Hi,
I always power off my phone at night and yesterday morning it booted to recovery so I thought that I must had pressed the vol key but it was frozen, removed/replaced the battery, booted into recovery again, still frozen.
Pressing the volume keys won't change the selection, pressing power will not make the device do anything. I believe that it is somewhat working because HBOOT will change to HBOOT USB PLUG when plugging it.I can also see it looking for "P98IMG" for a little moment.
If I connect it to my PC, it will be detected as "Android 1.0". I did install the drivers as specified at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737728 I have Androik SDK installed & working (I am a developer).
The phone is detected by fastboot as :
HT12NTZ00637 fastboot
but I was not able to do anything with it.
Code:
fastboot reboot
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.000s
The phone doesnt do anything
Code:
fastboot -w
erasing 'userdata'...
FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
finished. total time: 0.000s
I've discovered Ace Think Tank post while searching the forums : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1824379
I was running ViperDHD1.1.0 if it makes any difference.
Thanks for helping me out.

Tried to put PD98IMG.zip from this post on my SD : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20203105&postcount=5
It looks like the phone is trying to install it however once the "blue loading bar" finishes, I see all the folder such as bootloader, boot, recovery, system, ... but it has been displaying this for 4 hours now. I thought it could take a while but I really doubt that this is every gonna finish.
Any help?

well, it seems that you failed to read...why being S-OFF you flashed a RUU? was that RUU froyo? Sounds like you might have messed the bootloader.

First, I'm going to thank you for being the only person to try to answer but it seems that you did failed to read too as the phone was stuck in HBOOT before I tried this out. If I remove the SD card, the phone will act the same as described earlier as the install does nothing.
Any other suggestions?

Why not flashing a rom from recovery? If your phone is not flashing anything in fastboot or hboot, then might be a hardware issue.

Exactly, pressing vol up / vol up / power buttons won't make the selection change. The display will change from HBOOT to HBOOT USB PLUGwhen plugging/removing USB cable tho so it's not completely frozen...
In the mean time, I have been trying to do a couple things, like fastboot update bleh.zip but it'll give
Code:
archive does not contain 'android-info.txt'
archive does not contain 'android-product.txt'
error: update package has no android-info.txt or android-product.txt
I thought that I could try flashing with a RUU so I got this file :
http://goo.im/ruu/RUU_Ace_Sense30_S...60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe
but it doesn't work. If I remove/replace the battery from the phone and plug it in the USB, my PC will not find any drivers for my phone and it'll be detected as "Android Phone", trying to run the RUU will fail because it will not recognize the phone. If power it up before trying the RUU, it will say that my battery is less than 30% even if the green led (fully charged) was on.
Any ideas or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?
Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me out.
Found the Telus image T : http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_194001_signed.exe
extracted recovery.img as another post points out but no success so far, after typing this command :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
my cpu stays at 100%, and even after 2 hours and got no feedback whatsoever.
trying to update using fastboot update telus.zip will result in :
Code:

Yes, all the weird chars were outputted to console.
I also copied the zip to my SD, renamed it to PD98IMG.ZIP but it looks like doing the same at the other ROM I've tried earlier, the blue progress bar will complete, then when a "directory parsing" appears, it will stays there _forever_.
Hope these details can help you find a solution.

Have you (both) flash a froyo RUU or ENG S-OFF and you were running Gingerbread?
I was running ICS (ViperDHD 1.1.0) and I wasn't able to flash anything as it freezes as explained in previous posts.
What happens if you just try running the RUU in hboot? I mean, connecting your phone to the computer and running the exe.

Wow, quick reply.
I believe that I am S-OFF as it is displayed at the top of the screen : ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF. I don't really know about the superCID.
When looking for one of my previous posts to quote myself, I figured that I didn't explicitly said that when I plugged my phone turned off in my PC, I had no drivers for "Android Phone". If powered on, it will use the Google ADB drivers.

