I have a really huge problem. I think my Desire bricked completely.
I don't really know if it was SLCD or a normal Desire, while unrooting due flashing PB99IMG.zip the phone turned black, stopped, done nothing and vibrated once.
Now it doesn't do anything anymore. When I plug it in and boot the phone, windows says 'Android 1.0' ... And nothing more.
Is there any solution out there or is it fully bricked?
Go for warranty.
Rubbish!
Read and follow this thread

In order to help you more you need to give a full account of what you were trying to do and how as well as relevant device info such as were you already rooted, did you try to s-off and anything else that maybe relevant.
Sent with Desire.
Wrong section!
Also as windows recognizer it, it's not bricked(probably wrong ruu and you are slcd bricked so it boots in fastboot, you just cant see it)
Just run the correct ruu through usb.
Also would you like to share which ruu you flashed?
I also don't know why people are running those pb99img.zip things for unrooting =.=
So, um, urm, I forgot to check for SLCD, I know.
I tried this one: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
I think this one was the wrong one.
After trying a lot out:
When I hit 'BACK'+'POWER' the windows device-manager says 'Android 1.0' - and then I have three options, I tried, with vol-down and hitting power.
1.) dunno
2.) reboot
3.) reboot to the bootloader
It is still black. I tried with the alpha-rev-pb99img - booting via VOL DOWN and POWER and hitting constantly POWER UP - it seems to do nothing.
fastboot doesn't respond, adb list also no devices...

That RUU is way too old. You should have ran the 2.29.405.5 one.

Android 1.0 is ADB driver, download Android SDK from here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
This will also install ADB driver.
Nope it's the fastboot driver(not the same as adb)
To solve this just boot using vol-down and connect it to usb. Then run the newest ruu(would be 2.29.405 something) This should flash the newer bootloader with slcd support, and you are back up and running in no time.
Thanks for you help, but anyways, the phone isn't responding, normally.
It only says 'Android 1.0' - and nothing more.
ADB DEVICES doesn't list the phone and FASTBOOT DEVICES neither.

Have you tried using a card reader to put the correct 2.29.405.5 PB99IMG.zip on teh root of SD then boot to Hboot (Down+power)?
man in teh device manager on your computer the drivers of your phone are instaled??
Have you now downloaded the latest RUU as suggedyed?
Have you removed the previous PB99IMG.ZIP file from your SDCARD?
Have you gone in to HBOOT and then after some time -VOL once then POWER key to get the phone in to FASTBOOT then run the new RUU?
the thread that I linked you to advises on the very first post how to extract the ROM.ZIP file if you are unable to flash the RUU conventionally.

yep, alternatively I have a link to the PB99IMG.zip in my toolbox:
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...oads-root-users-updated-18th-june-2011-a.html
theoretically phone when you open or even see it , enter fastboot automatically ,you can revive it , is simply just have the drivers installed
happened to me and I could restore it to life , no panic

So now download this PB99IMG.ZIP from this link, copy to your sdcard and -vol + power button, holding both for about 6 seconds.
Once you have overcome this little learning curve........
1. Make your sdcard in to a GOLD CARD.
2. Go to www.unrevoked.com and follow the Desire how to Root.
3. Go to www.alpharev.nl and download the .iso to get S-OFF.
then you will ask be done within a matter of 30 minutes

try this open android flasher conect your phone to usb cable verify the phone to be open and then select on android flasher hboot select the stock hboot wait 1 or 2 seconds and then open the Ruuand wait and your phone is back to life

