works great! open the cover shuts screen off right away and open it turns the screen on. no modification to the cover or phone required!
the app is called smart cover and is in the play store
you mean close* the cover and the screen turns off.
Haha yea. Close the cover shut off the screen

I've been enjoying this app just for a few hours. After a couple of days, I've noticed it consumes a lot and it also provokes annoying issues when I approach a finger to the proximity sensor accidentally. This can happen while playing for example.
It'd be better with a config menu to choose a minimum elapsed time between turning the screen on and off.

Is there a way to turn off the Note 2 by just closing the flip cover that I have bought? I note that I can swipe my hand sideways across the screen and get a screen shot, turn the phone upside down to stop music ... but is there a setting that detects when a palm is placed over sensors or the phone is laid on its front or if a cover is closed?
This thread may help

I owned a smart cover for my galaxy note 8.0, it can work properly like sleep and wake.
But here's the problem come,
usually the cover is cover the front of the tablet, but when we use it, we will flip the cover to the back of tablet.
while the cover touched the back side of the tablet, it will also put it as sleep.
so, how to disable smart cover auto sleep?
i had tried the "Lock instantly with power key", but it required at least security of "pattern"
Any ideas?
Need help! THANK YOU!:good:
I guess something is wrong either with your cover or device - putting the cover on the back should never put the device to sleep.
I don't recall anybody reporting similar problems here, also the small sample we have at home (2 notes + 2 covers) behaves correctly.
The best thing (although it's probably easier said than done) would be to establish which one is malfunctioning and have it replaced if possible.
otoh I would also be interested in a way to disable the cover on/off function - mine is so sensitive, that even the slight move of the front part wakes the device, causing increased battery drain and making betterbatterystats readings useless.

thanks, but that's not it, my problem is sensitivity to magnets in the cover, not the home button

I have seen that happen a lot with ipad cases. Its due to a poorly designed case.

It happens all the time to me. Put it nicely in the back. Not a single bit cover the front. Shake the device a little bit. The cover hits the back of the device, make some noise and screen turns off. Magic. As if the device can sense magnet even by its back. But when it sits really tightly that no space bw it and the case, problem solved by put on some sticky tape in the back.
Smart cover not smart at all T^T~ but original case without having that problem right?
Smart cover problem
Still looking for a way to disable the software that causes auto sleep/wake.
The problem with some covers is that they are not authentic from the manufacturers. The original Samsung case for Note 8/N5100 has the correct magnetic power in the case flap. The other covers have a magnet that is too strong so when the flap is in the back the magnet still effects.
I surgically cut the magnet out of the cheep cover and closed it back up. Disabled auto wake with the modification. I am guessing the same could be done with the original authentic Samsung case but it is hard to cut the little magnet out because its built in seamlessly so you cant see the exact location of the magnet.

Original Samsung book cover should not have that problem. i have been using the book cover for almost five months and not facing said issue.
I’m using an origami case with the tablet. The flap unlocks the screen just like it should when I flip it open. When I close it though, it doesn’t lock the screen. Sometime its fine as I’ve set the screen to turn off in 30 seconds. However, I noticed that XBMC keeps the screen on and I end up finding a dead battery the next day because the cover didn’t turn off the screen.
Do I have a faulty sensor? Its not the case because I tried another case/cover and it does the same thing.
Thanks

If the "other" case was the same make and model it doesn't prove much. There have been tons of issues with non-Samsung flip and book covers across multiple device forums. Go to Best Buy and try an official case. If it works it's not your sensor.
bought another case today, this time the poetic slimline. just like the origami case, it auto unlocks the screen when opening, but doesn't auto lock when closing. tried the case on a friends 10.1 2014 and auto locking work so its definitely my tablet and not issues with the case...i'm not sure if its hardware or software as i'm running cleanrom w/ bindroid kernel. any suggestions? its not annoying enough to sent in for a fix since i can simply use the GMD gesture to quickly turn off the screen but its still a mystery to me.
thanks
edit: flashed the bindroid rom and now the tablet auto sleeps and wakes with the cover...i guess it was the software...
I don't want to drain my 360 battery therefore usually when I wear a coat I disable the tilt function, but I wonder if I should disable/enable anything else to prevent the screen from turning on automatically or by accidentally tapping it?

having a mostly nylon/fleece lined coat i haven't had this issue. haven't even considered leather causing this problem.
Just enable Coat Mode.

I wish the watch had a proximity sensor, so the screen would automatically turn on when you pull your sleeve back - and stay off when covered...

I find the watch last ages in aero plane mode when you need to connect to phone when driving then enable the aeroplane mode but if you want really good battery life do aero plane mode
I've noticed when I make a phone call the screen will sometimes stay black and won't come back on. Horrible when the person does not answer and I have to wait for the voice-mail limit to be reached or I have to pull the battery. I recently added tempered glass but I doubt that's what the problem is. Any ideas?

I've also notice that if my screen is off for a while, double tapping the screen won't work but if I press the power button on back then double press the screen it shuts off and if I quickly double tap again screen turns back on. Temper glass the culprit you think? I mean sliding through pages and pressing screen items works perfectly.

temper glass is real culprit here

I had a same problem started but after i put tempered glass as it block proximity sensor hence you get problem. I removed T.G now it works smoothly.
Don't be too quick to dismiss the tempered glass as the culprit, if it covers the proximity sensors. A lot if people have reported issues like this, if using TG protectors that don't have the cutouts for the sensors, near the front-facing camera.

Someone just told me the knock on feature might be affected by the sensor as well which I didn't think about. The sensor is definitely covered by the glass. Guess I need a new one. Thanks guys.