I have a really huge problem. I think my Desire bricked completely.
I don't really know if it was SLCD or a normal Desire, while unrooting due flashing PB99IMG.zip the phone turned black, stopped, done nothing and vibrated once.
Now it doesn't do anything anymore. When I plug it in and boot the phone, windows says 'Android 1.0' ... And nothing more.
Is there any solution out there or is it fully bricked?
Go for warranty.
Rubbish!
Read and follow this thread

In order to help you more you need to give a full account of what you were trying to do and how as well as relevant device info such as were you already rooted, did you try to s-off and anything else that maybe relevant.
Sent with Desire.
Wrong section!
Also as windows recognizer it, it's not bricked(probably wrong ruu and you are slcd bricked so it boots in fastboot, you just cant see it)
Just run the correct ruu through usb.
Also would you like to share which ruu you flashed?
I also don't know why people are running those pb99img.zip things for unrooting =.=
So, um, urm, I forgot to check for SLCD, I know.
I tried this one: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
I think this one was the wrong one.
After trying a lot out:
When I hit 'BACK'+'POWER' the windows device-manager says 'Android 1.0' - and then I have three options, I tried, with vol-down and hitting power.
1.) dunno
2.) reboot
3.) reboot to the bootloader
It is still black. I tried with the alpha-rev-pb99img - booting via VOL DOWN and POWER and hitting constantly POWER UP - it seems to do nothing.
fastboot doesn't respond, adb list also no devices...

Android 1.0 is ADB driver, download Android SDK from here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
This will also install ADB driver.
Nope it's the fastboot driver(not the same as adb)
To solve this just boot using vol-down and connect it to usb. Then run the newest ruu(would be 2.29.405 something) This should flash the newer bootloader with slcd support, and you are back up and running in no time.
Thanks for you help, but anyways, the phone isn't responding, normally.
It only says 'Android 1.0' - and nothing more.
ADB DEVICES doesn't list the phone and FASTBOOT DEVICES neither.

Have you tried using a card reader to put the correct 2.29.405.5 PB99IMG.zip on teh root of SD then boot to Hboot (Down+power)?
man in teh device manager on your computer the drivers of your phone are instaled??
Have you now downloaded the latest RUU as suggedyed?
Have you removed the previous PB99IMG.ZIP file from your SDCARD?
Have you gone in to HBOOT and then after some time -VOL once then POWER key to get the phone in to FASTBOOT then run the new RUU?
the thread that I linked you to advises on the very first post how to extract the ROM.ZIP file if you are unable to flash the RUU conventionally.

yep, alternatively I have a link to the PB99IMG.zip in my toolbox:

theoretically phone when you open or even see it , enter fastboot automatically ,you can revive it , is simply just have the drivers installed

So now download this PB99IMG.ZIP from this link, copy to your sdcard and -vol + power button, holding both for about 6 seconds.
Once you have overcome this little learning curve........
1. Make your sdcard in to a GOLD CARD.
2. Go to www.unrevoked.com and follow the Desire how to Root.
3. Go to www.alpharev.nl and download the .iso to get S-OFF.
then you will ask be done within a matter of 30 minutes

Try this.
Boot into the bootloader and make sure it says FASTBOOT in the middle highlighted in red.
Open command prompt and type
“fastboot oem enableqxdm 0″ without the quotation marks of course. That should resolve the sd card not being mountable.
Then follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258 to get root and true s-off if desired. Just skip the parts you have already done.
yeah thats the tutorial i was following
by the way great write up really easy to understand
okay i will do that but in order to get s-off i need the phone to turn on?? Right??
So if i root and can get into cwm recovery and get the sd card to mount I should be able to flash a rom correct???

Do you have fastboot.exe installed on your pc, if so after opening the cmd prompt navigate to where fastboot.exe is and then trt the command.
I don't know whether this is still an option now that you've unlocked the bootloader but it is worth a try. This is a link to a guide I wrote for easily getting s-off and rooting your phone and if you would like, flashing a new ROM. Since you had this crash without having ever tampered with the phone, you might be in a tough situation but go ahead and start from the beginning of the guide and see where it gets you. Good luck!

so i had a similar situation on my dinc. it would bootloop at the red droid snapdarogon processor screen and that is as far as it would go then just keep rebooting to that point. i did the htcdev website and got the bootloader unlocked. i got clockwork recovery installed and have a rom running on it now. but every app i try to open just force closes. the only thing i can do is text and make phone calls on it. the phone still says s-on but says unlocked on top. when i try to use onrevoked to gain root it fails and says "is your firmware to new?". anyone have any ideas on this? thanks. didn't mean to crowd someone elses post.

