First off, I have a Galaxy Note 2 N7100 (Pakistan), stock updated firmware, rooted, busybox'd and init.d'd. I have a few generic questions about my device.
First, the ones that worry me, in the order listed.
In Settings > More settings > Mobile networks > Network mode, I get auto, GSM and WCDMA. Is this normal? Shouldn't I get HSPA or similar? If it varies by country, where do I check? I'm sure it's an N7100.
Do all units shipped to all countries have Gorilla Glass 2? Mine got pretty easily scratched, way easier than my Nokia N8.
And the ones I think I know, but want to be sure about:
Can I flash another country's N7100 fw to my device? [Yes]
How do I retain data? [Just flash over, redo root]
And the most important of them all:
If the answer to the above two is yes and there is a way, which country is first in the update cycle yet has English (UK/US), French, German and Italian in the language packs?
And a side-question:
What's the difference between different countries' fw?
I won't mind if someone is kind enough to answer even one question, after all, you are taking time out of your daily schedule to do it. :cyclops: :highfive:
EDIT: Sorry, people tried to number them in sequence. Won't let me.

1. Mine also says gsm/wcdma and my hspa works perfectly.
2. Yes all come with gorilla glass 2. It is still scratchable by hard objects like sand. Its scratch resistant not scratch proof.
3. Yes you can flash another cou try fw as long as both are same model. Eg. N7100
4. I would do a backup and restore rather than flashing over just to be sure there are no problems. But it may work haha.
5. Not sure, but the polish and french were first to come out followed by india. I guess french would have most language packs.
6. Not too sure about last one haha

Okay first of all this is my FIRST unbranded international version of a phone and I use AT&T. Well this phone seems good. Besides the battery. Here are my ?`s
1. I ordered this phone from Overseas Electronics on amazing for 595 for a new white one. Anyone vouch for them?
2. My Phones Box is in English but a few things indicate its from India. Including in the software it says English - India (Would it being from india affect anything?) Good or bad?
3. What should my phones software be? right now my baseband is 1.1204.103.14 and my build is 1.28.720.10 Is this the latest?
4. I seem to have issues even it town with it liking to drop to edge more than my att branded galaxy note did. Anyway to fix this? (does it need a different modem or is the one on it good?)
5. How to you achieve good battery life? I have brightness turned down and it went from 100% down to 90 in maybe 20min of 1 or 2 texts (this is still the first day of owning)
Hi All. Looking at moving to the Note 2 but availability to purchase outright in Australia isn't so great at th emoment.
I have found a place that sells it outright but what stopped me was they are selling the N7105T with Vodafone branding and bloat wear even when bought outright. Damn.
Also I'm on Optus ($G 1800MHz) so assume the one less bandwidth of the LTE chip isn't gonna matter?
Now in the past I used to flash a lot of roms, but this time I'm likely to just be keeping up to date without voiding any warranty's.
As its the N7105T am I gonna have difficulties getting rid of the branding? I'm assuming flashing an unbranded N7105 rom is not advised and risky?
If I flash the N7105 rom I'm assuming the missing bandwidth of LTE in the phone isn't miraculously appear?
- So should I just wait for an outright N7105 rather than buy a N7105T?????
Thanks, Peter.
Yeh sorry but I'm bumping this up in hope someone can help with my decision... I know where a Note 2 is in stock in a shop... But don't wanna buy a N7105T when I should have waited a week and just get a N7105.
I'm assuming the N7105 gets more prompt updates than the N7105T?
So anyone with a N7105T that has unbranded their phone and unlikely voided their warranty if SDS appears?
Sorry to bump. Just surprised that no-one has commented when there is like 6 pages on a thread about whether to wait for the note 3
I don't know if I can help, but I'll give it a stab.
I'm in Australia and have just reconnected with Telstra and in the process got the Note 2.
My cousin works at a Telstra shop, and she worked out that should I lose the phone the very next day, my contractual obligation was no more than $450. At that price I almost got another contract to just sell the phone, but decided against it only because of the Telstra bloat. Anyways that's just a little extra bit of info...
Now to your question... Firstly there is surprisingly very little Telstra bloat, so the same may be the case with Vodafone. I have a Telstra app, but I just don't use it. You can tell the phone is from Telstra when u turn the phone on and off, but I rarely do that anyways.
If you just hate any bloat, I can't see why u couldn't flash another N7105 ROM; that is what I am planning on doing soon, but right at the moment I have no issues; the phone is fast, stable and had great battery life so right now I have no reason to change roms. But when I do, I just won't be flashing a new radio, then I'll be keeping the 4G.
Hope that helps u a little

