Hello,
Since i don't have 10 posts yet and can't post this in the original thread i'm asking it here.
I'm using the Domination CM10 ROM and i'm on hboot version 0.94.
Should i upgrade to another version or is it wise to stay?
And if i should upgrade, what are the best steps to take?
I know how to flash roms and boot, however i'm not sure how to upgrade hboot.
Thanks
Stay. Support for JB HBoots is sketchy until the JB kernel source code is released.

+1, Yes don't update, updating will cause nothing but harm for a non-sense rom.

is it possible to try any jellybeans rom other than cm10 and any based roms then revert back to stock 2.17.xxx.2 roms or based custom roms ??
or its related to bootloader
my hboot version is 1.12.0000
thank you :good:

Looks like not. There are few users keep saying it is possible, but no one show the way how.
New bootloader can't boot 2.17.XXX.X roms, for now, question is what about new radio too...
But impossible things can become very possible after few days here on XDA
I suggest to wait few days, thing will become much more clear...
figured so
i flashed custom rom once and stucked with them tell the official release for my country appeared
don't want it to happen again
i think others who can say its possible means jb from cyanogeen or any based rom cause its built from scratch and its open source completely independent on official htc roms
hey!
this might be a stupid question, but im still on the old hboot and i want to use some new sense4+ roms (like ARHD or sth like that).
do i have to upgrade my hboot?
im on cm10 nightleys 4.2.1 and my cid is "cidnum: HTC__102"
thanks for any help
Yes you do so unless you want to use ONLY Sense 4+ ROMs for now I wouldn't upgrade

thanks so i better get back to stock and wait for the official jb upgrade? i guess i wont get any upgrade when i stay on cm10, will i?
So its possible to go from CM10, back to stock, then when the jb ota is available, we can upgrade to that ? I have a branded phone running arhd 9.6 and my carrier only released 4.0.4 on Friday. I'm thinking of going to CM10 to enjoy the jb experience.
Yeah mate
btw, aussie carriers are slow at releasing updates, so it'll be awhile
Hi all,
What is the point of waiting for the official JB to come out by OTA, compared to the JB roms now available on xda (ordroid 7.1.0 for example). Is it more stable because it is from HTC, is there a real benefit?
Which evokes my next question, where do the custom roms get their base from? Is this base the same as the official JB update I have been waiting for?

Jb roms now works only if you have HBOOT 1.31 and some users are waiting for their compatible firmware to be able to upgrade their HBOOT... The custom roms take their base from RUUs and OTAs

Firstly, I am helping my friend install a custom rom on his One X.
A while ago I posted a thread about having trouble flashing recovery. That was resolved recently by using a different computer.
So now his bootloader is unlocked and custom recovery installed.
My friend bought his HTC One X from Virgin AU.
His CID is htc__023 and the OTA update messed with his APN settings and he can't use data anymore.
He is still on ICS and there are no more available updates.
I want to flash CM10 on to his phone.
Now I have a couple of questions.
The stuff to do with hboot version is confusing me. Do I need to upgrade my hboot before I flash CM10 or flash any other roms? Are there any advantages of upgrading hboot or is it merely for rom compatability?
What is the difference between this CM10 and official CM10 nightlies?
Thanks
Well does the first post explicitly say you must update hboot? :silly:
To flash CM10/AOSP/AOKP ROMs, you don't need to update your hboot, it's only when you install sense JB ROMs which are not AOSP/AOKP/CM10.
Upgrading Hboot apparently improves radio stuff i.e. wifi, phone signal. But, it has some issues with non-sense JB ROMs, that's why you shouldn't upgrade it.
The difference between the CM10s is that one is official (durh) and the other is built by Tripnraver, featuring compatibility with all hboot versions and his own tweaks/features.

Thanks a lot. Makes sense.
Do you think it is worth upgrading Hboot for radio benefits and then flashing the Tripnraver CM10?
If so, what is the correct method to upgrade the Hboot?
There has been numerous reports of people having issues on the newer hboots, so I recommend leaving it as it is. The problems outweigh the benefits. And the benefits aren't much either.
Oh yeah, camera is missing on Trip's ROM apparently. Maybe you should try Ice Cold Jelly AOKP, still based off stock google: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796340

Okay thanks.
Yeah just realised camera was missing and my friend couldn't get the home button working on official CM10 (couldn't find anyone else with similar problem?). I did do a full wipe both times.
The reason I didn't initially go with IceColdJelly was because it is much more customisable and assumed my friend would just be better off with CM as he isn't that knowledgeable at these things. But am going to try this now.
Thanks again
Ok new question.
Why doesn't my friend's home button work on IceColdJelly and CM10 Nightlies?
He says it vibrates but does not play a click sound and doesn't do anything.
It worked on TripNRaVeR's rom.
edit:
LiquidSmooth is working very well for him.
Perhaps the gapps I used for CM10 and ICJ were causing the problem? I was using the latest one available from goo.im for these 2 roms.

