This is a ROM guide, it's something that will help stop all the "best rom available" and "what does this rom have" or "what's broken on this rom"?
T-Mobile Samsung S3
If someone wants to write it up, I'll check into it, and add it .
AOSP-ISH 4.2 ROMS
TL;DR update to latest recovery if you plan on sticking with 4.2, every time you update your rom you will get a whole new set of sdcard/0. 4.2 way of handling multiple users for the phone.
More thorough of an explanation!!! 4.2. threads require the latest recovery of your choice (CWM or TWRP) to emulate proper layout for your sdcard (internal). It will setup the internal memory as so (at least for me lol)
/storage/sdcard0=internal
/storage/sdcard1=External
the point of it all was for multiple users to be able to use the device without issues. (more for tablets in a family home that people will share). I believe this is correct with all the formality, at least.
Official CyanogenMod CM10.1
Official CyanogenMod CM10.1: Updated Nightly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778217
Well if you don't know what CM 10 is then you're on the wrong forum. Cyanogen is a form of pure Google experience, with goodies. Close to what you would get from a Nexus device, and more.
Things broken at this point, Blue Tooth audio is borked a little. Every nightly might have issues solved, but another may arise... Just the fun of a nightly build. Check the Changelogs here
ParanoidKANGdroid[4.2.2]
AOKPA:CM10 [OFFICIAL] ParanoidKANGdroid[4.2.2] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164489 Parnoid Android Official with most of the AOKP features, and CM specifically desired feature of Tablet mode.
Read thread for expected issue.
Slim Bean [4.2.2]
Slim Bean [4.2.2] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085828 This is a great rom with its own custom features. Built by a phenomenal team. It has an altered DPI so be aware and look at the screen shots.
This will have the same type of errors you may experience on CM, possibly others as it has its own code as well.
Illusion [4.2.2]
Illusion [4.2.2] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215834 - Is a RootBox base, that Itsmikeramsay ran with, and did his own thing. Gave it a serious make over with ParanoidAndroid settings and Tablet UI features and such, gave it a new layout in settings. Great rom, that is being worked on strenuously to make it the people's rom and make it extremely Daily Driver status. Doesn't like to release a build without some serious testing involved.
4.2.2 issues might be combined issues from other sources all in one, but will be stated in 2nd post by yours truly.
Liquid Smooth[4.2.2]
Liquid Smooth[4.2.2]: Liquid Smooth: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037028
This is another CM pure Google experience. This is Liquid Smooth, has a great community backing them up and supporting people's questions. Myself included, but not great .
Only issues that I know of are the same as 10.1 CyanogenMod. 4.2.2
Look in the Q&A for any help, it has a very detailed feature list of the rom.
RootBox [4.2.2]
[AOKP/CM] RootBox [4.2.2] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2117372
Extremely good rom, more AOKP then CM but not any better, has ROM Control, Lockscreen Shortcuts (Paranoid), Expanded Desktop, Hardware Keys Remapping, Lockscreen Hardware Keys Remapping, Screen Security Features (Unlock options).
Great rom overall, of course will have some minor bugs, be patient and post in the right place (read OP).
AOKP by Jamison904 [4.2.2]
AOKP by Jamison904 [4.2.2]
This is AOKP. You have clock changes, a custom image notification backdrop, on-screen navigation bar. Has the great Rom Control, that makes it a great custom rom. Jamison took over builds when it was abandoned, make sure to give him a thanks guys.
has the same bugs as Cyan/AOSP 4.2.2 builds for the most part.
PAC-Man ROM Nightly Builds
[OFFICIAL][4.2.2] PAC-Man ROM Nightly Builds - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015525 Paranoid Android Settings a very customizable rom, may comes with some little issues, as it is so customizable, things get skipped sometimes. The issues come with how you set things up OP's attention notice "Attention! Because this is a mashup of CM10.1, AOKP MR1, and AOSPA, there are some settings that might conflict with others because they are duplicate. Please keep that in mind before you begin to wonder if there is a bug in this ROM. Thanks."
Just use it to your liking and read before posting.
HellFire[4.2.2]
HellFire[4.2.2]: CM10.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904120
Has CM10 issues which are maybe no bass over Blue Tooth, I'm not sure for sure as I don't use it at all for my phone, other then that it has some edits and some awesome built into it, for a good more attended to, type CM10, rom this is a great choice.
Same issues as 4.2.2 roms
Baked Blackbean [4.2.2]

Dandroid 3.3 Complete AOSP Theme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124754

Another great stock rom base UVDLJA Jellybean, almost positive it is not themed at all. Although stock based themes are flashable in the themes section. It's de-bloated and has all the tweaks for build.prop for speed, network speeds, and battery. Has WiFi tether treve_app, and inverted Google talk (dark theme), has GoogleEars, has Long Press Volume To Skip Songs while the screen is off, has AC!D Audio Engine, some Android 4.2 Apps.
Didn't notice many issues with the rom, at least none posted by people. Let me know if there are some.

