Changing the role of the capacative buttons. - HTC One X

Hello thanks for peeking at this post.
I want to use my capacative buttons in the same way I did on my Galaxy S.
At the moment as there is no dedicated menu button (only the task switcher) a lot of apps - including this XDA app show a bar with three dots and take away from the screen real estate to give me menu options.
Anyone know how I can make the middle button a long press for task manager and use the right button as a menu button (which would hopefully remove this stupid long bar which I find totally stupid and detracts from my enjoyment of this device?
any advice greatly appreciated.

Err....any rom in the development section!

Anyone got a mod that can be done on stock? I dont want to use HTC dev to unlock incase it turns into a duck due to hardware fault (nothing to do with Rom flashing) and it needs to be returned.

[Q]. Ability to hide menu bar

Hello,
I received my HOX today and I have been seeing pictures and articles about the menu button taking screen space. But on my device I have the ability to hide the bar by clicking a down arrow and bring it back up by holding the multitask button. My question is, is this a feature that got removed from later builds because I'm currently on firmware 1.19.707.1.
Thanks

I don't have that feature, I'm surprised it shipped with a old firmware as I have 1.26 and unbranded now have 1.28. I do wish I had that feature though!

Menu button in apps

This is annoying. I've had my one x for a week and all the apps I still use still have this button with no update from the devs. Do you guys think devs will update their apps to get rid of this on the one x? It takes away too much screen.
I'm a bit annoyed as well, devellopers need to update their apps to have the button on top, this takes a long time before all apps are updated, leave a comment in the Google Play store with all apps you use and hopefully they will update!

good idea
Also, a lot of apps don't even need the menu button at all.
+1
including xda app as well

I'm running firmware 1.19, and I have the option to hide the menu bar. I wonder if its a feature that HTC will re-enable.

Where do you find that option?
a long press multi task button = menu type of ordeal would be awesome!
But i bet that is custom rom territory, don't see HTC being so intuitive

I have a arrow down, on my menu bar and it hides it and to bring it back up all I have to do is long press the multitask button.

So, I'm not sure if this was a feature they had and then removed from later firmware. If so I hope they bring the feature back, before I get the notice for firmware 1.28

3 dot menu ICS option...

Hi all, I've done a number of searches and can't remember if I've made this up in my head. But do I remember correctly reading that HTC were planning an update to include and option to disable the 3 dot menu for non ICS optimised apps?
Thanks

I don't know if they are. I read that someone had looked into the latest update and had seen some coding suggesting that HTC are. If someone can let us know that'd be great as the button annoys me.

You can simply root your phone, get the CWM and get this fix from the developers here on XDA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25063642&postcount=279
This will remove your 3dot menu bar and simply assign the menu when you long press home or recent apps button.
I was hoping to avoid root for a while unless an alternative to htc-dev was found.

I've read somewhere that an exploit has been found but so far no root method without unlocking your bootloader has been posted.

[FAQ] Remove HTC One X 3 dots Menu soft button

First of all, you need to have Software number 2.17 or above.
Go to Settings.
Select Display, gestures & buttons.
Click on Recent Apps button >>> Always open recent apps.
Change it to "Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps" or "Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu".
That’s all & enjoy
This was something I really needed, thank you!
Does someone know how to set this within the build.prop for set this value by default?

Hmmm... Working nice for me.

Thank you. This is what I need.

Hardware key mapping.

Hey everyone! I've been looking on how to change my hardware keys. As in I would like to get rid of my navigation bar, which I know how to, and make my power button the home key. Or maybe something like one press goes home and then maybe a double tap would shut the screen off. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

The easiest way is probably to use a Custom rom which supports hardware key remapping like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324710
You also can use Zip Themer. like here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232770
Now I seen the key mapping feature in du. However I can't make the lock button go to home.
