PC Not Recognizing Note 2 via USB - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the samsung drivers at least 4 times, rebooted phone and pc multiple times, tried 3 different PCs and still nothing.
Nothing(other than charging) pops up on the PC's or the phone when I plug it in. I have tried checking USB debugging several times.
Any ideas?

This just started happening to me today as well haha
Can't figure out why either

Did you get the current drivers from Samsung's site?
How about flashing any recent changes on the phones?
Does it indicate anything on the phone?
Any info - no matter how trivial it may seem - would help. Thanks!

I just got it to work by using the OEM usb cable that came with the NOTE 2.
Previously, I had tried 2 different htc cables, an LG cable and a random generic one. Really odd that it was the cable.

It was this way with the E4GT as well. Explanation I was given at the time was that the pin connections are longer on Samsung than most. That's why most cables except Samsung and BB cables fail on data but fine on power.

I've used the same cable the entire time. It's still not recognizing it.

Yeah it's the one that came with the phone. I tried another cable and still doesn't work. I don't know what changed with my phone. I've done nothing notable to it.

Please post all questions in Q&A

Right click the usb icon in the task bar and find your phone in the devices. Then trouble shoot it. I have to do this just about every single time I want to connect and transfer something.

hey guys am new here so sorry for my first post being a problem
ok so im kinda new to the android scene after many years of apple products i can safely say i wont be returning lol very impressed and gutted i didnt switch to android a long time ago...
anyway the problem i have is that after doing a lot of reading and browsing this forum i installed a few different kernels and then started with roms, and now discovered neither Bluetooth or usb works Ive tried many different things including restoring back to stock rom and kernel rebooting several times both PC and phone, ive tried a few other things that seemed to fix for others i installed the drivers at least 9 times now and kies over and over, also tried the galaxy note tool kit but it just wont see the phone it just charges it ive also tried a different cable and the same problem is there... the only option ive not tried is to completely remove root and start again, but the problem i have is that if that doesn't fix it is that i wont be able to root again through odin,
Ive enabled usb debugging etc also nothing im really lost with this now as want to transfer files that's when i realized Bluetooth wont switch on either
i upgraded to 4.1.2 with the omega rom also and still the same now am back to 4.1.1 through a saved restore
so pls any advice or pointers would be amazing

Error is on the phone or PC? And what cable are you using? It should be the stock white cable - even the S2 cable doesn't work for me.

This is correct. I rooted a Note II last night using the white cable. The easiest way is to enable us debugging on the phone and issue the command from your:
adb reboot download
Once it is in download mode you can push your md5 with Odin

Indeed. I did try using a Nexus 7 usb cable and wouldn't recognize my phone but only to charge it not as a usb device. I then plugged another cable that it came with a spare S3 that I have and that worked for me.

i think it shoud be *#7284#

usb/mtp/ptp
I have CM12.1 on SPH-L900, when I go to settings>storage and click USB computer connection, it says USB is disconnected, I don't get the MTP/PTP menu.
I've tried in debug mode, I've tried *#7284#, and many others but none bring up a phone util screen. any help would be, helpful.
I used CWM to install.
edit: so I grabbed every cable I had and one worked, happened to be for a kodiak camera.

