So long story short i had an S3 since October, it was awesome I loved flashing roms & stuff until a week or 2 ago I flashed a theme that somehow resulted me in losing my IMEI so I restored it after reading some stuff n attempted to restore 4g using another guide but that failed after many tries n I gave up so I sold that S3 & got an iPhone 4s. I love the iPhone 4s even though it's a downgrade from the S3 but stuff like GPS bein accurate on foursquare, yelp, FB checkin etc & apps being so much more fluid is great however since Tmobile isn't really that iPhone compatible as they are refarming their network I would constantly be going from Edge to 3g from Edge to 3G & that's draining my battery & it gets annoying since Edge is super slow. So now I"m debating whether I wanna get another S3 off craigslist or just stick with my 4S. Sorta hard for me to decide since both phones have their pros & cons for me lol & I'm sorta scared if I get another S3 I might lose my IMEI once again so I might not even root it.

Its not at all fat, its as thin as the SIII but larger, also bigger batt capacity. I may sell my SIII and grab one.

Jot down you IMEI number so if it happens again you have it. The IPhone is old...it may be a fluid experience..but you are stuck with what Apple gives you...no mods...no ROM flashing...plain IOS....

Well, you could get the S3 or N4 or something and stay T-Mobile, or maybe switch to ATT or something else and stay 4s or go 5 for an iPhone. Up to you.

I would almost bet YOUR paycheck it is CWR. When I first came over to this phone, CWR was losing IMEI's daily. TWRP ftw!!!
**********************
I have succesfully converted all my family to Android from IOS, except my B/S.I.L. Those two just won't budge off Steve's Junk (pun intended) for some reason. I have even showed them how my tablet is "superior" to their IPad and IPad2 and they still won't even look into at the very least Jailbreaking. To each their own I guess. But my phone absolutely blows theirs away (1 I4 and 1 I5) with functionality, asthetics, ability and general Badass-ery. I have even bought my two sons Android tablets and taught them how to Root and why to do it.
Don't forget that Rooting =/= flashing a custom ROM/Kernel. Some people Root for the mere fact of backing up or disabling bloat and stay on stock for the duration.
That long story short was long

I have iphone5 and switched to GS3... I understand what you meant about "fluid" and it is what I really missed - and IP5 is even more fluid in that sense but it is the same old same old.
However, I have customized GS3 to a point that it is close enough. For a $400 GS3 on Craigslist vs a $650 IP5.... I will save $250 for not so fluid.
Now, I also just receive my Nexus 4.... that is real fluid..... but it really sux not having the SD card. So, I am likely sell the N4 and keep GS3....
I will see what is IP5s or GS4 next.... and Note 2 is really big.... definitely not for ONE HAND MAN.
By the way, there is an app that can save the NV/IMEI .... I back up my complete NV so I can restore it back if needed. No worry on losing the IMEI.

Technically I'mma lose some money either way since a SG3 on CL is like 400-450 and my resale value for this iPhone 4s 64gb ranges 375-430 depending. But I'm just gonna stick with the iPhone 4s, too lazy to buy & then sell another phone.
Only use TWRP recovery as it doesnt result in imei losses.. I losr my imei. Twice while using cwm recovery, so I switched and everything is perfect now.

Many times good software can make up for hardware. I don't own a Gnex myself but I've read good things about how smooth it runs. They'll always get the best vanilla android software as well. Camera quality (8mp vs 5mp) and no sd card slot are probably the biggest concerns with it.
You can always check out their forum and see how people like it.
I will never do this. I need extra memory and in 3 years i havent carried camera with me lol

i honestly think its a stupid trade, dont get me wrong the nexus is a beast n has some amazing developments but if ur doing this only for JB u might as well be patient n wait till we get ours
The lack of SD card slot and overall mediocre hardware quality put me off. I was definitely considering the Nexus as I prefer a pure Android experience, but the reviews just aren't great.

I was thinking about selling my Galaxy S II GT-I9100, so I could get the Gal Nex and get a taste of Jelly Bean.
You might want to check out this Galaxy S II resale value guide [goo.gl/lwq4T] it has some useful insight regarding the differences in the second hand prices of the GS2.
Lucky for you the T-Mobile version has the highest (locked version) resale value @ $357~ on Ebay.

