Battery with problem - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hey, when my battery gets low 60% + - (i didn't get to mesure yet), it drains out. The phone reboot itself and then i recharge, the battery logo shows and start from zero.
I should Wipe Battery Stats from CWM? Or buy a new one?

This seems to be a fairly common issue with the W's battery.....I'm currently on my 3rd and the phone is only a year old. You shouldn't need to wipe battery stats unless you flashed a ROM recently and didn't wipe the stats afterwards.
Is the battery beginning to swell?
Does the phone switch off if you use camera with flash?
Are you beginning to see a shorter life between charges?
Does the battery get unusually warm under normal use?
All of this points to a failing battery.....only one option....eBay or Amazon.....

Check the forums, find a way to recalibrate battery.
From my experience, the battery should be calibrated once in awhile(every 3-6 month), especially if you're the type of 5 minutes charger type person. Means that you charge when you remember and does not wait till it gets full.
But then extremely slight swelling is normal for aged batteries. Unless you can obviously see it bloat.
(remove battery, spin it on a flat surface, if it spins real smoothly, change it. )
Experience working in a tech shop taught me that.

battery isue with JB

strange thing is going on. my battery dropped form 50 to 17 %, than from 30 to 9% ect. before that i took out battery because i wanted to see something.
after that. battery life is getting worse. usually i could get about 4-4.5 hours of screen time. but now only 2-3 hours.
what is going on with my battery
Check your apps and install BetterBatterStats. It could be rogue apps not letting the phone go to sleep or making it work more than it should.

I am having similar issues (Jellybean Vicious Jellybean4.1.1 AOSP, faux kernal). I can literally see the battery percentage go down a percent every 30 seconds or so when i am using my phone / surfing web / streaming music.
Cant post in the main forum now - any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is often the kernal with the new JB roms. In an older build of Franco's kernal if you opened the camera when you first started the phone it would fix battery drain. I suggest a new kernal! (Franco's runs great on mine! ). If this doesn't work you might want to recalibrate your battery. This app works great, search "batterycalibration" on the play store. It will delete your battery data so your phone will charge to an actual 100%. Hope this helps!

There is so much wrong about this post its not even funny.
All kernels are pretty much equal. It all depends on how you tune it. You cannot calibrate your battery... all that does is delete battery stats. Which again DOES NOTHING.

My N7 running JB gets great battery life, but the GNex on JB is crap when it comes to battery. I'm often out of battery by 3-4pm in the afternoon.

I've experienced crap battery since moving moving to JB as well. Same kernel and I can only manage 3.5 hours of display over like 8 hours. On Wi-Fi. Whereas on ICS same kernel as JB I was getting 5 hours. Its not just this guy.

I picked up a spare battery over the weekend (identical 1750mAh Samsung batteries), and today I ran the first one from 100% down to below 30%, and swapped. When I arrived home, I popped in the first one to charge it, only to find it is at 58%. I guess the principle is to not pay too much attention to the exact number, and to keep all my batteries as highly charged as possible...
I don't seem to have any rogue apps. The phone appears to sleep very well when I'm not actively using it.

If your battery randomly drops when you reboot your phone do this :
Let it die completely until it turns off, keep it turned off and then charge it completely (usually overnight ) and then turn it back on and it'll show you a very accurate battery percentage

[Q] "Android OS" Battery Life

Well, once upon (a greater) time for my phone, the battery life was phenomenal. I would take it off the charger at 6AM, and with moderate use, still be at about 50% when I got home at around 8PM. Now, I can't even have the phone off of the charger for a few hours, because "Android OS" eats my battery. I went from 100-60 in like 3 hours off of the charger with the screen OFF.
I've had various CM9 and CM10 installs, and it seems like they're what started the bad battery life. I used Mobile ODIN to flash back to EL29, and flashed the EL29 modem .zip in CWM, and the battery life is STILL ****ty. What do you think it could be?

Okay, so what can I do to LEARN what it is and fix it? I have no idea how to figure these things out.
I have found turning off all GPS options helps immensely. Maps is always waking the phone every 5 minutes.

