Hello guys got myself a T989 from walmart.com comes with the $30 prepaid plan 5gb high speed unli data, text and 100 minutes talk time. All for $330.
So I register on T-mobile website. I just notice that my phone is listed as "titanium and refurbished". My question is: Is there a way to know if it is really refurbished or not?
On Walmart website it did not indicated if it is refurbished. The impression I got it is a brand new unit. I would be very disappointed if it is
Was the accessories seal wrapt? Did the phone was without battery when you opened it? Was the battery in a plastic closing?

Everything was wrapped. The phone still has the protective film w/ some description of the button's function. The battery is in its plastic pouch. I was trying to locate the phone lifetime usage minutes but can't find it.
What set me off is when I went to T-mobile website to check on my account, under my phone is it indicated that it is a Titanium refurbish unit but they got the color wrong. mine is black
Titanium is there black.

Who cares if its a refurb or not? Is it working properly? Does it look brand new?? I don't see the issue here. I got a refurb that works better than the original I bought brand new.

I have Galaxy S2, Galaxy S 4G that I bought from T-Mobile directly as a refurbished device, and Galaxy S Vibrant.
T-Mobile website currently lists Vibrant as a refurbished device while Galaxy S 4 G does not show as refurbished. I would not worry too much about what T-Mobile website is showing you.
If it says "refurbished" than that's probably what it is. I've bought a few refurbished items and saved some money. Each one I purchased looked brand new, was wrapped, and had no visual cues that it was anything but new. But each item was clearly marked a refurb, so I knew what I was paying for. You might want to check Wal-Mart's fine print.
That said, I've had really good experiences buying refurbed stuff from Major retailers, like T-Mobile and Woot.com. I'd imagine wal-mart probably has similar quality refurbs since they are a large retailer, and the item you are buying is still in production.

Just want to know if the "refurb mark" is on the box or on the unit?
Thanks for everybody's input and opinion
If you went to Walmart and bought the phone and it didn't specify that it was refurbished than it is new. Bought this phone from Wal-Mart brand new not refurbished.

Same here. Got my T989 from Walmart.com a little over a month ago. T-mobile.com identifies it as "Samsung Galaxy S™ II - Titanium Refurbished". I've tried to confirm if it's refurbished or new with no luck. Nothing I can find on the phone or box to indicate refurbished and none of the RTN codes I've found work with this phone.
I think T-Mobile just says they are refurbished. Mine was definitely brand new and it still says that.
Is there a website we could check the usage of our phones life

A better deal than dailysteals and that deal expired I believe. If you ordered a Galaxy Nexus from Newegg less than a week ago, you can try talking to customer service and see if they will drop the price to match with the coupon. In the past, they've done price matches if they changed the price within a week or so of your purchase.
Awesome deal.
Too bad it doesn't work on the white.
I hope this stays through the weekend
It's awesome, i have been waiting for such a deal somewhere
thank you so much.
That's not bad. I bought mine from a guy who had his brand new on ebay for 630! But he was local here in san diego and no one was bidding on it so i messaged him and told him id give him $500 cash. I got it

From the i9100 I ordered from them, they put the business card of their warranty company in there. When I bought the Nexus this past week, I ordered from Amazon and got square trade instead. I did not have a good experience with NewEgg on the i9100 purchase.

Newegg is very reputable when it comes to good packaging in a well manner. The promo code is LIMITED and will not always be there. I would say just buy it, if you have a problem with it.. you can contact their customer support which is excellent.

Well considering 98%+ of the feedback are generally positive. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as there are no physical damage on the phone and the seal is on the screen, it doesn't matter.. just do a factory reset. That's just my own opinion but for some people this can be the deal breaker because a welcome screen wasn't displayed
Do not buy from newegg. I bought mine from them in dec. with extended warranty. Phone broke in feb. The phone was covered by neweggs 90 day warranty so i had to send it to brainstorm co. for repair.Brainstorm is where newegg gets their phones from. Called brianstorm 2 weeks after i sent the phone they told me it would be about 2 more weeks. Called newegg to see what they could do for me, they told me there was nothhing they could do because they dont have control of another company. So today i called brainstorm 25 days since i sent the phone to them, they had no clue when phone would be ready I asked to speak with manager was told there was none. Called newegg again they told me i should tell brainstorm to send me my phone back without repair so i could send it to extended warranty co for repair. What the heck is that! Anyway sorry for the rant but i will never buy from newegg again. Buy from Amazon.

Really? lol. You're kidding about NOT buying from Newegg because of this? Newegg is a excellent company when it comes to buying from their website and they're recognized for their fast shipping and great customer service.
Buying a phone from Amazon will bring you in the same situation. The best way to get a Galaxy Nexus (GSM) is to get it through Negri or Expansys.
Nice first post... and you never mentioned how your phone "broke"

So I had to get a replacement phone and they sent me one through customer service, now how do I know if its refurbished. The shipping weight shows it being .80lbs. I dont even know if its possible to even have refurbished ones this soon. What do you all think?
Refurbished are guaranteed to be the same quality as new so if it isn't send it back.
consider how many people bought the phone, even though it's only been out a few weeks. there's going to be messed up ones, of course. there may also be new ones as well, if they run out of refurbs. like the above poster said, not to worry, as they're just as good as new.

