[Q] Error searching for networks on Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used Irrevoked3 to root my Desire.
Then AlphaRev for S-OFF
The I flashed the latest radio 5.17.05.23
When I try to search for a network, I get the usual Error whilst searching for networks message.
Wifi works fine.
I've searched for a solution to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
The boot screen shows the following:
BRAVO PVT 4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP 051d

Have you tried looking for your operator's apn and putting them in manually in the networks settings menu?

Which version of Android are you running at the moment?
(When this happened to me originally, with an unrooted phone, it was a hardware fault that needed fixing under warranty.)

Phone was working perfectly just before I made the changes.
I also have a Desire S which had the same problem. Got around it somehow but can't remember how. I used Revolutionary to S-OFF
Thanks for the help

Have you checked the md5sum of your radio zip?

Downloaded and installed that one just now. Same problem

Did you try my suggestion above? Settings> wireless and networks> mobile networks> access point names and check all the settings are correct for your operator? Happened to me about 18 months ago and that was the solution that worked for me.

Just noticed your post. Sorry.
That's a heck of a lot to type in. Also, there are hidden characters on the password entry in my other phone. Do I need to enter those too check?
I tried tying in just the Name and APN. It asked for MCC and MNC numbers, which I copied from my other phone. Then saved. But no APN shows up. Blank screen.

I don't remember typing that much, I googled my network operator's apn and just typed in the result. But it can't have been more than 4 or 5 fields that I had to complete? Certainly no hidden characters or passwords were required.

Yes I did the same too. There are no APNs listed

SOLVED
Yes, it was an APN problem.
After a bit more searching, I learned that the APNs are stored on the SIM card and that the SIM card may be the problem.
I switched SIM cards from T-Mobile to Orange and immediately got a list of networks after returning APNs to default.
All I have to do now is figure out how to get a T-Mobile SIM to work in this previously Orange phone.
Thanks very much for alerting me to APNs

Halfway there then, good luck

[Q] No data connection in Germany using pre-paid Vodafone SIM at all

Mobile signal is perfectly fine - I can send and receive calls and SMS. I am running G2Slim 1.6. Radio is the latest - 26.13.04.19_M, but I tried several different radios with no result. I have tried every combination of data roaming/only 2g networks allowed/disallowed. I have talked to the reps at the store and they said everything should be correctly activated as far as the SIM goes and data should be working.
It is entirely possible that this is a hardware problem with my phone - I've been having problems with my WiFi that seem to be caused by hardware. However, data works fine in the U.S. Any ideas? What steps can I take to diagnose this?
In the dialer type *#*#4636#*#* check your settings
You also may want to check if the proper apn is set up

Thank you!
I did not know about this menu, although I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. It gives "No Error" for the reason data is disconnected. Network type is set to WCDMA preferred. I tried toggling DNS check, no difference. Although I can't imagine that would matter, phone has to connect to something before it needs to worry about DNS.
As far as APN's - in the normal Mobile networks menu, when I go to Access Point Names, the list is blank. Perhaps this is significant?
That's your problem, need to add the apn you need. You can find this info by googling it and if you find nothing helpfull there are apps on the market that can do most of the wrok for you

No service?

This is a weird one.
Just bought a Desire HD, the guy said it was unlocked. It come with a Orange sim card inside. It had a signal.
I took it out and stuck my giffgaff sim card in there and it says no signal, not "network locked".
So i tried texting my mate, and it sent some how after saying that it had no signal. So sometime later i get a reply saying "Sup" from him.
It still says no signal. I tried another giffgaff sim and that also says no signal. i tried a Tesco mobile sim and that says no signal.
And somehow, without the wifi on, it downloaded a htc update.
I then tried the original Orange sim and it still works.
What the heck is happening?
Thanks

Sounds almost as if it's network locked, or that the data network is set to use orange only Settings>Wireless & Networks > Mobile networks >network operators. If that doesnt work you could always try the advanced ace hack kit (Google it, as it's no longer available on XDA) to give you super CID which will allow it to work with any network.