Did you wipe everything before flashing the rom? If not that may be the cause of your problem.
To gain true s-off you must first fastboot flash a froyo misc img, then downgrade to froyo with an ruu, and then use unrevoked 3.22. Follow this guide here skipping the steps you have already done. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258
Since you have clockwork you could flash superuser though clockwork to gain superuser and use unrevoked forever to gain s-off, if you so desire.
link to superuser: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
I'm guessing your ROM is gingerbread or ICS so you want to use Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
and unrevoked forever is here: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Similar Situation
I have a Dinc that is also unrooted and has never been tampered with. I did the recent software update and the phone has not started since then. It only gets to the white screen that says HTC Incredible. I have tried the solutions proposed in this thread. I don't mind rooting if i need to but I am having absolutely no luck. Any ideas?
EDIT: So after hours of messing with this stupid phone, I left the battery out for about 5 minutes and while putting it back in i accidentally turned the phone back on.... and magically it started up just fine. I'm not sure what fixed it... Weird.
Can you help me fix the boot loop...?

What is your phones current status?
S-on/off, hboot version, android version?
Download and place this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip on your sdcard, in no folders. Then boot to hboot and it should find the file and prompt to press vol up to update. That should get you back to stock and working.

Hi,
Thank you very much for responding to my question. I tried to do the steps above but it ended up with the same result still after updating and rebooting to the stock image you gave above.
I also now see something like ******Locked ****** in the boot loader screen.
phone current status
S-ON
hboot version -1.07.0000
android version - i cannot figure that out yet since i cant fully bootup the os. i think i had froyo
prior to the update i had hboot version as something like 0.92.0000
why can't i still boot to the stock image and it still keeps rebooting?
I really appreciate your help.

Hello!
I have an HTC Desire that is stuck in bootloop. Anytime i boot the phone up it only reaches the HTC Logo then either gets stuck at the logo or cycles through the boot to logo.
It is through Telus and is no longer under warrenty. What options have worked in order to fix this? Telus support was less then supportive.
I have seen quite a bit of information on this forum and i am unsure which method might be best for my scenario. Any help would pointing me in a direction would be greatly appreciated
Im not sure what information i should post, so if there is something that is needed please ask and i will provide!
Boot into hboot (turn the phone off, then turn it back on using volume down and power). Then post everything that it shows there here.
Have you done anything to the phone like flashing a custom recovery, root, roms, etc, or is everything stock?

Download the 2.3 RUU here. Then copy it to the root (not inside any folder) of your sd card. Also DONT rename it (leave it as PB99IMG.zip)
Boot the phone into hboot and it will search for the file. When it finds it, it will ask if you want to install. Press volume up to say yes, then after its finished press volume up again to reboot.

Also if eveything goes well with flashing the ruu, i would recommend s-offing the phone. It will be useful later if you run into other issues.

S-off allows you to write onto partitions that you normally are unable to. This could be useful for example if u needed to flash a recovery or upgrade radio. Its also quite easy to do with revolutionary so I don't any reason not to do it.

You don't have to do anything to load it. when you boot into hboot it will automatically look for it and tell you if it finds it. All u need to do is press volume up after it finds it.

Ok, i put the .zip file on the root of the sd card. Booted into hboot and it only provides me the 4 options. It doesnt seem to auto pick up the .zip file. I should be putting the .zip on the root correct? I dont unpackage it?

If you're sure that its not working then you can try running the exe ruu.

Ok well since this way isnt working you should try running the windows exe version of the ruu (a bit more of a pain)
First download these drivers and install them.
Then download the ruu. Boot the phone into hboot then go into fastboot, and once in fastboot connect the phone to your pc. Once its connected and the phone is recognized run the ruu. Make sure you have enough battery and dont interrupt the process or bad things will happen.
lol im dry, but my power looks like its going to go out soon

Ok, i downloaded the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe and ran it. It installed the drivers. I booted into hboot, selected Fastboot and connected the USB. At the top of Fastboot, it how has Fastboot USB. The Andriod 1.0 driver said it installed, however i cant see the device in My Computer.
Does this sound ok so far?
Q 2) Once the RUU downloads, do i execute the .exe on my computer, or do i move it to the sd card and execute it from there?
Sorry, just want to make sure i do this correct haha.