It's not an app, so don't bother telling him to look for an app running in the background. And it's not a bad battery or modem. I ran Gingerbread for quite some time before going to ICS and Android OS should be one of the smallest consumers on that battery usage list. It only happens with ICS and JB, most likely a kernel thing. It happened to me quiiiiite a bit, in fact in the few months I've been running ICS/JB Android OS has always been on the top of the list despite my phone saying it's in deep sleep. Not sure what the deal is with it to be honest, but I don't think there's a way to fix it.
I'm on aokp and my android os is at 6% never goes over 14%. Use lightflow disable all led notifications in direct/accessibility mode and reboot let it go through a full charge cycle, wipe battery stats, profit

How do you know? Do you have his phone? No, you don't. I'm on ff18 and I get 14 to 18 hours daily with 4-5 hours screen on time.
Granted I use the Kuban kernel, but it is possible to reduce Android OS usage quite easily.
he could also have a badbattery. If it is swollen that almost always indicates a bad battery.

Swollen battery is ALWAYS a bad battery. They swell when a cell begins to or has ruptured inside the housing and can do some serious damage if the housing bursts. At temps above 130 with a swollen battery the chance of a full housing breach goes up 70% at 160 its almost guaranteed to breach and at 180-190 it will burst causing somewhat of an explosion. Exposed batteries not sandwhiched inside a device actually produce a pretty large fireball when the burst at those temps and the housing does enough damage it could be fatal. I've burst quite a few using a hotplate and sitting the battery on it inside an acrylic aquarium and letting it heat til failure. If your battery is swollen stop use immediately and get it replaced. You can end up with serious injuries and if it bursts while you're talking on it possible death and at the minimum severe chemical and/or thermal burns  not fun

Dude download Better Battery Stats and see what's really eating up your battery.
I'm running on Phantom's ICS and I been tweaking it so much, that I want to get the best Android experience EVER!
Also try v6 Supercharger, that also helps with battery life.
try freezing some of apps that you may not use, or better yet follow this guide:

I am so incredibly happy! I haven't had time to go through all the info in the links you posted, but instead took the cheap and easy way out and simply froze Google Maps using Titanium Backup. My battery life was awesome today!!!! It could still use improvement, but I finally feel like I'm making significant progress. Yes, I'll go through the posts you linked more thoroughly when I have time and I'll work on disabling maps in startup, but for now, I can feel confident that my battery will last all day. Whew!

Battery not charging past 82%! Help!

Hi,
I bought my GSM galaxy nexus about 2 months back. I unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed stock JB, with franco.kernel. It worked fine for maybe a month. Then, charging the battery started maxing out at lower than 100%. Now, it does not ever charge beyond 82-83%. (in battery settings, it shows "82% - Not Charging" even with the stock chrger plugged in. I also charged using USb, the iPhone adapter, and another samsung charger.
I put this 82% charged battery in my friends GNex, and it showed 96% on his phone. It even charged to 100% without any hassles.
I put his phone's battery in my nexus. On his phone, it read 60%, on mine it showed 25%.
so, my phone's battery reading is off by almost 20-30%.
i wiped the phone FULLY, installed CM10, installed stock ROM, stock kernel, but nothing seemed to change this behaviour.
Any ideas which might help me, or do i send it to google? (which will be a lot of trouble since i dont live in the US).
Thanks.
Charge it fully ( in your case to 82%). Then boot into cwm recovery and try to clear the battery stats.

Battery stats has absolutely nothing to do with it. Charging his phone at only 4pm while having it gave down on an espresso colored end table would yield the exact same result.
No info related to battery charge is contained in that file. It is only a list of apps that have run on battery. Nothing more. Furthermore, the os periodically purges the file on its own.

yes, i believe it does (It still gets me through the day, like before). I think it stops charging because the battery gives a feedback of being full, just dunno why the phone thinks its at that low percentage..
could juice defender have something to do with it?