Edited the entire first post to make it clear what the issue *was* and what the solution is:
ISSUE:
1. Desire screen not switching on at all even though phone switches on.
2. Phone boots but doesn't go beyond bootloader/recovery/fastboot
3. Can get into recovery even though nothing comes on screen (test: press volume down and power. Wait for 10 seconds. Press volume down. Press power. Phone should vibrate. Wait 20 seconds. Phone should now be in recovery mode.)
4. Can get into fastboot (back+power)
5. No goldcard
CAUSE of MY ISSUE:
I had Aura Sense7.9+AlphaRev S-Off. Cause::Ran a very old RUU just because I wanted to bring things back to stock. The RUU overwrote my HBOOT from 0.93 to god knows what. Turned out, the RUU was for amoled screens and not for SLCD screen. So even though the phone turned on, the screen never did.
SOLUTION:
1. Make sure you have HTC Sync drivers installed. Install HTC Sync and then just remove the application and not the drivers. I also installed the unrevoked hboot drivers. Do the same.
2. Get Android SDK http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip
3. Check that your phone is recognized in recovery and fastboot by your system once drivers are installed -- once you install the drivers, boot into recovery (point 3 of issue -- you should hear beeps in win7 signalling a device connection). Open android_sdk/tool directory in command line and type 'adb devices'. Your device should come up. Similarly take phone into fastboot, and then in command line type 'fastboot devices' your phone should come up.
4.Switch off phone after test. Next, take phone into recovery mode and create gold card. Follow http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/ or use the Gold Card Tool . The last part of the Gold Card Tool (Patch MMC) didn't work for me so I used the hex editor manually. Make sure you start with the SD Card that came with your phone. I tried 2 cards and it didn't work. Just the SD Card with the phone did!
5. After gold card is made, download 'RUU_Bravo_Froyo_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.13.707.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed' RUU from shipped-roms. This is the latest RUU that I could find for SLCD screen.
6. Run RUU and if your gold card is correct, you should sail right through. and be greeted by a working Desire.
Phew!
Thanks goes to:

I'm not able to get into recovery. I just get to the bootloader -- I know this just because i can feel it vibrate once. volume down/power doesn't do anything. fastboot works because i can see it using adk. Screen doesn't come on at all so can't see whats going on.

How do I make a goldcard at this stage? I can get into the adb shell but can't mount the sdcard in any way. mount /sdcard just throws up errors. Are all goldcards the same -- a goldcard made on one desire can run on another? (I might be wrong but I think not)...

When you plug in the phone to the comp is it still visible in the "hardware section" ??

And therein lies the mystery...i can't find it. i've gone through 100s of posts yesterday and tried flashing around 7 WWE and Asia roms, none of them work -- signatures just don't match!
i knew I should've created a goldcard!! since HBOOT has been overwritten and I can still erase system, data, and recovery using fastboot, should I just send it for service --- it is still under warranty... anyway of knowing if it's been HTCized again?
What software version was it on when you got it? This should be made clear before rooting to ALWAYS make a note of it so you can go back to stock if needed...without that you can try and send it to HTC but they may just turn around and say 'you rooted it, tough' and send it back
it was on 2.1 and upgraded it to 2.2 ota the day i got it.
i know.should've paid more attention and even created a goldcard for safe measure, but this is where I am at the moment
just wish things hadn't turned this bad...there's ought to be something else that I can do
http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip
http://www.shadowchild.nl/rom210.zip
Ok. step by step.
Download de android SDK from here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip
Unzip it to a place where you can easely find it back.
Download also http://www.shadowchild.nl/rom210.zip , no need to unzip this, just place it in the map "tools"in the unzipped file.
Open a command prompt and navigate to the map 'tools' from the unzipped file.
That is in "CMD".
1. get your microsd card out of the phone.
2. turn the phone onin FASTBOOT mode, press the "back"button (on the right-underside of your phone) and the power button at the same time..
3. Typ in je commandprompt:
code:
1 fastboot erase cache (enter)
2 fastboot oem rebootRUU (enter)
3 fastboot flash zip rom210.zip (enter)
maybe you get a HBOOT pre-update 'error', repeat immedeatly the last command.
when this is finnished (you got now HTC ROM 2.10, not rooted) - the progressbar is then full:
fastboot reboot
You should no have a clean HTC romand can put back your sd card
make sure that there is no more 'PB99IMG.zip' file on the sd-card.
If you go to "start" on the computer an d type "HTC" you will find the HTC sync and two seperate uninstall files.
Just uninstall htc sync and leave the driver.
You will need this otherwise the phone will not be detected in the hardwaresection.
I have had the same problem and a guy on a dutch forum showed me the way and it worked again.
So, plug in the phone, turn it on with "back" and "power" ( not the volume-buttons)
Press "start" on the computer and type "CMD".
navigate to the map "tools" by entering cd (name of the map where you placed it)
Good luck.

