I have a rooted S III with JB. Lately, after a few songs, Google Music switches from playing out of my headphones to playing out of the speaker. It never does this in the middle of a song, it always happens between songs (listening to song in my headphones, song ends, next song plays out of speakers).
Does anyone else have this problem and/or does anyone know a solution?
I've had this happen also, are you on stock rom or a custom rom with mods?

I'm using the Root66 version of the stock JB rom, I think everything is stock, it's just rooted.
Never had it happen when just stock ROM without any mods. That's weird though. Why not use the stock music player? Its a whole bunch better.

That sucks. I'm not sure how that all works, hopefully someone can give you helpful advice.

I have an unrooted GS3, and I get the same issue showing up. My other GS3 has a similar issue, in that a song will be playing, and after the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th song, the whole process seems to stall out, and I have to go to the App manager, and close out the app completely. This is a huge annoyance.
Funning, the two issues revolve around the Google Music player, which I love. I use it on my other phones (GS2, G2X, MT4G), and have no issues. Just my GS3s.
i had this problem as well with the output switching to the speakers every other song when my headphones were plugged in while using google play. i am on an unrooted GS3. it only started happening on monday after i got a device upgrade notice.
i read in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989081&page=2 (for a diff carrier i know, but it worked) to try going to application manager and uninstalling google play updates. i have not had the speaker problem since. i think there is just a buggy update or something.
hopefully this helps some of you until they can update the update.

Running stock, with installed music player. Everything works fine when using just the phone. It works when I run a line-out to my car stereo. When I use earbuds, multiple ones now, I will eventually encounter this problem.
It may take more than an hour but, eventually, the player starts skipping around. It will play 1-5 seconds of anything and then repeat or skip. Also, I only use earbuds (one, really) is when I ride my bike. The ride with the handset in the front pocket of my shorts. At first, I thought there might be an issue with the contacts but this will occur even if I'm standing still.
I've read some threads in other folders but have not found the solution. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hard to say what might be causing this. I don't use the stock player -- can it be set to skip forwards or backwards when the hardware volume buttons are pressed? Could these or some other button be pressed while you are riding? Is something touching the Dpad while you are riding?
On some audio players, it can be made to automatically pause if the jack is removed -- does the stock player do this?
No buttons pushed and the phone is locked.
It seems that if the earbuds connecter spins at all in the jack, which will always happen to some degree, the player begins to skip. Is this something I can fix?
If you can reproduce it by spinning the plug then it sounds like a hardware problem. If using a different pair of headphones doesn't fix it then it is your phone....
If it might be software, have you tried using the new Music beta media player instead?

Yeah, three different sets of earbuds and upgraded to the new Music beta media player. I guess I need to call T-Mobile (ugh).

I've asked this question before but there were no replies.... I hope this time I'll get some pointers and re-phrase my question better.
I'm using the GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1
Sometimes my music stops playing when switching apps or pressing the home button to return to the home screen, it doesn't happen all the time, but very troublesome when it does. It happens usually just right after unlocking the phone from sleep. I'm using the stock music player
I've noticed that this issued happened to Android phones as well, I tried to update the stock music app, and switched kernels. I don't know what else I can do. I don't recall encountering this problem back in 4.0.4.
Any help would be appreciated

Give us a bit more info:
1. What music app are you using? If it's an app that can both play local media files and stream, which are you doing?
2. Are you playing your music through headphones, the internal speaker, or Bluetooth?
3. If headphones, have you tried other headphones? If Bluetooth, how far away are the devices?
4. Which ROM and Kernel are you using?

