Flashing Rom question - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am currently on aopk right now and I am planning on flashing something else. The question is.. Do I have to put my phone back to stock to flash a new rom? What's the easiest way to flash a new rom while currently running a custom Rom?

Compete a full wipe and install the same way you did your current custom ROM. No need to return to stock.

Unless your going from an AOSP or AOKP or CM10 rom to a stock based rom such as Ultimatum that are on different versions of JB (4.2 to 4.1.1). You would most likely soft brick if you did not go back to stock first.
Other than that it is not necessary.

Actually it won't, you just have to do a factory reset to wipe data, then flash away. No need to flash back to stock.

Not really because if he has a rom with a different kernel other than stock he will be stuck with that kernel image if he doesn't flash/odin stock kernel first.

AOSP kernel maybe? I know some (all?) of the stock based ROMs don't flash a kernel. Just a guess, haven't gone from AOSP to stock.
Do you have a nandroid of a touchwhiz rom ? I go back and fourth to cm10 to my stock nandroid backup without issue. Try that.

What kernel did you use?

Kernel was on my mind today since I went from WanamLite to DietICS and suddenly WiFi stopped working. It was because I had flashed the faux123 kernel while on WanamLite and had to reflash it after going to DietICS. Little things I'll eventually get used to!

Yep definitely kernel, would a said so immediately as I had same issue. Always be weary of the kernel u have installed when flashing to new or different rom as many roms dont have a kernel with them. And many custom kernels will cause this issue. U got it figured out anyways so live and learn and keep it in mind for future

If I wanna upgrade to the official JB and my S3 is rooted with custom rom, is it safe to upgrade to official jb via Kies? Or should I go back to stock ics before upgrading?

If you want to go from a custom ROM to stock JB, Kies won't do it. You will need to flash via Odin. You will loose root and your custom recovery.

Link please ? Do that Odin program and how to flash JB on it
If you're going to have to use odin anyway, you should consider installing mrRobinson's root-injected stock jellybean rom. Then you won't have to worry about rooting it. Worked awesome on my stock rooted ICS with stock recovery. Also worked awesome on my son's stock rooted ICS with CWM. Here's the link. Everything you need to know is in the first post.

Either, just getting started with the gs3. I've had a one x and a nexus 4. I understand flashing to stock to wipe the sale prior to flashing new stuff, but if I wanted to go to complete stock from the manufacture.... If i were grabbing an ota or selling the phone.

yes.
firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
odin: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390275921635705049
if you go this route, after flashing the firmware, boot into stock recovery, wipe data and cache then reboot.
going to jump in here... do you know where I can find a flashable CWM stock ROM? One that is rooted? I am having a really hard time finding a non-ODIN based release. I'd like to stick with CWM
I just downloaded and flashed rooted stock firmware.
Search for upndwn4pr's thread on stock rooted roms in the Android development section.

If you flashed the latest Samsung Touchwiz 4.2.2 UVUAMDL stock firmware and replaced
the kernel with a modified or custom one then you are surely going to loose root access
and you will need to re-root the phone.
Good luck!

Generally speaking, flash, clear both caches and reboot. Some say fix permissions also. Either way should work.