I sold my T989!
So today I sold my T989 on Craigslist for $345. I had $60 extra and I just ordered it from the play store.
I think I got lucky I sold it for 345, because some used in mint condition T989s on eBay are now going for about $300.
I'll let you know what I think about it. I can always come back to T989 if I don't like it. I'm sure the resale value of the GNex will go up if the ban is put in full effect!
You can go to other threads, gsmarena, etc., and see the phone spec differences.
Just a couple things that might be a little subtle from just looking at the specs .....
The S2 has faster HPSA, 42 MBS theoretical VS 21 on the Gnexus. Most PHONES can't take advantage of that speed by themselves (or users don't). It makes a difference for me, as I hotspot and run a computer off of my tmobile connection. You do need to be in a tmo 42 mbs area for this to be useful, however, so, if you're not, this feature might not be "worth it" for you.
PENTABAND? What provider do you use, are you looking to do contracts? Straight Talk (att and tmobile) and tmobile itself, offer great pay per month contracts (plenty of posts on the ST $45 unlimited everything plans). The S2 is faster ON TMOBILE, but, while it can run on ATT for voice, data is very slow. The nexus is fast on both ATT and Tmobile.
Pentaband is a good feature if you are looking to switch between att and tmo (maybe one gets better reception when you're at school, the other when you're at home ?).
A THOUGHT HERE is the ATT S2 SKYROCKET, apparently, it runs ATT fast natively, AND, can be flashed to the Tmo version (Tmo S2 doesn't have the same radio, so doesn't work the other way)
As others have mentioned, more developer support for the GN, less for the S2, but, ... the S2 has lots of good roms too.
SD CARD - is "WORTH" it to me. I am in hotels a lot, have a large collection of blu ray DVDs I've converted using DVD Catalyst, and have many on micro SD cards ... and I can use my phone as a movie player if the hotel (or if I go to a friends house) TV has HDMI.
The built in memory on the GN is not so small that its a big hinderance, I can still fit a movie or two and hundreds of hours of songs, so, long as you plan you're fine ... removeable SD allows you to bring your entire song collection and dozens of movies.
That's useful for me, might not be "worth it" for you.
Both are great phones, FOR ME, the Nexus is much more versitile if you're looking to maximize pay as you go plans and carrier useage, the S2 if you are looking for pure data speed and SD is a little stronger.
Good luck with your choice, and let us know how it turns out!
Well I received a call from a VZW supervisor asking how has my experience been with the Nexus. I stated that it has locked up a few times but the main thing that upsets me has been the update times. They apologize and say they can send me an S3 if I would like that. I gladly said yes. This is what she said " we are calling customers with the nexus that have been with VZW for more than 10 years because we have received many complaints. We value our customers and want to take care of you." What do you guys think about this

I downgraded from an S3 to a GNexus and let me tell you, that phone is terrible. Its too big and yet it feels like cardboard ready to break at any second. The build quality was **** and the volume buttons felt like they would pop out any second. On top of that the Touchwiz that comes with is on par with low-budget LG phones. I mean the thing wouldn't stop trying to upload my photos to G+ even after i told it 50 times to stop. You can't get rid of the "Wi-Fi available" bull**** and the whole top of notification bar is ful of other retarded **** that I never used, you literally have like 1/2 of the notifications filled with useless crap. The keyboard is also modified to **** it comes with swype which has autocorrect but if you get tired of swype and go back to normal keyboard it suddenly loses its auto-correct. Overall I hated the phone and i'm glad I got the GNexus.
I feel like they may be doing this to try and get rid of nexus updates altogether by offering s3 they can just say Samsung is your problem with the nexus one it hits aosp it really shouldn't take much time to get to the end user I think Verizon is tired of supporting this phone.

I think your biggest problem is Sprint, not the phones you have
I would have told the CSR that I'll take a phone I can unlock and do whatever I want with over one that they locked down. Tell them to call back when they're offering the developer edition, which will likely never actually see the light of day.
Have you guys tried Jellybean? Do it and then tell me you hate the Nexus...you won't. It's buttery smooth with Franco's kernel and battery life is great. I had an Epic Touch and it was a great phone, but you can't give those things away...they made millions of them and that $99 bogo special doesn't help resale. I put $100 with mine and traded for a 4s and sold it for $400. People are having problems getting $200 for the Epic. Traded another 4s for an Evo lte then for my Nexus. Lte is a good phone but feels like its gonna break in half, plus I had a 1.15 hboot. Nexus' camera isn't the greatest, but it's a phone camera remember...I would however trade my Nexus for an S3

well if i get the option to change my nex for an S3 id go for it, and flash cm10 (i know you guys are gonna say cm10 is not the same on the nex than on any other phone) but id jus enjoy the slighly better hardware for a bit until the next nexus(es) come out in november, then id be back in the nexus line again
If this is true its not a good sign. If they decide not to carry the next nexus I will likely be moving on. Honestly I would have told them no. To me the s3 is not really much of an upgrade. The only advantage is the processor and camera.