I said I'm using the stock music player, Play Music.
I'm playing music through headphones.
I am sure that this problem is not because of the headphones
I'm using the stock 4.1.1 ROM JRO03C. This problem happend on both the stock kernel and Franco Milestone 5
Are you running any other memory hungry apps? Sounds like your music player is getting killed because the memory is needed for something else.
I've had this happen in two instances, so hopefully my personal experience will help you.
The first time, it ended up being a faulty cord in my Nokia Purity HD headphones, I bought a new cord and that fixed my issues.
The second time it was because I was attempting to play music, that I had downloaded in Spotify, but since I was in a crappy coverage area, it would pause the music every time I lost a data connection, even though the music was stored locally. Switching Spotify to offline mode fixed it, so you might try switching to offline only mode in Play Music.
Even if you don't think it's your headphones (for example, you tried them on a PC and they worked), you have to remember that phones have many more contacts inside the headphone jack, used for the media controls in headsets (headphones with buttons and mics), so if there is a short in your headphones that makes the phone think you're pressing the "Play/Pause" button, it wouldn't show in your PC, because most if not all PCs lack this functionality.
It seems I'm having a ton of problems lately....
At first I only experienced this in Zombies, Run! but I'm beginning to think it's something else...
Originally, I was out on a walk and had Zombies, Run! going. All of a sudden the music stopped coming out of the earbuds I had on and went out of the speaker when the in app voice announced I had picked up an item. This was the only time I had experienced the issue at first.
Lately I have been playing Angry Birds Star Wars and have had the audio for it turned off... I decided to listen to music. Plugged in my earbuds and went back to playing... When the second song begins playing, the audio switched from my earbuds to my speaker and I can not figure out why.
I've tried googling, and searching on XDA for advise on this issue but I am coming up empty. Has anyone heard of this happening?
EDIT: I should add that after unplugging/ replugging in my earbuds I don't have the problem again... Same for pausing and playing music.. When I do either of those the music goes through my earbuds again. No idea why
Edit again: With the latest Google Play Music app I loaded a playlist without anything else open. Played the song, fast forwarded to close to the end and let it finish.. The next song played over the speaker... This is beyond frustrating..
EDIT Nov-14: After a complete factory restore to an un rooted state, I have not had the problem... I've rooted and flashed a deodexed rom and some tweaks I've had and no problem... After flashing a new feature.xml with a load of tweaks I've started having this happening again. Once in Google Play Music and have not been able to get it to happen again since then, and a few times in Zombies, Run! Not once while in Angry Birds SW though...
Another edit: Now I am getting this bug every single time with each of the mentioned scenarious... The only difference with my ROM is a 4-in-1 reboot mod.... Guess I'll remove some of my mods and see what happens with the audio.. I've tested out an app called SoundAbout as suggested by someone on AndroidCentral.com, but no success.. :\
UPDATE Nov-14: Stock android.policy.jar and feature.xml still producing the issue. Problem does NOT lie with those files.
You know I had this happen last night while I was listening to music in my car. The music just all of a sudden stopped coming through my cars speakers and was coming from the phone. I didn't really have time to see what was going on though. I have my car radio connected to the phone with the 3.5mm line out jack.
We're you using the latest update to Google Play Music? I don't recall having issues like this on the last version or on ICS at all.
Hmmm