Sounds good. If you really want to make sure that the drivers are installed correctly and its recognized you can setup adb/fastboot. Then plug the phone in while in fastboot mode and type "fastboot devices" from a command prompt on your pc. If your phones serial number shows up then everything is good to go.
You run the exe from your computer, you dont move it to the sdcard.
Ran the RUU and i cant seem to get it to recognize the connection from usb to phone.

Also i forgot to ask, but what caused this problem in the first place?
Hi everybody. I've read the great compilation of problems/solutions but have not find mine
My desire bravo is rooted and s-off. It's got CM7 and was working fine until it run out of battery. When powered on again, the hboot window appears (Even if only power is pressed) and VOL buttons doesn't move the cursor nor the trackpad... (they were working fine before)
I've tried to connect it to the PC, and that works. ADB devices seems to find the phone (it replies SH13NPL06262 fastboot). I've then tried to reflash different hboot, recovery... doesn't work (it says FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
Using android flasher, the program does not complain, but stays working on it forever...
This is the window with details about what's inside were I the phone stays until battery is unplugged.
Could you help me bring it back to life?
Cheers
Try downloading a recovery.img of 4ext and booting it. To do this boot the phone into fastboot using power + back, then run:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Then once in recovery you can flash a ROM.
Sent using xda-developers app
Thanks, but it didn't work. It says
downloading 'boot.img'...
FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
finished. total time 0.005s
When I start with "back"+"power" the screen looks the same as when using just "power" or "vol-" and "power"... it appears the image I show in the first post... Is that fastboot?
P.D. Just in case it helped: the command "fastboot reboot" is accepted but nothing happens in the screen. "fastboot reboot-bootloader" is rejected as the other (FAILED (status malformed)...)

Have you tried taking the batter out, removing the SIM and SD cards, cleaning the contacts, and trying to boot it again? The symptoms are similar to what I've seen on my Desire, but doing that seemed to sort it out (at least, for a bit) but I didn't mess around with the HBOOT or anything.

No you don't need any other files. Its supposed to work with just the pb99img. It seems to be stuck though, since like I said before you usually get a prompt asking if you want to install.
My next suggestion would be to use the ruu from your PC. You can get it here: http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152

If any of you know any other thing to try, I 'll be happy, but I understand this is too weird and the phone might be internally damaged for some reason.
I thank you all for so many messages helping me with it. :good:
Dear all,
I have been looking around the forums and downloaded a few things and looked at various solutions, but I am stuck at the first hurdle.
I have been given an htc Desire Bravo that just will not boot. I do not know how it failed originally but I can only get it into the boot screens, either the fastboot/hboot logon ot the 5 buzzes and the htc logo lock. Also it takes about 30 minutes with the battery out after every failed boot attempt to restart the boot screen.
I have run adb but it cannot tell me a cid number, I have a micro sd card in it but it does not have the pb99diag.zip on it. When I put such a file on the sd card it does not find it. Communication via adb and the phone has varied success. I suspect it is drivers and what I read is an old adb bug where server is out of date.
I have never done this before this weekend so please be gentle with me!
If I can get it to work, even to use it like a wifi tablet without phone I would be happy. I am in the UK and if we have real success I would get it on tesco PAYG
I get the "cannot find pb99diag.zip etc" dialogue when going into hboot.

If u phone does not boot then u can NOT s-off, ur phone needs to be booted.. also if ur s-on and not rooted then all u can do is flash a ruu.
Did u try factory reset from bootloader menu? Try that first, u never know but chances r ul prob need to ruu a ruu.

Hi jmcclue,
Thanks for the comments. I can boot to the HBoot and Fastboot screens, thats how I could find the S-ON and version data. If I get it to reboot, I get either a white screen with just "htc" on it, or 5 buzzes and a screen with no life at all. I am hopeful to get it to S-OFF as I have had some communication through the usb to pc connection. I am not sure if I can do an RUU update as I don't seem to have a CID. I do not have a factory reset option on the HBOOT screen. I have tried clear storage but that has no effect. Perhaps I need the S-OFF first.
Cheers again,
A
Use the 2.3gb update ruu its wwe (world wide english) so dont worry bout cid. U can find it in bortaks troubleshooting guide in resources section and its naned 2.3.3 ruu. U will find it easy enough in google aswell. Search for "htc desire 2.3gb update" its a exe file so just boot ur phone into fastboot, plug in ur phone and run the ruu, hopefully it willvwork. Im a bit worried tho about the 5 vibrations u get, maybe a sign of hardware failure. But try that ruu anyway. And again u can not get s-off unless ur phone is fully working/booted.

