my phone is not rooted and on stock jelly bean 4.1.1 with software number 3.14.401.31
please help.
Thank you so much.
I'm not sure what you exactly mean... Could you describe the "clicking" a bit more precisely?

Sorry for the confusion. the sound is like ticking. After I make a sound on my phone like sending message on viber and watsapp, there will be a ticking sound (maybe abount 3 or more ticks/clicks sound). the tick is intermittent. please help.
thanks,
I had this a lot when I first got my phone, it seemed to get fixed with the later ics roms I used but its returned since being on jb.

i never had this before on ICS. Only now on JB.
Might have something to do with the audiodriver, i recall a similar issue on one of the musicbox mods ....... the closing of the sounddriver caused small ticks like you descibed. As if it is getting a peak signal.

Hi, I experienced the same on my HOX some days after purchasing it last August. It was running ICS and in my case I had installed a Sound Equalizer app which in my case seems to have been the reason of the clicks. I wrote to the assistance service and thay suggested me to remove this crap and since then I had no clicks ever. If you have any Equalizer or Sound Booster app, I suggest you to remove them and give it a try without using them. I hope this can be helpful to someone and please excuse my english.
I don't see why everyone is worrying about this. The sound clicking you describe is more like a POP when a sound or music has ended.
Let me Explain why this happens:
The sound vibrations are immedietly stopped when the DAC mutes itself when it's no longer needed, this immediate stop for the vibration makes this POP noise. You can get these sounds in all types on electionic devices which can output sound, it's totally normal
You cannot stop these from happening permanently, but there is a way to reduce this. Turn off all sound-altering applications (EQs, Reverbs, Virtualizer, etc) this will cause the sound to vibrate less and thus reducing the loudness of that POP noise
I suggest you to never modify the speaker's audio as the POP noise might worry you (Much louder POP sounds) but there won't be any problem with the speaker
If you like to modify your audio, you will have to get used to that popping noise (like me) and it will sound normal to you in the future.
I hope this information was very helpful
Very ! Nice to see you here zero ! Still developing outside xda, i still have the link from your website but hasn't been there for a while
I think i found what makes this sound ticks. Its the equalizer app that I installed. I tried to turn off the app and the sound ticks were gone.
Thanks for all your responses.

Some of you may have this problem, some of you may not, but me and my cousin have this problem with our G2 where the sound from the other line is very quiet for us when we use the phone... as a phone. So what I want to know is, is there any way to increase the sound on for this? Do we have defected phones?
I have this problem as well. In call volume is maxed out but it doesn't sound very loud at all.
I have root access with CM 6.1.0 RC3.
My calls are loud and clear. Its the speaker phone thats low for me.
Does it happen with all calls incoming and out going?
Also are you on wifi?
How is your signal strength?
Same with me my speak phone volume is lower than I would like it, but head set speaker loud and clear

Yes, it's all of the calls that I make and receive. I'm never on wifi and my signal strength during the calls are all good. It may be just me also, but the G2 mic may be quiet also because when I call my cousin he sounds like he's whispering to me but when I call someone else their sound is just quiet, but enough to hear it with a small bit of background noise. I haven't asked him how the sound was when I called him since it's something I just noticed.
Mine's a little soft as well. It kinda sucks that one of the few flaws with this phone is it's use as a phone, lol.

You sure the phone volume is up? Also have you called Tmobile about this?
I have had mine for a little over a month and it is loud and clear, I have no issues hearing anyone, and no one has issues hearing me... really good sound quality imo. I am on stock rom still. Speakerphone is very weak for me as well.
Yeah, in call phone volume is incredibly weak for me. Going to try to boot into stock and see what happens. Is there an app to make the volume louder? Or some way we can change it?
EDIT: Okay. Turns out that I am an idiot. Phone is still new for me so I left the default protective screen on. As soon as I took that off, phone calls were a lot more clear. Just ordered a proper screen protector so I just have to be careful until then haha. Don't know if this will help out anyone but hey, figured I let you guys know.
You know, the real problem with the G2 is HTC quality control on those. I'm on my second G2...the call volume is way lower than my first one...
also the keyboard is a LOT better on the second one, I didn't care at all about the keyboard on my first G2, as the keys were very recessed and didn't have a real "feedback", so I never used it. Made me think the whole keyboard thing about the phone was useless, now I'm in love with it.
My problem is the hinge on the second G2 is much looser than the first one.
If you bought yours recently, just exchange it.

I'm positive the phone volume up. I haven't called T-Mobile yet because I haven't had time.
Ditto on the in call volume, would like to boost.
Anyone try this app Louder Volume Hack v4.1?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.AutoMod
I came from an HTC Aria and had the same in call sound trouble, then I tried Louder Volume Hack v3.6 but no luck, did not work.
Instead after some other searching I found a XDA forum that suggested turning on the TTY for the Hearing Impaired option in the Aria and waa-laa ---it worked. Apparently though, this TTY / Hearing Imparied option does not exist in the SOUND settings for the Z.
So, still looking for idea on the in call volume boost.

