Kernel Recommendations - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I wanted to know which 4.2.1 kernel you recommend. I'm currently using Franco nightlies but since going to 4.2 it hasnt been giving me the same battery life that it used to.
I'm looking for one that gives me great battery life with little or no sacrifice to performance. That said, I'm okay with the stock 1.2 GHz.

Just stick with the one that came bundled with your ROM. That's what it was built to play nice with.

Try starkissed kangerade, very fast and lots of custom settings to save power, see gnex android development forum to find thread

Battery
The battery is very poor with all kernel. I have 3G all the day and i can't arrive at the end of the day.. the screen time is about 2.5-3 hour. My next smartphone will have more then 3000mAh..
I try all the kernel and maybe franco is the best.. A good compromise..
Sorry for my bad english, bye

[Q] Best Battery kernel Rom? CDMA Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
Just coming from my galaxy s epic 4g touch which was pretty good on battery.. I know roms and kernels could fix that issue with the galaxy nexus cdma which isn't so good..
Which of you tested out a few kernels/Roms and found great battery life when putting the galaxy through it's paces?
I actually love love the phone but the darn battery kinna sucks
Welcome . I also left Sprint and the E4GT. I love this Nexus. The 720p display is so awesome. And official ICS is a major upgrade for the Android OS.
But sadly the battery life is nowhere near what I was running with Calk's ROM + ICS theme. I could go 40 hours easily on light use. And get 12 - 14 hours on heavy days with tons of use, 5 hours display time.
I put the Nexus in the middle for battery life. My old but awesome EVO 4G sucked battery life like a vampire. With heavy use maybe 5-6 hours and light use was maybe almost a full day.
The Nexus seems to be in the middle, for sure way better than the EVO 4G, but not as good as the Galaxy SII, for battery life.
I think with ICS being so fresh, and the Nexus GPU new too, it will take a few Google updates and revised ROM's to really extend battery life close to the SII.

Get the extended battery, can maybe add 2 hours extra life. Turn off LTE if you don't need it, 4G sucks battery pretty good.
As far as ROM's + kernels, there are some really good ones out there.
- Android Revolution HD
- AOKP + Franco kernel
- Operation Code Name
Many others.

Ive tried aokp w/ stock, francos, imo
to be honest, i have not tested the IMOs fully, as an update was just released and i decided to flash with jakebites mod.
I am not a battery stats crazy guy, but i can say that both francos and imo are great so far, improvement in speed and battery life over stock.
I've heard people are getting great battery life with trinity's new kernel and if you are looking for stability, i hear its on heyitslou's defiant
I've found this list to be the most complete.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11617-gu...oms-kernels-tweaks-themes-radios-lte-edition/
I would like to hear your feedback on your experiences also, as there are just simply not enough hours in the day to try everything, just want to try the best. hope that helps...

is there a Rom/Kernal that is generally accepted to be the go to for awesome battery?

i did some searches in the forum, read up on saving battery tips, i hope i didnt just wake a sleeping beast. its not my first forum i have been on.
i was just wondering if in the community there is a generally accepted Rom/Kernal (i know they arent interchangeable) that is a must have for keeping ICS stock and increasing battery time to amazing levels. thanks for your input peeps!
Am running the Gummy Rom 0.7.0 with Imoseyon 1.8.0 kernel..i tried them all this seems to have the best battery for me,,Ive haven't messed with any overclocking or anything,,its awesome for me..
It is all different device to device for kernels at least.
Most people swear on Franco.kernel but I don't have much luck with it. I use GLaDOS.
A lot of people will say AOKP is the best rom for battery but I believe that is just because a lot of people use AOKP in general.
The stock kernel gets amazing battery.
i like the name of GLaDOS =D....ill do some research into it, thanks!
ill look into gummy rom as well...
do you guys think you are getting better bat life with the ROM you are using vs the stock one?
AOKP + Franco Kernel (or GLADOS)
and its also kernel not kernal (just for correction!)
the roms have a part in battery life..even as themes...sometimes darker themes use less brightness, less pixel use theoretically should use less battery..also my brightness is down to 25 to 30 range. brightness on these large screens kill battery....even the nexus stock is basically the same as far as battery...I think it really depends how much usage your doing....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I think it all depend on your usage, not on the rom
i definately agree with you guys on usage dictates battery life, i can make my phone last all day or kill it in 3hrs. i just wasnt sure if there is a gods kernel (thank you zephiK) that makes it last an awesome amount of time or what people see a huge improvement from heavy use.
i recommend android open kang project AOKP and franco's kernel
i noticed that with stock settings and no UV (yet) my phone has much better battery
currently 11hr 52 mins at 62%, however alot of that is standby time, with some texting and voice calls
franco kernel has a great battery life IMO
Apex by bigxie + nova launcher. OC 1350, UV recommended settings in second post in op http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399238

I have had improved battery life using this combination as well, and I use it pretty regularly throughout the day.