[Q] USB/Computer connection issue

Hello XDA!
I don't want to post a wall of text (not that tall of a wall, at least), so, I'll try to get to the point quickly. And yes, I have done a lot of searching, both on XDA and Google, and that will be proved soon enough with the solutions that I've tried so far.
The problem I'm currently experiencing is when I connect my phone to my computer, it charges but it isn't recognized. There is no USB notifications, no phone in My Computer, and no Windows pop up, whether it's a pop up asking me to install drivers or an unknown device has been connected, nothing. Mind you, everything has been working flawlessly, this just randomly, and I really do mean randomly, started happening. The phone has never been dropped and there is no water damage. I'm still using the USB cable that came with the phone. And, if it matters, I'm rooted, running the leaked LI8 JB ROM, stock kernel, and UVLEM baseband.
Here's a list of said solutions that I've tried so far:
Using a thin paint brush, wet the tip a little with alcohol and tried cleaning out the USB port
Connecting to a different computer, connecting with a different cable, connecting to any other USB ports on the computer
After making Nandroid backup: Data wipe/factory reset, flashing a different ROM
Remove Samsung USB drivers and reinstalling, also tried installing Samsung Kies
Uncheck USB debugging and restarting, checking USB debugging and restarting
Dialled *#7284#, select Modem, then reselect PDA, changing Qualcomm USB settings and changing it back to MTP + ADB
Turn off phone, remove battery for 30 sec, reinsert and boot up (soft reset to reset internal circuitry as described by a Samsung live chat service tech)
I might've left out a couple, but please do enlighten me of methods that you might know, I'll be sure to try it or let you know if it's already been attempted.
..also, when connected to my PC, under Settings > Battery, it shows "Charging (AC)" IIRC, this should be showing "Charging (USB)".
This next attempt stood out to me. I decided I would try and go back to the stock firmware, one where I would have to use Odin3. So, I put the phone in Download Mode, open up Odin3, connect the phone, and I get a pop up in Windows! It's trying to install drivers, and fails. I can't flash the stock Samsung firmware if I wanted to, even for warranty purposes. I do currently have the USB drivers installed, but my PC hasn't gone through the driver installation for when the phone is connected to the computer. So, I'm assuming that is why this is failing? I'm not entirely sure. But, when I saw this, I unplug the phone and plug it back in numerous times, to rule out that this might be a hardware problem. And, every time I plug it back in, it tries to install the drivers but fails. So, it's detecting my phone in Download Mode. I reboot and hope that it will detect normally, but no, it doesn't...
As a last resort, I went to Samsung.com and chatted with a service tech, he runs me through two procedures that I haven't done, the 'soft reset' and a 'master reset', which is done through Settings > Back up and Reset > Factory Data Reset. Neither worked, so, he then checks my IMEI and finds that I am still under the 1 year warranty and files a ticket for repair service. I asked him if there is a replacement warranty and he says that is done through my service provider (T-Mobile) with the Premium Handset Protection service, which I didn't add. Not because I didn't want to, but I can explain in later posts if someone is interested in why it wasn't added. So, now I have the return label in my inbox ready to be printed, taped onto a box containing my phone, and sent out. But, I can't go through with this because I have a custom ROM on the phone. There is no counter because I've already used Triangle Away, AFTER this started happening.
I am completely stumped... Any information is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Also, I've disassembled the phone to check the MicroUSB port to see if any pins or prongs might've came loose. Everything is in tact.. I also wanted to see if the MicroUSB port was replaceable because I was able to find a spare MicroUSB ports on a website. But, it seems that the port isn't easily replaceable. It doesn't look removable, and I'm uncertain if it can be de-soldered to solder a replacement one on. Also, some thing caught my eye when I had it disassembled. There were two components of the phone that had SGH-I747 imprinted on them. I wasn't able to take pictures as I was in a rush to get it put back together, but thought it was of interest to bring up.
How do you have a custom ROM if you flashed the stock one? I'm confused..
Try installing drivers through the toolkit.
If windows recognized it in Download Mode, keep trying to unplug and replug the cable in the same and different ports until it installs?
This happened once on my Galaxy S 4G.
Uninstall all related drivers, kies, etc. Restart pc and download and install these drivers. (Should be latest)
http://d-h.st/zya
Or download and install latest version of kies. Drivers included.
Try connecting again.

I was never able to flash the stock firmware because my computer fails to install drivers for it. I've also tried using the drivers from the toolkit and it gave me no results.

I currently have the latest Kies installed. I'm going to uninstall and give that link a shot, though. Hopefully, Odin3 will be able to detect it, at least, so I can get the stock firmware back on this thing...

Thank you for your input, but I doubt this would work in my situation. Ive tried connecting it to my laptop and another computer in the house and they both do not detect the phone. However, i would consider going that route as a last resort if there arent any other ideas.. i just need Odin3 to recognize it so i can revert and send it back in..
Any other suggestions, XDA? And thank you to those that responded!

[Q] USB Device Not Recognized

I bought a Korean Note II (SHV-E250S) and my computer wasn't able to recognize it from the get-go. Now, I installed a rom that caused my phone to be stuck at the first screen and I can't connect my phone in download mode to restore it. I tried a different cord (supposedly OEM), reinstalling kies, downgrading kies, installing just Samsung USB drivers, uninstalling the unknown device driver, shutting down the computer, installing updates, reupdating kies, emergency software recovery/upgrade, switching USB ports, USB debugging on/off (when the phone still worked). I'm literally out of things to try. Any help will be appreciated.