Theres an app called DSP Manager on CM 6.1.1 that i used to up the voume a whole lot. It comes already installed when you install that rom.
My speaker works great except during a call. I can't hear a thing from it when on a call however. It must be a software issue, then. I started a thread a bit back, but with no luck. I hope we can find a fix.
my in ear sound isnt that loud either.
Ok...regarding the app called DSP Manager on CM 6.1.1, I checked into this, but is appears it only helps on the "media" volume but NOT the phone speaker or in call volume for when the phone is to my ear during a call.
Can you advise, is DSP Manager helping for this in call volume?
Ok...
I found 3 different versions of DSP manager and frankly am afraid to install w/o having a little more dialog with some of you that may be wiser than me.
The three files are attached and as listed are:
DSPManager120210_ALL.zip
DSPManager_080910.apk
DSPManager_100810.zip
The DSPManager120210_ALL.zip file came from this link and appears to the the latest
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_DSPManager
The APK file came from this XDA link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750765
Anyway, after looking at the DSPManager_100810.zip file in unzipped mode, the file structure is different than the other zip file, which makes me a little nervous to flash uisng ROM Manager of Clockworkmod.
Meanwhile, I may install the APK file because I can easily uninstall if there is no improvement in the IN CALL VOLUME.
Any insights are welcomed.
Well I dove in and thank goodness for NAND backups...
Here is the deal (as of 12/31/10 4:05 PM EST):
- DSPManager120210_ALL.zip DID NOT FLASH
- DSPManager_080910.apk INSTALLED BUT NO CHANGE ON MY DESIRE Z A7275
- DSPManager_100810.zip FLASHED BUT NO EAR PEICE SOUND NOR SPEAKER SOUND
Now as of 12/31/10 4:11 PM EST in an restoring from my 12/31/10 10:00 AM EST NAND backup.
Gosh I hate doing this trial and error stuff, talk about a heart attack.
Will update after I complete my full restore and hope all is back in fully operational order.

So an app you downloaded causes a problem and you blame the phone?
Can you try something?
Mute volume and open twitter or Facebook. Pull the screen down in order to refresh and stick the speaker to your ear. Do you hear that crackling sound?
Hey I used to have this issue too... was really effed up at times it would crackle away like a peanut in the fire after a message tone.
I turned off "quiet ring on pickup" and "pocket mode" in the audio settings.
Then restarted the phone. One of the two caused issues I guess. Neither I see as a feature I must have so that was that.. no more crack!
haha can i suggest something
if the phone is laid down on some surface, raise the phone and try again
if the speaker is covered it makes crazy sounds, guess because of micro holes
ok so the fiss i got through me head phones annoyed me so i turned of beats just used DPS manager and the hiss is almost gone, can't be heard on songs with "quite" bits and only just hearable when volume is right up.
beats seems to make the hiss a lot worse.
Had this once. Restarted and it was gone

I had this issue. Do any of you have Volume+ installed? I had the 'volume level' set to +20 for the speaker within the app, and upon turning this off it seems to have stopped the popping.
i had this problem for about a day or so.
make sure in the sound settings, that any music effects are turned off, and when you turn on your phone, that no headphones are plugged in. then, when the phone is on, plug in headphones / use any dsp or music effects. for some reason i would get snap / crackles etc. if the headphones were in when i started the phone.
hope that helps!

I have the same problem, but with HTC Desire X and I don't know how to fix this. Problem occurs when screen goes off. I have the latest officialy JB update 4.1.1...Two times I reset the phone to factory settings, tried with clean system without any other installed apps, but audio pop/click/drop/jump randomly occurs and listening music is irritating... I contacted HTC support but no answer... HTC Wildfire, which I had, played music without problem...
The problem lies with beats...beats adjusts sound settings throughout the system, so when there is an extra sound, it cannot be converted to beats mode and so causes these weird sounds..try playing a game while listening to music with beats on, you'll get my point...one solution is to turn off volume completely (put it to silent) before starting music playback...hope that helps

Need some advice or trouble shooting tips.
Lately, my DHD is experiencing a sharp popping sound when I wake the device, use an app, or receive messages via Whatsapp or Line.
Presenting I am on JB and had been on AOSP for a long while. The popping sound only started recently after a period of testing Sense 3.6 and Sense 4 ROM's. Going back to AOSP, I noticed the sound right away. Even with all touch options disabled, the sound remains. It's coming from the rear speaker and even if the device is on mute, the sound can be heard.
As well, with online messaging, if I put my ear on the speaker, you can heard a slight hiss and it gradually gets louder until the pop sound cracks.
This problem doesn't happen with the new Sense ROM's I tested. What I have done was tested different AOSP and JB ROM's with the same result.
My next plan is to download a stock version on GB (ARHD is the choice I selected) and test the issue there. However, I am starting to think that I should return straight back to unrooted stock ROM, but I am not sure if that is really necessary.
My question is,,,, has anyone experienced this sound issue and if so, are there any suggestions or tips? As well, could someone experienced actually offer an explanation for the sound. Is my device on its' last legs?
I am thinking it might be kernel or radio related. I really don't know and hope someone can shed some light on this subject.