Ive tried choosing 02 UK as the operator and it says "Your sim card doesnt allow connection to this network"
Now, I don't get this. I'm replying to this from my Desire that says "emergency calls only" without the WiFi on and not connected to anything. What the heck????

Ive unlocked the bootloader just via the HTCDev site.
Please help...
Thanks
If you unlocked the bootloader to flash roms, relock it and unroot using the ace hack kit. It's going to save you a lot of trouble.
Regarding your giffgaff sim, no idea.
Google to see if there is a way to find out if you are actually sim unlocked.

silly question but have you set the APN correctly ??????
noticed your already getting assisted on GG forums why do you need multiple forum assist ????
I need multiple forum assists as i dont know if it to do with the network and my sim or the phone.
The APN is set correctly, my phone shows no signal, all the time, with a giffgaff sim inserted.
But the very strange thing is that, sometimes it will let me use the internet. And i am not connected to wifi?
Ive contacted htc with my problem and they just said hard reset, which didnt change anything.
Still have the same problem...
And i cant find any solution...
Can anybody help me!?

Have you tested a different sim on your phone? Does it work?
Have you tested your sim in another phone? Does it work?

Tethering problem.

Hi guys.I've wanted to ask is someone having problems with the internet sharing on the HTC 8S?
I have this phone almost a year and in the first few months it was working all fine but since then i can't manage to share the internet over it.
It is enabling like it should and all the devices are connecting to it without no problem, just can't go to the net.
Can someone give me an advice where could be the problem?
Thanks.

When i put "internet" on the APN field i don`t even have a connection on my phone. When everything is left blank like it was in the first place i have the problem with no tethering. So this is not working for me.Lucky you.

Tethering should only work if proper APN setup is done. If these setting are empty (as you said), then tethering cannot work. That is my experience, too. Check which APN you are subscribed to, or which APN does your operator use for internet access.
Unfortunately my operator currently does not have support for my HTC 8S for the APN's.I'm stuck with no setting's at this moment. All the fields are blank and everything is working just fine only no tethering. Can I somehow copy the setting's from my friends Galaxy S3 who has tethering option and it's on the same operator?

You only need to put APN name, usually "internet" is used for internet access.
Ok i think i fix it now.I will try later with my PC at home and see if it can connect too.I've tried with another android device and it has connected without a problem. The problem was in the apn parameters given from my Operator.I've found them on another site and it looks like these are the correct ones.Anyway thank you a lot for your efforts.

Take care.

[Q] Mobile interenet not working on HTC ONE X

Hi,
My question is not regarding interet pass through. My question is that on my phone I cannot get my mobile internet working on my phone.
When I try to tick(select) mobile intyerent option on the phone, it doesn't allow me to change that option. I have read the forum on htc website. I believe that the latest software update for this phone model is the cause behind mobile interent not working on the phone.
I want to know, If anything can be done to solve this issue and get back the mobile interent to work on the phone?
May be by degrading (uninstalling) the software update to the previous version. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
Regards,
S

Yes, I have tried changing the network mode, it was gsm/wcdma then I tried to put it on auto or gsm, then put it back on gsm/cdma.
Also, I have tried searching for manual network and then I get two options - Optus and Virgin(optus network reseller), no matter what I select, the mobile interent doesnt works

Questions re Network/APN (and also #*#*4636*=*#) for best LTE, VoLTE, or nearest ther

