How To: Disabling Roaming Notification Message - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I saw a thread for this with a flashable zip, but is is for the S3 under ICS. Would this work with the Note, or can someone guide me on what to do? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858476
I like having as little crap on my phone as possible, and can already tell when I am roaming because of the signal strength icon. That icon drives me nuts because I constantly hop between one to two bars Sprint and one to two bars on VZW at home.

Were u able to solve it? IS ANNOYYYYIIIING!!!

Swipe the notification off and the icon goes away. Or disable roaming guard. The only icon you'll see is the little triangle by the signal bars.

In my case even after disabling roaming guard, the icon still shows when i'm data roaming. I just ignore it now. I only data roam anyway in one particular spot at work during break time.

Mine just flashes up for like 10seconds then goes away with roaming guard disabled. If I have it enabled I have to manually swipe it away but it doesn't come back unless I bounce back on network then roam again. I'm pretty sure theres a way to fully suppress the notification but it would require an edit somewhere in either systemui or frameworks-res, I believe. It's never actually bothered me enough to look into it since it doesn't stick with my roaming guard disabled, or can be swiped away with it enabled.

Even with roaming guard disabled, it'll keep popping up. You probably aren't in an area where the signal keeps bouncing back and forth between roaming and the home network.
Anyways, digiblur has a mod for this. It is even baked into his ROM (which is the one I am currently using): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2157332

[Q] MOAR wifi question

Benn running MOAR v2.2 for a few days and love it. But I've noticed something when wifi is turned on. If I'm on the wifi settings screen, I can see it scanning about every 5-6 seconds for new wifi signals, even though I'm signed into my home router with a good signal.
Network notification is turned off. I'm running the stock kernel.
Couldn't find anything in the moar thread about this.
Wondering if it's just me or if others also have this happening but just haven't noticed? Because you wouldn't know unless you're on the wifi settings screen with wifi turned on.
Can anyone verify this?
Any ideas on how to make it stop constantly scanning?

Well, this has nothing to do with your rom or kernel...thats just how the wifi is implemented. And you cant turn it off, unless you want to use wifi at all that is, this is to make sure you still have wifi access and to update the wifi networks that show up listed
You can make the scan interval longer by setting the "wifi_supplicant_scan_interval" (or something along those lines) to a higher value in your build.prop (located at /system/build.prop)

I've been doing tons of reading here and I've seen some devs saying, "every time someone asks a question that could have been answered by searching, a cute furry animal dies." lol
Reminded me of an old National Lampoon cover with a picture of a dog with a gun to it's head. Next to the picture it said "If you don't buy this magazine, we'll kill this dog!" One of the best covers of any magazine EVER. I cant post pics yet but google that phrase and you can see it.

Preparing network question!

Everytime I reboot my S3 it has a notification in the status bar 'preparing network'. It hasn't affected internet or texts or anything but it will not go away unless I long press the app in my notification drawer and force stop it. Anyway to make it stop period? I know it has to do that periodically but its never been frozen on the screen before! Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm on stock mb1 rooted with stock kernel.

I'd backup, then wipe everything. Don't restore any data just setup your phone again and see how it goes from there.
Might be some funky data.

Well I've already backed up so I guess I'll try factory restoring.
Sent from my 'milky' white S3 on the ever-getting-better Sprint network.
I also am getting this but not after phone reset (that i know of...not really resetting to much)
Mine is happening after phone is in standby/sleep mode for a few mins then i press power to take out of sleep.
I can see that message "preparing network) and during this time my "groove ip" app is not connected but it looks like my wifi is still.
Im not connected to cell service as i dont have any....it does show the cell signal bars but im connected over wifi.
I also have power saving mode disabled.
I do notice my whole noticicafion bar goes blank which is actually all black and when preparing network notification shows i can then see all my regular notifications up there....
Ok I fixed it, turns out when I changed my build.prop to 'Galaxy Nexus' and 'Google' instead of 'Samsung' it borked it. I changed the build.prop back and all is fine again. Weird to say the least :/

Happen at:

When it changes from LTE to 3G coverage.
BTW it shows only for a split second. Never hangs or something like that.

It's always done it, just never had a notification before. It's the profile updating during network connection. It *should* do it anytime the network is enabled or switches between bands. In older builds you could see it if you went into /settings/about phone/status and toggled airplane mode on and off, under mobile network status it would say connected, then disconnected, then preparing, then connected. It's nothing to worry about it's just like any electronic device connecting to the Internet it takes a few seconds and there's typically a loading dialog while it connects.

I just fixed my signal issues.