I highly doubt that it's software related. I've not seen anyone report any such kind of behavior and neither have I experienced it with either Sense or AOSP roms. The fact that the pop sound does not happen when you're on Sense roms is a bit strange, however I think it maybe explainable by the fact AOSP versions generally have boosted volume levels for better sound.
Personally, I think that you should get the speaker module replaced before it breaks down completely (which I believe is a very real possibility given the nature of the problem you've stated).
Just tested ARHD and when I make a call, there is a slight tick or crackle sound coming from the front ear piece. The sound is faint, but when put the phone to my ear and press the call button, I can clearly hear it.
I'm going to test the original radio and see if that sound remains. If it does, it seems the previous post above just might be my issue and I really hope not.

Is anyone having a weird issue with the stock music player & stock earphones(on a non rooted M9),where the sound level starts going down by itself, then goes up a tiny bit after awhile?
I thought it might of been caused by an issue with Greenify installed, but after uninstalling it & rebooting the phone, the issue is still there.
I dont have any aftermarket earphones to test with,so im not sure if they are the issue or not?

That is weird. I've noticed a similar behavior when I play music using the Shuttle+ application. I thought it was some trick of my ears, as the volume only goes lower for a few seconds and by the time I reach to adjust the volume, it's already back. It's maybe a few decibels - noticeable without being a huge deal.
As for solutions, I have no idea. Maybe there's something installed that is doing strange things. I've got a lot of applications, maybe time to trim them down and see if uninstalling one of them makes a difference.

By design, playback volume "dims" momentarily when you receive a notification. Other than that, I don't experience any arbitrary lowering of volume.
I listen to audibooks when im ready for sleep, and my phone is on Airplane mode and not plugged into the charger,so that rules out notifications

Huh - I didn't know that. I think I need to pay attention to see if it happens around notifications only or other times.

Many others (including myself) have noticed and posted about this issue here (though not enough in my opinion). It's not restricted to notifications and ringtones either, it happens with *all* sounds on the phone.
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it. Different sound drivers, updated firmware, build.prop settings... Nothing seems to get rid of this "speaker protection" crap. I am still hopeful to someday see a mod or firmware update that addresses it though, because after trying all those different things, I've run out of ideas.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've also noticed that, it sounds fine when I preview notifications and ringtones, but when the phone actually rings it is a lot more quiet and muted. It does appear that the top speaker is not being used for ringtones. I'll try to call htc, let's see what they say.
Called HTC, spoke with a girl who sounded like she was following some sort of flowchart. Needless to say she couldn't help and concluded that it was a defective hardware. I tried to explain that others are having the same issue and it appears to be a bug, but I don't think she understood. They are sending me a new phone. I'm sure the new phone will have the same issue. Maybe if more people call HTC with this issue, they will figure it out.

OH, so they know about it? This is a technical and engineering design fu**-up. My notifications are half the volume of the M8. If that is their answer, then I will probably return my phone.
Any solutions yet?
On mine it rings from the bottom speaker for about 3 rings, quiet, then ramps up and uses the top speaker too. With V4a on now once the top speaker kicks in it's very loud. It gives me a chance to answer it before it blasts me out.
I just bought a new htc 10 and quickly noticed this annoying sound fading in issue, searched online and this seems to be the only place talked about it with no solution, does everybody else really okay with this??
I guess at least it sounded fine when using headphone, but with this speaker fading crap everything sound like its echoing right now. This NEEDS to get solved.
Any solution ?
I came here to search for any ways to turn this "feature" off (and that's what it is, despite how nobody asked for it or wanted it). Looks like nobody has found any solutions. But here's my theory anyway:
The "fading in" volume effect must be a function of the Boom Sound software. It's a noise gate. And it sucks. For instance, try listening to any music that has any hard hits around any silence (a good example is "Brain Stew" by Green Day). It's really annoying.
I wish somebody could figure out how to disable the Boom Sound software altogether.
According to Google, https://www.google.com/search?newwi...0i22i30k1j33i22i29i30k1j33i21k1.0.leWX0kmgR6I it's a known Feature of Android 5, and many people complain about it, but there is no way to disable it.
Some people can workaround the issue, on some rom, with some apps or players; there is no universal solution.
In the best case, some chat app will not bell if they are already full screen; and this is an issue for me because if I have my phone plugged, and display timeout is 1h, then, it won't bell for incoming messages, and if I am >1m from it, I won't know people are talking to me. That's why I try to always make all apps always bell. But, if I am listening to music, the permanent bell that comes with intense chat may turn the music off all the time.
I not sure if I shall downgrade my phone to Android 4, 2.2, or 1.8 ...
.. arg, I am stupid, those versions have never been ported for my most recent phone.