Any help is appreciated.
oh wow. so you cannot manipulate your power button at all? no tweaking or pushing in with something else (is the button still there or did it break off?
warning -- do not do this -- im just trying to be helpful but I am probably not.... dont do this on my account.
well im looking in TJWorld... please dont do this without a real dev taking a look at this
http://tjworld.net/wiki/Android/HTC/Vision/BootProcess#FastBootRestart (Chain Operating System down 1/4 of the way)
in so many words connect serial-usb-to control Hboot (need linux host)
screen /dev/ttyUSBO
press enter till you see "hboot"
and then basically I guess just like in GOTO language
gotofastboot
or
gotohboot
and then theres OEM Reboot Codes
-reboot=oem-1F Regular reboot
--reboot=oem-42 HBoot menu
--reboot=oem-74 In some indeterminate state, for all intents and purposes powered off or just plain dead
--reboot=oem-76 Wipe data and cache (factory reset) Amber and Green LEDs flash whilst it is doing it, then the device reboots
--reboot=oem-78 ??
I hope this helps at all..
The buttons there, you can press it as hard as you want but nothing. Just no response
I have this exact problem!! It's been sitting in my room collecting dust. If anyone can find a fix.. a cup of coffee on me!
My power button is also in perfect condition, I've compared it to another G2 and the button's "press feel" is exactly the same.
why dont you just remap the keyboard and map the camera button as power
^^ i thought the power button combo is not remappable....
and that Its only mapped within android not for the default system combos
Do you have CWM? If so, the phone should turn on when it is plugged into a power source.
^^ Do have CWM, problem is not the phone turning on... the problem is I have no usable power key to follow the guide to unroot and put a stock rom on so i can send it in for warranty.
Using keyboard I can turn on the screen so thats do-able... but restoring to stock + removing root is what I'm trying to ultimately achieve.
i think theres an app thts called quick boot maybe tht could help...
Could you not flash the zip file from within rom manager. By selecting install rom from SD Card, you avoid needing to use powerbutton to get into bootloader. Correct me if you cant do this.
I tried flashing from CWM and error... rom manager didn't reboot it to CWM to flash, so not sure what to do.
This is what I have tried --
PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip
on hex editor the version is 1.19.531.1, and it already was so i didn't need to change it. But when i try putting that zip through cwm it doesn't work.
I've tried adb reboot bootloader , but it doesn't scan for PC10IMG which i downloaded from the guides....

Which version CWM have you got on there? If its 3.0 I dont think you can flash a froyo rom with that. You would have to install an earlier version.
You can remap the power button with the button remapper app it cost 1.04$ it works fine for me even if you turn off your phone u can use camera button to turn it on, I got the app for free if u dnt want to spend but I cannot post the apk I'm using my phone right now just search it on google beansoft button remapper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11021708#post11021708
My posted app.. hope this helps
i don't think remapping keys will work. It's a hardcoded thing the power+volume key during boot. What i don't get is the fact that hboot doesn't find the file. did you rename it to PC10IMG.zip?
thats the only filename hboot understands as an update or new rom. (Be shure to follow the original guide)
edit: tried myselve.. it doesn't go to hboot does it.. you have to select with powerkey
how can we just make the phone crash? to leave no trace of root or anything of the sort.
Possible solution
Hi !
While I am still thinking about a solution how you could boot into hboot (by using adb reboot bootloader you boot into fastboot mode and not hboot mode) the following might be a solution.
I can not test it because I don't have windows but this is what might work:
1. You need windows and you need the USB drivers from HTC Sync (You can get that here http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=325&act=sd&cat=all
2. You need a Desire Z RUU:
You can get one from here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
Select any WWE I would probably use RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.22.405.1_Radio_12.26.60.1301_26.02.00.24_M2_release_151197_signed.exe
3. You need the G2 Stock ROM zip, i.e PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip
The procedure is the following:
1. Install the HTC Sync so that you have the USB Drivers installed
2. Start the RUU and let it do it's job until the Welcome Screen apears.
At this moment you should have a directory in C:\C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Local Settings\Temp\{some-CLSID}\{another-CLSID} that contains a file called rom.zip.
Delete this file and copy the PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip to the directory and rename it to rom.zip
3. Connect you phone to the USB and on the welcome screen check the checkbox and continue.
If I am right the RUU should update your phone using the G2 rom.
As said, I am blind driving cause I ain't got Windows but this might work.
have fun Guhl

Well there is an option if you do have the engineering hboot installed.
DO NOT TRY THIS BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECOVERY FROM THIS BRICK
1. boot the phone into fastboot mode by using
Code:
adb boot bootloader
2. use fastboot do completely erase the emmc
Code:
fastboot oem fdisk_emmc
After this the phone will be completely erased and will not even know that it is a phone anymore. You can send it in and have it replaced and no one will ever know how your phone got bricked like this
And again: There is no way to recover from this state !!!

