(Solved) Almost Ready To Root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've worked up my nerve seeing as how everyone is coming to me to root their phones and this is only like my 4th root. Never had any issues before but I just had few basic questions before I fire up odin. Don't make this hard on an old timer please.
Q1- I can't recall but I'm pretty sure I need to push cwm before twrp right? Cant find a link to 4.1.2. Compatable cwm...you got one?
Q2- then i do a nand, and dl/flash rom? Tbh im a lil effed up on my anti-anxiety meds so go easy on an old war vet.
Actually i just need help getting odin to pass, then ill be in comfy waters...just need a few links.
Play nice now.

No odin is needed here. Install this bad mufuka here and itll root the phone in about ten secs. Then download either goomanager which will install twrp recovery or rom manager which will install clockworkmod.

Neither method I'm familiar (or comfortable) with. Dammit, you all went out and got too smart for me. I've never been good with apks.

The app uses a security hole in exynos processors to give root so u don't have to flash. U really can't screw it up

From the off position hold vol-up+home+power until you see the splash come up. then let go. or since you now have root use an app like quickboot or something from the market. Or if you flashed your recovery using goo/rom manager both apps have a reboot recovery option

Same as regular Odin pretty much. Press on "open file" or press the name of the partition you're flashing (recovery) and select the file. You may have to rename twrp from
"openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-i317.img" to just "recovery.img" if mobile Odin doesn't see it. Once its loaded up hit "flash firmware"

In goo manger, did you hit menu and install open recovery script as shown in the picture? That's what installs twrp. Make surr you grant root every time a window pops up.

I believe that it gets downloaded to the /cache partition, and it is usually some random filename. I'm pretty sure if you get logcat while it's downloading, it'll tell you at least the URL it's pulling the file from, and possibly even the save location. Maybe Trailblazer will be able to provide some more detailed info though.

Ok. I assume verizon will push the update to the same phone, twice. I know it isn't an issue on GSM, but I'm not sure about CDMA, with the way it's set up. If they do, I'll revert tomorrow afternoon and see if I can find it to pull it.
Trailblazer, if you read this, before then, Something a little more comprehensive would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have some n00b questions that I would really appreciate some help on...
1. Are these files also known as the "radio" and "kernel."?
EB01 = radio?
EC09 - kernel?
2. Do I have to rename them both to "update.zip" before I place them on my sdcard?
3. When I flash them from CWM recovery, do I select "install update.zip" or "install zip from sd card"?
4. Would it be a better idea for me to use an odin package (EC09 odexed)?
5. I already flashed to a build called "EC07_clean." Do I need to go back to a stock DL17 before I flash EB01+EC09, or can I just proceed from EC07?
Thank you to anyone who takes time to help me on these. I appreciate it!

1. Not really. I'm not the person to explain that, I'm sure Tx or one of the other, more experienced regulars could explain it better. EB01 only serves to fix OTA issues and prepare the phone for EC09. As EC09 is being flashed, the radio and kernel are patched/updated from DL17.
2. No. Leave them named how they are. Just be sure you know which one is which so you can flash them in the correct order. EB01, then EC09.
3. Choose "Install zip from sd card" and then navigate to where they are. Putting them on the root of the sd card makes it easier to find them.
4. You don't have to. I honestly find CWM to be easier as no PC required. Once again, one of the other regulars may have a better answer here.
5. Going back to stock DL17 and then flashing EB01/EC09 is the only way, I think. Going from EC07 to EC09 probably won't work.

OTA broke root procedure?

I've been trying to root my TMo GS3 since about 445am this morning. I can get into download mode, I can flash the .TAR. Phone reboots fine, When I reboot into recovery, I get the stock recovery every time. I've tried a few different versions of CWM and TW and I get the same thing every time, Nothing. I bought this phone used, 2 weeks old, and it has 4.04 on it. Anybody have any insight for me? This is not my first time tinkering either. I've been here since the Sprint Mogul, and I can usually get it figured out. But this time, I'm stumped. Any help?
ADDED: I've also tried "Flashed with ODIN agian, latest CWM Touch 6.0.1.2, deselected AUTO REBOOT and F. Reset TIme, waited for it to PASS installation, pulled battery " and it still DID NOT WORK. Got that from here http://androidandme.com/thread/att-galaxy-s3-wont-boot-into-clockworkmod-recovery/

UPDATE...I used this method and it worked
I think those are for the original build LE6 though.
Use odin to get your recovery installed but uncheck auto reboot.
When done unplug and hold power untill the screen turns off. Immediately let go of power and then press and hold Power + Volume up + Home. (Be quick)
When you see blue text flash on top of screen release power but keep holding other two until you get into recovery. (You may not have to keep holding home and vol, but its always wirked for me)
Now flash your SuperSU/Superuser and reboot.
Once booted delete/rename these files:
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
This will stop stock recovery from being rewritten.
Now using goo or rom manager reinstall recovery again if you so choose.
Hope that helps.

Yes, there is an issue with that since the touch screen is so much more sensitive on the S4, but it will be fixed soon. Team Win is working on it.

[Q] Missing instructions? Stuck with Heimdall

I want to flash a custom rom on my Note 2 from bell mobility.
I'm following steps from wiki called How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte")
When I type heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img --no-reboot, it gives me a message "heimdall is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
What am I doing wrong?
First of all what is your model number? Are you rooted? Custom recovery?

I'm not rooted. I'm following the steps in "Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy Note 2 LTE"
Samsung devices come with a unique boot mode called Download Mode which is very similar to Fastboot Mode on some devices with unlocked bootloaders. Heimdall is a cross-platform, open source tool for interfacing with Download Mode on Samsung devices. The preferred method of installing a custom recovery is through this boot mode. Rooting the stock firmware is neither recommended nor necessary.

Model number is SGH-i317M. M simply means Bell Mobility, they always add "M" at the end. Otherwise it's the same, no difference.

Thank you but this one is using odin I think. I heard that Heimdall is better. If you go to the cyanogenmod website and select Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte"), then you can click "How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte")" and it has the instuctions. This is the part I'm having a problem with. This is the guide they provide for the cyanogenmod, so it's kind of "official" and that's why I want to use it. Also when I'm stuck at something I want to figure it out instead of jumping from one thing to another. I don't understand why it's not working I'm following all the instructions. I'm wondering if anyone used the method I'm trying to use.
Have you installed Heimdall on your mac computer? You have to install it on your computer, NOT on your phone..
Then you place your phone in download mode, and run the heimdall command from your Mac..
AND, if instruction on XDA appear "too sophisticated" for you, then you are NOT ready to root your phone, trust me on this one..
But hey, its your phone, so go crazy....

Hahaha:good: It's just a matter of following steps. And from reading the guide I don't need to root my phone. I like when everything is complete and clear. After so many years I though it would become simpler to install a rom, not more complicated.
I have a PC, not a Mac. But how do I install it on my computer? It doesn't say neither how nor that I need to in the instructions.

They look sophisticated, but I can still do them. I flashed roms with odin on my galaxy s 2. However I already started with something so that's how I want to finish it. Also the creator of the rom provides instructions how to install his rom so that's why I want to do it that way.
Heimdall is for mac's not pc's, so if you want to install ANY custom rom on your phone, you need to be able to use Odin
and, you MUST root your phone to install Cyanogen mod or any custom rom, period, no matter what you might have read..

Don't be so negative. Isn't cyanogenmod the best rom out there for android? In that case I thought the best way to install it is to follow the directions the creators of this rom give you.
