So here is my issue. About 3 months ago i cracked my screen on the epic. I imediatly thought i would have to pay 100 dollars and use the insurance i pay for. So i decided i would live with it. About a month ago on XDA i saw that someone got there screen replaced and it could cost me either 35 dollars or nothing. I called sprint that day and found out they were right. Yesterday i went to the sprint store and asked them to repair it only to find out it will cost me $100 dollars because they changed there policy.
Is there anyway i can get sprint to honor what they said over the phone?-The guy at the normal sprint repair said i would have to go to a corporate repair store and MAYBE they would... I called sprint(not the coprorate store) and they said that it would be insurance fraud for them to do anything.
While i was at the first sprint repair store the guy said if i could find my own lcd that he could swap em out for me free of charge. So as plan b i would like to know where the cheapest lcd i can find is? Also where people would sell a bricked epic for parts...
thanks in advance
Its prob too late, but Sprint wanted to charge me $120 to replace the trackball on my BlackBerry.
I went in to another location and I talked to a guy, prob about 20. I could have done it myself for $20, but I had just started getting around after back surgery and a knee scope and didn't feel like F'n with it. He said that's what it will cost if you don't have insurance. I didn't. He said, "you must have insurance ?"."let me check..... oh that's funny they didn't take out your $7 for insurance this month", "do you have the $7 dollars today, because we can have your phone fixed & back to you in 20min, for only $15". Pretty damn cool.
You might be able to get insurance if you haven't paid your next months payment. Then tell them you had called a month earlier and asked for ins to be put on your acct and to get quotes for or change your acct. If you're anything like my wife(unless you're a guy and don't have a vagina), call and ***** them out for not fixing your acct for you and how you had to pay $100. Then keep asking for a supervisor or get someone who will fix it for you to shut you up and keep you as a customer. Don't forget to ***** about the extra $10 for 4g that you can't get or is just ****ty when you do. It might work.
Damn that was a novel. No more replies anymore after I've taken my pain pills. Let me shut up and melt back into the couch w/my hand in my pants, Al Bundy style" ahhhh....

insurance
the worst part is i already do i have insurance. I have had it since i got the phone and htey still want me to pay 100 dollars
Tell them you lost it, pay the $100 for a whole different phone then sell the broken one for parts and recoup some of your money.
thought about that
I thought i abought that but then i realized how much can i make from a bad esn epic with a cracked screen?
Well, bad esn epic's are selling for ~$300 so I wouldn't consider ~$100 ridiculous considering a new screen can be purchased for $90

holy f*** where?
Also the 100 by itself isn't ridiculous. What is ridiculous is sprint clearly told me that it would be no more then 35 dollars and now they say 100... i don't like false advertisers.
Take a look at eBay and search bad esn epic, its still good for metro pcs and rapes anything they have while being cheaper by around $50, also I meant you could sell it for $100 without being even a tad bit ridiculous
thanks for the advice.

What good is an epic with a bad esn? Can you clean it to make it so you can active it?

I had a cracked screen and paid $100 for a refurb a couple days ago. What happened is they stopped replacing the screens prolly way to much money.
Epic 4g
If you can find a store that has a smart technician that harvests parts from other epics, u may be in luck. i myself being a tech, harvest as many epic screens as possible and when cases like yours come in, i can be ready to either say "with insurance its free" or "without insurance its $35" (which by the way is the new Sprint ASC policy...). OORRR you can be like every other customer and just pay the crazy $100 insurance fee (as long as you have TEP )
If you have insurance, use it. File a lost/stolen phone claim, get a new replacement phone, sell bad esn phone to a happy boost mobile customer for $200. Happy you, sprint, and boost mobile customer.
I just bought a new screen for $104 shipped to replace the screen on my wife's epic since hers had a bad back button right out of the box and we are ob boost so no taking the phone back.
And yes bad esn epics are worth a lot because it only takes about 20 minutes to flash one to boost which is still sprint and half the price.

I have tep and an annoying sc4ratch on my screen but its definitely not worth $100 or even $35 to fix sine its only noticeale if I look for it, so would I be able to take it to a sprint store and they'll fix it for free?
Like I said, its not really in need of fixing....but if I can get a whole new screen for free its definitely worth it...lol

Wait, they changed the TEP Policy AGAIN after the October change?
When my screen was broken, they fixed it at the Sprint Repair/Service store. I wasn't charged anything, and instead of replacing my screen, they gave me a brand new refurbished epic with a new 90 day warranty.
to get this strait
Someone would actually be willing to buy a cracked phone with a bad esn off ebay? What should i list it as?

