Porting Jellybam... - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm porting Jellybam to our phones... I got it to boot, however I do not have phone service (4g and wifi work fine) and the software keyboard will not pull up... anyone here have any idea how to get that resolved...?
Thanks guys, will be happy to share once it gets working.

wrong ril files? hardware keyboard option turned on in settings?

I've tried everything I can think of... can someone give it a try to see if they are smarter than me. This is Jellybam 4.0, and like I said above currently it boots, but the software keyboard will not come up (you have to download a third party keyboard and turn of the physical keyboard) and there is no phone service or 3g. Hardware keyboard, 4g, and wifi are all working...
This is my first port, and honestly have no idea what the hell I am doing... any help would be appreciated

No problem. I also needed to tether and couldn't use the ICS ROM either so I had to come up with a solution. I figured there were others out there in the same boat.

Do the GPS fix mentioned in the threads. You have to go back to the EL 29 ROM and get a GPS lock with maps. Then immediately go to recovery and nand restore your ICS ROM or just flash an ICS ROM and I promise you will get a lock. Sometimes it won't lock but if you turn off GPS and turn it back on it well lock immediately. It's like the wifi issue where I have to turn wifi off then back on in order for it to reconnect to a saved wifi connection. This sort of sucks but it's a reliable temporary fix.

I've only used this on Caulks ICS but I don't see why it wouldn't work on Mijahs since he uses Caulks as a base. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Thank you for this. This was also the big reason why I went back to el29 lol! Time for round two of ICS
Edit: this does work with 3G as well right? You only mentioned 4G

i got mine to work using the following:
Samsung Epic Touch 4G
Ad-hoc in setup method
checked Routing fix
in my computer wireless settings i right clicked on the icon in network and sharing, selected wireless properties, configure, advanced tab and enabled adhoc.
of course i enabled the wifi encryption and created a password. for a secure dedicated connection
working perfectly fine using Blazer Rom 4.0!

Yeah guys me too.. I have a Vaio laptop with Wifi direct. Tried to connect between my OneV and it did, but then what next? I tried sending a photo from gallery, but unlike share by bluetooth no option of wifi direct there... Would be helpful if someone posted a DIY. :fingers-crossed:
So... is there anyone out there that can help on this?
EDIT:
I read somewhere that we need an app from Google Play to use this feature...
Trying out now...
EDIT 2:
Never mind.. couldn't found any...

Looks like we are on our own here. I think it has to be enabled in Sense UI for us to use it. May be the next update of sense may bring this feature with an option of share->wi-fi direct.

WIFI TETHER on JELLY BEAN (FAKE)

So the title says it all!
This is aimed at us GS3 owners who are fortunate enough to be running Jelly Bean thanks to Freeza...Well one of the down sides of the LJ7 JB update is that WiFi Tether no longer works for us! What a shame!!
Well I may just have a solution that will make you and your phone very very happy.
Follow the steps below:
1) Download WiFi Tether app from Play Store
2) Open app, and hit Menu, then tap Settings
3) There should be an option in Settings to configure your device with the app, in that option change Galaxy SIII to Galaxy Nexus! This worked for me and I am now enjoying the pro's of LJ7 JB while tethering like a boss! haha
If this worked, please hit that thanks button, it helps me greatly

I am trying this but I can not make it work. The app says that it is working but nothing can see the SSID or connect.
I tried both of the nexus options and it's a no go.
Doesn't work
I'm just going to assume this method does not work. Sprint blocked the tethering in purpose, it doesn't work on jelly bean for the moment, unless you can show proof?

So this whole wifi tether issue. It seems fixable at some point and time. I had the hotspot working for like 2 days but never paid anything extra for it. It no longer works so I guess sprint is paying attention to something. LOL. I love the Jellybean though.
Tried it already...no go

Already tried them all. None work on JB...don't waste your time.
Does anybody know if it's possible to do USB tethering on Jelly Bean?
USB tethering works fine for me, using the 'easytether lite' app. Let's hope the wifi team solves the JB issue soon.

[Q] GS3 JB Root to get Wifi or back to ICS??

I've got two GS3's... One I've had for a while, is using Ice Cream Sandwich, is rooted and runs wifi tether just fine.
I got another one tonight for the wife and allowed it to update to JellyBean, but it seems we can't root Jellybean to get the free wifi tether. Is this correct or if I root it, is there a wifi tether that works?
If not, what steps do I take to switch back to ICS?
cm10 is one of the few jb rom which has working wifi tether. if you want to go back to ics you can probably find the ics odin tar, however i would just use one of the ics based roms on the thread.
Thanks! I kinda thought this is the direction I would need to go... Can you point me to a link to get the ICS ROM?

From what I can gather from xda and my own experience, wifi tether on cm10 is NOT working. Doesn't sound like it is a cm10 specific issue though. I am on nightly 11-07 and wifi tether appears to work fine but the client doesn't actually get access to the cellular internet data.
I would love to be corrected and get this working though!

I got the wifi tether that's native to CM10 to work when I installed CM10. Only problem now is that CM10 makes the functionality of the device so much different than the stock ICS or JB GS3 that my wife isn't thrilled. So, now my challenge is to find themes that best "look" like ICS or JB from Google.
Any suggestions???

Same thing happened to me, had to hit allow at least 20 times. Either case, ended up not working for me on stock rooted.
I also have stock rooted JB. It DID work. I tried on ipod touch, Galaxy Tab and a laptop. They all worked fine. Only problem was not being able to turn Wifi back on after shutting down tether. Had to reboot.
I used Nexus CDMA profile, encryption OFF, Access control ON.
It DOES work.

I've tried your EXACT same settings and it doesn't work. I can see the network, but can't connect. Without fallback tether checked, I don't even see the network at all. This is my luck, for sure.
Works for me. I didn't change a thing. I opened the app after installing it and pressed the wifi button in the center of the screen. It worked and my buddy with his iPhone was able to connect and browse the web.

yes trevE mod is the way to go after rooting w/ bin4ry or cubebycube through the command promp(right click on cmd run as administrator)
Note
Don ’ t try to open the procdefs.ld from Windows Explorer or using the default Windows
Notepad application; it won ’ t look pretty. This file was generated in a Unix environment and
does not contain the standard end-of-line sequence used by Windows programs. Instead use the
MPLAB Editor as I suggested.
But if your updated firmware version on your android hinders your speed like my friends s2 used to fly using pda.net now he just got a s3 and pda.net is slow so yeah buy a really spiffy usb sync cable and root the crap w/ trevE mod i guess and try opening some files plugging in text and crap don't know how familiar one is about sorting through files most importantly understanding how super classes or inherit classes are called by the main files, i'll have to scan through versions of trevE real quick