I am unable to anything that can fix it. I have tried wiping battery stats (knowing it's useless), drained my battery and recharged, full wiped etc.
The reason i'm asking about juice defender is that i switched JD on some time back (on extreme mode). The battery was at 66% when i unplugged it and put JD on.
Since then, the battery reading has come UP to 70% (no charger connected, and it even shows discharging in the battery settings page).
I'm thinking i'll charge to whatever level it allows, then leave it for a day with juice defender on, maybe it'll go up to 100%.
Sorry that I cannot help you, but I've seen a lot of threads about this. I think you should search for them and see if there's an answer. I think that's the best choice until somebody comes up with something
silly question.. have you tried another battery? the problem could be the battery itself.
You have obviously a reading problem not a battery problem. Something got messed up somewhere. I recommend wipe clean your phone and bring it back to stock. If it works, start toying with it again, if not you are ready for warranty exchange

Thanks for the replies.
1. As i said, i put my battery in another Gnex, reading was much higher, and charged to 100%. I put my friends battery (at 60% on his GNex) in my phone, it showed 25%. Not a battery issue, i believe..
2. I wiped FULLY (including system, data, cache, dalvik, battery stats. everything except my storage) and went back to a rooted stock JB rom and kernel. no change. so i switched back to CM10.
So.. i guess hardware issues?
Also, could you help me out by giving a link with this problem elsewhere, i cant seem to find one.. i'll keep searching though. Thanks..
I know this is over a month old but I was wondering if anything has changed on the status of your Nexus. I have been having similar problems, only charges to a max of 63% though then dies in under 5 hours. I have tried a couple things you listed like going back to stock ROM, trying other batteries, pulled SIM card and battery out and just left it on a desk for 5 hours.
Did you end up having to send it back to Samsung?
I had already faced same problem in my samsung grand prime device
I had the same problem with my Meizu (!?) phone. The solution was to turn the phone off and charge it. It would pretty quickly go over that fixed % and to 100% full.

[Q] [Poll / Question]Has your battery died since ICS update circa FI03/FI27?

Hello,
so I got the bloated battery issue myself, and had to order another battery. I have seen many threads pop up in the last month concerning this issue, on here, androidcentral, and even the sprint forums!
There doesn't seem to be a unified thread, so I would like to try to get one going. Sprint/Samsung probably doesn't know how widespread this issue is becoming. I think its a more serious problem than we think, and isn't relagated to a few random people. Myself and my friend, who both got our phones around the same time, who both run the same build of ICS started exhibiting the following issues:
1. Insane and unpredictable battery life drops. I'm talking 88% while browsing the web, and then instant reboot and phone is down to 10%.
2. Screen flickers as if auto brightness can't make up its mind, instant reboot.
3. LOS, then reboot.
4. Any intensive apps: camera, gps, sometimes even just streaming music, causes the phone to lock up, pressing home does nothing, may even require reboot.
5. Removing battery, and then letting phone sit for 1-2 minutes, then putting it back in an powering up brings battery level back up to stable temporarily.
6. Battery Bloat, and inevitable: permadeath. Can't hold a charge.
This seems to me to be a consistent occurence along with recent builds of ICS.
I would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't plan on keeping this phone much longer (I ordered a Nexus 4, still in order limbo tho), but it could be of help to the community if we know the how's and why's.
Questions:
- Are you experience these symptoms?
- If so, when did they start, give a specific build number?
- Have you experienced battery bloat? (battery seems to be slightly expanding outward, not completely flat)
- Do you keep your phone on the charger overnight? (This may or may not be related, but maybe a recent ICS change disables something that stops the battery from overcharging)
Interesting! My wife had this exact issue on her E4GT unrooted FI27. Eventually, the phone would no longer boot. She took it back to Sprint yesterday. The battery was bad, they tried another battery and the phone still wouldn't boot. She's receiving a new phone today.
She told me when she was at the Sprint store, there was a guy there with an Evo with exactly the same problem. I told her it was just an amazing coincidence and not an Android issue... obviously I was wrong!
I am on FI27 stock rooted with a newer battery than my wife's, the only thing I have noticed is that my charge sometimes drops CONSIDERABLY after I reboot the phone... now this has me worried! Her battery was bloated. We both charge overnight.
Obviously, this is an issue that you can't ignore, because it can fry your phone (as it did my wife's).
Yes!! The insane battery dropped started happening like a month ago. That's all that was happening though. Just random battery drops. I thought it was the ROM at the time. The phone would freeze up, reboot and the battery would be 30%+ lower.
About a week ago I started experiencing the craziness. Phone rebooting, flickering screen, pretty much everything you've stated. And yes I've been using the latest modems. My battery can also spin like a top. For a very long time I might add. Some other dude with a regular Qwerty phone has a battery that can spin, but it only spins for like 3 seconds. His phone is pretty old.
My phone is about a year old and the battery spins for ever. I guess this is a good test to see how bloated your battery is, since I can't really look at it and tell.
I do charge over night since my phone would die over night. I don't think my phone will fry right now since my phone is on the charger and the battery temperature is at 66 Fahrenheit (18 Celsius). Ordered a new battery hoping for the best. And I will be using ROMs that are based on the FF18 with the new battery.
first power button broke, now battery is taking a **** upon itself, exact same issues
Check this out... as I said, after my wife had been having this issue for a couple weeks on her stock E4GT, on Thursday her phone would never boot past the boot screen. She took it into Sprint on Friday and they determined the battery was bad. They tried a new battery, still wouldn't get past the boot screen. They ordered her a new phone 'overnight' which is supposed to arrive Monday. She is going into withdrawal, so for the hell of it I plugged her phone in, booted to stock recovery and did a factory reset... reboot and the phone (apart from the bad battery) works perfectly. My wife asks why they wouldn't have done that at the Sprint store? What a bunch of idiots!

