Try vol_down+power combination or backkey+power...In case of a faulty button...
If not try to put the phone in fridge for 20 mins as this helps with the chipsets and then power it on.

i'm sure it will not work because after 30 mins attached to the power supply the mobile is cold... no signs of charging
Are you sure the phone is closed?Unplug the battery and plug it in and dont press any key...just plug your phone to the charger.if not again im afraid your phone is bricked...
and there is a difference between fridge and just leave it..Put it in the fridger.Low temperatures sometimes makes some chips to work and with this way we may open it.

Ok, heres the situation. My Desire is S-OFF, I just flashed a partition table (for Oxygen RC4) from fastboot and it was successful, then did a 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'. The phone then turned off, and didn't come back on :S
I left it for a good 30 minutes, nothing. So I pulled the battery, put it back in, and went to start it... nothing! But when I plug in the charger, the LED lights up green. As soon as I touch the power button, it disappears, and the phone is dead.
Someone help out a poor fellow?
Did you check the MD5 of the download? Maybe the file was corrupt...
Btw, Q&A would have been a better place to post.

Ouch :X so, im sorry, i really dont know
Hey guy's, well first off I just want to say I'm a big fan of android and especially xda-developers and all the helpful people on this site. I'm having a pretty big issue, one that I searched for a solution for 2 days now using the search function on here as well as google and many others available and I'm in a corner. I have an EVO 4G I bought from someone off craigslist and everything was fine for 3 weeks then 3 days ago the phone died and i plugged it in with no led light showing the charging status. I thought perhaps it was a bad battery so I bought another battery and with the little life the new battery has it turned on and got stuck on the HTC EVO 4G splash screen.
So I pulled the battery out and re-installed and booted into the bootloader menu only to find out more bad news. When I try to boot into recovery from the bootloader menu it goes to the HTC EVO 4G splash screen and stays there forever. I have tried to clear storage, in which it clears and says everything is ok reboots into the HTC EVO 4G splash screen and gets stuck again, So I'm really concerned now and I cant find a solution anywhere I've tried several different methods to flash amon RA recovery, I downloaded the zip file and changed the name accordingly so the bootloader menu would automatically recognize it and it said installed successfully but still to no avail, and I do not believe I am able to manually flash another recovery method because I cannot get into usb debuggine mode from the phone so I'm not sure how adb would even begin to recognise the phone.......... someone for love of all things fancy please help me!!!! I'm struggling!!! lol
Also this is what appears on my bootloader menu:

Try running RUU update. Download here:

this will revert you back to android 2.2, but this should fix your problem.

Do this, in this order...
Charge battery to full (since there's no way for you to tell how much charge there is you might as well be sure it's full...)
Boot to Bootloader
Select FASTBOOT with volume up/down
Press Power button to go into FASTBOOT
Plug phone in to PC
Run RUU.

Then it's possibly a bad battery or simply a brick now, because if you can't charge it normally, doing anything to get it working again is futile... If you have another battery try that, or if you can take it to a shop and try one of their batteries in it... That's all I can think of doing...

Well I don't think its a complete brick just yet the usb port can't be bad if fastboot reads the pc when connected and vice versa, however I went to frys and bought a universal battery charger and am charging the battery to full right now. I'll let you know something soon thanks for all your help so far.
Ok so I let the battery charge, re-installed and ran the RUU executable file it flashed and installed successfully but is at the same place still gets stuck on htc evo 4g screen
What Rom and kernel were you on when you discovered it at white screen.
Also, did you just find it at the splash screen? or did it random reboot or just not boot?

Ok I'm really stuck nothing is working for me the RUU ran and flashed properly just to get back stuck at the htc evo 4g screen again I was reading somewhere else that it needs to read S-ON on bootloader to flash the OTA RUU is this correct? and if so how can I change it with unrevoked if I cant get adb to recognize the device?

I read online that the GB version wasn't very good and its best to stay with Froyo unless that statement is wrong
**update**
I managed to get this RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe onto the phone, I had tried this already until I started repeatedly pressing the power key in the recovery menu and it started to install and was successful. its just rebooted but is it normal for it to stay on the white HTC screen for a while, it's been a few mins so far.
**update 2** I reflashed it and it now says Radio_V2 Failed-PU, not sure what this means
**update 3** the phone rebooted after the failed update and it now appears to have diesda death, not sure what has happened or how to fix it. it won't switch on, responed when connected to a computer, nor can i get it into recovery, any idea's on a fix?