For Ice Cold Jelly, did you flash 3.4 or 3.4.1?
Gapps should not affect the functionality, it merely is a package of the google applications.
As for customisation, your friend may leave those alone if he doesn't want them

3.4.1
Yeah I didn't think gapps should affect functionality but it was the only thing in common between the 2 roms with the problem.
It's not that he doesn't want them, I just thought he would be better off without them in case he made problems for himself while playing around with them.
But yeah, he is happy on LiquidSmooth at the moment. We'll see if any major problems show up within the next 24 hours.
Hi there,
lately there have been OTA updates for CID HTC__023 and TELNZ001 which brought a new base (3.17) and some troubles (touch not responding) when using old (3.14) based custom roms.
The OTA brought a hboot update including an update to the touchscreen controller and therefore it only works correctly when using the corresponding 3.17 base kernel.
As slowly various CIDs are getting OTA updates to new base with new touchscreen controller firmware, these devices will have touchscreen issues on 3.14 based roms. But this kernel will help those people out.
adamnz had the initial idea in the thread linked above to try the 3.17 kernel on a 3.14 rom, so I followed up and created a flashable zip with all neccessary modules for those who are stuck with stock HTC ROM atm.
As I am running sense based RD-MIUI, I created a MIUI compatible boot.img, too which incorporates some ramdisk tweaks as init.d-support (busybox run-parts), volume-wake-deep-sleep-fix and run shelld service to prevent MiuiHome FCs.
03.02.2013: Base 3.17.781.2 (CID TELNZ001)
Grab the flashable zip from here: endeavoru_base_3.17.781.2_kernel.zip
Thx to adamnz for providing the OTA file and yumcimil for a full nandroid backup. :highfive:
Base 3.17.728.1 (CID HTC__023)
Grab the flashable zip from here: endeavoru_base_3.17.728.1_kernel.zip
Infos on different boot images
boot.img is the fully untouched 3.17 stock kernel while boot_miui.img has some tweaks as described above.
As the tweaks in boot_miui.img should have no drawbacks when used with non-miui-rom (and users reported that the stock one does not work but the miui one does),
boot_miui.img is the prefered kernel even when not running MIUI (if you do not want to repack).
Repacking
As JB sense roms around use the HTC stock kernel, which ramdisk is quite the same compared to this kernel, you can easily repack this kernel with the one from your favourite ROM. Please use the boot.img for this instead of boot_miui.img and do not forget to flash the zip file with the modules. This way you get all the rom-specific features and tweaks the rom chef included in his ramdisk.
Installation
Make a nandroid before, flash zip from recovery, flash boot.img from within the zip via fastboot, wipe cache and reboot.
Re: [KERNEL][Base 3.17.728.1] HTC JB Stock & MIUI
Thanks for this!
Sent from my One X running Blade v4.6.0. At a mere 240 MB, with tons of AROMA Mods and tweaks, this, is what you want.
Confirmed working with ViperX 3.3.2 using boot_miui.img, on HTC__023.
Touch works
cheers
Working with insert coin 15.1.1 with vid HTC_001!!
fantastic!
Works very well with Blade v4.6.0 (de-sensed) on HTC__023. Battery drain is less than 0.5% per hour in deep sleep.

Yeah, this kernel works with all CIDs, but there are no real improvements. At least I did not notice any.
But for those with CID 023 and latest OTA update (3.17) this kernel allows them to use 3.14 based roms again. :good:

Thanks for trying this one out and reporting back. Really much appreciated.
hi, i have touchscreen problems. part of my touchscreen not working. but im on 3.14.720 stock rom. and i didn't get the update yet. i want to try this flashable zip. what should i do? does the update fix touchscreen problems?

You would need to unlock your bootloader via htcdev, flash custom recovery and then flash the kernel zip in recovery and the kernel image in bootloader with fastboot.

What CID do you have?
The offical 3.17 base update only rolled out for CID HTC_023 atm. As this update brought something new to the touchscreen controller, this 3.17 kernel is needed to run 3.14 based roms.
If you have a CID different from HTC_023 (OR did not yet installed the official 3.17 OTA), running this kernel will not change anything regarding to your problem. But of course you can try, it will not cause any harm. Just follow the instructions in OP.
EDIT: Just overread the STOCK in your post. Need to grab a cup of coffee.
But gffmac is right: Just need to mention that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your /data-Partition (userdata).

It's unlikely to fix a touchscreen problem that was present on a stock rom especially if you haven't unlocked it previously. You maybe have a hardware problem with it

Of course you need a jb compatible hboot the run this kernel.
Working fine on Venom ViperX JB 3.3.2
CID: H3G__001
HBOOT: 1.39
What's battery life using this on Viper like compared to Skydragon?
