i forget which rom i was on at the time (either aokp or paranoid android) but when i used it, it worked fine, and both are jb roms. maybe its just the rom you were on

Stock JB removes the hidden partitions used to reset the counter.
Once we get JB source we can probably work with CF to get a kernel/recovery that allows it just like the S3 and N2.

You can also one click Odin back to a stock Rom like EL29 and it will get rid of it too. It won't reset the count though.

You can buy a quality USB Jig for 5 bucks and that will take care of the triangle no matter what ROM you are running.

As for the jig. If it doesn't work you need a different bootloader. Calkulin had one on his thread. Can't remember which one. I do remember it had sbl in the name of the file itself.

That is somewhat incorrect. It will only work with an unpatched bootloader.

[ACS][DEV] Lets Get Rid of that Yellow Triangle.. Proof of Concept.. **Updated 10/28

I guess the title is a little misleading... because I've already figured it out. No jig needed.
Well lets get to it.
Contains this kernel:
http://www.forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php/3167-KERNEL-ODIN-Stock-Pulled-Repacked-with-CWM5
First, flash a custom kernel so you can root your phone. Doesn't matter, just get it rooted, how ever you wish.
Then, flash the "Pulled" stock kernel provided by Bubby323
http://www.forums.acsyndicate.net/s...ed-from-a-non-rooted-phone.?p=12012#post12012
Thanks JBN:
http://min.us/l3W76zVg6eNNi
After that, this is where I come in...
Go to
http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/
and download FlashzImage.zip
unzip it to your PC, it requires that you have drivers installed to ADB into your phone.
ADB binary is in the zip, so you don't need that, just debugging mode turned on.
Run Install.bat
Make sure your screen is on, so you can accept the SU prompt. your phone will reboot at some point, and it will have my newest test kernel and no yellow triangle...
Thanks to QbKing77 for the How To Video:
[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySskTt-S-cM[/media]
From there, you can install any kernel you want from CWM using zips, and not increase your odin mode binary counter.
Also if your prefer, you can replace the zImage in the original zip with any kernel to flash...
This could be adapted to mac or linux pretty easy im sure, but I'm not gonna do it, thats why I labeled this a proof of concept. all the bat file does is push the files. you can manually push them and chmod and run the script and get the same effects..
anyways, heres my small contribution for the day...
Thanks to Orionstein and Rjmjr69 for help testing...
and freenode #lostkernel
Does it reset the binary counter?
$2 jig does both

no, just removes the custom binary flag.... which removes the triangle..
sorry but im not gonna try to decompile the boot loader and what not... especially since i dont have the phone..

yes youre correct it does...
but why should you have to buy a jig? why should you have to odin kernels at all?? it should be used as a safeguard...
this method is to get cwm on your phone, and this method only needs to be used once, then you can use CWM to flash everythign from then on out...
or you can buy a 2 dollar jig, use odin every time, use your jig everytime...
doesnt matter to me, like i said, this is my small contribution for the day...
You, sir, are a man among men... Thank you for your Kernel and for this fix (that yellow triangle just BUGS - like an itch you can't scratch).
thanx chris, great work as usual.

After doing this, if I want to flash another kernel that was packaged for odin, do I just get a cwm packaged kernel and replace the zimage with the one found in the tar?
Edit: I was an impatient prick and did just what I asked and it worked out fine. Thank you for doing this. My theory is that the way were putting CWM on our phones via Odin was the reason that some of us got more frequent LOS after flashing. Only time will tell. I know that when I am on stock pulled kernel, I go days without LOS. As soon as I flash CWM via Odin or flash an Odin custom kernel, I am back to LOS within hours or even minutes in between instances. I have a feeling that this will make things better for custom kernels. Fingers crossed.

This new white e4gt is really nice looking; glad my wife took my "used" black e4gt so I could have this shiny white new one!
Oh well, its not that big of a deal, and, eventually, once all these "leaked" roms are finished, and we have a "release" version, I am sure someone will figure out a way to get rid of it again..
It isn't the newer roms, it is the newer bootloader.
If you use the fb17 odin one-click in my sig you won't have that issue.

Since I am an all osx house, can i just download mobile odin pro, and load it up into that and flash it, once I decide to take this plunge, or, is it smarted to follow the osx/heimndall instructions?
I guess your answer depends on whether or not you are a osx guy, or widows guy.

[GUIDE] Remove yellow triangle from any kernel, does it work for you?

