Update: Per T-Mobile the latest update [T889UVALL4] should fix the Exynos exploit along with other bug fixes.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4962?noredirect=true
This can be verified by installing Exynos Abuse application after the latest OTA update has been applied and see if the exynos abuse app still works.
----
Samsung has started pushing a fix for Exynous exploit via OTA update. So far it only fixes the SIII and the update is available in UK only.
http://thedroidguy.com/2013/01/sams...ling-out-an-ota-update-to-galaxy-s-iii-units/
Not sure if this OTA has to go through T-mobile, if it does then it's going to take a time long time.
Chainfire already plugged it with ExynosAbuse dude, and before you say "it breaks the camera" that's only on S3s not the Note 2.

Yes, I am very much aware of Chainfire's exynos abuse application, this is an application fix and is good for a temporary solution.
This vulnerability is in the the kernel and ideally the kernel needs to be updated. I think only one of the kernels(Abyss 1.4)has fixed this exploit.

Exactly people that arent in the know dont realize that the s3 and note 2 are very similar. What can happen in one can certainly happen on the other. Theyre not that different. Even their different hardware is similar

I was under the impression that it does break-disrupt every T889 note 2 camera preview function IF running the latest multi-view baseband T889UVALK8 IF disabling exploit checkbox (when exploit is not disabled it only roots via the Exynos exploit)?
Exynos Abuse did not break my camera under Jedi-X 3, but I just updated to Jedi-X 8 and it breaks it now, camera shows a green screen.
After reading the comments here, I did a quick test. When I disable the exploit, I get a green screen on my camera. When the exploit is left intact, the camera is just fine. One comment stated that this is a kernel issue. Im running the stick UVALK8 kernel. Is the perseus kernel affected?

This has been reported to be a kernel issue & I don't think the Perseus kernel has this vulnerability. Anyone with Perseus kernel care to confirm?

BTW, how quickly do you all think apps that maliciously utilize the Exynos exploit would be identified on the internet? Samsung-T-Mobile will get around to fixing ours it seems at some point in the not so distant future but how concerned is everyone about this vulnerability in everyday real world use (sticking with established developers)?

Expolit code was published on the day it was discovered. I am sure google screens all applications in their play store for exploits.
It's better to not install applications from untrusted sources.
This would be a kernel update and I think Samsung will pass on this update to T-Mobile and they will push this on their OTA servers without any delay.

It would be nice if Google Play Store would specifically name screening for this Exynos exploit somewhere that still affects so many of Android's most popular models to further foster confidence with all their Play store apps.
It would seem ridiculous for any developer to risk such liability but it is a wild world out there so I suppose we should try to be appropriately vigilant (if that can be accurately defined).

I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, and yes, I know there's another thread about the "confirmed" Dec update from a top dev but I figured this is worthy of its own thread. Indeed my friend.
Sent from the future.
Carriers hold back updates??? They would never do such thing.
I know some updates the carrier has to purchase from the manufacturer and some are free. I don't quite understand where the dividing line is but having to pay for an update would surely slow down a carrier's intention of pushing an update.
Warning about updates

P.S. Samsung released Android 3.2 update for my Galaxy Tab 8.9

Amen brotha!
Once the first XDA user who knows what they're doing gets an update, it will be posted here so fast that many will find out about it here, not by getting it via OTA. They push them out over several days so most likely there will be a full stock tar to Odin before many of us get it.

How...?
Because the international version is getting something first?
Okay.... the international version also came out first.
The international versions of Samsung devices always get it first.
Samsung has proven time and time again that they are more concerned about the international market than they are the U.S.
It's funny how quickly people forget about history when trying to assign blame.
It's like XDA members live their lives to blame the carriers for everything.
Dammit, it's raining and cold out side, stupid Sprint!
It does make me wonder why AT&Ts Skyrocket just got 2.3.6 pushed to it on 11/22 though, which was released almost 2 months after Sprint's E4GT. Then again, why the Skyrocket and not AT&T's non-LTE GSII? Who knows why these guys do what they do.

We've seen lots of complaining in the last couple of days about what is and isn't working in these ports.
It seems GPS may or may not be working correctly, that it may or may not be due to the Leap Second.
WiFi, Bluetooth, volume... if you have these issues, they can mostly be remedied. If not, gratz.
The fact is, these Roms are ports of development previews on a phone slightly but importantly different than yours running an OS that hasn't been released yet.
I was deeply amazed and impressed that some developers had working ports to CDMA the very night it was announced for GSM.
I'd you are running one of these JB ports and you find that it works well enough as a daily driver, consider yourself fortunate and hit the thanks button on the OP, maybe even donate.
If you are trying it out, but find that it lacks the stability or functionality that you require, click the thanks button on the OP anyway because they spent the time to give you something now for free that which you would otherwise have to wait weeks for, or, considering VZW's track record, maybe never.
This is how I'm looking at it- I'm getting to preview the latest update for free before it officially comes available. Just like those lucky bastards at Google I/O, except how much did they pay per ticket?
Thanks, devs, for doing what you do.