absolutely agree....This phone stock is badass and everything just works on top of that is buttery smooth. this is the first stock rom that I stayed on and said wow I could get used to this. I stayed on it for quite a while but then had to venture off to cm10 also our development is getting better by the day. Our cm10 based roms are pretty much daily drivers which is awesome cuz a lot of phones either have audio issues or data issues...again everything pretty much just works. The camera on this phone is so amazing especially in low light that definitely wowed me. To sum it all up it is the best phone on the market imo and the best t-mobile has ever had.... Just get it!!! The rest of the thread kinda caps the overall view of the phone and I'd be lieing to say anything other than perfection. Like mentioned a few times already its power and clarity is just amazing and it even makes you wonder if its even worth rooting from first impressions as this community has such an obvious influence over the systems functionality.
Multitasking is a breeze, it handles everything you throw at it and still offers more when you ask for it. Im glad I bought it as much as everyone else here does.

oh lol it was a customer and we had galaxy nexus on sale for new customers to buy gnex for 299.99 outright. but she was existing customer and i said ill sell mine for 320. and she said ok than i said no i dont want to sell it she left and came back like 10 times and i finally sold it cause i decided to get the s3 and i got it 3 days ago
So I recently had a friend tell me his s3 hasnt been doing very well for him speed and service wise(he has sprint) and I did some digging around on google and some forums to try to help him out.. and the more I researched the more I saw posts about all the issues with the s3... problems with it charging to horrible battery and reception to other things I can't remember now.. and Im here thinking to my self.. man I LOVE THIS DEVICE. On full stock rooted I really have no issues.. my battery lasts reception is ok for me in Miami.. not the best but certainly not bad. I really dont have any problems that would make me want to return the phone. Im curious to know how other users feel about this beast and what some of your experiences are... tips and general experiences are welcome..
Lets hear it

We all love it. Otherwise we wouldn't still own/customize it...
Amazing device I'm runnning stock no problem but rooted with a custom kernel ! It's DOPE! Your friend obviously hasn't had a single-core phone or a blackberry! (jokes) loool!
Is that a serious question

I think i agree with your friend. The Sprint's S3 does suck. My uncle has a Sprint S3 and it is a bit laggy compared to mine...so maybe its not the phone itself, but the network carrier. So radio/baseband has to be culprit for everything thats weighing the phone down.
I also had the s2 international version that worked flawless (and I flashed the hell out of that thing) but my sprint buddies all had complaints..
I forgot to mention in OP that some of the bad reviews I read also included our tmobile model.. but I am incredibly happy with mine.

I had virgin mobile(Sprint owned prepaid) and service was good in terms of making a call, but data speeds were inconsistent at best. I also had numerous problems with text not going through. I would expect sprint to have at least some of these problems

This is by far the best phone I have ever owned....
I recently had a DROID bionic, DROID razr, and droid razr maxx and this is leaps and bounds better.

I too love my T-MO GS3, by far the best Android phone I have ever owned. I live in Miami and I get regular speeds of 15mps to 18mps. I have rooted, flashed, themed(international forums) and this phone has given me no problems what so ever.
And remember, most people who have no problens with the phone aren't going to post about it online. Its much easier to find out what went wrong for people because they always come online loking for help!
That silent majority is, I imagine, quite massive considering the millions of these phones that have been sold! That's a lot of happy people going about their lives without ever needing to seach for help!

I really have no issue with the S3 on t-mobile. This is the first Android phone I have with great battery, fast, lot of available memory for the apps to fly,... Great reception and I think I pick up 4G at some places that would be on Edge or 3G when using the S2 or Sensation.
I like it but I don't love it! I'm considering the galaxy note 2 or the next iPhone.

I like both, my god its just phones... an enemy in my definition is someone who has crossed me.. you do know there would be no android without apple right? The guy who created android worked at apple & stole key features. That' why jobs said he will fight android until he dies. Let me put it like this: what if your close friend kidnaps your sister & you know about it & see her with tape on her mouth & arms lol if not a sister then your mother.

Me neither! I used to live on my laptop when I had my (crappy) Wildfire S, but now with the S3, it does everything I need. Much easier to carry around.

So you change ROMS during the week/weekend? I never thought of doing that - I guess Titanium helps? Sorry. I'm still a slight N00b. I just rooted but am keeping it stock for now. I just Dl'd Titanium but am confused on how to use it. Guess that's for another thread lol.
Is there a way to make sure titanium doesn't restore bad backup data? (I don't use it for this reason. Wanna make sure my ROM stays clean)
The battery lasts all day for the most part. Its so snappy. Love it too!