So I've been messing with all the new ICS builds coming out and more specifically, using the Steady Hawkins kernels.
I still don't think ICS is ready for prime-time so I've done a restore, a few times, to my current Calk 2.9.2, FC05 modem, 1.5 Hitman EL29 kernel. My yellow triangle is now gone.
In short, give this a shot and see if it works for you:
- get one of Steady Hawkins ICS based kernels in zip format
- go into CWM and do a nandroid backup
- install the SH ICS kernel
- reboot to CWM and restore from nandroid backup
I've also messed with the stock rooted ROMS, so that may also have done it. If the above steps don't work then try this:
- get a stock rooted ICS based ROM AND get one of Steady Hawkins ICS based kernels in TAR format
- go into CWM and do a nandroid backup
- install the stock rooted ICS ROM and reboot
- reboot to odin recovery and flash the SH ICS kernel
- reboot into CWM and do a nandroid restore
As I've mentioned, I'm back to a restore of calks 2.9.2 w/FC05 modem and SH's Hitman EL29 kernel and NO TRIANGLE!
If you brick, don't blame me!
good luck!
This might work but you could just use the triangle away app in the market. It resets your Odin counter and gets rid of the yellow triangle, although I think it might only be for ics based roms.

Here's the link for detailed instruction -
http://shetalksandroid.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-reset-sgs2-flash-counter-and.html
Also, it seems like the current version is v1.25 instead of 1.1.
I followed this instruction and my counter went back to 0.
Be sure that it only supports ICS ROM only. Once you reset the counter, you can install whatever rom you want.
To download, use the download link from the above linked website. It will send it back to XDA forum attachment. Anyway, this link or attachment could be disappeared anytime soon because it costs $2 in the market.

There is a proof of concept thread in the dev section that's supposed to work. It's worked for others but it never would for me. Oh and yes you will still need things like Odin and the like. Also the only real way to do it via a App is TriangleAway and it's only for ICS based roms.

Triangle Away
The current FC18 ICS leak is a very good right now. I've been trying all the releases and FC18 is about complete as i can tell. I would not be afraid to recomend just flashing a FC18 rom and staying with it. That also lets you use the Triangle Away app that's in the Market. If you search around i belive the developer has it posted for free on XDA. I have used the app and it works just fine.
The best way I can figure,
First of course, make a full Backup to flash back to at the end of this so you can keep all your settings.
Follow the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 this post. This will basically flash you back to stock, El29 with root.
After that, follow the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 this post using the e4gtauto.exe or zip if you perfer to get a working recovery.
Then reboot into recover, restore your backup and enjoy no yellow triangle.
None of this ups flash count (I believe, don't quote me on it). All of this is assuming your planning on staying Gingerbread.
THIS ASSUMES GINGERBREAD TO GINGERBREAD EL29-EL29. THIS MIGHT WORK FOR ICS TO GINGERBREAD BUT DON'T TRY THIS FOR GINGERBREAD TO ICS, IT JUST WOULDN'T WORK AND WOULD BE STUPID.
If this works for you, make sure to thank the authors of those two treads, they did all the work, I just did the research to find their work.
I don't know if there is a quicker way (probably is somewhere) but I have used this and it has worked with no problems.
I have a USB jig. What can I do with it? How do I use out to remove triangle?

[Q] Need to restore stock without USB

Hi all,
My phone's USB port does not work at all. I need to get the stock software back on to take it back to Sprint, but cannot use Odin to do so (because of the bad USB port).
I tried flashing the FL24 tar file (from Rwilco12's repository) using Mobile Odin (I checked wipe cache & dalvik, and selected the file in the "System" button), but I must've done something wrong because it wouldn't boot, and CWM recovery was still there. So I restored my last backup.
Any input on why the flash didn't take? Did I use the wrong tar file? Am I doing something wrong in Mobile Odin?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! =)

I have not had to do this, but I'm thinking that if you flash an ICS or GB rom in recovery, you might be able to upgrade to the latest stock OTA available in settings>updates
I think you need Mobile Odin Pro to flash that. Mobile Odin free will only flash kernals, at least mine will only flash kernals.

What's your goal? Upgrade or replacement? That drives much of the answer, as expediency is the driver here. Your phone having a busted USB port limits your options at the store. If it's upgrade, just wipe the dang thing from CWM, remove your SD card and call it a day. You've got a real shot at getting a nominal amount of credit for a busted phone towards a new one. If it's replacement, your options are entirely different.

I decided I'm just going to take micmars's suggestion and wipe the thing in recovery. Initially, I was trying to get the phone replaced because I wanted to delay my upgrade for a few months until the new s5 or maybe the Nexus 5 came out, but I decided just to upgrade tomorrow when I'm eligible and get the Note 2 (can't justify Sprint's ridiculous $350 on-contract price tag for the Note 3).
Again, thanks for everyone's help and input!