Thank you. We needed this. Hope you can update this thread as it goes. Bibles are good for new users. You should have made a third post on rooting and such lol. By the way I seen some of these CM10 roms have not been updated with the newest nightlys ??
There are plenty of threads with all those and they are stickied already. And I noticed that too, Mike and DJ's Illusion 10.1 ROM was updated today.

by the way, call it SGH-T999 Galaxy S III Resource Bible instead, it's the way i was taught, and sounds more official
also, if you wouldn't mind adding StockMOD ROM by Team Inferno in that list as well
here's the art, hope you like it:

Great work dude I had other phones with bibles that made it easier for anyone to find what they want. Also is less Intimading for new users trying to flash a new rom so they can choose which ones they like as oppose to going in the development thread and seeing a whole bunch of roms at once lol. Would love the kernel section and this need to be sticky.

Once it gets "reasonably" finished, we will definitely consider it. I put reasonably in quotes because it will never BE finished as ROMs get updated constantly.
@Mt3g, if you want some help, I would be more than happy. Jsut shoot me a PM and we can bounce some thoughts. I already have some ideas that I'll shoot you later on today, but I like this mucho.
Updated with Kernels, please let me know if anything needs to be changed or updated.
as much as i hate to say this, unfortunately, even with this thread here, there will still and there will always still be new people who come in without any knowledge of this phone, and who don't care to search. they're too lazy to do any reading or flashing, and all they want is to have others hand them things on a GOLD (not silver) platter. just a heads up, so be prepared
Oh I know, been around since the G1, been annoyed since I learned the no nos lol, it comes with being on a forum. The plus is, we can have this available to send those said new guy/gals to this thread, and lock up there thread that they started. Other wise ya you're completely right.

Standard Disclaimer
I take no responsibility if this breaks your phone. You've been warned...but that being said, this won't break your phone...you should be good to go.
What this isn't
- This is not a built from source rom. I did not take hours and hours tweaking source code but give mad props to those who do.
Features
- 5.10.605.9 Base
- Sense 2.1 where necessary
- Uses ADW Launcher, if you prefer another one, you can use that, but it comes with ADW.
- Deodexed
- Debloated
- All sense based widgets have been removed. A lot of Sense Apps have been removed. Important things that are still sense are the camera, contacts/dialer, and Settings (even though they have been themed)
- AOSP apps include Email, GenieWidget, DeskClock, Calendar,
File Manager, Music, and Car Dock
- Zip-Aligned
- Advanced Power Options (4-in-1 Reboot)
- Removed Recent Apps from Notification Menu
- Custom Boot Animation
- Semi-Transparent Notification section
- Activated overscroll glow
- Battery Mod
- AOSP Sliding tab lockscreen (use WidgetLocker for now if you would like others. I am working on getting multiple lock screens now)
- ICS Theme
How to install
1. Download, check MD5 and place on root of sd card
2. reboot into CWR and MAKE A NAND BACKUP!!!!
3. Wipe Data/ Factory Reset
4. Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Flash rom and enjoy
Download

Just curious what does this bring to the table that your sense Rom doesnt? As well as what's the game changer "senseless" has that aosp doesn't have. I have liked senseless roms in the past on my Eris. But that was before it got cm ported.

It seems like this rom is stripped of Sense as much as possible while still maintaining functionality.
For me this is the best of both AOSP and Sense worlds. It is as fast and smooth as an AOSP rom with the stability of a Sense rom. Some things just work better with a Sense framework. For example, with aosp roms, when clicking on "Update All" in the market app, not ALL apps will update, some will fail, and I'm not including the ones with changed permissions. A sense rom will update all apps without a hiccup. Other stuff works better too, can't think of them right now.
The inclusion of the sense camera and dialer is exactly the only 2 things that I wanted carried over from sense.
Great work dhemke17. It reminds me of the "Insensitive" rom for the Inc1.
---------- Post added at 01:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 AM ----------
Great rom, it's my daily driver right now.
Requests/suggestions/notes:
- Hold Volume Up button to skip track when screen is off
- CM style status bar drop down settings
- Runnymede framework, the camera on Sense 3.5 is really nice
- Different font perhaps, the current default looks cool, but hard to read when it's everywhere.
- Include an OC/UV kernel
All of the above is minor stuff. Nothing to complain about really. I look forward to future versions.

