I just flashed the OTA 4.0.4 zip file from a rooted 4.0.2 with CWM. What I want to know is: is it a good idea to flash a custom kernel and rom at this point or should I wait for the 4.0.4 to make it into more dev's packages? I read that the Franco Kernels were the best or at least the most popular, but he doesn't have a 4.0.4 released yet.
Any advice would be helpful as this is for my wife's GNex. I'm still stuck on my POS DX until March (hopefully in time for a nice quad-core, waterproof, 2gb ram phone - hey a guy can dream can't he?)
Make a nandroid and experiment! Q&A also

wait for a kernel that works with the build, or you may run into issues
Just try them all out! Also, this is in the wrong section.

What happened to the 10 post minimum to post here?
Hmm - I've been on this board for a LONG time and post very little cause I spend a lot more time on irc when I have questions, but whats kinda funny to me is that after my question - not one single response for a suggestion or even a real response to my question (with the exception of NyPlaya513 saying to wait).
I'm not a noob and have been flashing for years, but what I just was curious to know was whether or not there were any kernels or roms for the 4.0.4 OTA yet and if anyone had any preferences. I already made NAND backups and even TB backups, but I just want to know if there was any development yet.
There are quite a few people on here with an unwarranted elitist air about them. I'm in the same boat as you, as I read more than I post; mainly because when you post your thread is usually cluttered with mostly useless responses.
Anyway, you will almost definitely run into problems if you flash a kernel that is not compatible with a rom build. I would advise you to flash a 4.0.3 rom (highly recommend AOKP) with Franco's kernel. If you must have 4.0.4, you're stuck with stock kernels for now.

for the record, I also use AOKP along with franco kernel #16 and get amazing battery life
I am on AOKP 4.0.3 with Franco's kernel and it is really good, smooth, works, nice stuff.
I've been using winner00 CM9 Kangs for a while now along with Franco's kernel and get great battery life and great performance.
I understand your frustration with the answers you had gotten up to this point, but 1 of the reasons for this is because you posted a question(Q&A section) in the development section. The general rule is if you didn't develop something, it doesn't belong here. I am sure the mods will move it when they see it, but I just wanted to let you know for future reference. It's really not a big deal. We all make mistakes, just some people think they don't and have to put you down for posting in the wrong section to make them feel better about themselves.

Here's another person for AOKP/Franco. Once AOKP and Franco move to 4.0.4 I'll move, until then though here I sit.
I'd move the thread myself if I had the ability to, but, I am of the same mind that I guess I'll stay stock on 4.0.4 until at least Franco releases his 4.0.4 kernel. Other than his kernel, I really could care less about the roms themselves as they always seem to make very little difference to my experience, especially since I use an aftermarket launcher anyway. But, since this is my wifes phone, and I didn't even bother to put GO on there, ROM's make it just easier to keep all the updates in one place. I just want to go with a ROM that has its own updater, so I don't have to keep grabbing zips and applying with CWM. It gets to be a PITA for me.
I see a ton of ROM threads based off tweaked versions of CM9, but is there an official straight up official CyanogenMod thread from the main developers themselves for the Galaxy Nexus ?
1. go on dev section
2. search CyanogenMod 9 (only 1 thread have this string in the title)
3. ?????
4. profit
(that the nighlty (experimental) thread, because there is no RC and no stable yet)
Like andQlimax said, there are no release candidates or stable builds compiled by CM team members yet. However if you have a look in the development section there is a dedicated (nightly) thread maintained by Imfloflo who compiles from the CM teams Github as it's updated. It is 100% CM, just compiled by someone that's not a member of the team.

hi,
i am coming from nexus s and really wondering, why there is no official cm9 for galaxy nexus?! a nexus not supported, times are changing...
but however, thanks for the infos regarding the nightlies! as far as i know these, they are not necessarily stable. so my question is, the ones provided, are they for daily use already, or is it a question of testing, as i went through the cm9 nightlies experience so far?

The latest nightlies are stable enough for everyday use, at least for me and bunch of other forum members.

It's because the nex is ICS, not GB. As it's still in nightlies and hasn't had an RC yet, no phones are supported in CM9, officially....
But the nightlies are definitely stable enough: I haven't had any major problems for ... well ... ever.
And here's the link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398495
i see, well, i did already have problems with nightlies, more than once!
of course it's not the big deal, because you simply flash another one...but actually i am too old for this sh*t!
i am going to stay with the aokp milestone 5 for now, seems to be quite a nice one...and stable!
Apparently CM9 is in a code freeze with an RC1 expected within the week.

agreed with this one. quick answer from me:for now, none of CM has been perfectly works. all of cm still in alpha version. when it becomes stable, it should be work perfectly. check out this page if you want to read more. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874
Thanks to both who answered. I did read the forum posts before asking in here but got lost in the sheet bulk of info here!
That is why I needed to clarify if I understood the prior research correctly.
Am not sure yet if there is any older ROM (CM7) for Galaxy W on which everything works, especially the camera which I use often.
Am hoping for ICS based ROM else a GB version in the meantime ... which I am actually asking about in here.
Thanks.