Well that was a bit wierd
If anyone can see where I went wrong, feel free to say.
I could not seem to get the link between the phone and the pc so I removed the htc sync and restarted the pc. I could then connect to the phone in some way as abd gave a command error when I sent a fastboot oem readcid which it normally does. So leaving it in fastboot with usb I ran the wwe~.exe file and it all seemed to be doing installing. There were tens of installations going to the phone I guess each reaching 100%. Suddenly I had a web page popup in my browser s.rev2pub.com/ul_cb/player.html?a=19471543&context=c23573548&size=800x600&rt=popunder&ci=10&cb=[CACHEBUSTER] recommending I download latest drivers. The wwe ruu vanished and I have no continuing processes in Task manager that I can see.
So, should I have installed in hboot? Thankfully I can still get the phone to power on. What should happen after the exe file installs?
I am able to get some response from the phone as adb devices returns the phone device number. So I hope I can try again.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

Hey Adrian, I had the same problem as you did, hopefully I can be of help.
First, like everyone else is saying you will need S-OFF.
To do this head to this site on your PC revolutionary.io hit download for windows or Linux or whatever your pc is running, then you will need to fill out information about your device (see attached screenshot). Device, HBoot number, and serial number, (the serial number can be found behind the battery of your device). Once you have done that, click "Generate Key". it will give you a key, remember it or write it down.
Then, open the file that was downloaded, and extract the contents to your documents and Run the revolutionary( should look like the screenshot attached). Plug your device in (assuming you have the drivers) and it should ask you to enter the beta key we had before. Enter that and hit enter. it will then S-off your Desire and soon ask if you would like to install a custom recovery. hit Y and then enter, once that is finished, unplug your device and in HBoot go to "Recovery". Now you can flash a ROM of your choice.
Hopefully I made sense!
Best of luck

Thanks lilsafbig, that was a little too ambiguous to understand, but I have a few developments.
I am able to communicate to some degree with adb between phone and pc. Before I was unable to get anything back but now with the right syntax I have got back the CID as HTC_001 and the device number. But when I run revolutionary from the fastboot USB screen the revolutionary continues to wait for the device to show. Is it likely that USB degugging was off prior to the failure, is there a way to get it on. I suggest this as when I connect it to my pc it recognizes the device and shows in the device manager as an htc unspecified device (this is progress). As I cannot boot android it does not show as an additional drive in file manger. when I try some of the fastboot oem commands I get bad command errors, whilst fastboot getvars is ok. Could this be why I cannot get revolutionary to S-OFF!
Thanks

If you can still get to bootloader / fastboot screen, then you are rarely ever bricked.
1. Ignore anything and everything to do with revolutionary and fastboot for now. I'm afraid the first few posts while trying to be helpful have been misleading. Get your phone booting up into Android OS first, i.e. into a stock ROM using an RUU
2. Use the 2.3.3. GB RUU, nothing else, it doesn't need a goldcard or care about CID etc.
3. Download it from the bottom here, then use Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A, Point [7] to run it as a PB99IMG.zip from the root of your sdcard. That way you don't need to run it through USB or care about what drivers are installed.
Thank you Eddie, I will try that. I did try flash a PB99IMG.zip before with no success but I will try again.
I found it here Official Stock Sense Gingerbread_v1.2 GB-2.3.3_A2SD – http://androidba.se/J7 for desire (neophyte)
I hope it can work out ok. I guess I format the sd card to fat32 not ext4
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
A

That's a custom rom.
Here's the link for the 2.3.3 ruu.

That did not work because the file is not an RUU...it is a stock rooted custom ROM with A2SD (the clue is in the name). It is designed to flashed in recovery like any other ROM. Renaming it to PB99IMG.zip won't do anything.
Use the actual shipped roms RUU link provided.
Reformat your sdcard to a single FAT32 partition if necessary, then follow Method [7] of the guide, place only the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard (not in any folder)