As I have said it's not coming on even when I do the volume down + power, I left it connected to it's charger last night but i'm not sure it even did that as there was no led indication it was charging,
also each other time I put the file named PB99IMG it never asked to update it only ever said there was a file missing, that's when I came across the little trick of repeatedly pressing the power button while in the bootloader which seemed to force it as there was an status indicator in the top right corner which filled up, then it asked to update, the first flash went ok, but it hanged on the white HTC boot screen and did nothing for 20 mins so I started again and that's when I got a failure.

mine is still under warranty, but...is there any way they could detect the phone is s-off (maybe not, i don´t know) after ruu fails and phone is absolutely not responding to anything?
Hello guys and girls (maybe ? )
Ok so i'm sorry to bother you but i tried everything by myself, googling, searched the forum, followed the master Troubleshooting guide here but none of it worked (I'm not a noob with rooting installing roms and everything coz I had an Acer Liquid MT, an HTC Wildfire, and an HD2 on android).
Let me explain. A friend as retrieved an HTC Desire where is father works. But the problem is that this poor Desire appears to be bricked (he thinks that the battery has been pulled out during update), so he asked me to get it back for daily use.
So when powering up the phone, i have the basic htc screen with the /!\ in all the corners. The when i plug in the Desire to my pc and then unplug it, i have a white screen that looks to be the hboot menu, but broken as i can't do anything with it.
When plugged, in my pc, the Desire seems to be recognized coz Windows notifies me with the normal plug in tone and i can see the phone in the device management window. Installing the WWE RUU as recommanded in the Master thread doesn't work, it says that there was an error tried to connect the phone through USB (not connected). I'll end that saying all the key combos doesn't work, i can just boot as normal (the key combos boots the phone as normal, bringing me to the /!\ screen.
Before anyone is asking me, I correctly installed HTC sync with av on and then reinstalled with av off, tried fastboot and didn't see the device (but i may did something wrong as i cannot see my HD2 on android too)
All the informations about the phone i can provide are :

The problem is that the key combo for hboot (Vol - + Power if i'm not wrong ?) Brings me to the /!\ screen. I tried this method with an old RUU including a froyo rom. My only way to go to what it seems to be the hboot menu is to power on, plug and unplug. But can't do anything while there.
But maybe the vol - doesn't work but i have no information about this.
Anyway thanks for the quick reply

The following will seem incredible but i put it in the freezer and waited like 5mins. And now i just started back the update process and the phone doesn't vibrate for now and the total progress state is a 27%.
EDIT : after 3-4 mins stucked at 27% the phone restarted vibrating.

I unplugged, to stop vibration, progress was still at 0% after near 20 mins or more. I stopped, letting the phone cooling down. The following will seem incredible but i put it in the freezer and waited like 5mins. And now i just started back the update process and the phone doesn't vibrate for now and the total progress state is a 27%.

Yeah i think so. But if i'm able to complete the ruu installation, the phone may be overheat again in daily use ?

Ok,so i finaly managed ton completely install the RUU. I waited 40min with the phone in the freezer, and completed the installation with the computer right next to the freezer, the phone in it. And now, the phone bootloop stuck at the HTC logo with white screen after 1st vibration, and then vibrate 7 times before shutting down itself and restarting again.
EDIT: This problem seems much easier to fix now (except the fact that the phone can overheat). As i have a normal access to hboot now i'll try to install a custom recovery tomorrow (need to sleep now ><).
Anyway thank you for your precious help jmcclue
Ur phone needs to be atleast rooted to install recovery but im affraid recovery wont help at all if its hardware failure. Did ur friend buy the phone new? If so he mite still have warranty on it. (going by the date in that pic) its a job for HTC to replace the motherboard.

And for funny purpose, rooting the phone requires that it correctly boots in Android right ? Grrrr . I have another Desire, but can't get it to boot, seems that it has been taken apart and remounted with feets. If i could take it's motherboard to try. But haven't got tools for that.

Put your phone in the freezer for 10 minutes with the battery taken out, then see if you can boot.

Seriously ..... well i'll do it cause some of other tech device worked
If your mobile is completely not working even not going in hboot mode than ur phone is dead..............means ur bootloader broke. There is no home fix...... You should go to market and said for jtag jig. If not work u should change ur motherboard.
If ur hboot mode working than keep battery out about 6,7 hours than try to go in hboot and leave it........
Download 2.2 or 2.3 android offical for desire and than install it on ur phone.....
You should follow the steps which they said........
One thing is that u don't use ur phone in installation means don't press a single button.

Please read and inform yourself a bit before posting.
His phone goes in hboot, but does not boot in recovery. This indicates that the phone could have an overheating problem. That's why I suggested putting the phone in the freezer. If it boot after the freezer trick, then it's a motherboard problem.
No need for ruu's, or jtag jigs, or letting the phone sit for 6 hours.

Hey i also take ur advice to put my phone into freezer it just turn on for about an hour and it completely turn off even not going in hboot or fastboot.
When i read another xda forum than i noticed that due to putting battery in freezer there is now a little bit of water in it and damaged my phone.

It's not the water. If you only let it for 10 minutes in the freezer, there should be no water. Your motherboard is the problem. It overheated. It's a known hardware issue of the Desire.
You'll have to change your motherboard.