They paid $900 per ticket. But they get $1200 or so free of stuff. So they actually received 300 for going to it if you look at it that way.
Nevertheless I'm very pleased with JB. Everything is working beautiful for me. I using daily driver now without any issues. Just the stock JB at that. I'm not much for all the features of Roms. More into kernel tweaks which I do miss from glados kernel. But Franco is doing fine for now.

i think people are forgetting these roms are from nandroids! lol!
I most definitely appreciate the efforts. I ran the Vicious JB stock port on my VZW Gnex but in the end, I couldn't stick with it because the Verizon framework apps don't work on Jelly Bean yet. This means I couldn't use the My Verizon or NFL Mobile apps, and that's a deal breaker. I understand that you can blame Verizon for requiring the back end framework in order for their branded apps to work, and that's all fine and well, but at the end of the day, I couldn't run them.
Be that as it is, I still appreciate the efforts of those developers to have a working CDMA port the same night. Thanks to all who do what you do. I'm a software developer myself so I know how tedious this crap can be.
Half of the JB "hate" posts are not "my app doesn't work, JB sucks!" but rather "my app doesn't work, I'm posting it in case someone has stumbled upon a fix"
The problem is 80% of the people who own a GN are:

That sort of depends. There are some changes that have to be made to a ROM for the GSM model to be 'ported' to the CDMA models. So, it's a 'port' for those phones, because only the GSM developer preview was 'released'.
They do realize other top phones are just getting ice cream sandwich, and we Nexii already have Jelly Beans sweet taste in our mouths?? Ridiculous!

While you are rooted you will not be able to get OTAs
The developers that we have will take the official rom and make it custom once we get updates. Rooting wont block an OTA, it will just removes the root, you could reroot, or you could just install one of the custom roms with multiview, as the devs will update roms as soon as the official updates come along. There is really nothing to loose.

I am not convinced you are correct in the statement that "Rooting does not block OTA updates". I have my Galaxy Note 2 (paid full price but then Samsung is giving me $375.00 for my *old* Galaxy Note so I am not complaining) that is only rooted, no custom rom or tweaks. Every time I go to check for updates "Settings, About Device, Software Update" it always says "Update Interrupted, phone will check for updates in the next 48 hours". This seems to me like it is not actually connecting to the update server (I have tried over WiFi and over 4g with the same results).
Could be that you are right and I am wrong and my phone is not right, but everything else about my Galaxy Note II is AWESOME.
I am counting on Kies having the update as soon as AT&T does it OTA and I will just get it by direct connection to my laptop.

I am pretty sure every phone I have had that has been rooted ( 7 phones and 1 tablet) has been able to download updates some couldn't install them. Just last week my rooted nexus 7 was prompted for the 4.2 OTA and it updated successfully. There is a chance you'll lose root or even brick your device. So be careful.

I found out about the upgrade offer via email. It was a no-brainer to upgrade, although I was a bit hesitant because I like the Note 1 black color better.
Wtf note 1 trade 375. Sgs3 trade 275. Thats retarded. The 275 is better than craigslist moronic offers ive been getting. The note1 is outdated and less value than a sgs3. I dont get it the sgs3 isnt as old and far superior

Hey - it's rude to use the word retarded. You'll cry when you end up having a 'retarded' kid. Aside from that, I think the Note 1 is an alternative to the SG3. The specs are pretty much the same, but you get the bigger screen - unless you want the smaller screen.

Obviously you dont know what retard means and the note 1 compares in no way with the sgs3.

Today, Samsung announced that it would be pushing out KitKat to a slew of its Android-powered smartphones. Although we’re not precisely sure on specific dates for T-Mobile devices, the 4.4.2 update will be rolling out from today.
Among the list of devices being supported are the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S 4 and S 3 as well as others. Full press release below:
DALLAS, February 18, 2014 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) announced today that a number of Samsung Galaxy® devices will receive the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) software update, enriching the Galaxy experience.
The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications:
· Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
· Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
· Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
Samsung Galaxy U.S. devices currently scheduled to receive the KitKat update include select carrier variants of the Galaxy Note® 3, Galaxy Note® II, Galaxy S® 4, Galaxy S® 4 mini™, Galaxy S® 4 Active™, Galaxy S® 4 zoom™, Galaxy S® III, Galaxy S® III mini™, Galaxy Mega®, Galaxy Light, Galaxy Note® 8.0, Galaxy Tab® 3, Galaxy Note® 10.1, Galaxy Note® 10.1 2014 Edition.
Availability varies by carrier and product, with updates beginning today and continuing throughout the coming months.
If you have one of the Galaxy devices mentioned in the announcement, be sure to let us know when/if the update lands. T-Mobile isn’t always speedy when it comes to giving the green light to software updates on Android. Let’s hope these start to land pretty snappish.
Nice. going to have to Odin back to stock then.