I know, that bulk of info is actually a history of the development process, If you did read it carefully and slowly, You'll understand every "flaws" on the current CM. Thats what XDA really is, a place to read and learn about Mobile development for those who are not a developer.
CM 7 has a buggy wifi, CM 9 still on alpha, camera buggy. I don't really know as I have never flashed them before, waiting for a stable release as I'm using wifi and camera extensively.

Thanks. Your comments helped a lot cuz i did not manage to figure out that Wifi was buggy in CM7.
I have a question:
Is the CM7 for Galaxy Wonder just Wifi buggy or is it for all the phones e.g. Galaxy S2, etc.??

Other phones with a completed CM7 Development has no major issues on their phone, thus, only the ones with unfinished development still has this bug, maybe other phones also had this issue, I did not know. My friend with LG Optimus P500 has a completed CM7 and it has no major issues, other friend with Galaxy S i9000 has a complete CM7 and no major issues.
If the CM7 for Galaxy Wonder is finished, I'm sure that there will be no major bugs
But as I know, CM7 may be stuck there unless we got a new developer to do it, since the current developer had moved to CM10 after the CM7 Alpha 3

Developer forum is developer forum, they develop, if what they develop is useful to other user, it is a benefit, if not, well it's their gathering place. XDA is not a place to make ROMs,it is a developer forum, so,no need to worry about it. When it (a ROM) is finished, it is finished

i think CM9 from acro is the most powerful and stable, they always provide us with better patch and improvements,
just wait until USB tethering and FM radio working on this ROM, so far, i'm not facing any force close warning with this rom

But I believe that if more developers are working on the same development, the progress may be faster, since they can get some helps rather than doing all by themselves, which is pretty heavy, really thankful to all the developers!

this, only works if there are lots of developer available. Our phone does not have this luxury, so we must do whatever we can to support the development.
IMHO, If we cannot develop, try to reproduce bugs and supply logcats to the devs, if we can't provide logcats, at least don't clutter the development thread with questions. I think it is one way to thank the devs

Hey everyone -
Got my S3 on the way which should be delivered monday. I'm pretty much planning to root/recovery/kernel/rom it as soon as it gets out of the box, and I was looking at the already available kernels over in the dev section. Seems the options are surprisingly limited. I've never had a galaxy phone, but I do have a galaxy player 5.0 which I've been developing a kernel for so I'm not entirely new to this game.
Normally I would know the answer to this question, which would be no. Are we US users not able to use kernels such as Siyah? His changelogs and descriptions say NOTHING other than "for SG3" and "one kernel for all" or something to that effect. If we can't use it, what's everyone using for a jellybean/non-samsung kernel these days?
And yes, I did look at the sticky at the top of the page and I've been searching all this stuff for days.. just wondering what's good is all. I'm after all the cpu/gpu overclocking, added schedulers and governors, init.rc, all the techy stuff.
Thanks!
Pulled this from the new user guide stickied in the general forum...as far i know this is the complete list of kernels for the devices covered by this sub forum unless there are any released since the last update to the sticky.

Sorry about that! I'm so used to the Q&A section over in SGP5-land not being used. Thanks for moving it.
I've already looked at all those kernels, apparently leankernel should also be on that list.. it's available over at rootzwiki for the 747. So siyah is a no-go then?
I was thinking about Siyah also lol, I'm glad I checked here

you might not see a ton of kernels here, but what we do have are great and have great dev support. additionally, some of the ROMs come packaged with such good kernels that there's no need to look anywhere else for one unless you just want to play around.
you'll hear the name "ktoonsez" a lot around here and will quickly forget about siyah...
Hey guys, im currently running CM10 (stable build). I was just wondering if anyone knows when the official stable build of CM10.1 will be released?? I know plenty of people run the nightlies and find those fairly stable, but i would like final, stable build of it. So if anyone could maybe speculate when it might be out, thank would be great! Also, if anyone could recommend a finished and officially stable build of any other 4.2+ ROM(s) that would be awesome as well.
Thanks a ton guys!:good:
Stop posting the same thread over again...you just made a similar post about 4.1.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187790) with in 30 minute of each other....what mt3g told you in there is no different from what you will be told in here.
stability is matter of personal opinion and the device in your hand...
do what the rest of us did..look in the BIBLE thread to find ALL the links to ALL of the different forms of roms and TRY them out like what the rest of us did. this will allow you to find whats best for you....do not put yourself in situations where you are easily flamed. I mean it can't be easier than that, all the links are in one thread...best guide for lazy people and those who do not want to do any research
this is no different, then those '"crap" threads. This is just an opinion cause your idea of stable is different then mine. Make the OP more clear with what you are looking for, if anything. The best answer is TRY THEM OUT lol.
