[FAQ] Remove HTC One X 3 dots Menu soft button - HTC One X

First of all, you need to have Software number 2.17 or above.
Go to Settings.
Select Display, gestures & buttons.
Click on Recent Apps button >>> Always open recent apps.
Change it to "Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps" or "Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu".
That’s all & enjoy

This was something I really needed, thank you!

Menu button in apps

This is annoying. I've had my one x for a week and all the apps I still use still have this button with no update from the devs. Do you guys think devs will update their apps to get rid of this on the one x? It takes away too much screen.
I'm a bit annoyed as well, devellopers need to update their apps to have the button on top, this takes a long time before all apps are updated, leave a comment in the Google Play store with all apps you use and hopefully they will update!

Also, a lot of apps don't even need the menu button at all.

I'm running firmware 1.19, and I have the option to hide the menu bar. I wonder if its a feature that HTC will re-enable.

Where do you find that option?
a long press multi task button = menu type of ordeal would be awesome!
But i bet that is custom rom territory, don't see HTC being so intuitive

I have a arrow down, on my menu bar and it hides it and to bring it back up all I have to do is long press the multitask button.

So, I'm not sure if this was a feature they had and then removed from later firmware. If so I hope they bring the feature back, before I get the notice for firmware 1.28

Changing the role of the capacative buttons.

Hello thanks for peeking at this post.
I want to use my capacative buttons in the same way I did on my Galaxy S.
At the moment as there is no dedicated menu button (only the task switcher) a lot of apps - including this XDA app show a bar with three dots and take away from the screen real estate to give me menu options.
Anyone know how I can make the middle button a long press for task manager and use the right button as a menu button (which would hopefully remove this stupid long bar which I find totally stupid and detracts from my enjoyment of this device?
any advice greatly appreciated.

Err....any rom in the development section!
Anyone got a mod that can be done on stock? I dont want to use HTC dev to unlock incase it turns into a duck due to hardware fault (nothing to do with Rom flashing) and it needs to be returned.

3 dot menu ICS option...

Hi all, I've done a number of searches and can't remember if I've made this up in my head. But do I remember correctly reading that HTC were planning an update to include and option to disable the 3 dot menu for non ICS optimised apps?
Thanks

I don't know if they are. I read that someone had looked into the latest update and had seen some coding suggesting that HTC are. If someone can let us know that'd be great as the button annoys me.

You can simply root your phone, get the CWM and get this fix from the developers here on XDA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25063642&postcount=279
This will remove your 3dot menu bar and simply assign the menu when you long press home or recent apps button.
I was hoping to avoid root for a while unless an alternative to htc-dev was found.

I've read somewhere that an exploit has been found but so far no root method without unlocking your bootloader has been posted.

XDA Premium App

Hi..I installed xda premium app on my HOX..And i can't make a new topic cause i don't have menu button on the bottom of application.. Is there any update or something?
What button do you normally use to open in-app menus ?
It's weird that HTC just put in Back, Home, and Recent Apps (I use the "Menu" button all the time, why would they make that hard to find ?). Is there any way to configure those ? Do any of those buttons perform the function with a long press (my home button will do recent apps on long press) ?
Now i will show ya for example i use 24sata application..

I Googled it and found this : http://www.androidcentral.com/htcs-fix-menu-button-issue-welcome-not-very-elegant
You can set the "Recent Apps" button to function as a Menu button on long press or vice-versa.
Thank you!
Bro... button savior app is available on play store...
Try it for more keys...

[SOLVED] Trebuchet settings on HOX in CM11

Hello world,
unfortunately I can't post directly in the CM11 thread, as this is my first post here.
I am running the latest CM11 nightly (2014-02-04) on my HTC One X. Since the Launcher3 -> Trebuchet migration I fail to see how it is possible to access the Trebuchet settings.
From other devices it seems to me that there should be a "Home" entry in the settings. However, I can't seem to find it on our HOX.
(a) Am I blind and just can't find it?
(b) Is this a problem specific to my device, i.e. do you guys have "Home" settings?
(c) Is this a problem concerning CM11 for HOX in general?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

So you do have a "Home" menu in your settings? Where should it be? Can't seem to find it on my device.

Just in case someone else walks into the same problem: "Settings -> Home" is not available when there is only one launcher (Trebuchet) installed. There is no way to edit Trebuchet settings without having to install a second launcher.
Ugly solution: Go to Play Store and install a second launcher, then the missing menu items suddenly appear.

If you click on Settings has gone home, and for a time was back there at the bottom of the menu Trebuchet settings now only the search icon.
