With limited storage available on our Nexus 4, PeerDeviceNet allows WiFi transfer of Pictures, Movies (via Gallery) and other files (via ES File Explorer etc) over a WiFi network without using an router or AP.
I'm about to go to Panama and would like to bring along only my Nexus 4 and my G-tablet (Froyo 2.2) for pictures and video shooting. I quickly realized that I need extra storage for my Nexus 4 16G if I was to use it for video. My G-table has an SD card slot and all I need is to connect the two devices somehow and transfer the files from the N4 to my G-Tab's SD card whenever I need to free up storage on my N4. While most WiFi transfer Apps require the 2 devices to be connected on the same network via an AP, PeerDeviceNet setup an WiFi Direct AP on my N4 whereas my G-Tab can connect to. Once connected, I can initiate file transfers from either device.
This for sure is one solution that trumps the Kingston WiFi Wi-drive. :good::good: Give it a try:

Hey there
Is there a way to access my phone's SD card when only connected via wifi? At best mounting the SD card as a drive like in usb mode. (tricking the phone into thinking it's on a cable, maybe?)
This would be so superb
Cheers
It's not exactly what you asked for but I use SwiFTP, I can browse in Firefox quite easily.
See this thread.

Its the extended desire console. The part you want to use is the samba share.
When you have this installed you can access your desire the same way you would access files on another computer over your home network.
Search the market for WiFi File Explorer. I bought the Pro as its cheap... works perfectly!

I tried going into "Media Device (MTP)" and then tried "Camera (PTP)". Neither seemed to work. Any ideas?
Specs: Mac OS X 10.7.4, 2008 pre-unibody Macbook Pro, unrooted T-mobile Galaxy S3 (white)
I tried for like 30 minutes to get my phone to work with a mac. Ended up using Airdroid and just transferring files over wifi.
I personally use wifi file transfer.

Thanks, Airdroid looks great. But for transferring large files, wi-fi is pretty painful. Just for the sake of brutal comparison, I found I was getting less than 1/10 the transfer speed (on video files 300-500mb) over wi-fi. Guess I'll have to get windows running on my mac again...unless there's a way to actually do file transfer over usb on my Mac..? (without cracking open my phone and removing the msd card)
I've run into the same issue myself. The phone is recognized, but nothing ever happens as far as the drives popping up.
Best workaround is to just use parallels if you have access to it...

Another option is to pull the SD card and plug that into your Mac. Luckily I have a PC as well so I don't have to come up with a workaround.
Guys, ive been mounting android phones via usb to my ps3 since my g1 days.
How can I connect my note 2 to my ps3 for it to recognize it to transfer my videos, pics, and such over just like every other galaxy device?
Am I missing something stupid or is the new touchwiz a jerk and ill only be able to do it as a media server via wifi, which takes forever for files over a gig.

Yeah its not tw, i think its ics and above. The mass storage is no longer. either do as you said via wifi media server or transfer to a flash drive via otg cable then to ps3 via flash drive.

So dumb. I rooted and stayed stock. Now im leaning toward AOSP just because of this headache

If memory servers me well, I believe the PS3 will only recongize FAT32 for external drives. I don't believe that is the phone's native format. I would try formatting your phone storage--internal or microSD--and see how it goes. Just remember, FAT32 has a file limit size of 4GB.
I believe Windows 7 can do the formatting for you. I believe they got rid of that lame 16GB total size limit. If not, you can use use a Ubuntu live CD and format it that way.
you can always just use an old phone that has mass storage and a microSD slot like a lg rumer2 or something like that and transfer files thats what i do,
I also miss this feature.
I use settings, more settings, nearby devices, file sharing. (Have to have both connected to wifi I believe)
Then from ps3 search for media server.
It's slower for me, but being wireless is a plus

OK....I have this problem I can't seem to figure out. I have the media hub. I have tried to connect internet 'through' then hub. It will NOT connect to my home WiFi, using my asus tf300t and nexus 7 2013. The hub will reboot (I have tried everything and followed directions to a T) It will not connect. The 3rd light doesnt come on (no internet).
I've tried it also with my note 2....to connect WiFi......it won't do it.
Here's the kicker......I turn on my hotspot via my note 2 and do the directions again to the T.....and I have internet connect into my hotspot!!!!!!! ( tried on both tablets).....WHAT GIVES..... I am completely not knowing why....
(I have not tried a different WiFi source yet) like my work or some other WiFi.....could it be that I simply can't with my home WiFi?
This is very disheartening.

Another explorer?
amazing devices indeed, and nice review that answers a lot... still I have two inquiries
is it possible to access the devise using another file explorer like the "ES file explorer" on android?
is it possible to connect the device to my home wifi network like all of my devices, and then access the device trough my home network like a network disk drive? i.e without connecting to the sandisk wifi network directly
thanx in advance

Sorry to disappoint when you see a response....but those questions I have aswell....and hopefully someone(s) will have answers
The drive is accessible through it's own App/explorer which you need to install, not outside file explorers. It can be connected to your wireless router at home and setup to be as a path-through router, but the files are only visible when you install Sandisk app with it's file explorer. In theory, it's a media streaming devices for your phones and tablets, and to enable that you need to install their app.
Sandisk wireless drive USB connect with ES file explorer
ES file explorer has full access to the Sandisk connect wireless wifi USB drive.. It is simple. Use newest firmware:
(unable to paste as link) kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12876/~/sandisk-connect-wireless-flash-drive-support-information
I use a Nexus7 2012 running Lollipop factory unrooted.
Upload, download, multiple files, etc . No restrictions as in sandisk app. Only problem I have noticed are screwed photo thumpnails.
- connect to drive wifi
- open sandisk app / connect drive / goto settings
- copy web URL (e.g. 175.xx.xx.xx/wdf)
-Open ES file explorer newest release, goto Network / network
- tap + for new server
- add new "webdav " server. Paste copied URL. Standard port 80
- When on a shared network you have to supply the standard user name "owner" and your password
- thats it!
Enjoy!!!

Please forgive me, but does that mean OTHER apps can store files directly to the device without interaction with the Sandisk s/w?
I want to record video in clips of 2 or 3 minutes in a non stop loop, but I have Nexus 5 with 16 GB, so that's not enough by a long shot, and the phone needs to be powered by external source, so USB HOST storage solution is out of the question.
Please let me know, thanks.

No, it doesn't work that way. Sorry.
Any tips to make it work with other h/w and or s/w?

I've tried airdroid before but the files half the time end up corrupted. I just want to back up all my cbrs and pdfs I have on my Nexus so I can restore after a rom install. Helium doesn't seem to have that option. Nexus Root Toolkit ignored the folders - I guess it's because it's not in data\media
Cloud storage? MicroUSB SD card? MicroUSB to computer?
I ended up using Solid Explorer and a FTP connection - out of all the options I tried, this was the fastest and the most reliable
What about google drive or dropbox?
The ftp route worked the best and was faster than any other option could be. It was also over 5gbs so space would have been an issue
