Choose input method - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have been using SwiftKey 3 for a while, but every day (at least once sometimes more) I am asked to 'Choose input method'. How do I stop this and keep SwiftKey as my keyboard?

When does it tell you? Is it when you are required to type or just randomly out of the blue?

I'm rooted, and have Swiftkey. I also have Titanium Backup app. If I had your issue, one way to deal with it, would be to freeze the stock keyboard via Titanium.

Yes apparently there is a bug with the latest JB for AT&T so when you reboot your phone it defaults to the Samsung Keyboard.

Well, that may be it, as it does 'sometimes' default back to the Samsung keyboard. But only sometimes, sometimes it asks and SwiftKey is already selected. And, it doesn't take a reboot. In fact, it just showed up now as I write this post. I am using a rooted stock LK3 rom.

[Q] Spell Correction Issues

The issue i'm facing is the horrible spell correction on my S3. I came from my old S1 directly to the S3. On my old S1 I could type a word out and if it was anywhere near close, the phone would correct it. On my S3 it obviously knows I'm spelling it wrong because it gives me the option to correct it to the right word, but doesn't do it automatically. I am under the impression that it has to be a setting somewhere because even when I downloaded swift I had the same issues. In settings, under the stock keyboard I have all the right boxes clicked as far as what I suspect it should be, but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue.

I am also curious about this. I never had this issue until I flashed the stock touchwiz rooted roms. Now my mistyped words are never corrected automatically no matter what options I select. The rom obviously changed something in the keyboard....anyone know a fix for this? Things like "vibrate on keypress" or the "hand writing" functions just plain don't work/show up. Thanks for any help.

Swift keyboard issues.

I downloaded the swift keyboard app since I like it more than the Samsung standard keyboard.
My issue is that even tho I set the swift keyboard as default, when I restart my phone, it will always revert back to samsung. Any ideas how to stop this?

This has already been brought up several times on the forum. Check out this link and remember to always give a good search first before starting new threads. Cheers

I always use Titanium Backup to freeze or uninstall the stock keyboard. So I've never had a problem with this.

[Q] 4.1.2 Keyboard versus Swiftkey question.

Now that we have received our new JB 4.1.2 update from T-Mobile (yeah! :victory, I have a question.
Samsung licensed Swiftkey technology for their keyboard. It does look much better and respond better than before. I also own Swiftkey. That said, I'm waffling between sticking with the stock keyboard and saving some memory versus running Swiftkey and having some additional options for customization.
What do you do?
Do whatever one you prefer, don't know why you want the answer given to you, just preference. Don't stop using apps just because memory more this phone has its memory

I stopped using SwiftKey because:
1) it was not remembering the words I told it to remember.
2) swipe prediction was terrible.
Using Swype now.
I prefer the note 2 keyboard myself because it has the numbers on top and I don't have to keep it that stupid little button on the side to make my numbers pop up.

Same here. I would gladly buy the newer swiftkey if it had the option to add the numbers at the top

Or just use the free note 2 keyboard from a flashable zip.

Only SwiftKey can insert space bar by swiping over the space bar without letting go of your finger. I find that really hard to beat. I'll stick to SwiftKey until I find something that could do better.
Been looking
Hi guys first post ever here in XDA. Been lurking for a while.
I have the Frosty JB 4.1.1 v11.2.1. I removed alot of apps through Titanium and when I do a factory reset, I don't have any keyboards. I am looking for the stock or note2 or the new 4.1.2 keyboard to install. I have swype but want to get stock so I can put it in the proper folder for factory resets so I wont be without a keyboard upon reboot. I have searched and all I keep finding is themed KB and cant get them to work. I hate the dev stopped producing the frosty rom, I love it on my phone. Cant find the v11.2.1 or I would just start fresh there.
Thanks in advance.

You can either "convert to System app" using TiBu Pro or move the .apk to the /system/app folder and reboot. Root is required for either.
And just fyi, there shouldn't be a link to the note2 kb in the themes and apps sticky.

Because your SwiftKey is from the black market if you have one from the play store and latest upgrade it will stick after reboot like my.

Thank you all. I found tp2215 library and picked up the note2 and installed via zip in cwm.
Then bought the TIBU, per DJ_SpaRky recommendation. I then made a sys app out of the note2.
I just did a factory restore and whamo, Im up and going.
Thank you all very much.
Glad to hear that you were able to get it done.

Preferences
Its all based on your preferences. I have used both and didn't think anything could be better than swiftkey till I saw the new Samsung keyboard on the s4 Note2 roms. I go back and forth now looking for a new king. I like the option of having the permanent numbers row on the ported note2 but I am also trying the new Kii keyboard on the play store. Install them all and swap back and ofrth in settings untill you decide which works best for you. I currently have 4 or 5 installed.

Problem With Keyboard Default

Can someone please tell me how I can get the Samsung keyboard to stop commandeering my phone? I set the default to Swiftkey and use it for whatever I'm currently doing, then the next time I need to type, the Samsung keyboard is back as the default.
I'd just delete the Samsung keyboard if I knew how, but I can't see a way to do it.
Thanks!

I thought of that, but unfortunately, since upgrading my OS my normal rooting method no longer works, and I'm still waiting for a program upgrade.

Thanks a lot. I just finally got a chance to try this, and it doesn't work (unless I'm missing something again). In Language and Input settings, Samsung keyboard is checked and grayed out so that I can't uncheck it. In application manager, when I select it, the Disable button is grayed out.
It looks like Samsung is set on forcing me to use their keyboard.
I had the issue with the default keyboard resetting on reboot on TW roms. Paid apps don't become available until after the keyboard is set. I'm on pacman now and it stays as default regularly.
It never reset after each use though.

U probably have to have another keyboard selected as default before you're able to do this. Is your phone rooted?

SwiftKey won't stay as default

I can't get SwiftKey to stick as the default app.
It always pops up the HTC keyboard after a while.

This seems to be a problem with SwiftKey. To fix it I disabled all other keyboards with Titanium Backup.

The issue is that Google Play installs paid apps in a particular location on your phone and that in some versions of Android this location is not available at the point in the boot process where keyboards are being switched on. So your phone does not know that you have SwiftKey, and it defaults back to the phone's keyboard.

I've googled the issue already, it's not this.
It's worked on viper rom normally before.
But now after reflashed everything, it doesn't work.
It's not a boot issue, it will overwrite the SwiftKey app at random, or when the screen is off for a while (when I'm not using SwiftKey).
