My brain hurts!
I don't really want to ask my question, as I just know it has been answered somewhere else, but I'll be darned if I can find a coherent enough solution for my brain!
I have a Vodafone One X in UK.
Currently it has Android Revolution HD 9.4.1
Android version 4.0.4
HTC Sense 4.1
I want to revert to stock so I can receive the OTA jellybean update and start from scratch - but I am having difficulty.
I thought I could just flash the backup I made when I installed Revo HD (using ClockworkMod recovery 5.8.4.0), but when I do this, it just loops into a reboot just as it is almost booted.
I have tried wiping the caches.
I have also scanned XDA and Google, but am getting bamboozled.
I tried to follow [TUT] Disaster Recovery - How to recover from nearly everything [Updated 28/04/2012] but that lead me to needing the RUU for my phone but the only link I could find required a pay-for subscription.
Does anyone know of a good simple step by step guide to reverting to stock in a very simple way?
I appreciate any assistance.

Hi guys, I'm trying to Root/Custom ROM my Hero but I'm getting confused with what I do and don't need to do and what order.
I have a GSM (UK) Generic Hero currently running the latest HTC update (2.73.405.5).
I know I have to flash a custom recovery image: Here
then I need to flash my Custom ROM from there.
But, the question I'm not sure, do I need to do the GoldCard thing in this forum or similar or just go straight to patched recovery tutorial?
Thanks.

Yeh I have been looking at that, I was just confused as to whether it needed GoldCard first or not.

EDIT: Flashed MoDaCo 3.1 with no flash, it kept everything as it was before, I noticed one thing though, a whole load of apps always seem to be running when I open Avanced Task Manager, like ShopSavvy is there twice (I havn't even ran the app since i restarted the phone from the system crash just a minute ago) is this normal? should all these apps really be running all the time?
Considering reflashing with wipe.

I hope you did a backup of your stock Rom, and if you did just restore.
My suggestion is to stay rooted and run a stock rom with A2SD

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13381205
So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

I was waiting for this too, and now it seems like we can downgrade and root our devices. What could worst case scenario be, if something went wrong?
Have you ever rooted a device before?

Thank you so much.
Now moving on to flash another rom, and try and figure the whole fing about the radio out..
I successfully downgraded and rooted my desire hd 2.42.415 at last. Thanks a million JSLEnterprises. You are awesome
Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!
I can see that in /HTC ACE TOOLKIT
is a splash screen changer, and a boot animation changer.. how do i use them?
Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong

Hi guys.
I have a HTC One X and I received the update for Android 4.1.1. My phone is already rooted.
But every time I hit the update button, it restarts and goes to ClockworkMod Recovery.
I don't know what else to do.
Ps: my HBOOT version is 1.12.

Can't you just read around before starting a thread with a common problem most people already solved in various threads? Flash the goddamn stock recovery, which you woulda done if you freaking read.
Sent from my faster than SGS3 HOX.
I had the same problem.
After some research and a few faulty tests I resolved the problem in 2 hours.
- check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376 coz you have to update but links are broken
So the easiest way is this little Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
- I've used the boot.img from here http://www.android-hilfe.de/custom-roms-fuer-htc-one-x/315168-rom-diskussion-android-revolution-hd-jb-17-1-sense-4-07-12-12-a.html
I hope you've a backup of your data coz your HOX goes back to factory reset.
Good luck

Hi, thank you for the response.
I have a few questions:
1) How did you make your backup? I used the Titanium, but I think it only works when the device is rooted. Not sure, I can't remember.
2) I got the boot.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 since the link you sent is in German. I also found the required file Unlock_code.bin in my computer. So I believe it's missing the Jelly Bean ROM. Where can I find it?
There were some options like:
Android Revolution HD - by Mike1986.
BINDROID XTC - by DutchDanny
Blade - by theDroidfanatic
HTC One MaXimus - by Football
InsertCoin - by Baadnewz
OrDroidX - by Shnizlon
Renovate - by mwilky
SkyDragon - by dragonesdenano
But all of them are unofficial, am I not correct?
3) Still, I'm a bit lost. Firstly, I have to update to HBOOT. And after install the Jelly Bean?
Hoping for your patience, I thank you again in advance.

Ask all of your questions in here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714
and then this can be locked to keep the forum tidy. The questions your asking show you haven't read much about it. I'm not having a go its just so you don't do anything daft and end up with a brick.
Basically backup your stuff and find the correct ruu for your phone. Then relock bootloader and then run ruu. Once you've done that your phone should update fine through ota to jelly bean.

I tried to follow the steps written in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 but it gets to a point I can't go any further because there are some informations missing or some info that you think I should already know about them.
I got a message that I could upgrade my system to 3.14.401.27, and there is a option to select install now. After selecting it, the system automatically reboots and gets to a screen of Clockworkmod, showing also the message "finding update package... E: unkown volume for path [etc etc etc]. installation aborted."
I though the intallation would be fully automatic (with the hboot also). I don't know if it's a issue with the clockworkmod, related the error message.
I'm not trying to install a version non-official of android. It seems to be the official release made by HTC.
Yes, I tried following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714 but still no ideas.
With all due respect, I don't understand why there are some people who expect the users to run through all the messages that already exist in the forum. We are talking about thousands of messages. I am also a member of a e-mail group for pc hardware technical issues and I have no problem of re-explaining things there.
I don't understand why people lose their time to answer me here by not answering my questions or clarifying things.
I don't want to be rude or something like that, but if you (no matter who) are not going to write something helpful towards my questions, please don't lose your time by complaining about my questions (just ignore me). I personally prefer receiving no answer than this.
You need stock recovery.
Greetings,
I realize there are a lot of threads about updating your phone but I'm a little confused as to which guide I should be using.
I am on a stock, rooted, S-off'd, international rom flashed HTC 10. I'm still on 1.53.617.5, and would ideally like to get to the newest version.
I appreciate any assistance.

That link will only update your firmware. You need to update your rom as well. You can use this guide that I wrote to get completely updated. Stage 2 is really only for people getting the error described in the thread when trying to get the OTA, so there's a chance you can skip that part.
Or, if you don't mind wiping your internal storage, RUU is the easiest and cleanest way to update. You can get the 1.80 RUU here and then update to 1.91.