Don't update, the bootloader might be locked. It best to wait for a dev to get a hold of the firmware and make it into a flashable rom that doesn't include the bootloader.

I am used to waiting to take updates being on VZW and what they did with breaking root with the Bionic and then the S4 fiasco. But why would Tmobile launch a phone with an unlocked bootloader only to lock it after an OTA update? It's one thing to patch an exploit, but to lock an unlocked bootloader when it was meant to launch unlocked I think would be stange. Again, I'm waiting anyway, but I think the phone will stay unlocked.
Not sure how excited I am for 4.4.2
No app ops. I can't believe google would intentionally remove a vital security feature. I guess we'll just have to add it back in

I agree! In fact, that's the first thing I thought about when I heard about the news.
We do, however, still have xPrivacy, though. I've donated to the developer and hopefully we'll see continued development including, I hope, a more user-friendly system closer to the way App Ops works. (For the record, I'm not knocking xProvacy; rather I'm pointing out that it could be easier to manage for laymen like myself.)

i'm guessing you are right. But you have to remember, it's not TMO that's doing it. It's all part of Sammy Knox initiative to make the phones more secure. If you have an unlocked bootloader, there's no way to say that your product is secure. We've picked apart the last 3 builds /na6/na7/nb3 of kitkat from germany, and there's alot of pointless crap built into these roms that will have to be pulled out to , along with the regular developmental crap that sammy puts in there for "Future Updates" Like fingerprints scanner perms and instructions, radios that will never be used, and something pointing to a backup antennae even though the phone does not have one (that's for the note 10.1)
I think they are being lazy, , making one huge TW Rom and then modifying it for individual devices. If you look at the S4 release and the Note 3 release, they are identical builds minus screen size settings and the addition of spen support.
Any idea when the TMobile update will be available? Sprint customers are getting theirs from today.
Some people from g+ are claiming to get the Sprint updates yesterday. Wonder if someone from TMO got updated too.
There is a complete silence regarding Tmobile update. Even the dog slow at&t has a leaked version out.
Apparently us cellular is getting their update as well.
Here's the link if any one is curious.

I've have been with tmo from the beginning of this computer like smart phone generation, and I will say we are almost always the last to get an update. .. Our wifi calling and wifi alone had a bug for 6 months now no update when other carriers got the fix. .. Just saying. ...
Evertime there's an update these discussions happen. ... When when when. .. sit back relax and flash someone else's rom. ... lol

I'm on a KK custom ROM on my Note 3 so I'm not getting it. Maybe I need to flash back to stock. I'm in TX too btw.

Apparently using Mobile Odin you can flash the update with rootkeeper and you keep Knox at 0x0 and get a rooted 4.4.2 (make sure you set it to reboot into download to flash the bootloader)
Details are in this thread:

I wish T-Mobile would herry the heck up!!!!

Yeah i can see where you're coming from. but I still don't think Sammy will lock it down, but we'll see.
TMO is busy now with their "marketing campaign" to attract new customers.. They have no time to do software updates for existing customers
Come on peeps cut them some slack

This is what I was afraid of when switching to TMO. Yeah I save money but at the cost of crappy CS service and very very slow to non-existant updates.

I loved that, too. It looks like Google disabled the functionality for devices that didn't get a factory KitKat ROM as of April 14th. I would post a link to the Google support page about it, but I'm too new to XDA to post links.
I started getting notices in the app over the last month, then the functionality disappeared on April 14th, just as it described. I'm not sure what the technical reason was, if any.

So they removed this for everyone? I thought i just screwed something up when i re set up after wiping and putting on a new ROM.
That blows. Loved being able to use GWallet.
that's ridiculous is there any sort of workaround in the works?
I've moved on to the Nexus 5 a few months ago but I don't remember that being an issue when I had the Galaxy Nexus. I was on Verizon and used Google Wallet just fine. I don't know if they updated something that broke it though.
Maybe the gnex doesn't have the host emulation thing?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
As I understand it, and I could very well be wrong, but I thought Host card emulation was a completely software driven system. No more need for the secure element on the Gnex anymore.

You are correct. If were lucky it might work again when they get the 3.4 kernel working.
