Ya could try and hope they don't ask for the code or anything. I don't see why they would though for a screen repair

I most definitely would backup my data and flash a stock rom. You want them to verify everything works on the new screen before they ship it back to you

informal question to original poster. How exactly did the screen crack and what type of case were you using if any? Not bashing you if you weren't using a case just kind of interested
BACK UP YOUR DATA
I had a screen crack on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Sent it to them locked down, and it came back with a factory flashed image. I assume they need to do testing on it.

ok guys thanks for the replies. I am just going to wipe it and throw a basic rom on there.

This only happens when I'm trying to type a text message or play a game that requires the use of a touch pad (like zenonia 3 and 4). The touch screen just refuses to respond properly and is causing me to be annoyed. Anyone know how to resolve this issue so I don't have to go back to Verizon and get a replacement?
NOTE: I've already tried to pull out the battery, format the phone, and the sd card. None of them worked.

On aosp roms I had the same issue.. just randomly would not respond. My soft keys would still and anything but the keyboard.. I don't know why. What I would do is turn my screen off and back on and it would start normal again.. then I just went back to sense and no issues

Ok, then I think it's probably an issue with the digitizer. I would take it to Verizon and see if you can get a replacement.

I was afraid you would probably say that, but I'm probably gonna do that around march or april. Unrooting my phone is gonna be a pain and redoing the process over, but I have little choice in the matter. Thanks.

People are saying this may be a pba problem.
Only PBA I know of is a bluetooth profile. What are you referring to?
I have the GSM Nexus so proceed with caution, but I'm wondering if they use the same types of files and folders. This is what I did to fix it when I accidentally wiped my IMEI:
cmstlist said:
Okay that was quick - solved it!
I believe the problem was that I'd restored the entire /data partition of my prior unit's backup including the /data/radio folder. Not a good idea! The solution was to copy the nv_data.bin and .md5 files from /factory and paste them to replace the incorrect ones in /data/radio. Now my IMEI is back!
Time to backup those files somewhere safe...

Don't try anything without backing up what you already have.
Just flash it to stock and play stupid. Then they will "factory data reset" it, because that fixes everything. Ha ha. No really, they'll give you a replacement.

if you can make a nandroid,
first off you need to download wugfresh's Gnex toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
second you need to install all the drivers if you haven't already.
then you need to choose your model type
after you will need to click on back to stock what it does is it resets everything, assuming your phone ant boot up choose not booting
once that is done you can choose the factory image which can be downloaded from Googles factory images or you can use the options provided
after that you follow all the steps provided in the tool kit. the tool kit is mostly automatic so it wont take allot of time.
once that is done you are back in stock and have lost everything but don't fret because you can root it again using the same tool kit.
quick point your phone still has an unlocked boot loader so don't worry about that.
once youve completed the above steps you should be back to your good old galaxy nexus home screen
Verizon won't warranty it because the sticker under the battery has turned colors. No water damage I just touched one day when I took out the battery my hands were slightly wet prob not smart lol. I know this wasn't the cause it has been 5 months the only thing damaged was the sticker and warranty. Yes I have the right ROMs installed I'm not a newb. This is like the same issue with the s3 I tried to use the qpst method but I can't even get the hidden menu to show on the phone clueless as to why. I just want to use my gnex as a beater phone when I'm out.

Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.
Is the battery low?

What does windows report it as in device manager?
If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)
Are you sure its an SGH-T999?

I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark.
Positive it is a SGH-T999, before I flashed the stock PDA in ODIN, Windows Device manager would list that. How do I flash TWRP? Do I need the screen to do it?
Oh the battery is fully charged.

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. I know it is in download mode because it reads on ODIN.
No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

Well that's a different story lol. Seems like a hardware fault. If you feel comfortable, take it apart and check all connections. And use a very bright light to look for any cracks on the LCD (not the digitizer) but the underlying LCD.

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

My 6 months old Galaxy S2X Hercules seems to be having the infamous sticky power button issue.
Phone would sometime shut off and then vibrate every 3,4 seconds..
I took it into a samsung corporate store and they say because I rooted the phone I've voided the warranty and they cannot fix it without charging me 60$+ dollars even though the problem IS HARDWARE related not SOFTWARE.
Is there anything I can do at this point ?
I can barely use my phone because of this problem.

It's quite possible to go back to stock, you just need to not touch the phone at all to risk the power button sticking again.
I had the exact same problem as OP, and I was able to go back to stock using Odin. Just take out the battery and then hit vol down and plug it in to the usb on the computer.
Then he should be able to go back to stock and then return the phone, they shouldn't charge him if it's under warranty.

Yesterday I dropped my phone, and busted up the screen, and the digitizer, I believe its called... The touch screen no longer responds, but the phone still works, can receive calls etc.
If I choose to replace it through insurance or something like that, they will charge me full price if I sent back a rooted phone correct?
Just trying to way my options... one thread talks about going through ATT's Device Support Center, which maybe the cheapest route.
Any suggestions on getting this baby unrooted without a functional screen/?

Well since you have insurance then just pay the deductible! It's not FULL price tho! Think it's like$125/150 and they'll send you out a new one!! Just tell em it fell broke apart. I don't think they'll want to to send in a busted up phone!!
That is what I did when I broke my phone. Plus it's like 2 day turn around for them too get you the phone..

Without touch screen or visual screen interactions. ..unroot is not possible...
You need screen touch to run triangle away. .
But I think you can get both changed by a repair shop for about $250..
And they don't care about root. .
