Are your phones connecting to the same network frequencies / APNs / whatever?
I'd rather get one bar of LTE signal than four bars of UMTS signal...

Which modem are you running? Try a different one.

I wish I could get one bar of LTE. Make me sad that there are no plans for my area any time soon, but Verizon has it here. Makes me think hard about switching.

3G/4G Menu

Where is the hidden menu for the 4g preferred setting? Isn't there a hidden setting menu. My phone tried to stay on edge. My little brother has a blaze and is right next to me and his is on 4g and mine is on edge....
I still have IMEI so that isnt the issue. :good:
go to the play market and download phone info
Should it be set to gsm/cdma auto(Prl)?
It was on gsm auto (Prl).
It seems since I flashed a Rom and then did my Nan restore to stock rooted it preferred edge over 4g.
Sent from my SGH-T999
no if you want it to prefer 4g ovr edge then you have to have it set to wcdma preferred. that's tmobile's 4g! and then when it isn't available it will simply go to edge. that's definitely your best bet.

I did that now. It still was sticking on edge. I then switched it to wcdma only and it switched right to 4g. Thing is on edge it had full bars. 4g only two. I wonder if that's why it stayed on edge. Anyone know?

try wcdma preferred. It helps stay on 4g. There may not be 4g where you are. Might want to check on that.

So I did this same thing and it's telling me I'm on 3G.
When I was on completely stock ROM out of the box, I was on "4G" all the time.
Now, every ROM I've flashed to test out which one I like, it displays 3G BUT whenever I click on a link it switches to H+. Then when that link is done loading it switches back to displaying 3G. Am I correct in assuming that it is supposed to do this?
Edit - After reading the NEXT post while I was doing my search, it seems that I was correct. :]

correct you are. while It's accessing data it goes to H+
I have my set to wcdma preferred. Keep in mind this setting might use more battery because it's constantly looking for four g signal rather than two g or three g

If I'm not mistaken, on stock it will always show 4G, even on 3G.
A lot of custom roms change this so it tells the truth. That's why you see 3G or H/H+.

Are you inside a building? Bell's LTE penetration is....enough said.
Did you get LTE with stock rom? If so it could be a setting in the rom somewhere. I also have troubles with LTE when in a building (if thats the case)
I've been outside a building and still don't get lte in the kitchener Guelph area where lte is supported I also changed the settings to gsm/lte but still never see 4G on the top

Go on your network setting and select WCDMA ONLY if you are able...
This is what the tech told me for my LG and since yesterday got 1 drop connection and not 10 a day!!!

I'm on Virgin Mobile Canada (Bell) and was having issues getting 4G (LTE). I believe it was posted on the CM10 thread but I reposted this as someone else was asking the same thing, but if you can't get 4G working even with the correct APN, go to your dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This will take you to the phone testing menu. Tap Phone information, scroll down to the selectable list which may say CDMA or GSM/CDMA. Change that to LTE/GSM or LTE/GSM/CDMA and that should get it working again.
This worked for me on CM10, but AOKP should be close enough that this may help you out.
I'm on Att but the 9-8 build of aokp defaults to wcdma preferred on boot up..I know I live in an LTE area so what I did was *#*#4636#*#* then choose LTE only to force it into LTE coverage after that choose LTE/GSM/CDMA prl auto then or LTE should stick..for me if I chose LTE/GSM/CDMA first it would still default to wcdma...hope this helps...keep in mind you have to perform this after every reboot until its changed by task if it ever is in future builds.

Hmmm, that's interesting. On CM10, I don't need to change that on every reboot. Not even after a dirty flash. Just after a clean flash.
I had the same problem on rogers in Vancouver also running cm10 make sure you change your APN to the lte version also where it says APN type I put default. Another thing that may confuse you is that there is no lte icon on cm10 it says 4g instead

[Q] LTE coverage on MIUI??

I have the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 android version 4.1.2 on MIUI.us 3.1.11. Everything is working fine, but I have noticed slightly slower speeds and I no longer see my LTE signal icon in the status bar? How can I tell if I still have LTE coverage? Is it still there, but just not being displayed anymore? Please advise.

An image doesn't change much, I could swap it to change 2G (E) and it would still give me the same speed.. You can use speedtest app to see if you still get the same speed.
So I shouldn't be to concerned if the LTE icon is no longer being displayed? It was very helpful to have it, let's you know where the best coverage for LTE is at! Wonder why it's not being displayed anymore after rooting??

Can you tell me what is displayed? Or even better, could you post a screeny when on data? (hold vol down + power to take a screenshot).
And like I mentioned before, it's an image. Nothing else. The only way to know if using a speedtest.
Att markets there HSPA+ as 4G that's why on stock the 4G there speed is slow

Umm that's H+, a bit slower than LTE. Go check in your APNs if you're on the LTE one. Also, make sure your network mode has the 3 options (2G, 3G, 4G).
Yes, all that you mentioned checks out. Just never are my LTE symbol after installing both CM10.0 and MIUI.us.

Maybe try a different modem. I'm not sure why it would keep you from using LTE if your APN and network mode are correct.

[Q] LTE = H+ for I9505 roms?

I was wondering if the H+ symbol I get for the Omega rom means it is LTE? There are times when it says E, 3G and 4G as well. I'm assuming the H+ is when it is on LTE here in Chicago.

I Would like to add, on TMO rom it seemed to me like they are marking H+ as 4G as well, which on normal roms (i9505) they are not.
i had 2 Galaxy S4 in my hand, one with TMO rom and one with i9505 rom. (With TMO sim in both)
the TMO showed up 4G and the i9505 showed H+
but when looking inside the debug menu, they both were in H+ channel,
speedtest showed the same speed as well.
so what i think is that TMO is "Cheating" by stating "i'm on 4G network" which should be only LTE,
but you are on 3.5G network (H+)

you could also correct that by just changing the build.prop lines to the tmobile values and you get your normal icons back for 4G and 4GLTE. I did this since I am running Omega as well.

I honestly do not know that this will work on an AOSP rom. My bet is that they probably wouldn't- and if you're running an AOSP rom built for the M919 you'd already have the correct build.prop values:
ro.product.model= SGH-M919
ro.product.name=jfltetmo
ro.product.device=jfltetmo

Otherwise there are several options on Play, just search for build prop.

Tmobile's 4g has always been hspa+ They are just starting to roll out LTE. AT&T did this also. They billed hspa+ as 4g, and then rolled out LTE later, which they currently market to compete with verizons 4g lte. Gsm carriers were able to debut hspa+ faster then verizon was able to debut LTE for the first time, giving them a leg up on the fastest network for a short time.

Its not an issue. AOSP based ROMs show 3g when data isn't active and H+ when it is. stock ROMs incorrectly label H+ as 4g.

So it isn't a matter of me having signal or not? It's just going to say H+ when actually using data and 3g when im not?

H+ is not LTE that is correct. On AOSP ROMs LTE is displayed as 4g. If you are seeing H+ then you are either not in an LTE reception area or your APN is wrong.
