Hey guys, I'm super newbie to all this. I rooted my phone with an optimized ics rom about a month ago. It was a T-Mobile from however. It made my better life awesome. But it was still touch wiz etc. Then jb came out right after.
Is there a dev who is making a jb from for telus that is optimized for battery life and no touchwiz?
Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks a million.

All you can do is wait and see. There's an alpha cm10 out for the skyrocket and ported to our phone...but still has bugs and no camera...as far as tw jb there's n/a and just so you know this thread is for development there's already a job topic on the general section.

You have two choices flash with CWM or odin. Mostly all the roms in here are setup to be flashed with clockwork. Please read the stickies in development and wickys to get yourself better acquainted with your phone and flashing...... Questions to the masses may bring up more opinions than fact.

OK.
I will just have to keep an eye out for vanilla jelly bean over cwm.

As the title says what roms do you guys like best. I don't have much time with work and my home business to try them out atm. And not having my note rooted is driving me nuts, its been 4 days since I got it, lol.
There's very little difference imo. Clean Rom is great if you want the most basic stock experience. If you want multi window feature, you'll have to use one of the others

Backing up the stock rom now. Going to try CleanRom. Thanks for the motivation, it didn't take much, lol.
Clean Rom is said to break LTE.

A lot of people have been reflashing back to stock form CleanRom due to problems with LTE.
If only I know how to port,
You guys have so many options to choose from, we only have like 3 or 4 to choose from and they are all TW
Hoping the wondering devs here can port like aosp, aokp, cm10, 10.1. Or even miui
It will be greatly appreciated!!
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
It would probably be better to ask your devs to port those roms. Since they know what files would be needed.

Hey studying up on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411 may be a good place to start. Naturally since this is a att forum the files to be inserted would come from an att ROM but I don't see why it wouldn't work if you substituted T-Mobile files in place of the att replacement ones wouldn't work. It will open up a bunch of tw based ROMs but it'll give ya a good learning experience for one day working in aosp if your interested in it. Hopefully some more people interject on this because I think it would be beneficial to all of our forums to get this solid.

it's coming, the family is working on something, but it is TW based to start. dunno where it'll go from there, but there will not be any barf green
cooking a rom / theming ports etc take time and we all have lives outside of xda. patience is rewarded

In most cases your modem is not effected by flashing our roms. You only flash a modem if you loose your data connection. Im not sure about kernels but I dont think that would effect anything either. Not on tmo so can't say fir sure.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
People with TMo have been flashing CleanROM just fine. I can't speak for the other ROMs, but I'm pretty sure they're all on the same base...which isn't even an AT&T base
Ya I'm on clean Rom

So i'm looking to root a friends att galaxy s3 they want multiview on their phone.
I want to keep it as much stock as possible but with multiview added on.
I found synergy rom and it looks good but i want to find the best one and there's quite a few in the developer section.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
What's this multi view everyone be talking about? Haha
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
You got tow options: galaxymod or synergy ROM. Both are ported from Verizon and have a bit of a learning curve as a few pesky bugs remain. I suggest you not do it as issues more than likely will arise than can be fixed but unless its your phone I highly suggest against it.
I'm running galaxymod and its awesome and elegant. Might want to try yourself first if you insist.

Damn, i guess i'll just root it and debloat it for him for now then. Thanks for the info.

Once he gets acquainted with Android and having a rooted phone and comfortable asking questions then have him flash it. I love the ROM but it has a learning curve on our devices.
Or Has The Development For This Phone Seriously Slowed Down?
The S4 came out. Many are working on both devices or more, 5 or so Roms just got updated I wouldn't see that as slowing down very much. This is also the time a lot of people get the used device to Dev on so many may come to our community as well. If you get "bored" you can try to build yourself or use att Roms also, so long as they don't have their updater-script device specific.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I think the above is true. It's just not shiny enough anymore. I still love it though!
Another aspect, from a development point of view is: why? Why develop for the S3? It's already over-saturated with (mostly) TW and AOSP ROMs. And one ROM is pretty much the same as the next. What I'm trying to say is, nobody is going to reinvent the wheel, because there is nothing wrong with the one we're using. If I'm being honest, we already have a ridiculously large selection of ROMs to choose from. There's not really anything to update.
Well over in sprint forum we have cnexus working on the sense five rom...i dont think its slowing to much
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
There is always a slow down between major Android releases as well. We will see a huge uptick once 4.2-based TW ROMs launch and even more when key lime pie launches.

Yup, I'm a great example! I was gone for what, almost 6 months I think. Real life comes first for sure!
As far as roms go, I'd much rather have just a few really solid ones than anything.

This!!! And further more like aerowinder stated, there isn't much more that can be done. Almost all AOSP Roms have the same issues and will continue to for the most part, they all use the same overall base for the most part, if one has more "features" it is more prone to breaks, same goes for TouchWiz Roms. The more stuff messed with and customized the larger the chance for breaks. I think the forum is bloated as is but thats not a problem as it gives options.

Im just hoping on a ubuntu build just for the hell of trying something new but other then that rocking miui v5 because every aosp rom is about the same so are the touchwiz one's..

I completely agree with this, I find roms that are closest to stock, AOSP or Touchwiz, to be the ones that are the most pleasant to use.
Not trying to bash all the hard core rom cooks out there who packs in features into their roms, it is just my preference. You guys are doing an excellent job.
I know how much work it takes to develop a piece of software, especially when working by yourself or a tiny team. And for free.

I'm watching Ubuntu development and its not progressed any further on the kernel level than the last kernel I posted - it's in Development if you want to try out the OS but nothing works. I have to wait for Ubuntu to update the kernel source... They're still using 4.1.2 source code which is what they launched with. They need to work on the kernel before it's going to be any use.
First release isn't until October so I don't think they are going to do much kernel development right now and instead they're going to focus on app development

No one is working to port 4.2.2 update to our phone..
I am relatively new to S3,, is it really difficult to get 4.2.2 from international s3?
and in original android development, besides cm, paranoid asop roms there is nothing else.

It is not possible to port international ROMs to the Us S3. Entirely different hardware. We will have to wait for an official 4.2.2 release or rely on AOKP, AOSP, CM, etc.

That is typical after a device has been out for a year or so... It will slow down a bit.
I wouldn't worry too much, though. Our devices are going to get the 4.2.2 update... Things will pick up again.
I heard a leak may be exposed within the week. Rumor, of course... But from Samobile.com, they are typically a good source of information for stuff like that.

Seems to be in the comments here:

Can't find much else about it but I guess we'll know tomorrow?
I found this... it seems that a fixed leak for the international version is what's coming...

Yeah I about lost my mind trying to keep up with some of those comments haha.
It looks like its the I9300 for sure though, we haven't even had one test build for US variants and it makes sense, especially with all the features of the S4 that Samsung is porting over. Like it or not, they are always going to update Exynos devices before Qualcomm, especially when it comes to the S3 because of the relatively large disparity between the performance of the two versions.