ROM+Kernel Recommendations For New Galaxy User

I just finished rooting my Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) and I'm looking for a decent ROM+Kernel combo to flash...
I'm coming from an OG Evo 4G and while there were ALOT of nice ROMS I'd say that about 9 out of 10 were "working fully"...by working fully I mean with no real issues...I understand that one or two things might not work that great but there were alot of ROMs that seemed like they were just pushed out to be the first with the latest "flavor of the month"...
I understand it takes tons of work to make custom ROMs and I appreciate all the hard work, but some folks just seemed like they threw anything together and flashed it...and also offered no support on the issues that popped up...
I can't decide whether to just leave this new phone rooted/stock or flash something...I just don't wanna go through constant FC's and non-working features on a brand new device...
I know most people say "flash it and find out for yourself" but I'm just asking a simple question here...just wanna know if most of these ROMs are solid...
so if there are any recommendations please post em up...
I'm sure there are some ridiculous ROMs for this phone because the phone itself is CRAZY!!
One other question- since I use Sprint do I have to look for ROMs for Sprint devices only or are all the Galaxy Nexus ROMs okay to flash?
Thanks.
So... you should just stay stock rooted.
Looks like the sprint dev section has most of the major players ported.
They are all stable for the most part.
I'm running Franco kernel nightly 152, that's there.
But Doesn't look like the ROM I'm on is ported yet.

Aokp with trinity kernel and u are great....
I use the trinity tuv1036-345 alpha 1
For better battery life

aokp franco
I have ButterNutz which is fairly close to stock 4.0.4 if you aren't interested in customizing every little detail of the ROM. I haven't posted it here at XDA though.
AOKP Milestone 4 and Franco Milestone 3 on mine, have not had a single problem. Right now on 14 hours of moderate use - music, calls, texts, Web surfing but no gaming - w/ 39% battery life remaining.

Milestone 5 is out.
If you're just looking for a general outline, the big four are Gummy, AOKP M5, Miui, and CM9 alpha.
Of those I'd say AOKP gives you the most customization while miui gives you the least. Most other builds I've seen for the gnex are usually inferior (IMHO) builds of those 4.
I don't notice a huge difference between custom kernels but one major benefit is being able to set the clock speed. I know Franco does that when paired with the $3 app. So you can't go wrong there.
Good luck.

AOKP M5 with the kernel is comes with (faux). Great customization enhancing the stock experience and great battery life.

I'll suggest same as many others - AOKP M5 + nightly franco.kernel 152. Really buttery smooth and bug free experience.
Liquidsmooth + Francokernel is pretty good. very smooth, lots of useful tweaks, great battery life too.
Liquidsmooth 1.35 + Francokernel M3 = 26h battery (4h screen on time) last day.
AOKP M5 + Franco

Stock 4.0.4 IMM76D w/ 007 1.2ghz Kernel.
Best battery life with smooth performance and stock AOSP experience...the GOOGLE way.
BlackIce Kangorade by travp624 (on RootzWiki or Goo) or CM9 Kang by winner00. A very solid rom!! All the roms are great! For or a kernel that's fast and stays at an extremely low temp I always wind up sticking with Trinity! Great kernels, big selection! 1344/345 or the TUV.. I've flashed around and with these Trinity I always get 4+ on the screen ..
(w/heavy usage!!) You will notice a difference right away and just gets better. Also grab the app (Trinity Toolbox) Has some that aren't available to pubic and it's good to support the devs!! If you have never flashed Kangorade you are missing out! Amazing rom!!!!
Yes, most of the ROMs are quite stable, the exceptions to the rule seem to be clearly labeled as unstable. Yes, you will need to flash Sprint (toroplus) ROMs but you can flash any of the Galaxy Nexus kernels. Most of the mods and themes should probably work too but you'll probably have greater luck trying a CDMA version rather than GSM.

Just got mine a week ago. Looking for the right rom and kernel

I came from an HTC evo 3d. I can't be happier and I wish I had went with a nexus from the beginning. It took weeks of testing to find that right combination of rom and kernel. Rooting is easy. But I'm looking for full functionality, modest speed and battery. Although I have the 2100 extended battery I still average 12-14 hours with medium use.
Any suggestions for a combination of speed, function and battery?
I saw a kernel for a 2ghz over clock. Is that even realistic? My eco 3d crashed at anything over 1.8
Galaxy Nexus, enough said
Stock. Ogdobbers kernel.
...
kinda partial to rascream with trinity myself
Aokp with francos nightly or stable kernel = money

EVERY device is different. YOU have to try the roms and kernels to see which one works the best for YOU.

[Q] What is your phone's set up?

Whats your rom + kernel setup? how much battery life are you getting out of that?
Another "best combo" thread in disguise.

PA - franco kernel. **** battery life cuz there's no cell service in my apartment/classrooms so my phone dies super fast. but still very reliable, I don't mind charging it whenever I'm on my comp/at home. I always use it to control my spotify at parties and whatnot with 0 issues

PA + Franco is what I use also , was getting random reboots with AK kernels but Franco works great with PA.

I love the customizability settings in AK though. Are you having trouble getting smartreflex to stick with Franco?
Cm 10.1 and ar kernel. I'm new so I don't know any better yet.
Avatar Rom + Ak kernal...running perfectly with no lags and battery life of about 15-16 hrs..:good:
