MIUI 4.1 Modem - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

FI27 modem worked like crap, any suggestions on better data? Different modem? can i do the 3g and proxy tweaks on miui, should that help? I was just on FL16 and was getting about 5 times better speeeds which was about 10 minutes ago. Rather then flashing a bunch of modems, i thought id ask. Thanks.

Anyone have the EF10 modem?

I have had the stock EF02 on for over an hour but have not gotten the ED10 modem yet. Can anyone post it up for me?

Hmm. Strange. Maybe try rebooting and trying again? Also... Try and download something from the market and then checking.... If that doesn't work try and odin back to ec05 then back to ef02 and try again. Let me know how it goes.
I have tried all of that countless times. Do you have the modem? Can you post it if you do?
trust me you don't want it anyway, EF02 is A LOT better

Playing with both modems now. EF02 was eh ok in my area. 4g was 5.5d 1.6 u. GPS locked faster than i've ever seen. Just pushed to EF10 and rejected it's love of looking for random updates.
Flashed back to EF02 over a thought that they're sacrificing GPS for speed or can't figure out how or why to release them in a modem together. I believe the EF02 amazing modem might be true.
Final verdict: EF02 is the ****. Instant GPS lock and 6-7mbs d/1.6 mbs u on 4g avg. I don't know what went wrong in EF10

[Q] stupid question about radios and/or modems

Can someone please explain to me radio updates? Are they the same thing as modems updates?
I recently changed my stock epic 4g to Syndicate Frozen and I have noticed that where I used to get a wonderful wifi signal, it can hardly pick up a signal. Not at my home, but in other places.
So I recognize this needs some tweaking, but I could use some knowledgeable well explained info before I just start updating. I've made mistakes before that has brought the odin out in me when I act without haste so I'd rather not go through that for the forth time
Any info and or links would be greatly appreciated.

Yes
That's where I found the ROM.
Maybe a special radio or modem is needed to properly supplement the ROM.
Sorry if I offended you.
I don't know much lol but I believe they are the same (radios & modems). Its a very simple flash with odin just put modem.tar in phone slot not pda, takes maybe 30 second for a modem. But as it goes backup first always. Also, hate to tell you but you posted this in the wrong area. This thread should be in q&a section.

I appreciate your response, but I'm looking for more info on specifics. What radio is best for wifi or what radio is best for 4g or what radio is best a custom ROM.
I suppose I'll post elsewhere. I hope I can find the right place to post these sorts of questions.

I believe the radio/modem/baseband firmware has no bearing on either WiFi or 4G.
i know the modem doesn't impact wifi (use the same modem for EH06 vs an EC05 rom and you'll see a difference in wifi signal strength) but i don't play with 4g enough to see if the modem affects anything. 4g is still too spotty in my area to use regularly..

So this is my problem. I never use 4G either but the wifi is a problem, especially when I'm using public networks.
Thanks for the info.
I am using SyndicateFrozen Rom 1.2 and I installed the EH06 modem and noticed a big difference over the EC05 modem.
Do you know where I can find this modem?
There is a bunch of them here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123103
Android development its stickied all the modems...and I think I heard that the modem has control over wifi/4g/bluetooth. I personlly dont think wifi tho

Nope, none of the modems produce better 4G for me. Getting 8Mbps on EC05. I'm sticking with it until official GB.

I know for sure my wifi reception is worse on this new ROM (Frozen Syndicate). I'm going to flash the radio for ECO5 and see if that helps.
So the Frozen Syndicate ROM started throwing an error that interfering with my incoming and outgoing calls and voice mails. I've switched to StarskyROM Alpha v2 EH17 and so far I'm very pleased.
But I'm seeing that my wi-fi is not at full strength, even though I'm right next to the router. I know they say to try different modems and find the right one.
But I'm looking for a method. What should I try first? EH17 because that's in the name of the ROM? Or EC05 because that's in the Baseband version? Or should I go through the list and try them all? If so, how do I test them to see which one is most effective?
Thanks.

4G connection keeps getting disconnected.