So it ia safe to flash a N7105 rom on a N7105T? I read somewhere else of someone doing it but I also read the whole rooting thing is different so they must be different(other than the dropped 800MHz LTE or whatever it is). Edit: Just read the bit about flashing different modem/radio.. Oops me bad
My concerns are that with the SDS still in strike that I don't wanna void warranty just yet. Or has the SDS been ironed out?
Well they have em in stock. I'm just gonna get the N7105T and if the bloat or lack of updates hurts me, I'll just flash the PDA part with the more updated N7105....
Thanks All. Just been going round and round in circles with finding these were a different model, then finding no outright stock in Sydney...... And the main thing that's made me more desperate is my launch S2 (so ~24 months old) has died but I did drop it numerous times and think it developed a short in the main board over time. Been using a Nokia something-ararver that must be one of the first models with colour screen cause it has nothing else more than the 5110 other than slightly smaller. But the battery life is brilliant on it
Go for it mate!
Regarding what I think u are talking about the sudden death thing, from what I read it only related to certain batches. The phone really has been out for a while now so the chances u end up getting a phone from an early batch is pretty slim.
Go into a Telstra shop and chat to them about the phone. Ask them what would be your financial obligations should something happen to your phone in the first week or so. You might find yourself pleasantly surprised... u can then get a cheap phone on the network of your choice. It doesn't bother me though as I would not go with any other carrier. I'm happy with Telstra.

Works gonna pay for the phone so its sort of cheap anyway :silly:
Well after all that I turned up at the shopping centre and walked past Allphones which said they had to stock only a few days ago. thought I'd try my luck and they had the N7105 outright... So went that.
Thanks for your help though.
You can mitigate carrier bloat by disabling the apps (no root needed).

I got the 7105T from telstra, once you delete the widgets you pretty much dont see much of telstra.
I basically achieved root via odin/chainfire method, and then shut down telstra/samsung bloat (some uninstalling/freezing) via system tuner.
as Im new to sammy phones all I need to find out now is how to do backups and install a kernel for undervolt
unbranded note 2
Hi all
I unbranded my note 2 by asking very nicely at the Samsung store in Sydney. I think they just flashed it with Odin as I didn't get any update to 4.3... so I flashed 4.3 with the unbranded ROM from sammobile.
The unbranded Australian ROM is XSA suffix.
Please note: my phone hasn't been root.
Also from My research the only difference between the n7105 and the T variant is the modem so if you flash any Au roms you should still be all good.
Hello ppl,
I want to make my phone that I'll get in May as much Russian as possible. I want it not just to be all Google apps Russian, but all possible apps to be Russian, and so that whenever an update comes out, be it in Russian as well. I guess all I need for that to work is to download a Russian firmware. But is there one? I'm not sure, so I'm asking you. I've been in search for it for so long, I don't want to talk about it. All I want is to make my phone Russian in all ways possible. Thank you.

if you want that much russian, you'll want to look into the international based GN2. I don't know if there is a CDMA international model you'll be able to use on Sprint; I assume not.
If you want to stay with Sprint service, you could probably get most of the apps from someone which an international model. The apps that may be hardware dependent may not work. Some Sprint apps won't have a Russian equavelant such as Sprint TV. If you know how to some programming, you can probably edit the ROM/firmare and translate the rest of the test, such as those withing the phone's setting area.
Honestly, I think it would be easier to get the international model. You can probably find Roms/frimware in Russian. I assume the international is sold someone in the Russian region.
No, I don't know programming, and International version doesn't support CDMA, only GSM. Sucks if there is no any chance to make it Russian...
You might be able to change the language to Russian. There is an app for rooted Samsung phones that unlocks the hidden language files. I installed it once just messing around. I don't know if it has russian listed, or if that will help at all?

I'm afraid, it only enables hidden languages. It doesn't install any. Did you try it yourself? On Sprint's SGNII? Did it work? I don't think so, because I think that the people there at Sprint just wanted to make more free money, and so they just wanted to save some as well, and so asked Samsung to put only 3 default languages. As for me, it's a discrimination against Russians. What if I wanted to send it to Russia after 2 years?
Then you should buy one from that side of the world. Sprint is in the USA why should they worry about other languages besides the dominant ones?