I'd buy it for $100 factoring in that a new LCD is about $100 plus the time I'd take to replace it. I got my perfect condition lightly used Epic with a bad ESN for $240 shipped to my door from the evilbay. My wife's was $300 shipped brand new with a bad esn but the stupid thing had the back button issue that plagues so many Epics. I replaced the LCD and that fixed the problem but still...
Oh well $50/mo on boost makes it worthwhile especially when it starts dropping $5 every 6 months with the shrinkage program.
hmmmm
So should i flash it to boost mobile myself or just put it on ebay?
Depends what you want to do. If you are handy and good with electronics you can replace the screen and then buy a cheap used sanyo incognito on boost so you can flash it.
You can also flash to Cricket or maybe Metro.

I have two questions.
I have been eyeing either this phone or the GN for a while now, and I am about ready to just shut up and grab the SGS2 already.
Looking online, the only thing that should be coming out anytime too soon is the Blaze which I am still assuming is not an upgraded SGS2 (I don't know if people are just paranoid, or ready for another Vibrant 4g situation). So it seems like I won't be kicking myself in a few months about the SGS2 (minus, MAYBE, a GN release).
So long story short.
Question 1: Have I missed evidence on why I should wait 1 or 2 months to grab a new phone?
Question 2: What would be the smartest way to get one?
Short story long again:
Ebay has new in box phones starting at 499 with shipping, but one has no returns and the other has 3 days. Will ebay/paypal protection save me if I find out there are problems with the phone outside those few days?
I hate asking this, but what problems would I want to look for? Unless they develop over time I don't want to know about the screen issues I have heard mentioned vaguely, but others seem to imply it's not a big deal so if I never notice it then it's not hurting me.
I am wanting to use Ebay because it is 100 bucks cheaper than Amazon but Tmobile would only be like 598 or something. Should I stop being so paranoid and just grab it from ebay?
Sorry, I stayed up way too late with my finger over the mouse button and I am now just about ready to start pacing but I am not getting google search results to do anything to calm or warn me yet. Is it worth the 100 bucks to buy it from Ebay instead of straight from Tmobile?
Sorry, I will stop spazzing.
Those people who have unopened boxes of galaxy s 2 are people who are eligible for an upgrade but like their current phone so they decide to make money of their contract. I recently did this.my mom didn't want a new phone so I used her upgrade to buy a new gs2 and sold out on Ebay for $500. These people are legit and Ebay will make sure you don't get scammed.you should just buy it
Question 1: Tmobile is not releasing a new amazing phone for awhile. (unless somehow the galaxy s2 HD comes over). But that is not likely at all.so there is no need to wait.unless you want to wait another year for the galaxy s3. Ice cream sandwich is just around the corner. Right now is the best time to get it.

Thanks for the response, I am just worried I get it and, say, the speaker phone is messed up and I learn about it a day or two after the return window and then I have trouble getting it fixed instead of just returning it or exchanging it.
I have never had to do that though, so 100 bucks is a lot to KNOW I can.

Seriously? You'd advocate risking getting your phone's IMEI number blacklisted to save $30?
The phones are $529 from t-mobile.
Why risk it for $30??? These "new" phones can be reported as lost then the insurance replaces it and they block the IMEI number and the sucker is out $400-$500.
BTW, Getting a "free" phone on a subsidy plan doesn't make the phone free, you're still paying for it over the 2 year term. With T-mobiles Unlimited Talk,Text, Web for $50 + buying the phone outright, over the 2 years a contract would run, you are paying out $1200+$530 for the phone so $1730. For the equivilant plan with a "free" phone you're paying $80 a month over 24 months so $1920.
So $1920 - $1730 = $190 You pay more for the phone than if you bought the phone with cash. And just looking now, you have to pony up $280 to buy the phone when you "upgrade" then a $50 rebate, so you're paying even more.
Heck, with T-mobile you can ge tthe non subsidized plan for $0 a month, pay $200 down, and finance the phone with T-mobile for $20 a month and come out ahead if you are looking for the least amount up front.
BTW, Ebay buyer protection is only good for 30 days after the sale, on day 31 the seller can report the phone "lost" and have it turned off and get their replacement.
i agree with gallaxxeess
no point saving $30 if you have a high risk of having your IMEI black listed
there's a topic about it in General

You're assuming it's claimed as insurance fraud... and with taxes it's a 100 dollar difference. I do agree there is a risk though.
Edit: so thinking about that possibility I realized its sort of dumb for me to not just call up T-Mobile and see what they say about these sort if things (knowing they'd rather I give them NY money). I am legitimately thanking you for helping me solidify my paranoia to a point.

If you wanna be happy, keep your vibrant and wait a few months. I recommend getting the GN if you have the money because it has a better screen, but if you want you could wait until ICS is offically released and then buy it.
If you have been used to the iphone screen, or any good res LCD screen, youll notice issues with the display on our GS2.
I get the phones for free by price matching at best buy.thus makes them have no mail in rebate and no monthly additional fee.