I like this phone a lot but the 4G connection is so unstable that it makes the whole experience very frustrating.
I used to have an HTC EVO 4g, and despite all, it would connect to 4G inside my office and most importantly it would stay connected the whole time.
The same thing with my Motorola Photon, The phone didn't have full bars while on 4g but it would stay connected to it as long as I wanted.
My SG2 however, disconnects very ramdomly.
Say it's connected to 4G and as soon as I wake up the phone, it turns off.
Say it's already on and connected to 4G, as I open an app, it disconnects.
One of the worse parts, is when it disconnects and doesn't even give a 3G connection but a 1X
Ohh it's very frustrating. I love this phone and its features but if the software is so unstable I would consider replacing it.
btw, I'm in NYC, My phone is rooted with the StrongSteve Odexed Blue EL29 custom ROM, and I got the latest modem (FB27).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend updating your PRL and profile under system updates. I flash a lot of ROMs and right after I always seem to have connection issues. Then I remember to do the updates and everything works great.
Good luck!

Have you tried any other modems?
There are a few newer ones out there now (since FB27).
The one I've had the most luck with is FC07. Here's a link to it off you'd like.

[Q] Modems and loss of signal sph-d710

Hello all i am new here. ive been rooting for a little while now and i have nothing but issues with my modems and connection. Im running The Blu Kuban ICS 1.0.4.0 with steady hawkins fd02 kernal with cwm. ive tried mutliple roms and kernals and every modem out there. every speed test i run on 4G i get under one meg. before on a stock el29 even rooted i would get 13 to 15 megs. but as soon as i install any rom GB or ics its dead. i am look for any suggestions i can get. thank you for your time. and yes im aware of looking around the site. i have not seen anything that really equals to my issues.

Too me your issues are not exactly something the community can help you with especially if you have tried everything out there. I would just odin back to complete stock and try your speed test again. If you achieve the speeds you want then I would then proceed with flashing roms only and do speed tests after every one.
Honestly the EL29 modem has worked the best for me and I am on CM9. I know you are looking for answers but I unfortunately don't know what they could be other than just keep trying. Different modems work better for different people in different areas. So the resolution for one may not be the resolution for all in this case.
Final choice may be what did you root your phone too do. If its just tethering then Foxfi can cure that with out being rooted. I guess its a matter of whats most important too you if you cant get back up to the speeds you desire...
Edit: Have you done Profile Updates after updating modems? Have you done PRL updates at all? Have you asked Sprint to refresh your data?
I have tried the prl and profile on about 75 of the modems ive flashed. some are 50/50 some see very minor jumps and some seem to decrease. i thought about calling sprint but i was nervous if they would ask about the specs that i dont have due to the phone being rooted and flashed. ive seen a post about how the phone may be stuck in 1x in the radio or something along those lines. but once i get into the debug mode all of the menus and everything that is packed in is way out of my league. im going to wait for the kuban update. i will start from square one and test everything out. EL29 did wonders for me stock root but once i flashed over to caulk or blu kuban it all seems to go down hill. i really like the layouts and the battery life thats why i always come back to a custom rom. thank you for helping me.

Little or no signal.

I had flashed to an AOKP rom a while back and had since had a very significant and noticeable drop in signal strength. So much so that I was unable to get a signal at all in places when I would normally have 2-3 bars. Other people still get signal in those places with the same service provider. I decided to try to flash different modems to try and fix the problem. I have since tried 3 different JB modems from rogerwilco's modem repository for the E4GT. Every single one I have not been able to get a data connection at all. At most I have been able to get 1-2 bars and no data connection. Even if my signal strength was low I could care less as long as I could get a data connection at all... can someone please assist me? Has anyone else been running across any other type of issue? I also wanted to know... when I update profile and PRL... is this stored in /data or does it burn it to the same area of memory as the modem image? Primarily... does it get wiped when you wipe data?

Interesting... I have to say... it is rather difficult considering I can't find much as far as compatibility information for modem images... not with between versions anyways. Meaning... what is compatible and works with what. All I can seem to find out is what stock image they came out of.
JB modems only work with JB touchwiz based roms. All other modems work fine with all other roms. The FI27 modem worked just fine for me on various aosp roms.
The FL24 modem works great for me on AOSP. The leaked JB modems do not work on AOSP. I didn't have great luck with them on stock rooted roms either though (FK23 and FL04).
I would try a stock rooted build like FK23 and run it for a while and see if you get your signal strength back.
Them you can figure out whether it's your radio or Rom.
