headsets. doing my own searching has told me that a special circuit board in the controls is the only way to get any headset working like an idevice set. and even then it would be no guarantee. samsung has their headphone jack wired a little differently so even any headset made for android devices would have trouble here.
it isn't just the klipsch s4a i'm talking about here. it's all the android headsets with all samsungs running android. maybe samsung will release a 3 button headset or someone would produce an adapter that will fix that problem. either way i wouldn't go around selling anything just yet.

Does anyone know of a headphone adapter with control buttons on it that works with the galaxy note?
I want to be able to skip tracks and change volume while jogging.
I am looking for an adapter that will work with any headphones rather than headphones with built-in controls.
I have seen plenty advertised as working with iphones, but nothing specifically for android.

After a bit more research i have gone for the jabra bt3030. It seems bluetooth is the better option as the controls are standardised.

In general, the headphone with mic and controllers branded "for iphone" work also for android. Of course, it is a bit risky.

you can try the Sony Ericsson MW 600 bluetooth, it does what you are asking for and can work with any headphones.
Unfortunately reliability is a little suspect, after a few months of use mine quite simply... died
SE MW600 works great. Been using it since my Galaxy S days 2 years ago.

Really sucks that samsung don't use the iPhone standard for headsets as almost none are available where the volume works.

QFT. Having previously wired custom iphone headsets (and seen other posts regarding it), they will not work on android.
Buy a single-button iphone headset and Headphone Control (or jays headphone app) from the market.
Seriously though, the DAC on the GNote is bad enough that the Bluetooth audio was really not much worse than the headphone out. And I'm an audiophile
Finally please be aware that even though headsets will be marketed as compatible with both only the center button will work. You need Android specific volume controls
Maybe this is not answer you looking for,
But i'm using Poweramp apps and i can use gnote included headset's buttons to control volume, skip track or stop player.
any of the bluetooth solutions work well. I have the sony MW600 and also a pair of sennheiser BT headphones and both have headphone based volume, as well as buttons for pause, fwd, rewind.
just keep the device on max vol and adjust your headphone volume with the buttons.
there is also the new apt-x samsung dongle (hs3000? 300?) but unfortunately the note doesnt support apt-x (yet?)
Jabra BT3030
I use the above mentioned Jabra and it works like a charm...
Thanks everyone for your advice. The jabra bt3030 arrived today (25 euros delivered on ebay in Spain). Just went out for my first jog with it and it worked perfectly. The great thing about this solution is I can use the headphones of my choice.
