Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, I can't seem to find an answer to the question I want to ask.
I've just upgraded to my HOX and have flashed it with the latest venom Rom. Everything is ok, but what I'm confused about is why do we need to go into the downloader everytime we want to flash a new Rom.
What I mean is why does the boot img file have to be extracted from the custom Rom and then loaded via a command prompt? I'm not complaining by the way. Would just like to know why this is the case.
On my desire hd it was just a case of rebooting into recovery and then flashing. All done.
Would love to find out what you guys can tell me.

Because we have S-on devices, the boot.IMG can only be flashed this way.

Hi guys,
can anyone plz help me with my problem
i have unlocked wildfire s from other forums tutorials but since xda's tuts were confusing now it seems to be same & i unlocked it officially from htcdev.com
now it has a superuser and its rooted and i have to install customs rom but its ends with bootloop
i have s-on , does it take to make it s-off and then flash custom roms to work properly?
If Yes ?
please give me the link
I have search entire forum but a bit confused also read stickies
also can anyone tell which rom is better for better saving?
cm9 or wildchild v3.0 or anyone?
Thanks
u dont need s-off to install custom rom...u just need to unlock bootloader. Flash a custom recovery like CWM recovery and then flash c.......ustom roms...
both wildchild and cm9 are nice roms....but cm9 has got some bugs...

thanks blogslogger for the link
When ever installing a custom rom, always make a nandroid backup. Then in recovery do a factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache. Once you've done those steps you can install the custom rom and hopefully it should boot up without a problem.
TUTORIAL
Here's a full tutorial for bootloader unlocking, recovery installing, rooting and custom rom (cyanogenmod 10) installing:

Hello,
You have two possibilities:
1. To unroot/relock your bootloader, update via RUU or thru menu- settings-about- software update
2. Update your bootloader to version 1.36 and then use every cutom JB rom you like. For this search in the forum in section Android development for bootloader update tool.
If I was you I would choose 2.
Regards and Happy NewYear!

Please, i need a working link to get a version 1.36 to bootloader, you have it
Thanks soo much
First read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
[TOOL] JB FW Easy Flasher & Fastboot Toolkit *Update Dec21* hboot 1.31/1.33/1.36/1.39
With this tool you will upgrade the hboot of your phone to version 1:36. This is needed to have because this is the hboot number for your CID- 044 and with it you can use JB ROM. Read carefully the first page and if you have any questions asked them before go to upgrade.
After it's clear for you how to upgrade hboot install the update tool to your PC and go.
If it's not clear or you have doubts just ask your questions here.
Regards.

As you are so upset I can advice you to unroot your devise and install the factory bootloader- search for a thread about
Return to factory settings or such in Android Tread.
Or ask someone to help you and flash your phone himself.

I suggest you restore your HOX to stock rom, stock recovery, and relock bootloader.
Then download RUU from here http://www.htcruu.com/securekey.php...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_296434_signed.exe
After finish RUU update, you will have the new bootloader.
You can find everything that you need for your HOX in this thread :

hi all, i'm coming from a desire s wich have s-off,
with HOX the things is different, with unlocked device & s-on we need to flash the dear "boot.img" ,my question is :
do whe have flash the img after or before flashing modules?(*.zip) because i've read many topic but for example in cyanogen post we have to flash zip and after the boot.img ,but in the ARHD we have to do the opposite.
there is a general rule? or it simply varying depending on the rom?
regards ^^

i used ARHD and , first i flashed the rom and then i rebooted to bootloader and then flashed the boot.img.
I've read somewhere that in this case you may have issues...mmmm...do you use the latest version of arhd?
You can flash the boot.img before or after flashing the modules.. Your choice.. Whatever suits you..
But I always prefer to flash it after flashing the modules.

Why don't you want to extract files before executing them? It's really not a good idea to run file from an archive.

Maybe you need to run the file as Administrator. Or try to download the zip file again...
But you DON'T REALLY NEED s-off to install custom ROMs. It's even more likely that you will brick your phone when it is s-off when you are able to change initial partitions.
Really?!! Thank you!!

The only thing you have to remember when you have s-on hTC phone - every time when you will flash custom ROM, you must flash compatible kernel manually using fastboot command (recovery is not able to flash boot partition when s-on). So read OPs very carefully about kernels compatible with that ROM. Most often the best kernel file is included within a ROM zip file (boot.img). Good luck!
Really thank you!