Well....
#1. The shipping weight is low because it is not coming with battery or any accessories, not even a battery door. Just the phone.
#2. There is a possibility it is refurbished, and there is a MMI code ##RTN# that displays whether it is refurbed or not. Has to be 100% stock to see, so don't flash anything.
#3. Hit thanks, and let us know your findings

craigslist, ebay?
I have sold used phones on craigslist and ebay. Amazon has some refurbs too but not many Sprint.
Most of them end up on Craigslist or eBay anyway. Ebay if you don't want to meet the seller in some dark alley, Craigslist if you don't want to pay and wait for shipping.
Bummer I feel like the marketplace had the best deals

Where to buy used android phones
This 4.7 Inch S4 Smartphone Android 4.2 13.0MP Camera is a very nice phone and it arrived super fast. It worked right out of the box with my T-Mobile sim card. It is the equivalent to the Galaxy S3 international version so it's a little different but it works well. The only thing is the screen is VERY fragile and a drop from a few inches without a case will crack and spread across whole screen. Phone still works with cracked screen, but it sometimes now will shut off when it has a full charge. It's the equivalent to the Galaxy S3 however cases don't fit bought from eBay, they are too tight and hole for volume control was on opposite side on the case than on the phone.

For me, Craigslist or Ebay.. But Craigslist is really really.. It's 50/50. I would rather pay more and just buy at a retail store or someyhing. So many people getting their phone's IMEI blocked after buying from CL and stuff. Try Swappa

+1 for swappa. I bought a TMobile 7.0+ and an i717 off there with no issues. I'm looking for a white collar collar job this fall when I finish working beach volleyball and I'll probably be buying a Note 2 off there.
I've bought a couple on local craigslist for $400 in like new condition. They do pop up from time to time. It seems the going rate in the Ventura area is $475. I stumbled across a Verizon one for $350. It had chewed up chrome bezel and battery door. I spent $25 on replacing them and got $500 for it. So don't be afraid of body damage as long as the glass is in good shape.

been looking and have found some a lil bit lower.. im actually looking at two right now
1st) is a Sprint Gnote2 already flashed to pageplus ( which is what i would do with it if i get it anyways) for $220
2nd) is Tmobile Gnote 2 clean imei for $300
cant decide
one hand one is cheaper and pageplus works off verizon towers which would give me good reception wherever i am but fastest data speed is 2mb down .. pageplus plan for $70 with 5gb data is the plan i would get on this...
the tmobile is more expensive , i would get the $70 plan have unlimited data but some complain about call quality and coverage and i use phone for work so not sure... tmobile data would obviously be alot faster and you could talk and surf and the same time which is not a requirement but a plus..
still trying to decide ...aaarrggghhh
Check Amazon every once in a while for deals through personal sellers. For ex. I got a brand new unopened and unlocked iPhone 5 for $480 shipped about 3 months after release just because of how cheap it was.. Used it for 3weeks or so and turned around and still sold it for 788 on ebay

I have seen crazy seller too. As in listing for used s3 starting at

But to each is his own.
I got my note2 on ebay for 435.00 includ shipping.
But I had to hunt for it almost 6 month.

Anything on Craigslist/ Ebay/ Amazon for really cheap- Less than $400 or so, I would consider suspicious. Especially the ones that look really new. Some people claim on insurance and the one they are selling you is the one they probably got off of insurance by ripping someone else off. Ebay is a little better because they have buyer protection- but still, it's only 30 days and the original owner can report lost/stolen, claim insurance after 30 day period.
Bought a Note 2 for $500 brand new and a week later, got it blocked.
I have heard that if you meet with the seller at a Tmobile store, they'll be able to switch over the IMEI- but make sure it's not on a payment plan or you'll be screwed even if you switch over the IMEI..
There's a local shop that sells used phones and new one as well, the seller showed me a Samsung galaxy s3 for 280$, but it has no manufactures warranty the seller gave me 10 days warranty from the shop, from there I started having doubts about the phone, because he gave me only 10 days so maybe the phone is corrupt, but it is in excellent condition at the outside. The new one costs 400$, so I'll be saving 120$, the phones in my country are highly expensive. So it's either that phone or a new Samsung Galaxy s3 mini OR a Moto G. What do you recommend me?? What I basically want to know is if a second handed GS3 will face any problems?
You're taking a risk buying any used phone. I mean if you're buying it from a shop.. Hopefully it's got a clean esn etc. 280 seems a bit pricey for such an old phone though. No Craigslist in your country?

Nobody use craigslist around here, and yeah 280 is expensive but around here everything is expensive, I am not in a hurry buying a phone, but should I go for it or the S2 plus? or the Moto g?
Got my S3 on Amazon for $30 over six months ago. My point is there are deals out there all the time that should trump buying a used device.

I bought a clean ESN Sprint Galaxy S3 on eBay for $155 shipped in great condition. Hard to know what a good price is "around there" without knowing where "there" is.
The SIII Mini and the Moto G both have drawbacks IMO. Off the top of my head, reviews for the Mini suggest the display doesn't look so hot, and re: the Moto I wouldn't touch a phone with no SD slot (and you're aware it's limited to 3g, right?). If the GS III is fully working now, there's nothing that's going to creep out of nowhere unless you drop it.
I just started using this GS3 and I think it's a great great phone.
