[Q] does s beam have a google wallet like feature. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I keep getting conflicting information. I've read articles saying that s beam can pay for things but they never elaborate. Demonstrate or mention it other than in the title of the article. It's like a damn back drop. When to me it's an important feature. It's the only reason I want NFC in the first place. I've already done some searching and I don't want to have to use a root mod to get google wallet to work. So can anyone tell me with certainty and possibly explain how to setup paying for things with s beam like google wallet?

S beam is samsungs little nfc utilizing file transfer protocol. Nfc is what you are talking about.
I dont use google wallet but it does work on our phones. Many of the new roms have it ready to go. Check out clean rom 4 or jellythunder for people using google wallet. I dont see how it doesnt work on stock.

It's blocked in the att version Rom. At&t doesn't want us to use it.

New Dragon Go! Voice Recognition App

I just saw articles about this new software and it looks promising. Nuance has been doing voice recognition for a long time so perhaps they have finally brought Siri like functionality to Android.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-a-stellar-voice-recognition-app-for-android/
Only problem is that as of now, it can't be found in the market on our phones and the market says our phone is not compatible when I search from a computer. Does anyone know how to get the .apk? I'm sure the market will allow us to download it soon but I don't like waiting.
Also, has anyone tried this on another phone yet? Any feedback?
The apk can be found in the comments in your link
Thanks. Didn't realize it was already there.
Here is the link if anyone is interested in trying it out. I'll report back my experiences once I use it for a while...

I am impressed.

Where is the money?
As a Dragon user on the PC I can tell you that Nuance isn't known for giving things away or doing anything for cheap. Since they aren't charging for this app, at least not yet, makes me wonder where the money is.

Siri eat your heart out

Since Jelly Bean is only out on GN I figured this would be the appropriate place to put this:

I know this has already been discussed in other JB threads and voice actions are somewhat gimmicky but that is really cool. Impressed by the sports and local stuff.

This is only available on jelly bean? It wouldny work for paranoid android rom at all?

Love this new voice stuffs. Killing all my friends on their "fancy" iPhone4S'.
Great video! I have been super impressed with the voice features in JB.

Just got word that Samsung and Google are working together to push out the OTA update to REMOVE this function to get around the apple dispute
http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/galaxy-nexus-not-available-in-play-store.html 3rd paragraph
Mine already isn't working like it used too
If I ask for the weather it does a Google search ... anything I ask or say it does a Google search

I'm not sure if Google Now is what they will remove. Besides, this is only a temporary workaround just to be able to sell phones again. If they can dismiss and prove Apple wrong they will put the feature back and also get about 95 million from Apple which had to put this much in bond to be able to mitigate.
Apple is so scared of competition they will try to do whatever it takes to eliminate it. Since Google Now is light years from that dumb Siri, it really shows how little resources Apple has compared to Google. After all, we all know none of Apple's engineers can think alike... they all "think different"
Probably the quick fix for now to work around the injunction. Hopefully a '#boycotapple=true' flag needing to be set to re-enable.

Lol. Nice.
They are changing the search so for example if I type pulse in the search bar I get a preview of what's available. If I have pulse installed I can launch the app right there. Its a universal search that apple is up on arms about . The OTA will just show online results and not the app installed on the device. This was what was filed in April, there are no lawsuits yet on the Google now features. But you can count on apple finding something that relates to one of their rephrased patents that already exist

The only thing I use unified search for:
1.) Google Searches
2.) Looking up artist/song name to automatically start playing (which could be done in 1-2 extra clicks anyway).

Enabling NFC on CM10 for S3? Maybe I'm just blind?

So I searched for the answer, but everyone seems to say that GW is working on CM10...I did get it installed with the workaround, but what I'm finding is that in my Settings app in CM10, that there is no NFC option. Am I just blind and missing it in a different menu, or why does it not show up? I'm using the newest 7/29 stable build.

Don't hold this answer against me, but I am pretty sure that the NFC drivers are absent, Since CM10 is still in preview phase.

Not true. Tons of people using Google Wallet (NFC), and I'm using NFC Task Launcher just fine.

So I'm curious...on CM10, where should the settings be? Am I missing something, or should I reflash? Also...my soft buttons are gone?! Just the lights...they still work...
WOW!
I thought I was loosing my mind. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I scoured these forums so much today my phone ran out of juice around noon. I wonder why some S3 747 users are having issues and others aren't. I have the AT&T variant and am using the 07/29 preview release just like the other posts. I have already done all the wallet fixes, but can't seem to find how to turn the nfc on either. Can you tell us the work around you used to get yours to work?
I'm having the same problem, NFC options do not appear in settings and Google Wallet states that NFC is disabled. This is on an ATT SIII, running CM10.
Exactly...no idea on my end. I'm also finding that Android File Transfer doesn't work, so I can't use my new SD card...I also cant back up, since my current one is full...feeling like Im stuck for now.

You're running the preview build, right? Did you have to do anything to get NFC running or was it enabled by default?
So... By any chance, did you miss a step in the wallet workaround install? I had the exact same problem. Ended up having to wipe and reinstall my rom. Then follow the wallet workaround instructions exactly. Also, if you ever installed wallet from the market, go in and make sure auto update is unchecked. If you look at the original wallet thread in the development forum you'll see this happened to a couple of folks. Not sure of the cause, but I know that I had to reflash and also disable that auto update. I'd recommend a nandroid right after you reflash a clean rom and verify that nfc settings are there (under wireless - more).
HTH
Good luck!