No. Sorry. I made a back up in clockwork recovery but I get an error MD5 mismatch.
Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43)
The phone is now soft bricked and I get Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43 I sold it to someone with a T-Mobile rom and N7100 clockworkrecovery. They updated clockworkrecovery and now the phone just boots into recovery and then restarts. I cannot get the phone to connect to the computer at all. I get an error. I have tried talking with support but they tell me to try everything that I have already done, such as; different usb ports, cords, computers, had the usb port replaced, reinstalling software (all of them), and restarting download mode.
any development?

Some search on google told me that we need to fix the usb pin.
Im not yet trying it. Im afraid it will cause another problem. So i leave the phone as it. Even though i cant do anything to update the phone. (Maybe i do have change to update the phone, but it will take a risk)
Try to fix your usb port pin.
On the phone? I had the pins on the USB port replaced and I bought a new USB port from China with no help. I also tried 5 different computers (both mac and pc) as well as different oem USB cords.

I Don't believe the Stock recovery lets flashing any zips. If the USB port is truly broken hardware wise, go for repair.
Perseus is correct. The only update.zip stock recovery will work with is for an OTA.

I don't know about that, might it be you don't have the correct drivers, can you verify the USB is getting power? And for getting a stock .zip to flash, can't you just take your sdcard into an adapter, place it on there, and place it back into your phone and flash from there? Or am I missing something and it's not that simple?

[Q] Updated firmware now think USB debugging is broken

I recently updated the firmware on my M7 thru santo040 [ROM]|Radio|Firmware post. I was on 4.10.605.3 and upgraded to 5.28.605.2 , I also updated the radio as well.I am currently on BONESTOCK v4.3. I did this process at work and everything worked. As I got home and plugged my phone in the wall charger I noticed a slow charge notification. I selected don't show this again and hit ok. As i got to work the next morning i wanted to change to the dark boot screen. But when I plugged the phone into the PC this time I get a windows error stating that this usb device malfunctioned. So I thought it was the driver so I reinstalled the driver and get the same error. I even plugged it into my home PC and get the same error. Has anyone experienced this issue? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

That slow charge notification is generally only seen when using a non oem cable.
Best I can suggest at this point, is trying a different cable and a different usb port.
I know you said you tried from two different computers and several cables, but something isn't right, or the pc should recognize the device properly.
I am on the latest firmware and so are many others and I've had no issues using adb, fastboot, or file transfer and haven't seen any other reports of such.
Not sure what has or has not been done to the boot.img in that rom, but it could be that it does not have adb enabled or you do not have usb debugging enabled in Dev settings?
Not really sure what else to suggest at this point.
Sounds to me like a bad cable though, especially if you are getting the low charge notification from it, it likely won't transfer data.

I unchecked and check usb debugging several times. The cable I'm using are different. I have one for my desk at work and for home.
Is there another way to enable adb. Everything was working fine before the updated of the firmware. I even tried to restore a backup to an earlier date. no avail

Problem with USB Driver

I just got my phone fixed by a repair shop and they had to replace the motherboard. So when I got it back it has 5.0 on it instead of my KitKat ROM I like. I'm trying to get into Odin so I can reflash a stock kitkat rom but no matter what driver I put on my computer when ever I plug my phone in Windows says Unrecognized Device and Odin doesn't pick it up either. Please help!! I am dying without being able to revert back to KitKat and my favorite rom.
The driver I am trying to install is SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.45.0

Try downloading and installing the newest version of Kies. It will install all the drivers you need. I'll look into that issue in case that doesn't work. Hopefully they didn't install a board with a bad port. It can be bad and still charge.

You're correct about MTP for mounting as internal storage, but MTP and PTP isn't used while in download mode and connected to Odin. It uses ADB at that point and it does that automatically. You just have to make sure USB Debugging is turned on.

Just gonna check some things with you. Have you made sure to activate Developer options and turn on USB Debugging? I know it doesn't connect while attached to a computer right now but does it charge? You said you've tried different computers, but have you tried different USB cables as well?
If the phone is charging but not connecting there is a small trick to see if it's a hardware issue. Get a very this piece of plastic or something else kind of stiff and barely wedge it under the charging port. You put it under the lower side that faces the back cover. You only want something that's going to put a tiny bit of pressure there. Most of the time if a charging port goes out, it's because the contacts are loose. If you do this and it connects as it should, then they put a bad board in the phone. This trick should be the last resort though.