Sometimes I'm just amazed of people that think they're the smartest people in the whole wide world. As far as we all know, there are only "3" versions of SGNII - 7100, 7105, and CDMA. CDMA version was originally made for USA: Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular. I don't think you'll be able to find any other "non-Verizon/Sprint/US Cellular" version of CDMA Note II in the world.
And btw, in the world's point of view, Russian is in fact dominant. Even though it takes only fifth place, it's still one of the most popular languages in the world. After all, Spanish language speak (googled it up) over 406 million people, Chinese - over a billion. Again, if you didn't read/understand it from the first time, it's only if we're talking about world (Quote: "Then you should buy one from that side of the world.")
Once again, a little note about language domination: Native English speakers are only 375 million people.
I mean, if all major nationalities were to make their language official in US, how many languages would there be?
There are no CDMA service providers in Russia, but former USSR - there are a lot of such. I saw one Sprint's phone working there; it was unlocked, and so CDMA phones can and will work there.
I heard something about Cyanogenmod. What can you tell me about that? Should I try that?
And please, don't whine that I'm p... you off, I'm not.
Russian mobile companies use two standards GSM 900/1800 (European standard) and CDMA (American standard). A single cell phone can’t be used in both standards. So, check your phone instruction to find out which standard it is operationg in.GSM is far more popular in Russia and all the leading national operators use it in their networks, CDMA is used only by several local providers (in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Irkutsk), so the biggest problem with CDMA is that you won't be able to use the same telephone in several cities. As most cellular networks in Russia operate in GSM 900/1800 standard, you can use the mobile telephones that support this type of network only.
Seems like to me it would just be easier to have a gsm phone if you wanted to take it to Russia and would be easier to get Russian firmware on it also. ..

Hi
I don't know if I am asking in the right place but if someone knows the answer I would really appreciate it.
I found a good deal on a Note ll that would save me a lot of money, only thing is I'm with Windmobile/Canada (which uses 1700/2100 frequency/bands and AWS network similar to T-Mobile in the USA as some of you know) but the phone isn't (works with Rogers, Bell, Fido...).
Now, I'm just dying to know, is there ANYTHING I can do to make the phone work with Wind? I've read and read and read I can't find a definitive answer. Some people selling Note ll phones on Craigslist claim their phones work with any carrier including Wind or Mobilicity. But some people say no way in hell that's possible.
So, please, can someone give me an answer to my question? Yes or no?
Thanks.

Yes, it is possible. There is an unlock method before upgrading to 4.1.2. When the Note II came out with 4.1.1, there is a method used (go to the general forums to find more about this) without rooting the device.
If I were you, though, I would not trust online purchases of the Note II. Some people claim it stolen after you buy it so they get compensation for it if they have insurance for their phone.
Sent from my SGH-T889V using xda app-developers app
Caveat emptor. There are stolen devices out there, and fraudulent sellers.
With this disclaimer out of the way, your sellers with I317Ms claiming they'll work on Wind and Mobilicity have simply applied the mod outlined in this thread which you could do yourself.
If I were to buy another Note 2 via classifieds now, I'd pick a locked I317M (I'd avoid a locked BMA3 running T889V due to its modem-related bootloop issues), flash its initial release modem with Odin, unlock, update, and apply the AWS mod. (Granted I'm using Virgin Mobile, but having AWS could come in handy stateside with a T-Mobile prepaid SIM.)
Thanks kennyglass for moving my question to the right place. I wasn't sure where to ask because I'm not a frequent user of this site.
Thanks a million to Crinkypops and Darkshado for answering my question. I appreciate that. The good news is that now I know it is possible to make the phone work on an AWS network. The bad news is I have no clue how to do any of that stuff myself. I have zero experience or knowledge in this stuff, which means l'll probably have to get someone else with the necessary expertise to do this for me.....if l can find one.
Now a couple of things, if I get a new phone (factory unlocked) and it's already 4.1.2, would it be possible to change it to the older 4.1.1 ?
Is doing all the stuff you guys told me about involve rooting or whatever? I really don't want to mess up the phone with changing all kinds of things on it because I don't want to get stuck without a phone if something goes wrong and like I said I don't know anything about this stuff.
So, what if I buy a phone that was made to work with Wind or T-Mobile, would it be possible to modify it to make it work with other companies too? I really don't know why things have to be this complicated.
You have to start somewhere, it'll take a fair amount of reading, but it can be done.
Aside from their previous Nexus models, as of writing these lines, there's no such thing as a "factory unlocked" phone for Samsung Canada. All the SIM-unlocked devices you encounter were sold through carriers, and originally locked. Some sellers might also have grey market imports that were indeed never locked, but that's beyond the scope of this discussion, since we're interested in the North American variants of the Note 2.
You can downgrade the ROM back to 4.1.1 on all Canadian Note 2 variants, although I wouldn't try it on the T889V because it's been known to cause issues. Seems like there's a bug specific to this model.
You said you didn't want to be stuck without a phone if things went wrong, how about having a backup phone? The nice thing with two Android phones is that it's easy to keep their contacts and calendars synchronized.
The downgrade-to-unlock procedure can be done entirely using official (leaked) Samsung ROM images and tools, and does not require root. Done properly it will not trip the custom flash counter.
The AWS mod uses hidden factory built-in menus with leaked (QPST/QXDM) or reverse engineered tools (NV reader-writer / CDMA Workshop / EFS Pro). Again, it doesn't involve root and won't trip the flash counter. I317Ms that have had the AWS HSPA mod applied still work with their original carriers as before.
Thanks again, darkshadow.

