Help me please - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello
I bought an samsung galaxy s3 sgh-t999 from Tmobile on America and my dad sent me phone.Im in romania and I have some problems:
1:Why I have dual core 1.5 Ghz and no quad core 1.4Ghz
2.Why great games(gta vice city, spider man) are lagging? Yes I use task killer and mu atutu score is 8000
3.In my menu i have sometimes lag
Please tell me what to do to fix my phone and make it work great and big games without lag?
Please help

Wrong forum this is SGH-T959V

Moved to the Tmobile T999 forums.
Good luck.

OK to answer your first question all US/America variants are dual core 1.5 because of the lack of radio support on the exynos 4 quad core for LTE that's present here. One thing we do have better is the ram as the international version only has 1 and we have 2gb, I personally like the tradeoff. Furthermore a simple YouTube comparison you can see in terms of speed they don't perform much different.
To your second question this for the most part is entirely depending on the actual company like rock star for vice city, many users are reporting lag even on high end phones. They might be do an update in the future but who knows personally I see these ports as another way to make money without putting too much resource on it. They release the first gta3 and I believe they were only 2 updates till now and that was released like a year and a half ago. Maybe you can try overclocking but this phone should be able to run any game.
Menu lag? never really seeing users reporting that often seems to me you are runnibg stock since you were in the wrong forum to start with but maybe other users can chime in on that.
Your welcome

1. Buy an international version and you'll have quad core.
2. Don't use task killer
3. Debloat or flash wicked rom

I closed your other thread and left a message to bring the discussion over here. Only one thread at a time please and thanks.
Also, take care to tread lightly when talking about what I bolded in your quote above. Warez (cracked/paid apps for free) are not allowed on XDA.
This is your 1 warning about that. Heed it!

[Q] How is Gaming on at&t galaxy s3

i'm thinking of getting the galaxy s3 (us version) because, i bricked my old phone so i need a new one. my old phone would run games like gta3, max payne, nova3 with lag. I was thinking that because the phone is currently the best phone you can own, it should be able to play games quite easily,BUT i have heard some people say that they got lag on some games, or gameloft games said that the device isn't compatible with the game, so i was wondering what is your personal experience, because gaming so actually pretty important to me :fingers-crossed:
P.S. The only reason i'm not getting the international version is because its out of my price range:crying:, i really don't care about LTE
I have been playing some very high end games with zero lag. The s3 is a great choice for gaming.

thanks i just wanted to be sure before i bought the phone, and i'm sure after i root it and overclock it, it will be a beast.
Also is the white galaxy s3 hard to keep clean? Because i have heard people say that white phones get dirty easily
I have a white one and it's just like anything else. I haven't noticed it being any dirtier than say a blue one.

what carrier do you have? and how is the web browsing speed? One main probable i had with my current phone was that unless the brightness setting was maxed out, i couldn't use it outdoors? How is multitasking because with 2gb ram it should work flawlessly? How is battery life? i got to highschool so for the first 8 hours of the day i don't use it, and the rest of the day i play some games and listen to music, i don't mind having to charge it every night.
Shadowgun, riptide, and desert winds all play great. I have the tmobile version but they're all the same performance wise. Having two GB's of memory is awesome too. I multitasks like a boss and you never have to worry about backing out of anything.

do you think gaming wise the international version does better or the same?
i have heard people reporting that gaming is much better with the international version because of the 4cores

I think as time goes by more games will become compatible, most games aren't even optimized for 4cores so that's where we have the advantage, and yet some how the i93000 make the games work even better than the SGH-I747
P.S What the difference between the SGH-I747 and the SGH-I747M?
Sent from my LG-E739 using XDA Premium App
Hardware wise, there is absolutely no difference between i747 and i747m. Its exactly the same as At&t model. The software is really the only difference and offered by the Canadian carriers.
The i9300 gpu is probably what makes the games run like butter. The Mali outperforms the adreno from what I've read. I'm not sure if quad core would do much other than decrease loading times. If I still had my i9300 I would have compared nova 3 on both. But chose to sell it to get the LTE version. Now I find out that I can't play multiplayer over LTE on nova 3 any workaround ? It looks for wifi only for multiplayer

Thanks your answer was really helpful!!! and I think that the you can't use LTE for multiplayer on ANY games , I think you can only play multiplayer using wifi, I think it has something to do with the fact it would be overload in the cell towers, plus since different company's use different wave lengths, u would only be able to connect to pleople who are the same network.

Games to truly use S3 power?

Just wondering if there are any games that take full advantage of the quad core chip and Mali GPU?

Games like Nova 3 are heavy gpu eaters but it isnt optimized for quad core cpu's for that well have to wait till such game comes out. As in my opinion cpu doesnt have much effect on gaming performance

Don't bet your head on this one.The S2 plays Tegra 3 games(All I've tried and worked) without sweating too much without even the need to be overclocked.I don't see the reason why they would be hard to play for the S3.Games like NOVA 3 do tax the system too much.I think Gameloft's games aren't as well coded as Dead Trigger for example though.
Anyway,if you want to use the full power of the S3,wait some months until Gameloft releases a game with the Unity Engine they teased the other day.I think that will be worth talking about.

free ram on galaxy note 2

hiya, a bit of a random question, but could someone please tell me how much free ram they have on their note 2 on average? (should be checkable in the task manager if the note 2 still has one) i know it has 2gb total ram, but im curious to see how much of that ram is already used and how much i will actually have to play around with.
i know some of you will argue that 'free ram is wasted ram' and 'it doesnt matter since android will auto kill off background apps to give your current app more ram', but to me, these arguments are meaningless/irrelevent. on my current galaxy note, the ram management doesnt suit my usage style. everytime i open the browser, switch out of it and load another app, then re open the browser, all tabs have to reload, which is a sign to me that all the memory used by the browser has been dumped. vice versa as well, as occasionally i will switch out of a game to send a message and then when i switch back to the game, i find out that the memory used by the game has been dumped as well and i have now lost my progress in said game.
TLDR version: basically, what i wanna know is if i were to purchase the note 2 as an upgrade for my note, can i expect to be able to multitask between an app or three without it dumping the memory used by the previous app.