Does
Code:
fastboot oem ?
show INFOfdisk_emmc ?
I can't flash cm7r2 hboot neither through pb99img.zip, nor through fastboot.
flashing pb99img causes a short blink of some message (can't even read it), while fastboot is waiting for device indefinitely. drivers are up-to-date, Device Manager shows present Android Composite ADB Interface while plugged in.
I don't know if it is odd but connecting a phone via USB while in recovery shows unknown ADB device in dev mgr but can't update its drivers...
current hboot 0.93.0001, PVT-1 S-OFF
EDIT:
had a problem with recognizing the Android Phone when booted normally - i've manually edited the android_winusb.inf and changed pid value to this corresponding to my device's and have chosen Android ADB Interface as the device's name but still adb shell does not see any device ...
EDIT2:
solution in post#14 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16956020&postcount=14 . thanks guys!

have you installed the required drivers on computer?
I think so, but could you point those required, just to be sure?
Try this: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
If that does not work (works for me on win7) - then try the official HTC drivers (by installing HTC Sync).
I've already used this driver. when the device is in fastboot mode, dev mgr recognizes it, installs drivers and everything seems fine, but when I reboot, it appears as Android Phone with no possibility to install the driver. strange :/
what is bothering me though is not the driver issue but impossibility to flash the PB99IMG through recovery. should I take some special steps to do so?? I put the PB99IMG-cm7r2.zip on sd, change the filename to PB99IMG.zip and try to flash it through recovery. I even tried PB99IMG-downgrade.zip but still no effect.

If your phone is branded you won't be able to flash hboot via PB99IMG.
AFAIK a so-called goldcard might help, but not sure here so you may want to check this out on the forums.
As for the driver, I installed mine by the age-proven method of installing HTC Sync app on the PC and then uninstalling it.

I recall unbranding before rooting but eg. Android Market still says ERA HTC Desire. does it mean my Desire is still branded?

U need the goldcard in the sdcard then
you are probably right, as I forgot that I bought a new one... can't I make a second GC ??
Sure. The goldcard is only sd card connected and it doesn't matter which system you are running.
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I've made my SD a GoldCard and now get "CID Incorrect! Update failed." or sth like that. I guess I need to instert my original GC?
Guy I had this problem,too.
I downloaded the PB99IMG_cm7r2.zip renamd it to PB99IMG.zip,put it on Sd card but it doesn't work.
Then I opened rootExplorer and saw there that the filme name was PB99IMG.zip.zip (on pc only PB99IMG.zip) so I renamed it via rootExplorer bootet into fastboot & it worked.
Maybe you have the same problem.
installing and uninstalling HTC Sync + making my SD a Gold Card did the trick! both PB99IMG.zip and fastboot methods work.
soooo freakin happy, will try Lee 3.3.3 R5 with dalvik2nand now!
Hi,
I searched a lot withouth luck.
After flashing a kernel my amoled Desire is stuck on the HTC logo.
It is s-off with latest hboot.
The problem is that the volume keys are broken..
So I cannot use power+volume down to enter fastboot or hboot..
From the pc with adb devices I cannot see the device.
Is there a way to recover my poor phone?
Or to enter hboot without
thank you very much for your attention
Use back+power to enter fastboot and select "bootloader"
Thank you very much!
It was so simple, but I didn't know this method, sorry.
After some little problems I manage to restore it. :victory:
I write down the difficulties I found, so if someone has the same issues, he could use that.
After entering fastboot adb could not see the device again.
Fastboot commander 1.51 could, but was unable to write a new rom from a zip.
So I write on the phone a nandroid backup (with fastboot commander).
It booted but was stuck on "Optimizing Applications".
From there adb coul see it.
So I rebooted into recovery with adb, flashed the same nandroid of before from the SD and it booted successfully.
Thank you again!
And thanks to all that keep this device alive and help who need it