All of the above is minor stuff. Nothing to complain about really. I look forward to future versions.

Once I get around to making a Twisted Sense 3.5 rom, expect a version of this rom to follow suit.
The CM style drop down is impossible without the rom being AOSP. This is one of the catches to using a sense-based senseless rom.
Volume Up to skip track will happen lol. Thats an amazing idea and since I use music more than anything on my device, be expecting that.
I will include an OC/UV kernel as soon as I find one that I truly like. I need it to be as reliable as possible because its a real pain to fix "rom" issues when it comes down to the end-user using a half-jacked kernel. I may get into kernel development just for this purpose.
Font...if someone wants to pull the stock font from an AOSP rom, do it, zip it, and I can toss it in an update.zip. Its in the folder /system/fonts/. Just pull the entire folder.

Just curious what does this bring to the table that your sense Rom doesnt? As well as what's the game changer "senseless" has that aosp doesn't have. I have liked senseless roms in the past on my Eris. But that was before it got cm ported.

1) This is has many if not all of the same features that the sense-based rom has, it has just been stripped of as much of the sense UI as possible. This makes the rom itself smaller and it results in less lag from the stock UI. For those who don't like all the flashy widgets and apps that sense brings to the table, but they enjoy everything functioning properly, this is for them.
2) As far as comparing this to AOSP, this rom will not be as fast, but you will not have the bugs seen in AOSP roms. Battery life will not mysteriously drain, everything WILL work as the phone came, just by using as many of the AOSP apps as possible without having the phone being actually AOSP. This is a hybrid rom and as such, you can expect it to be as reliable as sense based roms with an AOSP look and feel.
- Hope this answers your questions.

Just FYI,
The button for switching to the front facing camera doesn't seem to work, or front facing camera doesn't work.
The gallery button on the camera app doesn't do anything. Would it be possible to install the htc gallery app?
USB mass storage doesn't work, the icon doesn't show up at all in the status bar, but USB debugging shows up. But I'm not using the built in kernel.

Install the update for the gallery crap...as for the ffc and USB mass storage, its probably the kernel as mine works fine with the kernel installed.
Is there a way to theme the sense dialer to black with white numbers to match the gb theme.

usb storage should be fixed in dres's kernels as of #21 (its 2.3.3 source with changes to work with 2.3.4+...although new source is out, no one seems to be working on it actively), so my guess would be the individual was using an older kernel that they were previously using with a 2.3.3 rom
Hey guys. I'll be flashing a new rom soon, and I wanted to get your opinions on which of these roms to flash. I've been using Liquidsmooth V1.4 but with Jelly Bean I'm considering flashing a new rom.
I tried AOKP when it was still ICS and I decided to switch to Liquidsmooth because it has all the same features that I use and the rom file is smaller so the battery life it better. Battery life is one of my main concerns so it will be one of the main deciding factors for my rom of choice. Please help me make my decision, and only comment if you have actually used both roms in one of their more recent forms.
Also, please include your kernel, and other info you feel is important enough to include. Thanks
Wrong section buddy. Development only in this section.

There are many threads on what ROM. Use the search feature and why are you still flashing ICS-based ROMs? Jelly Bean is out....
CM10 is probably the most feature riched ROM for JB. Thread also doesn't belong in this forum.
Liquid is one of the stupidest roms out there. They've hacked together so many features from different roms and they've done a sloppy job. Switching the icons of the notification powerwidgets doesn't work when you try from the menu (the option is there, it doesn't do anything - that's why I consider it sloppy - there are buttons that are supposed to "do something" but don't do anything.)
Also, they just took Trebuchet launcher of CM9 and just renamed it to Liquid Launcher. I know it's open source but it's still theft, isn't it?
AOKP is also a rom focusing more on features than stability.
I'd suggest you try CM9 - I found it a lot smoother than AOKP and the rom is consistent and works.
Also... wrong subforum - this **** goes to QA or general, not here.