The best ram management is having a program like rom toolbox or fast reboot and configuring android to start to kill apps when they have less than 250mb available.
It will kill when the phone hits the line of possible struggle, so it will be always fast and snappy, and you will have about 1gb of apps in memory to open it fast.

When I saw this thread. .I got curious and have been checking my ram.. surprisingly contrary to all the parts above except for the op.. I always see that my ram is used to the extent of 1.55 gigs all the time Is this something I should be concerned about? My phone actually froze a couple of times as well. It could be that since its so new I'm on it continuously and therefore so little ram is available... Please let me know your thoughts..

Certainly does! I really don't understand why some people chase free RAM as it is only of any use whilst it is being used.
Coming from a Note 1, with only 1GB of memory, I notice a massive difference in multitasking performance because the OS isn't having to kill tasks in order to launch new ones, meaning switching between them is so much faster.
Android does a very good job of managing available memory, so let it do its job.

Dave

This phone has been silky smooth and gobbled up everything I've thrown at it. I was shocked at how much faster it is than my Nexus 7, and certainly faster than my Skyrocket.
The only thing that drives me nuts about the processor is the wake lag every time I turn it on from deep sleep. I'll learn to live with it, but this phone would be almost perfect if that were fixed (not including software tweaks).

Yea well reducing the processor to that low of a clock speed is partly responsible for the crazy ass battery life of this phone. I'd rather have another millisecond of unlock time and gain several hours of battery life. Fine with me.

Look at the Engadget review of the Nexus 4. The note 2 (exynos) beat the snapdragon s4 pro in 4/6 benchmarks and they felt like the exy was better in normal use and battery efficiency. Just look up Nexus 4 review on engadget- Nexus 4,Optimus G, note 2 are all compared. Look at the benchmark table. Note 2 wins 4/6.

I've never seen any huge advantage of the Exynos processors over any others, mainly because they are just stock ARM designs. If Samsung wanted to impress me, they would pay for an architecture license. The A6 is pretty hard to beat, given the performance AND battery life, and I really like my S4 Pro, although it is a bit of a juice hog.
The exynos is a heavily modified arm design, and apples a6 is very very similar to it.

That's why you see iphones perform very well despite the specs looking like they are lacking. The iphone 5 after playing with it is just as fast as my Note 2 but it's only dual core and clocked much lower. RAM is also lower.
Pretty sure the reason the a6 is as smooth or smother with lower specs is due to software optimization and the fact it uses 3 core gpu ( which everyone seems to leave out when they make these statements). That is where apple has done good.

One area Apple has excelled in is GPU performance. I'm surprised Samsung doesn't push the limits in this area harder. I don't play games much myself but as you said it goes beyond just playing your favorite games on a phone.

I had my mind set on getting the note 2 ever since I heard about it, but after watching a video on YouTube that compared the note 2 and the DNA, I'm not so sure. The video ran every benchmark that antutu has to offer and the DNA beat the note 2 in almost every test by a little. Also, the DNA has a larger resolution.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Benchnarks are relative. You dont know if its been overclocked or if one has a bunch of apps or services running. You have to look at the specs and see if its better. I ran both of these benchmarks after reading this and my phone had better results several times and worse results several times.

I think you have a point. I noticed that the note 2 has a faster clock speed on it's CPU but thought that perhaps the make of the CPU alone could make a difference in performance (Intel CPUs vs AMD CPUs for example).
In regards to resolution, has anyone seen the difference between the note 2 and the HTC DNA? I don't think the video review does a good job of showing the picture quality of each phone.

I have played with both devices and while the DNA is a nice device it does feel sluggish at times especialy when hopping in between different open programs.
As for the display, its all about user preference. I prefer the Note for the vibrant colors. The DNA seemed a little crisper but it also bothered my eyes after staring at it for awhile.

Um, the GN2 has an s pen. Is there any comparison?

I believe there is a comparison between the two phones as they are both rather large phones and leaders in performance.
I personally don't consider the s pen the note 2's defining characteristic (although I can see why some would). The s pen aside, the note 2 is a beast of a phone. I think of the s pen as an added bonus, similar to my Samsung Epic 4g's slide out keyboard.

I think you're doing yourself a serious disservice if you make your decision based on benchmark scores from either one of these apps.

These would be the least of the things I would use to consider a new phone. I was just running these and was suprised at the score. I've been set on this phone for a while. And if I don't get it, ill probably consider another HTC. I love the sense.

I always find myself messing with the benchmark apps of Quadrant and Antutu, it does do a good comparison. And for those who say some times it is slower and sometimes higher.. When you run a car/motorcycle on the dyno or quarter mile don't you also get higher and lower results? It may not be the most concrete comparison system but it isn't garbage.(not saying anyone in HERE called it garbage but have heard it in other places). Anyways for a 7600 score on quadrant what were you running for clock speed min max, the gpu settings etc. I noticed you were on the Venum Ice reborn ROM. it is Odexed, aren't those supposed to be faster?
Also how do the fellas on top of the Antutu boards running the Gn2 run the test at resolutions of like 720x8 and other crazy res's like that?
I had a couple real low 7k quadrant runs but they got wiped flashing ROM's and not saving it. but here's what I do have.