I too searched for the thread of my problem but couldn't find it.
I was given this Desire and I switched it on, it booted directly to hboot. I thought may be I pressed the volume key unknowingly. But then I tried to reboot it via hboot, I found out that volume keys do not work. So I removed the battery and tried to switch it on again, and it did the same, booted to hboot directly.
It is s-off and does not have any recovery app installed.
What do i do. I really need some help.
P.S. Sorry for my english, and this is my first post/comment in here. I thought this thread somehow matches my problem.
Thanks

Heh guys,
You can enter hboot by holding down the back button then the power button together.
See abaaaabbbb63's reply above
Ps. Thank me if this helps.
But he can enter hboot, so I think the question was different, or I'm wrong?
When you are stuck on hboot, could you see the device with the command "adb devices"?
Have you installed the correct drivers on the pc?
If you haven't got a recovery I think it is not a problem, you can at least flash the original gingerbread ruu.
Have you tried fastboot commander?
Me noob

Umm... I'm a noob, the lowest one... Honestly I haven't done anything to this device coz I have no idea what to do. I tried googling hoping I would find some helpful infos to start with, but I didn't.
So can you please explain how do I get/do the above things??
The phone has been modified in any way by the previous owner?
First you need to connect the phone with the pc.
From hboot, if you see "fastboot" higlighted, press the power button one time to go into fastboot mode.
I cannot find my exact same drivers, but this should be just fine:
Code:
http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/fe66812c2a4bd7da49a109b357afe420/518cba12/5/6/0/4/1/4/adb_driver_htc.zip
Download also Fastboot:
Code:
http://d-h.st/OFs
Plug the phone in the pc, when it asks for drivers, give it manually the folder that is inside the adb_driver_htc.zip.
It should see now the device from the device manager.
Extract the Fastboot.zip folder in a folder you want. (Like C:\).
With the phone inserted in the pc, open cmd (using the search function over start) and navigate to the directory where you've extracted fastboot.
After type "adb devices" without quotes, and see if it lists a device .
Sorry for my bad guide, hope we could figure it out .
You must understand how to use adb and fastboot, that are the tools we use to interface ourselves with the phone, so if needed the internet is full of little and friendly guides
Dear all,
I have been looking around the forums and downloaded a few things and looked at various solutions, but I am stuck at the first hurdle.
I have been given an htc Desire Bravo that just will not boot. I do not know how it failed originally but I can only get it into the boot screens, either the fastboot/hboot logon ot the 5 buzzes and the htc logo lock. Also it takes about 30 minutes with the battery out after every failed boot attempt to restart the boot screen.
I have run adb but it cannot tell me a cid number, I have a micro sd card in it but it does not have the pb99diag.zip on it. When I put such a file on the sd card it does not find it. Communication via adb and the phone has varied success. I suspect it is drivers and what I read is an old adb bug where server is out of date.
I have never done this before this weekend so please be gentle with me!
If I can get it to work, even to use it like a wifi tablet without phone I would be happy. I am in the UK and if we have real success I would get it on tesco PAYG
I get the "cannot find pb99diag.zip etc" dialogue when going into hboot.

Thanks
Adrian
First make S-Off. I forgot how but if i think right, you must it do via revolutionary, If it success, then download 4ext recovery.IMG and flash it via fastboot and reboot in bootloader in your recovery

If u phone does not boot then u can NOT s-off, ur phone needs to be booted.. also if ur s-on and not rooted then all u can do is flash a ruu.
Did u try factory reset from bootloader menu? Try that first, u never know but chances r ul prob need to ruu a ruu.

Hi jmcclue,
Thanks for the comments. I can boot to the HBoot and Fastboot screens, thats how I could find the S-ON and version data. If I get it to reboot, I get either a white screen with just "htc" on it, or 5 buzzes and a screen with no life at all. I am hopeful to get it to S-OFF as I have had some communication through the usb to pc connection. I am not sure if I can do an RUU update as I don't seem to have a CID. I do not have a factory reset option on the HBOOT screen. I have tried clear storage but that has no effect. Perhaps I need the S-OFF first.
Cheers again,
A
Use the 2.3gb update ruu its wwe (world wide english) so dont worry bout cid. U can find it in bortaks troubleshooting guide in resources section and its naned 2.3.3 ruu. U will find it easy enough in google aswell. Search for "htc desire 2.3gb update" its a exe file so just boot ur phone into fastboot, plug in ur phone and run the ruu, hopefully it willvwork. Im a bit worried tho about the 5 vibrations u get, maybe a sign of hardware failure. But try that ruu anyway. And again u can not get s-off unless ur phone is fully working/booted.