You can check it at the bottom of the box with the IMEI. I would advise you to actually go on the phone, though, and go to settings>about phone and then you'll see the IMEI, baseband, and model number in there. Make sure that the IMEI matches with the box. Some people steal phones and then just buy boxes so beware.
Good luck on your purchase!

Thanks again, crinkypops. I will. I first have to find out if the phone the guy can get me is an i317m and I'll go from there.
Well, looks like the only option I have is to buy a used Note II on CL. My "friend" who was going to hook me up with a new phone through a buddy of his is an unreliable scum bag of a "friend" and I'm not going to bother with him any more.
So now I'm looking on CL but I'm trying not to buy any phone unless the seller has the sales receipt to make sure I'm not buying something that's stolen. However, some sellers don't want to give the receipt -although willing to show it- because it has their personal information and my question is, would the receipt have the ID # (if that's what it's called) of the particular phone printed on it? If the phone is still under warranty, would it be possible to get it repaired (if there's a need) without a receipt?
Any other advice on how to avoid getting scammed buying a phone on CL?
Thanks.
Which city are you from? I am in vancouver and might consider selling if the price is right. I have the box and receipt. Phone is rooted running x14 with wind. Its still locked though.

I'm a bit confused. Some guy is telling me I need to get the T889 and not the i317m if I want to use my phone with Wind, but from the answers here and from what I see on CL that can't be correct. Am I right? He says the i317m will be slow and unstable. Speed of T889 vs i317m : 42 mbps vs 21 mbps. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Yup mine was purchased directly from wind.

Hmm, the guy isn't completely wrong, but he's not completely right either...
The (Canadian) T889V and I317M as well as the (US) T889 and I317 are all capable of 42 Mbps DC-HSPA. The 21 Mbps numbers you might have seen are due to AT&T's HSPA network not supporting dual channel operation, unlike most (all?) Canadian HSPA networks.
The T889 and T889V work on AWS HSPA carriers like Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron or T-Mobile USA out of the box. (The T889V won't work on LTE if you decide to switch back to Robellusfivirkoo, but that's another story, and there's also a way to enable that.)
The I317 and I317M won't, but are very easy to modify in order to enable the AWS HSPA you'll need. There have been a handful of reports of flaky connections on the AWS mod thread, but the ratio is so low that I'm lead to wonder if: there's an undocumented hardware revision for which the mod won't work, their phones or cellular networks had other issues, or if those trying to apply it did something wrong along the way.
I haven't checked Kijiji or CL for phones in a while, but I do recall the T889V commanding a slight premium over the I317M at one point because they were rarer.
Thanks again guys for replying. Man this has given me a lot of headache. Get a Wind Note and get it over with or get an i317m and mod it (have someone do it for me) to get it to work with AWS? I guess listening to what you guys had to say, plus asking a local cell phone shop is making me feel confident that it IS possible to get an i317m work on the AWS without any problems. Now, I think I'm going to take my chances and look for one on CL. In the worst case scenario if for some reason it gives me a headache I'm assuming I can have the process reversed (restore it to its original system) and I'll just sell it and get me a Note that was made specifically for Wind.
To those who helped me and answered my questions, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Just noticed the i317. So I guess there's an i317 and an i317m. Did some reading but the only difference I can see is that the "M" model is for the Canadian market. Am I right? Does an i317 work in Canada just fine?
The AT&T I317 should work just fine. But, (there's always one, isn't it?) its baseband has some "annoying" limitations (RAT lock is the term you'll want to search) that prevent you from toggling between network modes easily, i.e. you can't switch it between GSM only, WCDMA only, GSM/WCDMA/LTE like you can the Canadian model. Plus there are all the import related considerations you have to keep in mind (taxes and brokerage fees), plus buying something expensive sight-unseen.
The other differences are more benign and software-related. Nothing that can't be fixed with some ROM-flashing, like non-Robellusfivirkoo CSC settings.