Do look in what forum you are replying to before replying. This is the E4GT forum. NOT Sony!
This is a specific problem related to E4GT. I think its the characteristics of this problem that make it unique, the instantly dead battery, the battery bloating, and something to do with recent ICS updates. I am hypothesizing that it has to do with battery overcharging that somehow got introduced to recent builds of ICS that is causing this.
I just got my new battery in yesterday, and sure enough, it fixed all of these problems. It's an Anker battery, and, although I am no expert on batteries, its a really nice third party battery, and feels weightier than the stock Samsung battery. Now I'm worried that ICS will destroy this battery as well, so I am being very conservative when it comes to charging.
I was having the same issue with my last E4GT running FI27 STOCK ROOTED.
1) LOS to reboot then low battery from full
2) using apps like spotify, maps and voice search on 3g would also cause it to reboot to low battery
3) screen flickers (like cm10 flicker) and then reboots

Has anyone had their battery die after upgrading to ICS when their phone was less than 8 months old?

Pesonally, I agree... my belief is that this is a battery age issue. Now, I won't say that the battery should age so quickly or that it should start bloating, but no one has had this issue with a newish battery have they (say, newer than 6 months)?

I dunno man. I have had an Epic 4G, an HTC Evo, and evne HTC Hero that I kept for quite a while and their batteries never bloated and exhibited these kind of software based issues. Sure batteries degrade over time, but it's almost like the software was glitching out when it was killing my battery and causing strange reboots and lock ups, not to mention instant drain.
new battery bloating within 2 weeks

Hi there, first post here, I was just browsing the web for help with this issue and found this thread. My galaxy s2 eg4 also had the bloated battery after ics update, it was shutting off randomly, flickering, etc. I replaced the battery first part of december 2012, and within 2 weeks it had started doing the same thing again, but not as often. Sure enough, brand new, previously flat battery was slightly bloated. It has gradually gotten worse, so I just purchased 2 new anker batteries to see if they fare better. When I changed the battery and took out my one month old battery, it was quite bloated and spun for quite a while.
Hoping it does better with the anker batteries, but only time will tell.
Batteries bloating has nothing to do with ICS or the software. Its a heat issue and weak cell walls inside the OEM batteries. The cell walls barely meet requirements to make the 1800mah cells fit in a 1500mah size housing and they don't hold up well to high temps. as the battery reaches 120°F+ the solid state chemicals used in the cells begin to expand, a normal battery's cell walls can withstand the slight increase in pressure but the thinner walls in these batteries begin to crack and/or separate from the housing and then the chemicals can mix. Once the chemicals begin to mix the reaction causes the air inside the battery to expand and swells the housing out as it has nowhere to escape.

I have the same problem l. Even with a 3800mah battery. It will start.acting up and if it gets better it will all of sidden go up to 70% or more, and i know it takes a couple of hours to get it to 70% from being dead at 15% or less.