Well that was a bit wierd
If anyone can see where I went wrong, feel free to say.
I could not seem to get the link between the phone and the pc so I removed the htc sync and restarted the pc. I could then connect to the phone in some way as abd gave a command error when I sent a fastboot oem readcid which it normally does. So leaving it in fastboot with usb I ran the wwe~.exe file and it all seemed to be doing installing. There were tens of installations going to the phone I guess each reaching 100%. Suddenly I had a web page popup in my browser s.rev2pub.com/ul_cb/player.html?a=19471543&context=c23573548&size=800x600&rt=popunder&ci=10&cb=[CACHEBUSTER] recommending I download latest drivers. The wwe ruu vanished and I have no continuing processes in Task manager that I can see.
So, should I have installed in hboot? Thankfully I can still get the phone to power on. What should happen after the exe file installs?
I am able to get some response from the phone as adb devices returns the phone device number. So I hope I can try again.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

Hey Adrian, I had the same problem as you did, hopefully I can be of help.
First, like everyone else is saying you will need S-OFF.
To do this head to this site on your PC revolutionary.io hit download for windows or Linux or whatever your pc is running, then you will need to fill out information about your device (see attached screenshot). Device, HBoot number, and serial number, (the serial number can be found behind the battery of your device). Once you have done that, click "Generate Key". it will give you a key, remember it or write it down.
Then, open the file that was downloaded, and extract the contents to your documents and Run the revolutionary( should look like the screenshot attached). Plug your device in (assuming you have the drivers) and it should ask you to enter the beta key we had before. Enter that and hit enter. it will then S-off your Desire and soon ask if you would like to install a custom recovery. hit Y and then enter, once that is finished, unplug your device and in HBoot go to "Recovery". Now you can flash a ROM of your choice.
Hopefully I made sense!
Best of luck

Can I confirm that I can do this from the HBOOT screen or the fastboot screen? Also where jmmclue said if I can't boot then I can't S-Off, does that mean boot to the HBOOT screen or into Android? Then if I want to load say WWE, do I put that on a microSD to get it to recover?

Thanks lilsafbig, that was a little too ambiguous to understand, but I have a few developments.
I am able to communicate to some degree with adb between phone and pc. Before I was unable to get anything back but now with the right syntax I have got back the CID as HTC_001 and the device number. But when I run revolutionary from the fastboot USB screen the revolutionary continues to wait for the device to show. Is it likely that USB degugging was off prior to the failure, is there a way to get it on. I suggest this as when I connect it to my pc it recognizes the device and shows in the device manager as an htc unspecified device (this is progress). As I cannot boot android it does not show as an additional drive in file manger. when I try some of the fastboot oem commands I get bad command errors, whilst fastboot getvars is ok. Could this be why I cannot get revolutionary to S-OFF!
Thanks

If you can still get to bootloader / fastboot screen, then you are rarely ever bricked.
1. Ignore anything and everything to do with revolutionary and fastboot for now. I'm afraid the first few posts while trying to be helpful have been misleading. Get your phone booting up into Android OS first, i.e. into a stock ROM using an RUU
2. Use the 2.3.3. GB RUU, nothing else, it doesn't need a goldcard or care about CID etc.
3. Download it from the bottom here, then use Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A, Point [7] to run it as a PB99IMG.zip from the root of your sdcard. That way you don't need to run it through USB or care about what drivers are installed.
Thank you Eddie, I will try that. I did try flash a PB99IMG.zip before with no success but I will try again.
I found it here Official Stock Sense Gingerbread_v1.2 GB-2.3.3_A2SD – http://androidba.se/J7 for desire (neophyte)
I hope it can work out ok. I guess I format the sd card to fat32 not ext4
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks,

That did not work because the file is not an RUU...it is a stock rooted custom ROM with A2SD (the clue is in the name). It is designed to flashed in recovery like any other ROM. Renaming it to PB99IMG.zip won't do anything.
Use the actual shipped roms RUU link provided.
Reformat your sdcard to a single FAT32 partition if necessary, then follow Method [7] of the guide, place only the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard (not in any folder)
