Running JB 4.1.1. on ATT SG3 (SGHI747). Recently rooted.
Touching the microphone associated with Google Search used to allow me to speak and fill fields. Now, touching the icon brings me to the Play Store link to the Google Voice Search app page. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the application, cleared all file associations, rebooted.
I'm a total noob. I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks.
J
Where is this microphone located? If it is a shortcut out on your main screens (desktop area who's name is escaping me currently) you might want to try going into the "Apps" drawer and opening google voice there. If that works then trash your broken shortcut and drag a new one out.

Lovin' everything about this phone at the moment but just a quick q' about the satnav element of google maps... On tomtom you can be set your current location as a favourite from the on screen menus, I haven't been able to find a way to do this on this google nav, is it possible?
sorry, can't find a way to edit the thread title - should read Google NaVigation query-
When you get google maps to find your current location, if you click on the 'pin' you should get a new screen with the details of that location etc. In the top right corner is a star, so you can 'star' that location as a favourite, like you do in Gmail, Reader etc.
AFAIK you can't set a Home location though
Indeed you can! Brilliant & thank you very much. I also just noticed the "labs" stuff with all the different buttons, I like this phone the more I get to know it.
Thanks for the quick help, appreciate it.
Anyone found a way of adding safety camera info/alerts to Google navigation?
The last touch to a great application!!
u can add a home, I presume u have your home phone number in it? Add your address to the home contact then use the navigate to contact, home and done
Like everybody I was suprised that it is not possible to delete the frequently called history in ICS (or maybe not surprised, because Google is not in the business of deleting history, rather the opposite). I also was surprised that various cleaner apps don't work in ICS.
Anyway, after some research I learnt that you just have to delete the contents table data_usage_stats in /data/data/com.android.providers/databases/contacts or so. Not a big deal with aSqlitemanager and aShell.
But now I discovered exactly the same in the google search bar.
In the google search settings I unchecked every searchable item expect "People". if I tap into the google search, I can see my frequently called contacts.
Does anybody have an idea what database I have to clean to get rid of this?

Disable "google search" in apps.
Nice side benefit....it removes the google search widget from the desktop.
Yes, I know.
But I would like to keep the google search app.
Just want to know where this "frequently called" information is stored. I can not find the database table.
A solution can be found here (thanks @kynon)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401392&page=6
But basically you have to set the following values to 0
last_time_contacted
times_contacted
in table contacts and raw_contacts
Just upgraded to a new sprint gs3. Went to add facebook to accounts and checked the play store first, it says facebook is installed. Cool, but I'm not sure if that came from Sprint or from the automatic app download that happens when you add an existing account. Any way, all is cool, except the fact that facebook doesn't show up in the list of apps so I can put a shortcut on a home screen.
Has anyone else seen this? Am I missing something? In the store, there's an option to uninstall, so I guess I could uninstall/reinstall, but I'd kind of like to understand what's going on before doing that.
Any ideas?
Problem solved. I was expecting the apps to be in alphabetical order in the app drawer and they aren't (facebook was on the last page). Sorry for the silly question.
When in the app drawer hit the menu button / view type then select alphabetical order

thanks - I remembered that about a half second after I realized the drawer wasn't in alphabetical order. Appreciate you going to the trouble to post the screen shot though!
The apk was taken straight from the Nexus 5, and has the search feature actually working! (confirmed)

Here's the apk which if you want to be able to make calls, you need to put in System/Priv-app and set permissions to 644:

FAQ from the website
I installed the app but the icon doesn't show up in my app tray. What can I do?
If this happens on your phone, the only solution we found was to use Nova Launcher because it has a feature that allows you to run a specific activity within an app. To set this up:
Within Nova Launcher, long-press on the home screen.Choose "Shortcuts"Select "Activities"Find "Google Dialer" in the list, then tap to open it up, and select "Phone" (use the first one in the list)
This will put a shortcut to the dialer on your home screen. At this stage, you can use this to access Google Dialer. It's not the cleanest solution, but it does work.
Can I disable my default dialer?
The short answer is no. As a general rule, you will need to keep your present dialer enabled in order to receive calls. The long answer is that on some phones you might be able to disable your stock dialer, but on others you definitely cannot. Feel free to try it on your own device and let us know what your results are.
(I disabled the first phone apk of the 2 that show up (flashing adds another one and I had it A-Z order))
EDIT: After disabling the APK, when I select "Call" the phone doesn't show any call screen whatsoever, and still has a call going, (mic works, and you can call, but the only way you can hang up is to leave the app and click the extended notification)
Again, this is all them!
Hi guys,
I just got my g3 and something really strange happened.
I had the google folder on my homescreen and then deleted it, when i go into my apps i can't see the apps that were in that google folder.
I have to goto the playstore and open gmail from there. Is there any way i can get my icons back from the folder i deleted?
Just before anyone mentions, my apps aren't hidden. They're just gone
Those are just doors to your apps, you deleted the doors.
Just long press on your screen and a dialog will Pop up, go to apps and browse to the one you want, touch it and it should go to your screen.
Yup i know about that also...
I like to have a clean desktop...therefore i use the apps key all the time and access my apps from there.
Is there another way of getting my icons back to where all my other apps are?

Long press on any of them and the one you press will appear on the desktop page your on.. Your then free to long press and move, delete, edit the name etc.... At least with Nova launcher you can.