I have been using the anker battery for over two weeks and no issues, longer battery life, etc. So far, so good. :fingers-crossed:
Most definitely a battery issue, especially when your phone is a year old or close to it, I don't know what was up with ics but that sure put hurting on the Epic Touch.
I have two Epic's and they are both 14 months old and in Dec they both got new batteries, an Anker and a original Samsung and they are both running like new again. Ones on GB and the other is on JB roms.
They both experienced the bloted battery syndrome and they also experienced ics, for a short period before going back to GB and now JB. Ics was a catalyst for the batteries to fail the way they did, not to mention that charging and discharging a battery for a year or so is going to also take a battery to its limits, especially when you plug it in overnight. At present we have no issues with our Epic's and we are just going to wait it out for the GS4 to get here before we upgrade.
EViL is on the right track even thought he likes to break stuff.

Battery Calibration[Root][No recovery][APP][02/05/13]

BATTERY CALIBRATION
Hi!
As we know when we install a new rom we sometimes have battery drain or when we flash a new kernel etc..... what is this?? this means that your battery goes to 0% very quickly!
The normal steep is goes to recovery and wipe battery stats!!
but what i do if in recovery don't appear something like wipe battery stats??
simple!! be sure that your nexus is completely charged, download this app ,, tap on battery calibration !! (after that charge your nexus without break)and congratulations.... buy a beer and make a party!!
I don't made this app.... just share it....
i will upload the link in a note pad... why?? simple.... i can't put links!!!
There is no need for battery calibration. Just discharge to 0% then charge back to 100% and you should be good to go.

It doesn't even need to be to zero.
Everyone should go to batteryuniversity.com and read the articles on cycling and charging li-Ion batteries. Then you will be able to make sense of conflicting advice on batteries.

mmmmm thanks for the page....
The myth of wiping battery stats was thoroughly debunked almost a year and a half ago. It is a 100% true statement that neither this app nor wiping battery stats in recovery has ever affected anyone's battery life or battery indication in any way, shape, or form.
Want to know why battery drains after flashing a new rom or kernel? Hint- it has absolutely nothing to do with incorrect battery stats- totally disregarding the fact for a moment that batterystats.bin has absolutely nothing to do with battery charge indication.. After flashing a new rom, your device is actually using more battery than usual as accounts are set up and synced. Likewise, after flashing a new kernel, it takes a short amount of time for the kernel to "settle."
If you still believe the myth that battery stats need to be wiped every now and again, there's an even easier way to do it than wiping in recovery or using some snake oil app... charge your device to full or near full and then unplug it from the charger. Voila- you've just successfully wiped battery stats!

This.
OP, stop posting nonsense. Seriously.
Strange battery behavior
It's actually odd, my battery started getting stuck at 100% like a week ago or so, after 11 hrs standby time and 30 mins screen-on time, it doesn't even drop 1%. However, it shuts down normally at 1%. I actually tried so many things to fix this, i opened the back cover and pulled the battery out, i let it run dead and charge it all the way up, but it just seems to like that 100% mark. Since it actually shuts down at 1%, i wanted to make sure it's completely dead, so i booted into recovery and oddly, with max brightness in twrp, it took about 15 mins for the device to completely shut down.
Any ideas what might fix this?

Bear in mind that you optimally do not want to discharge the battery to the point of shutdown. Doing so shortens its lifespan, and can trigger the N7 to go into a hibernation mode on order to protect the battery from permanent unrecoverable damage due to a deep discharge.

I do know that, I just wanted to try out every thing that could fix this annoying bug.
seriously, battery calibration is for nothing and waste your data and time to download it..

i have a question....... i discovered this app because mi battery was giving me problems..... for example...... it charges very quickly .... and when i had mmmmm 15% my tablet just shutdown....... when i use this app, i charged my battery to 100% and i "calibrate" my battery ,and my battery works perfect again, now my tablet shutdown in 0% or something like that..... so that could be called calibration.... o what?
thanks!!

The app has nothing to do with it as the only thing it clears is the list of processes that have operated on battery since the last full or near full charge.
The only "calibration" that an end user can perform entails a complete discharge/charge cycle. This resets the flags for the battery's internal fuel gauge.

Is there a fix for stuck battery percentage? My tablet was working fine and all of a sudden I realized it was being stuck at 100% regardless of how much I used it.

This is all the recalibration the device needs.
Naja is 99% correct. It's not the only calibration you can do (you can wipe stats), but it's the only one you should need to do.
batteryuniversity.com has a couple of good articles on the care and feeding of Li-Ion batteries. There is a lot of less than accurate info that floats around about batteries. The above site is a good way to learn the difference.

Wiping stats does nothing in terms of calibration.
