My S3 battery has been draining pretty fast since i installed an aokp rom called AOKP Android 4.2.1 ROM for AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747
Is it normal for this rom? & also, does anyone know a aokp jellybean rom that has awesome battery life?

Battery life is usually user dependent. I had good battery Task's AOKP (if that's what you're talking about). Perhaps downloading BetterBatteryStats could help you find out what's draining so badly

There is nothing major killing the battery. Do you recommend any roms that have good battery life for the i747 device?

Well, I suggest trying out different kernels, as that usually works out better for me than the one's packaged in the rom. So far LiquidSmooth Beta 2 has been the best for me. Also had good results with Task's AOKP and Illusion AOSP. However, YMMV.
I prefer the AeonFlux JB rom

Yes, that rom is a beast with excellent battery life and a stock-feel.
do you think you guys could provide links? because i cant seem to find it
thanks !
Here's AeonFluxx 2.5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059791
I know stats a generally user dependent.. however, people claim to get 3-4 hours screen on time... I can't ever get this and I feel like I run a lean phone... I maybe get 2.5 if I'm lucky... unless maybe if I stare at a black screen for 4 hours I might get 4 any ideas on how people can get 4 hours with normal usage(again I know that is user dependant) or is this something where.. yeah anyone can get 4 hours.. try air plane mode and stock apps only.. no 'light' or 'heavy' games...

I've tried CM9 and CM10 roms, but the idle for all of them is much worse than stock Kindle rom. I'm using Modaco custom Kindle rom, which is just as good (if not better) battery than pure stock, but I'm wondering if there's a non-Kindle looking rom (ICS or JB) that doesn't have poor battery life.
Thanks!
Nope... use cm7 it has excellent battery life ics and jelly bean will probably always suck like pigs when it comes to battery life..

That's a shame. Do you know why? Kernel issue I'm guessing?
My Galaxy Nexus is getting great battery with a custom kernel (Franco's), so it seems like other devices should be able to get good life with the right kernel. I wonder what's causing so much idle battery drain on the ICS/JB kernels.
Thanks for the info though! I might stick with Modaco since it opens up the market yet retains the good battery life.
I have a custom ROM install on my GS3 but my battery is kind of ****. I have juice defender installed with the aggressive setting but I still find my battery dies fast. So basically I would like to know if the battery is better on stock vs a custom ROM.

What ROM are you currently running? You'll definitely get better battery life out of a stock based ROM with a custom kernel, than an AOSP ROM like CM 10.1 or AOKP currently. As both those being 4.2 based still have bugs to be worked out. As always though YMMV with ANY ROM. Try out Better Battery Stats off the Play store and see if you are getting some weird kernel wakelocks. CPU Spy is another good free alternative.
Hi everyone,
I come from the original i9000 Galaxy S where I loved CM, but have upgraded to the S3.
Unlike the i9000, I actually do enjoy Touchwiz on the S3 so am willing to stick with it, but wouldn't mind trying CM10.1 or AOKP 4.2 just for a change. I am aware of their bugs (ie. bluetooth), but my main concern is BATTERY LIFE.
Presently, I'm on stock (rooted) and while I enjoy stock, the battery life has been crap for me since the JB upgrade. Because of this, I am looking to switch to either a custom TW rom or something AOSP.
From your experience, is battery life better or worse for you with Custom TW roms or with AOSP? If you answer Custom TW, can you please let me know which roms you prefer?
Thanks

No one can answer this because each device is different, each person uses their device differently and each device reacts differently to different settings. I'd say just try them out.

In my experience i've gotten better battery life on Touchwiz. Noticeably better using the phone in the same way.
So far my battery has been better than stock rom.
On the same setup i have better battery on aosp roms(using task aokp)

My battery is much better on AOKP than it was on TouchWhiz, however, my wife's battery is better than mine and she's on stock TW JB. Never can tell.
I currently am using WickedV6 and the battery life is fantastic. After a normal day, I normally have roughly 50-60% battery life when going to bed. Have not attempted any AOSP Rom on the S3. On my Captivate, the AOSP Roms ate the battery. Barely got through a 12 hour day without having to recharge.
I get about 5 hrs of screen time on AOKP before my phone dies.

Out of curiosity, are you guys all on wifi all day? I find my battery life to be ok when I'm on wifi, but unfortunately that is not an option for me at work so I am on HSPA+ all day.
Right now with new AOKP build, I am at 20% battery and my work day isnt even over yet....screen on time is only 40 minutes. I have Google Now and location services turned off, but can still barely make it through a work day with minimal screen time.
When I was on stock ICS, I remember going to be with 50% battery and 2 hrs screen time using HSPA+ all day.
I bought my Galaxy W and instantly started modding it, currently I'm on Arco's CyanogenMod 9 EOL, I didn't have much experience with the stock ROM you actually get with the phone, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4 UX.
My question is, is the stock ROM the most stable ROM with the best battery life you can get?
I would like to have some basic info like how smooth it is, the battery life, usability compared to the later CyanogenMod ROMs. I'd like to know whether its actually the best option except being kind of out of date now.
Thank you in advance :good:

From what I know the stock rom is better at keeping the battery use low during standby but i don't know whether that's true

I think that's true..
cause some Custom ROM come with some tweaks, some can keep the processor running low during standby. some also have some kind of better ram management.
Also if you want, you also can try some other kernel. cause some can even make longer battery life
switched for a tweaked stock 2.3.6 to a custom ICS and never looked back, the performance is just much better
I would say that my battery lasts longer with a custom rom. On stock sometimes it suddenly went off.
Currently I'm fine with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214042. And the camera isn't green.
Which rom is better on battery cause so far all the ones u have tried drain my battery like crazy :0/

have you tried slimkat? I use 4.3 because it's had the best battery life. have you ran betterbatterystats to see what's using the battery? you can do some tweaks to improve the battery life with whichever rom you like.

I've seem to notice the best luck with CyanogenMod 11 Nightly (01/01/13 build). The battery drain hasn't been as bad. I tried CyanFox 4.4.2 and I felt that drained a bit quicker than CM11. Have you tried CM11? I know it's not at a stable release yet, but CM hasn't come out with a 4.4 stable release yet in general.
Seems like a lot of roms are still trying to iron out the bumps. I can post some battery results once i've tried CM11 for the rest of the day here.
I have, it was okay. Idk how to do any tweaks >.< honestly scared to try when idk what i am doing. So i rather be on the safe side & not mess with it, but I noticed there isnt very many roms & etc done for this phone :0/ okay so what about any of the 4.3 roms good on battery?
I'm a major fan of mrfeuss's 4.4 OmniROM. Haven't come across any bugs and am able to pull close to 48 hours with lite usage and listening to music almost all day. The XDA release of viper4android also works extremely well with it. Able to drastically increase the bass of my Sony MDR-XB400's while maintaining amazing clarity.
Sent from my OmniROM 4.4 LG-E980
But you are getting good battery? Unfortunately i have to use my phone a little more than lite, more like medium usage & staying stock is jus ehhh annoying. Thank you very much everyone :0D I appreciate it.

A few phone calls, periodically texting, checking XDA and Facebook, surfing the web and listening to music. You could easily go a full day underclocked at 1.1GHz.