Thanks for that, but that was the first place I checked...since that's where it always is. The whole problem from the beginning was that it wasn't where it should be.
Anyway....
Good news. I found a workaround if it's missing. If you install CM9, make sure its there, then do a no-wipe install of CM10...there it is. Not sure why that works, or why it's missing in at least a few people's downloads of CM10, but that's my workaround. Going to try the newest version wallet workaround now and make sure it works.
I'm running into a really strange problem... while running a clean install of CM10, NFC is available in the menu. However, after installing Google Wallet via this method:
blog.tekkidd.com/2012/07/howto-install-google-wallet-on-att-samsung-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747
the settings option for NFC disappears.
I can run NFC by going through root access and installing nfc.apk from the app folder, however, this makes the phone EXTREMELY unstable, and it will begin to freeze up every few minutes. For the time being, it looks like the best option would be to wait for Wallet compatibility to be improved in the coming updates.
That is really weird. What I did was flash CM9, then CM10. (now I'm on paranoid android...but anyway). NFC was there, then I used the method listed in the Q&A section to load the newest version. Of course, when I went to McDonald's to use it...it failed...as it always has ( I had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus at one point). I've never seen NFC actually work for real. I don't know what it is, but maybe the people that run the businesses don't have it turned on correctly. I was really wanting to see it work too.

Will Google Voice search have full app launch and everything like s voice?

I saw a demo online comparing s voice to google voice search, and of coarse for 95% of the things google won no contest, but I was surprised that s voice could say update twitter and give a message and work, where google could not do this at all yet. Just wondering if they are planning on it being able to do basically everything the other can but better?
You mean Google Now? I believe it comes with every phone/tablet that has JB. If we get JB on the S3 then we will get Google Now, unless they disable it so we become stuck with garbage S Voice.

I think OP is referring to have more control with Google Now like specific app or hardware controls.

Yes this is what I meant. Again if you look online for demos one of them shows that it works well, but still does not have full control or access to all apps and such, it literally gives an error that the feature is not working yet. I can only assume since it gives that actual error that they are planning on it having this ability soon, which makes since.

That feature doesn't appear to be available on any phone just yet, it just brings up a google search.
I dunno, I tried Google now and really didn't find it all that great. I couldn't launch apps or dictate what I want done on the app. s voice has been pretty solid for me.

Judging from the recent i9300 international JB leak, it looks like we will have access to both S-Voice and Google Now. So for those who prefer one over the other, it looks like SGS3 users will be able to use either which is good news. I was hoping that Samsung wouldn't remove Google Now from the JB rom when it comes out and so far looks good
I kinda hope they just put the ability to control apps in Google Now, I would not want to have to swap from one to the other just to ask a question, then swap to the other to launch an app. Might as well just launch it manually if your gonna have to do that each time. S Voice is only better for this one thing, ask it anything that requires it to look on the web for the answer and its slow as hell, Google Now is the best for this now, better than siri, so add in the app control and its the king.
I hope with the official JB release coming out soon we will find out for certain if Google Now will have full app controls like s voice.
S voice six because its developed by vlingo who IMO was the worst assistant app... I have the note with paranoid android 4.1.1 and Google now is awesome..until someone ports it to your device I recommend assistant from the Google play market

NFC beam?

Can Samsung phones beam things to other phones? Whenever I've tried to beam a video from a SGS3 to my phone it never works. However I can beam things to it. Is there a size limit using NFC or is it due to Samsung having S beam and me having android beam.

I've beamed and been beamed from a Nexus 4, so yes
From my gs3 to a EVO lte

Thanks I'll try sending a smaller file tomorrow. I'm usually sending HD videos for projects so that could be the issue

Ive been having the most ridiculous time trying to beam things just from one gs3 to another.
Im on an AOSP rom and my friend is on stock, every time I try to beam even the smallest of pictures, im talkin 80kb in size, i am greeted with an error that says something along the lines of "large file sizes not supported"
anyone know what thats about? pretty damn inconvenient.
You guys do realize nfc beaming and Sbeam are different things? If the person with the S3 has Sbeam turned on and you don't have an s3 it will have issues. When transferring from s3 to like let's say Gnex the s3 must have Sbeam turned off and only nfc transfer turned on.
Sent from the future via Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
I dont know what your getting at. We both have S3s, thats why this shouldnt be a problem.
im starting to think that the NFC functions included in my rom of choice are just total bs. You cant really turn off Sbeam and keep NFC (from stock) can you?
the fact that they are two totally different things and cant get along even tho they provide the same function infuriates me to no end. Guess ill just stick with bluetooth transfers, I feel like im stuck back on my samsung epic.
My comments where directed more at the OP who is trying to transfer between two different devices using nfc.
I have 2 S3 at home both running custom roms I have no issue transferring files, contacts, pictures, videos, you tube, Web pages from one to the other. Maybe you should post the question in the thread of the Rom you are using. Maybe others have similar results as you or don't but I think that's where you should begin. Your Sig says your a Sprint technician you should know exactly how it all works and if it doesn't it has to be an issue with the Rom. AOSP most likely none of the TW add ons like Sbeam will work, just my observation.
And yes you can turn Sbeam off and still use the nfc transfer function.
Sent from the future via Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
I can turn NFC (not s-beam) and transfer with my friends nexus 7 just fine. Yes, you can "android beam" to other phones/devices with NFC capability.
Just make sure, of it isn't a Samsung device that has the s-beam feature, only turn on NFC.
If it is a Samsung device with s-beam, then turn on both.