They did the same thing for rom control and renamed it to liquid control.
Wow they really renamed it to liquid launcher? I mean yeah its open source but at least give credit where it's due and not rename a app and put liquid on it.
+1 for cm9. Although like what I said, take a look at a jelly bean roms. Particularly cm10 its really smooth

I moved from Liquid to AOKP M6 and they're both great.
M6 has given me insane battery life and an awesome balance between features/stability.
Use the 3.1.9.9 Jame Bond kernel and I promise it'l be worth it.
So I may be one of the few people that actually really likes TouchWiz. I have CM9 on my HP Touchpad, which is great, but I feel some of the widgets that TW has are perfect for me.
With that said, I really want JB on my ATT Galaxy s3. Are there any TouchWiz based ROMS for JB out there that are fully stable? I just read today that we may not get JB for a while, which sucks.
Thanks!
Try this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300 It's based off of the T-Mobile leak of Samsung's touchwiz JB with extra features. It's the Milestone 6 version you are looking for.
would you say it's stable enough for heavy daily use? thanks!

I tried it a few times and didn't run into any problems, battery life was decent and ROM overall was VERY fast. I just really like some of the tweaks that the stock ICS Ariel Rom provides that I keep switching back to Ariel. The main features I like are the center clock option, music track change with volume controls and the CRT off animation. If I were to use another ROM it would be that JB leak I listed. For now, just using Ariel ICS rom until the official build comes out for AT&T and Ariel upgrades to JB.
That same developer is making a TW/AOSP Hybrid ROM called "Hannah" just stay subscribed to him, he is an amazing developer and really listens to his users to find and fix any bugs that may be present.

What rom is running on your Sprint s3?
What made you go that way? Currently am using Freegs3 latest build. Using Ktweak
I am wondering which is best. It's been about a month since a rom from Free GS3 I am wondering if i am missing out on new features or is the rom just that damn good that updates are few and far between. I am kinda wanting to keep sbeam and svoice or i would just flash cyanogen.
Whats your guys' take on it?
I am using FreeGS3 myself and it is my favorite rom to date. Clark44 has been busy with school and said that as of 12/21 he will be able to start working on an update. In the meantime he said to check the UpdateMe app for additions in there. I use FreeGS3 because I am not big on color themed roms and just prefer a smooth rom with great battery life and some added features here and there. So my choices with that are basically FreeGS3 or Freeza's Fre3 rom (don't remember off the top of my head what exactly it is called). I have used both roms and they are both excellent.
Aokp cuz it's the best
Also using FreeGS, I've tried CM and AOKP and MIUI, keep coming back to this room for the motion features plus it just works!

Couldn't have said it better. FreeGS3 is the one. Performance, battery life and features are solid.
I'm not interested in flashy coloured ROMS with 3 breasted elves and tooted serpents, etc. Those things irritate me to no end.
freegs3 here too.. main reason was i wanted something stable, upgradable, unthemed, and it had options to NOT install tweaks i didn't want. very stable rom, battery life's great, does everything i need it to do.
Yeah I hate themed ROMs too, not to mention 95% of them look gaudy and make my eyes trickle blood.
I'm running LiquidSmooth for 2 reasons:
1. It's unimaginably smooth, like the UI is consistently at 60 FPS. The only time I ever notice slowdowns is when I scroll to the bottom of my apps from the Play Store while it's loading icons
2. I love the Nav Bar, coming from the Galaxy Nexus, and prior to that the iOS, it really changes how Android works. My last phone before I switched was the EVO 3D, before that the EVO 4G and then the Hero. The menu button was relevant then, but now it's really dumb guessing if an app has a menu or not. Even with the Nav Bar (set to 44p instead of the default 48p) it really doesn't use much of the screen. In fact makes it more comfortable for me to use one handed since I don't have to contort my thumb to the capacitive back button that is usually where my palm rests.
I like FreeGS3, but Samsung's implementation of the Nav Bar sucks, especially without the slide up for Google Now shortcut.
I questioned going back to the Nexus after a couple days with the GS3, because almost all ROMs on that are fully featured and are only without camera, MMS, etc. for a short amount of time, but LiquidSmooth has kept me for the long haul. Over the 3 years I've spent with Android, I never imagined it would be so fluid so soon. Not even CM or AOKP give me the same fluidity.
Currently on The People's Rom. Great options, almost weekly updates. Performance and battery life are great. (Used to run TPR on my OG Epic as well). The Nexus nav bar can be added to most roms by adding a line to the build prop.
I'm running FreeGS3 also. I've tried many of the other roms but keep coming back to it. I don't like the themed roms either, I prefer to just use morphology to change the things I want.

Exactly this, but I'm running Freeza's DeoDeoxed stock ROM. Love everything about TW..!
I run Odex Blue because I like TW functionality and the color blue and inverted apps. Also, steve is very responsive and has some great assistance that allows for fun options on an Odexed Rom.
I've been using the stock rom, I love things that AOKP can do (If you hate touchwiz and Samsung, I would go with AOKP) like emoji and stuff, but I find myself coming back to touchwiz because I like the features they did. They got it right for me so I stuck with it.