Thanks for the reply and the info. I just got an i317m. Finally.
Hello.
Here's the back story. Bought my phone from Egypt unlocked s20 plus. Recently moved to canada and trying to get samsung pay to work. Downloaded the app from google play canada but it says that device is not supported. Downloaded it from APK mirror but it just says it needs to update, even though this is the last version.
I was told that getting the BTU or DBT CSC might fix this, since they come preinstalled with samsung pay.
First of all, can I do this by just flashing the firmware (not changing CSC)? Or do I need to change the CSC using samkey? I don't mind flashing first, if that didn't work then using samkey. But would rather go with the route that people think will work straight away.
I'll write all my device's info that I think might be needed to make this as complete as possible. Then I'll put some questions that are confusing me.
So to start this, I bought my phone from Egypt and I'm currently in Canada. Since it's a dual sim model, I have a Canadian SIM as my primary and Egyptian as my secondary. Currently, I'm getting wifi calling but not VoLTE. Reading a bit on this, some people are saying that my network intentionally locked people out of this option if they didn't buy the phone from them. My network is Fido btw.
Model: SM-G985F/DS (4G)
Product Code: SM-G985FZADEGY
PDA: G985FXXU4BTIB
CSC: G985FOXM4BTID
Basebad: G985FXXU4BTI6
Bootloader: G985FXXU4BTIB
September Security Patch.
One thing I'd like to point out is typing "*#243203855#" in the dialer does nothing. Maybe it's because it's not supported? Or the fact that I have dual IMEI?
Questions:
1. Is there benefit of using DBT over BTU?
2. With my bootloader being BIT 4 (I think?), can I use samkey? When I checked it, it said that they only support BIT 1 and 2 on their website. I could be wrong.
3. Is it safe to purchase samkey credits off ebay?
4. Is samkey itself safe? It showed up as a trojen when I installed it. Could be a false positive? Downloaded from the official site btw.
5. Is flashing BTU enough for this to work or do I need to change the CSC?
6. Can I revert any changes that I've done to restore the device in its original state? If I change the CSC, can I revert it back to EGY?
7. Will I get normal OTA updates while I'm here in canada? This applies to both flashing and/or changing my CSC?
8. I would love to keep wifi calling, call HD, and hopefully get VoLTE (but I understand that this might work). And obviously the main reason for this whole thing is getting Samsung Pay to work.
Sorry if these questions might be obvious, I'm really trying to understand this so I don't ruin anything and don't regret anything.
If someone is willing to help me further, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am unsure about majority of the things you have question about, but one thing i know for sure - samsung pay on my s20+ was rarely working making me look stupid at the shops - since i switched to google pay all issues are gone and payment is going through everywhere

The one thing that I care about with samsung pay is the magnetic card replication. I forgot what it was called MTP, or something? This is something that doesn't work with google pay.

The MST function was disabled in 2019 for all the smartphones sold within the EU (at least) due to a new regulation regarding MST technology.
I don't know if it's working elsewhere.
Still, for me SPAY has been working flawlessly for over an year or two, never had any problem, with or without MST

Oh? This might actually be useless than. So this is a hardware change or a software one? Since mine was bought from Egypt. I plan to flash the UK software on there. I'm not sure if it'll have it or not in this case. I guess without MST, what's the point of using samsung pay over google pay?