Hello all!
It'd be nice to get some guidance on my upgrade (Yes, i know some just think.. "aww ****, to hell with all these ppls upgrade posts" so if that person is you, don't bother givin me **** for moving on. everyone does. thanks.)
First of all,
It sucks balls to leave this awesome community.
I've learned a sh*t-ton about my Epic and many other things from some very respected people, who all friggen rock. lol.
Soo, onto my topic & small dilemma.
The upgrade date is Dec. 1st, 2012. Although, I love the style & feel of my Epic, I may be heading towards something a bit different. I have gone down to the Sprint store and checked out some really cool devices but I'm kind of sitting here scratching my head because I'm very picky, luckily though, I was (offf coursee) drawn to the Galaxy S III.
Given its lightening fast 1.5GHz dual-core processors,2100 mAh Lithium Ion battery (9hrs talk time), beautiful (yet kinda big) display (4.8" to be exact), the JB OS, 16/32GB memory, 2GB RAM and other things here and there. Now, the Note II, damn dude, talk about a big display. That one takes the cake. Idk if I could really be happy/satisfied with such a monster display ... 5.5" ?? & I know thats not THAT much bigger than the S III but in hand you'll see the difference.
On the other hand, theS Pen™, 3100 mAh Lithium Ion battery (15hrs talk time), 1.6 GHz Samsung Exynos Quad-core processors alone sounds damn good to me. The only thing that bothers me (obviously) is the bigger display.. So I'm considering other devices because these 2 devices give me a headache sometimes lol.
Anyway, my options & opinions are open for anything.. I'm not tooo picky and my mind is NOT set on just those 2 phones.. I was just throwing them out there because I like 'em both.
One thing..
Don't even think about mentioning the iPhone's, that is one phone I'd just piss on nd save the p.o.s as a weapon against the zombies, then let those retards have at it (hopefully piss on it too.)
So, apart from that, I'd like to hear some input from you guys n gals.
&maybe even whoever has upgraded from the Epic and is happy with their pick.. Your wisdom, knowledge & opinions are appreciated! either way its all good so let me know! Thank you in advance.

Why not still stick with keyboards? America variants of S3 ALL SUCKS to me. Now on market you can have LG Mach, Moto Photon Q and (later) Verizon Stratosphere 2... And if I were you I would definitely first consider a Nexus 4 (all powerful and better than S3, though have to wait for a bit)

Trust me bro my eyes have been open for some decent devices with physical keyboards that have at least like dual processors, so far I haven't seen much.
Prolly because I have Sprint nd Sprint doesn't have the biggest selection of pretty good phones (like the Nexus). I wish. I don't see many disadvantages with getting the SGSIII, imo. But everybody feels different.

Your best bet is still the 2 threads in General that I recommended to you. But the S3 is awesome but you will miss the keyboard for a few months. Samsung seems to have listened and fixed everything we complained about of both Epics S and S2.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Yes I've been reading through those threads the last couple days or so. Its hard to say, because if Id like to keep the physical keyboard then, to my knowledge, I have one choice: Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. Unless I were to go with the S III. Are you happy with the S III?

I am very happy with the S3. It is light years ahead of the Epic. I will not lie and say I don't miss my keyboard but the voice to text is really very good and getting used to the on screen keyboard in landscape.

Yeah, exactly, on one side of the coin it's new improved technologies and all. Then on the other, there's no keyboard but I figure i'll get used to that.
Kenny, I believe your just the man for guidance here lol. You have great knowledge on this and you switched from the Epic to the SIII. Like I said in my op, I'm looking for input from someone who has done that.
So I suppose i'm asking you if you think the SIII might be the one for me.. ?
Since your happy with the switch and you've been a big help from the start with me.
Thank you.

Plus, I came across this thread: Sprint offers SIII for $49 on Black Friday...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34349652
Although, this is before my upgrade, could I just simply go in and buy the phone and activate it on my upgrade day (Dec. 1st) ??
lol don't really kno how that works.
Thanks.

No. They can't give you that price without an eligible upgrade line. You will get used to the keyboard or lack there of. The phone is truly amazing with 4 times the RAM and 16 times the phone storage plus an available sd card slot. When I got it all I did was root and run stock for a month because if was so damn fast and smooth. You won't be disappointed. Call Sprint to see if you can move your upgrade up a week.

I called and got it figured out. I think tmrw my upgrade will be eligible if I pay the $50. If I send my Epic to them, they said I'll get $28 for it and the $50 will be billed to my sprint account next pay. So, basically, if I go for it, I'll be paying $72 for the early upgrade and a new SIII not bad eh? It sounds like a deal. I can't imagine 4x the RAM lol that is a huge improvement, not to mention the other awesome specs and features that come with it.
It very well may be the SGSIII for me... Hey and if it is maybe Ill be bugging you even more for help
Im sure I'll decide to root it and flash a nice stock rom.

Outstanding! I knew you'd figure it out, your the mastermind of operations! haha
I LUCKILY received my SIII today, at first they told me they were sold out and I got there an hour after they opened! No one had even gone there and gotten one yet... AND THEY WERE SOLD OUT?! wtf?..
So, since they love me oh so dearly there, they had a couple stashed away and grabbed one for me. Like I said, luckily. lol
I had a question though, maybe you have the answer lol, do you know if the SIII is root-able withoutt Odin via starting the Odin flash counter ? Or should I not worry about it and just buy a usb jig when the time comes?
Thanks Kenny