I did a complete factory restore.. Wiped everything installed an unrooted jellybean and got my device back to "Normal" state.. So far I have not been able to replicate the issue after rerooting and flashing a deodex'd rom
Okay.... I recently flashed an updated feature.xml with a lot of new tweaks opened up... It occured to me that it could have some sound options that may have caused the problem I am having... So I went back to test if it would happen since I flashed it...
It has... I can get it to happen ONCE... then not again until a reboot..
I was going to check if it really is the feature.xml I'm going to flash a stock copy of it and see how things go, but now I can't get it to happen again... I should be happy about this, but I really want to solve this...
We can't be the only ones who has had this issue before.
Now I am getting this bug every single time with each of the mentioned scenarious... The only difference with my ROM is a 4-in-1 reboot mod.
Factory reset again, "Normal" state for the phone, no root.. Still happening.. I quit.. Going to get a new phone from Sprint.
Flashed CM10 and have not experienced this bug once.. Something must be messed up with touchwiz or something.
I've made some progress with this problem, but nothing that really helps... I've flashed an odex'd copy of LJ7 and I am still having this problem... However if my earphones are plugged in when the phone boots up, I don't have the bug at all... If I unplug and replug them in, then it appears...
I've called Sprint for a replacement device.. I was told they would mail me a new phone and was being transferred to someone in the department who would send it out. That person told me "oh, we can't send you one. You will need to go to the Sprint store who issued you the replacement originally." That Sprint store is 20 miles away.. So I drove out there to just get it taken care of. The guy I spoke to there told me "Oh, we can only give one replacement. You need to call Samsung to get it replaced." Wasted trip...
I called Samsung, and they told me they can not give me a replacement either! But they will allow me to mail my phone to them for repairs. They explained the process and that I would have to pay to ship it. Isn't it nice that I have to pay for a product that is under warranty?
Two Samsung Galaxy S IIIs... Different problems on each.
I'm experiencing the same issue on a stock Rogers SGH-i747M.
Haven't tried using a different audio player yet, but using Google Play Music, every other song plays through the speaker, even when headphones are plugged in. Is extremely annoying when on the train commuting to and from work.
As far as I can tell, the problem started when I updated to Jelly Bean a couple of weeks ago.
Anyone have any ideas?
Tons of folks are having this issue and most seem to center around the new google play app that came down.
It's not hardware as far as anyone can tell, it's a glitch in the matrix somewhere.
After downgrading Google Music to a previous version (one without those obnoxious instant mixes) I have yet to have the proplem present itself with that app.. However I have had the same problem using Zombies Run! which utilizes Samsung's media player.
I think it's somehow connected to TouchWiz. On CM10 I did not face any of these issues at all. Although that is just my guess for now.

Great, thanks! I'll try to find an old version of Google Play Music to sideload.
If it's a system app for you, just go to the play store and choose uninstall. It will only uninstall the updates and leave the version that came with your device."

100% stock/not rooted/completely fresh VZ GSIII phone that's a week old and am seeing the same exact behavior. So far it has only happened with Google Music. I'll try downgrading as well to see if this persists.

Hi guys. I'm using a stock unrooted One X. It has been running jelly bean since december but a bug came up since a few weeks ago. When I play a song on the stock music player, it would play for less than 10 seconds then it would fast forward or skip to the next song and the bug would happen all over again. This has gotten to the point where its impossible for me to listen to music without feeling very annoyed. This problem doesn't seem to occur when I play the music through the speaker so I'm guessing Beats Audio is causing this. Just a guess though. Anyway I've tried a bunch of things to solve the problem but nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried to clear data of music app ?
Yes I did. I also installed Poweramp and the problem happens there too.
The weird thing about this bug is that it doesn't happen every time. I was listening to music for about 2 hours today and everything was fine. But I'm sure it will happen again.

Well, the only thing that's getting in my mind is to make factory reset.
did you try listening to music with beats audio turned off? that may help narrow down the problem...
Seriously, read this post before replying. I will not repeat myself.
I'm currently running CM10.1 RC4. That said, this issue has occurred on other builds of CM10.1 and other ROMs altogether.
This issue only occurs when I'm using the 3.5mm headphone jack.
There are no regular intervals. The music will pause randomly. Yes, pause. Not skip. Not stop streaming. Pause.
This happens in multiple music apps. Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, PowerAmp, etc...
This happens with different headphones. It's happened on my SkullCandys as well as the stock headset (with volume/pause controls) for SGS3.
If I install a new ROM or build, I always do a full wipe. You know what I mean, so do not ask.
Can't think of anything else that's relevant. I really need help on this one. I listen to music daily at work and having to reach over and hit play every now and again is starting to drive me insane.
From what I gather, this seems to be a widespread issue only for some, and not device specific. Some people saying it could be a bug in Android OS, while others blaming it on certain background apps running while listening to music. I'm gonna give it a try while running the current ROM I'm running. Also if the plug moves just enough to barely disconnect, it will cause music to pause.

Maybe the headphone jack in the phone is bad, causing the music to pause like its being unplugged at random times.