Running Team Nocturnal's "Goodness" JB rom.
Using it because there are awesome devs (themers, coders, etc) working together every day on it so updates come regularly. It is stable, fast, smooth, has great battery, and the colors added are just right. It has options galore due to the built in updater so everything from lockscreen to notification bar can be changed. It integrates with Rom Toolbox as well. Has all the compatible 4.2 apps and latest features so it never feels like your phone is being left behind. Support in the thread is great as well due to the dedication of the devs/contributors to this rom.
Has anyone found a way to get the touchwhiz featurs on an aosp rom such as cyanogen. I would love cyanogen but i like sbeam alot
I switch ROMs daily (I need my fix...)

Been using clarks up until 2 weeks ago. Started using jellybombed then. As of 2days go its tpr. Now im in love with the peoples rom.
Its got a stock feel like clarks rom and it uses aroma installer so you can customize it the way you want it.
The biggest difference is the updates. You gotta stay on top. So kenny is da man right now.
I am using CM10 ROM stable. It has run pretty smooth thus far!
I am coming from the Sprint Motorola Photon which was a great phone but Motorblur was very limited. Therefore, flashing a custom ROM was necessary to get the most out of that phone.
In contrast, the S3 is a BEAST just on the stock ROM!
Here's my question. If you have flashed a custom ROM, why did you? Are there any custom ROMs that keep the cool Touchwhiz features and add even more cool stuff and customization?
Touchwiz roms - Jedi Invasion, Serenity, Ultimatum, Jellybam it has touchwiz and trebuchet (cm10)
I installed Jallybam it's a mixture of AOKP, CM10, and Paranoid Android it also comes with the touchwiz launcher.

Thanks. Are these ROMs fully functional or do they contain any known bugs/problems?
Well for the most part i think most of them are i have not had any problems with jellybam which i am currently running as for the other i am not 100% but out of all of those i would probably flash jedi invasion as it seems to be the most stable.
If i were you i would read up on the threads and see because i could be wrong as i have no experience with them. Besides what i've read and some video reviews on youtube.
Agreed, I've started my research. I've heard a lot about those two ROMs. What made you personally choose jellybam over Jedi Invasion?

I chose jellybam because it has a lot customization options it's a mixture of AOKP, Paranoid Android (which i don't really know how to use all that well but it's still there) and CM 10.0. The developer updates the rom pretty often i've been running it for a little over a week with 3 updates so the support is great. They also focus on stablility, i've never ran into any problems. Also the rom comes with gapps( i think thats pretty cool) Plus i never really cared for Touchwiz i prefer the stock jellybean look and jellybam gives you both options. And im getting good battery life. Whereas Jedi Invasion is more like a stock rom with added extras. Not to take away from the rom though i hear it's very stable battery life is good etc. People who love Touchwiz seem to like it.
Thank you for posting those links. I LOVE saving time!
With Jellybam, can you still swipe your hand across the screen to take a screenshot, hold up the phone to your face to call the displayed contact, etc?
no i don't think so i just tried to and nothing happened maybe i did it wrong
jellybam is not a touchwiz-based rom, it's aosp based and therefore does not have the palm-swipe gesture.

one thing i personally like about Touchwiz based ROM's are the features samsung brings. for example Sbeam or WiFi Direct is beastly on TouchWiz. with ROM's like CM10, i cant send large files up to and slightly past a gig to other devices with the same capabilities. also, you can share multiple things like apk's. idk, maybe its just me lol

i too, am looking for a TouchWiz ROM, but based from AT&T's version.
i've tried the ports from other carriers and they just didn't work very well in my opinion.
from your list:
* Jedi Invasion, says it's built from UVDLJA, but i don't know what carrier or other information that is.
* Serenity, tried it, didn't like it.
* Triune is UCALH1 based, isn't that AT&T ICS?
* LoserROM, using right now, but i'm going to be switching.
so far, i've located the following ones:
* Ultimatum
* Intergalactic
* [ROM] AT&T JellyBean UCDLK3 {Completly Stock, Custom / Addons: updated 12-28-12}
i've tried searching, but are there any other ones i should be aware of?
Are you using loser rom 1.7 (the latest)? It's quite amazing and made for AT&T.
Jedi Invasion Rebuilt ROM (the latest) is very stable and FAAAST!

I highly recommend trying out CSROM. I've tried a bunch and I'm sticking with this one. It's very stable and extremely lightweight - it has an AROMA installer that let's you choose what you want installed so you can go as barebones or as bloated as you like.