Hi..
I bought an unlocked HTC 10 from HTC a few months ago. My carrier is TMOUS. I have read a few places around XDA and Reddit that the HTC SIM-unlocked phones on TMOUS experience erratic signal strength and/or coverage for voice, data, MMS, etc. at times.
ThinKing I might investigate this by looking at the APN settings, I checked my phone to examine the the specifics of my APN configuration, and I noticed several items that were missing from most of the "2016 TMO APN Settings" found around the web. Specifically, the settings under MMSC and APN Type seemed to be incomplete or incorrect.
After changing some settings of the APN settings above, and also going into "#*#*4636*#*#" under "Phone Information" and changing more, I lost all data and voice for a few minutes. I simply rebooted to get those original settings back, butreboot and get things back but now I would really like to know what the settings those T-Mobile customers who purchased their HTC 10s from TMO before they abandoned their sale of them. I also would be interested in anyone suggestions on how I might keep new settings if a reboot just restores the original settings.
Specifically (as far as settings) I am curious as to the settings they have for their main APN, and also what is set for "Set Preferred Network Type" under the menu/settings when "#*#*4636*#*#" is typed and you go into "phone information". The correct setting is a list of protocols. I have checked around the web and cannot seem to select the right list of protocols on this phone, so I am really puzzled as to the right setting.
Ant help would be appreciated...!

Thank you! The list of things after APN Type is great...All I had was "default, supl"! Also thank you for that "Set Preferred Network" of GSM, WCDMA, LTE (Auto).
However, what's really strange is that I don't have an option for "APN Protocol" nor "APN Roaming Protocol"...so i can't specify the IP protocol.
I was hoping to enter IP protocol because I read that T-Mobile now has IPv6 up and running.... soooo if you change "APN Protocol" to IPv6, you should experience a better signal as IPv6 is probably only being used as overflow right now.
Try it (if you want) and let me know if you experience any difference.
EDIT: One more question..under Settings-> Mobile Data -> Preferred Network"?
I have two choices: Global or GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Right now I have global selected, but don't know which one is correct. What is yours set to?

Which T-Mobile app? There are like 5 of them.
I installed the one just called T-Mobile and it said "T-Mobile is hitting some rough waters and isn't available right now", so it may not like the fact that I am rooted, S-off, etc. But I'm not sure....

I'm s-off already, so I'm good to go...But what do you mean convert to T-Mobile? When I got this phone and put my T-mobile SIM card in, and started it for the first time, it pre-selected T-Mobile network and took a few minutes to configure (and presumably the correct bands and frequencies) automatically.
When I go into "Select Network operator" only T-Mobile and AT&T are working choices...and T-Mobile has a start next to it likely indicating it's the proper network for this phone.
So I think it's already a "T-Mobile" phone.

change cid to T-Mobile cid and flash ruu. Then you will have T-Mobile radio. When Android N comes it should be fixed on us unlocked versions. I have 2 10s and ones on T-Mobile and other us unlocked and on us unlocked band 12 is unstable where I'm at so I get all the problems you described.

Thank you... Do you think it would be possible to just change the CID and create a SDcard zip file with TMO firmware. In the past (with my HTC M8) I have extracted the components from a stock ROM.zip (which I got from an RUU) and created a firmware zip which simply updated my firmware and didn't wipe internal storage flash stock recovery, etc, etc....
I guess my question is...provided I create the bootable external SD firmware.zip correctly and also change the CID, is this a feasible plan?

yes it may be possible but I'm pretty sure data is going to need to be wiped. When I used the firmware zip method to convert to T-Mobile my data wouldn't work without doing the ruu first then waiting till it booted fully first. Then proceeded to install twrp and custom rom. So if you end up with data problems then you must ruu.
I have the latest ruu for T-Mobile I just haven't uploaded it yet. If you need it let me know.

Uploading the latest RUU would be amazingly helpful!!
One of the reasons I am hesitant to RUU this phone is because I'm on the HTC build 1.96.617.2 (and an OTA waiting if I want to install it manually), but the TMO RUU I found in this forum is 1.80.xxx...which I believe is from last June. I didn't really want to go back to that older build...
EDIT: I was going to change my CID, but just realized I have no idea what the T-Mobile CID or MID actually are. Could you possibly do a "getvar all" (or if you already know it). I searched around for it but only found HTC CIDs and obviously SuperCID.
