[Q] Recovering from a soft-brick help [Volume Up and ADB not working] - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I am stuck in a unique situation for which I did not find any answer while searching this forum. Any help is appreciated.
I have CM 10 installed on my S3 and am currently stuck in an infinite boot loop (forever stuck on the Cyanogenmod splash screen at boot-up). The problem is, I can't enter recovery because my Volume UP key does not work. I also tried ADB, and it won't detect my phone because most probably it does not have USB debugging enabled.
I have the necessary drivers for S3 installed and know for a fact that ADB is working, because it can see my wife's S3 just fine and I can send commands to it. Yet, it cannot detect my S3.
ODIN *CAN* detect my phone, but since I cannot enter download mode....I can't flash anything.
Is there anything I can try to get into recovery? Or anything else? Thanks for the help.

Download mode is volume down+power+home, you should have no problem getting to download mode.

After doing this, the phone first shows a warning screen and tells you to press Volume UP to continue, which, I can't.

This same thing happened to me today, and I am now stuck in ODIN mode, which sucks because I have a Mac and cannot get odin on my machine (to my knowledge)

You have to use volume up and down at the same time. So press both volume buttons and power button at the same time to get into the bootloader.

I understand that but my volume up button does not work. stopped working randomly about two weeks ago. Therefore I can not get into bootloader. Only odin mode. So once in odin I cant get odin to see the gnex. I imagine its the drivers but they seem to be installing ok. Anybody have any ideas or am i screwed? I also took it apart to see if i could see something wrong with volume up button. No luck
Do you have USB Debugging enabled in your settings? If so, boot your device (yes, I understand that you will only see a black screen, but it doesn't matter) and plug into your PC. Once it is fully booted, open a command prompt on your PC and type: adb reboot bootloader
Then you can get into your recovery and then follow the instructions here.

It was enabled before the issue. Thanks for the advise but t gave up trying to fix it. Its my company line so I just ported my number to a temp phone and awaiting a replacement from assurion. Cant afford it being out of service too long. Guess i will just start over. But this time no hardware issues so bootloader wont be a problem again.

Cannot root phone usb is not responding

Have there been any updates on how to root the Galaxy s2 without usb. I've tried to use the sd card but when I attempt to flash it it says E:failed to verify whole-signature. The phone is not being recognized by usb and I can not get the phone into download mode at all. It keeps going to the (a)revocery mode.
Please tell me how you are attempting to go into download mode?
And have you installed latest Samsung drivers on your computer? Exactly what happens when you plug phone into computer?
No, you can't do anything without USB.

Which Phone you have? I mean Telus or Tmobile ? Both have different Key combination for putting the phone in Download mode.
Telus version - Only Press Volume down while rebooting
Tmobile- Press Both Volume Down and UP while rebooting
Hope this helps.
I have a TMobile galaxy s2 and im trying to root it but I can't get into download mode to use Odin. The PC does not even recognize my phone as a hard drive when I connect it. I did install the Samsung drivers, I've tried to get into download miss by holding the Vol+ and - and Inserting the USB but it only goes to recovery.

For kicks and giggles, have you held just power and volume down......waited for the vibration.....then kept holding down.... But let go of power???
I'm on Telus.....that's how I go to download mode. Works every time reliably.
For me power plus volume up and down is for recovery.

Can't get past download mode screen

So my problem is for some odd reason I can't get into the actual download mode. I get to the screen where it says click volume up to continue, then when I click volume up nothing happens. And my volume keys work 100% I can get into the stock recovery mode just fine and move around, but can't fully get into download mode. This is getting frustrating because i'm trying to root my phone.
Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be requires to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.

Has anything happened with the device that would alter your DL mode ??
Using Odin prior to a failure for example ??
Very odd error ...and one I've not heard of before now ...given the fact that DL mode works 50%...
It is possible that the partition is damaged some how ..but a fix is a level below Odin itself ...and to my knowledge would be factory level repair if DL mode won't function...
Sorry I can't be more help ...g

Don't know if it will work, but you could try using kies to do an emergency firmware restore. Don't know if it will fix download mode though.

Thanks, I thought it might be something beyond my repair. Umm the only thing that happened to the device is the usb port is damaged and only charges. I have ordered a new USB port because the repair is very easy. Then after it's fixed ill try to adb reboot download and see if that works. My only question is do you know if the adb command reboots to the same screen or if its reboots to the actual download mode, so in theory it bypasses me clicked volume up.

[Q] Can not enter download mode

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I am not new to the rooting scene. But I am stuck on this issue
I am attempting to enter download mode for my Samsung Tablet 3 10.1 Wifi.
I am pressing the power / down volume combo and I get to the boot screen and let go. From here it goes right into recovery mode
I get the screen with the android and it says no command / error and stops there with the recovery options.
At this time I am on stock 4.2.2 and been trying to get this error figured out. I have searched briefly on here and googled other solutions but they all require to get into download mode, which I am having trouble getting to.
Any suggestions ? Or point me to a solution

Hi !
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried that method as well and it still sends me to the recovery screen. Though I did manage to see a new screen that gave me a option to press volume up to continue and volume down to reboot. When I pressed volume up it just rebooted normally

[Q] Need help. I think I messed up somewhere.

I'm trying to get TWRP installed. I rooted my phone with KINGO Root and that went fine. Installed TWRP from the Google play store. I installed TWRP through the app.
It ask me to choose the model of phone I'm on. I have a i337m from Telus. It asked me to confirm that dev/block//dev/block/mmcblk0p21 was my recovery block. I selected yes. It then flashed and said it was successful and asked if I wanted to boot into recovery. I selected yes, but now my phone hangs on the boot screen.
It say recovery booting in the top right as well as "Recovery is not SeAndroid enforcing" and "Set Warranty Bit: recovery". It stays there and doesn't do anything else.
Did I just brick my phone?

The SeAndroid, and warranty bit warnings are normal, try manually flashing TWRP through Odin; sounds like it was a bad flash.