Wow, this is frustrating. After half a year of thinking that Sprints network sucks and suffering through terrible connections I finally fixed my issue. After an ice storm this week I was getting nothing but a slow 3g connection. Tonight I was digging through ##data# settings and switched the network from "hybrid mode" to "cdma/evdo/lte mode" and the thing connects giving me 1.1 mb/s for download speeds. I thought I was going to have to force LTE only to be able to connect but I have not dropped back to 3g since switching over to this. I wish I would have done this months ago but toggling airplane mode worked to give me my 4g back so I didn't really worry about it.
If I remember from the epic touch days when you mess around with that it doesn't allow you to send MMS or make calls I think. Might be different now.

I wish my issue was that simple. I have all the towers in my area NWed to 4G LTE, but the one next to my house. They skipped that one. Its like a gap, they won't be fixing anytime soon. My LTE speeds are ok, next to one side of my house.. but thats about it.

Back on topic, OP have you had any issues with SMS/MMS since you did this tweak in the ##data# settings?
Same here with sprint's reception in my area and probably 70% of where I usually go out to. My friends have at&t and Verizon and they just blow away speed tests compared to sprint. I'm thinking of giving this a shot when I have some free time

This has me intrigued. Sometimes I have issues with MMS, and it would be great if I could get all MMS messages that are sent to my phone (stupid group messaging...) to also go to an email box as well.

Sorry it took me a couple days to reply. I wanted to make sure to put it through all the paces. I have had nobody tell me they weren't able to reach me. This has actually been an improvement for me because while I was at home and would receive a phone call I would only hear the ring for about 5 seconds before it sent them to the voicemail. Phone calls are ringing right in now. One thing that happens is I get "darth vader" sounding either on my end or their end after a ten minute conversation or so. Although that happened before I changed this setting when I was stuck on 3g. Network pangs I guess. I am more than happy to call somebody back to have a steady 4g connection. All SMS/MMS questions do not apply to me because of how I use my phone. With google voice those are both going through data instead of messaging in its traditional sense. I LOVE google voice and the extensions to messaging that it provides me like being able to use it on wifi when I have 0 connectivity. I prefer typing out messages through the browser if I am at home because my stupid fingers have problems with hitting the wrong button on touch screen keyboards. Sorry for sounding like an advertisement for GV, lol. Nobody has my real sprint number... I use the GV number so I have extremely easy portability between providers when I decide to move. No mass messages to people with my new number that they might glance over.
Anyway, Hopefully other people have success with what I tried here.
Another thing I am wondering because of people saying they had different settings input. I should have mentioned in the OP that I am currently on TPR 3.12. Are the people who have a different option on a different rom?

G4 spying on me?

Well kind of. Not a paranoid thing. But I got my G4 yesterday and it updated to MM. So I'll start by saying I'm not sure if this is a MM only problem. Anyway, Today I went to walmart did some grocery shopping. I get back out to the truck and look at my phone. (I should have screenshot it but didn't think to) I pull down the notification area and it says Walmart save money etc. So I click on it and it shows reviews with a split view map. I've never had a phone do this before. I'm using the same apps on this phone that I did on my S5. So I figure it's built into the phone. And my guess is it has something to do with google now cards. Even though I never set cards up. I do use google voice however. It's a little annoying seeing as it's using data without my express permission to gather information to show me. Much like how it also uses google now cards to show me ETA to get home even though once again I never set that up either. It assumes some place is where I work as well even though I don't have a set job site since I do odd jobs. Any ideas on this stuff guys? Being on prepaid I'm on a very limited data plan of 1GB per month.
I know somewhat of that feature. It goes by gps to where you been looks like mm has that option enabled cause on my lollipop (not upgrading to mm) i dont have it set up. I have somewhat of the things set up as for home and work. When gps is on it will tell me when i be at work if i left. The weather and when i get home. However you can turn the things off so it wont use your data. Turn off location when you are not useing it. I think you can turn off the things in google settings and you can turn them off in cards

Found the culprit. After digging around a little I remembered the accuweather thing that comes with the phone. Click the little drop down arrow and this is what I see. Telling me it will provide suggestion based on time of day and phone location.. So I deleted the widget but can't figure out how to disable it in the application manager. Can't find it. Can only find weather in there.

So since you've removed the widget I had you don't get them notices? I'm hoping since I removed the widget that it won't show up anymore. I notice your temperature is about the same as mine. I have wifi scanning off. But You're right I have my GPS on I used to have an app that absolutely required it being on to be able to use. I still do have an app that requires it but I don't need to use it often. (instant radar). Best weather radar in my opinion. But yeah after I do my battery test today I'll be sure to turn off GPS as well. I'm comparing the battery time to my S5 with this MM update from yesterday since I heard a lot of people weren't happy with the battery. So the only real world test I could do for my self was to leave GPS on since I always had it on with my S5.