I appreciate the opinion, although I am banking on "ignorance is bliss" when it comes to higher res screens. The expandable storage and currently only over seas options of the GN are why I am just going with the SGS2, but with sprint releasing one it is making me wonder if waiting would be smart. I would be happy with whatever I get, but I am pretty sick of my poor old vibrant.

Didn't mean to thanks you, if anyone wonders why, but what do you mean? As much as I hate big corporation and all, I just can't pull myself to do scams or I would "lose" my current phone. Not saying that's what you're doing, but so far that's what it sounds like.

Similar situation. I just traded some BMW work for a NIB SGS2 off of craigslist. Upgrade phone he didnt want.
Just contacted CS
I asked about what they said and all they could say is "maybe...". They can't/won't verify that I purchased the phone so if the person were to claim it was stolen I would be SOL (I have read about a guy who got the seller in trouble in a similar situation with Sprint, but I don't want to go off something like that).
I guess I just have to re-budget 600 instead of 500.
why not just print the page ur phone is advertised on ? if its ebay the guy would have to setup an account every time he wantes to scam someone

Pay with paypal. If the seller claims insurance fraud Paypal will get you your money back (may take time while they investigate but they will get it). Ebay is safe to buy from with all the fraud protection especially when you pay with paypal. DON"T DO IT ON CRAIGSLIST!!!
Don't wait for the Blaze, trust me, just get the SGSII or GN.
FYI, T-Mobile doesn't make money off handsets. When will people learn this. They make money off the monthly service. They are a SERVICE company, NOT a phone manufacturer. Go ahead and ask any question you want. In fact, T-Mobile prefer you have your own phone so they don't have to subsidize you!

I bought my s2 from craigslist for $550 (white). It came brand new in a box, however headphones were missing. I have bunch of good headphones here and there so i didn't care. But the phone was in original packaging and I got within 3 days. I am happy with my purchase.
The last time i bought my galaxy 4g first series from someone advertising on craigslist, brand new phone but when i brought it home and try to use, the phone mic never worked. I called samsung and they told me to ship it to them and I received my phone back within 5 business days. They fixed it for free and even paid for overnight shipping.
I never had any issue with Samsung or Apple.
You don't wanna know my story with Dell and ATT when I ended up paying almost $2000 for a Dell Streak phone I never received.

I am still pretty sure the blaze will not be an upgrade, probably just a 4" phone...
Any way, doesn't matter, I went to Tmobile and bought myself a new SGS2... having trouble with my new plan though... ugh...

I dropped my galaxy note 2 on sprint and there is a hairline crack across the screen and small impact on side as well as 2 small scuffs on silver housing. I am moving to tmo and iphone(not trying to start any flame wars just giving info). So should I pay the 200 for an insurance claim and get a brand new one and sell it or sell as is?
Anyone interested in galaxy note 2? What would you pay for it...Will attach pics in a few so you can judge.
I guess the question is will I gain any money after that 200 by getting new and selling or should I just sell as is.
Thanks in advance

Be advised, selling on XDA is not allowed without a mod giving the go ahead.
Now, you can sell a refurbished unit for around 450 to 500, that is what you are going to get more than likely, so you can make a decent profit. If you sell the unit as is, you will more likely be able to sell it for 250 to 300 as long as it is still fully functional. So either way, you will make a little bit from it.

Well the screen on its own (well, plus the digitizer) runs for about $300. The average price for this phone is about $400 in good condition... if someone were to buy it as is it would be for parts. I say, pony up the deductible and then sell for it a bit above, like $450 or so

You can get the screen for $150 from tuscani1821. Most people would buy the cracked device, buy a replacement screen and use the device. Or buy the cracked device to repair their bricked device by swapping screens on them. You can sell a cracked sceen(still functional) note 2 for anywhere between $250 and $350 depending on where you sell it and the extent of the damage. Considering his is a minor cosmetic damage I'd ask $350 for it since it's fully functional and only has a hairline crack on the glass. The Note 2 is still selling for $450 - $600 used in good to mint condition. If you spent the $150 to replace the screen and sold it for $450 you'd turn a $300 profit, more if you sold it for $500+. If you pay the $200 deductible and end up with a refurbished device you won't be able to sell it for as much. It's easy to check the refurbished status and since refurbished device's have been repaired for unknown reasons they don't sell for as high as a single owner like new device even if it's had to have the screen replaced since the original owner knows exactly what's happened to the phone and no one really needs to know you replaced the screen. The LCD/digitizer assembly includes the chrome bezel so the device would be in like new condition and pull a premium.

sprint ended up sending me a new one sealed in box with all accessories as well and only wants the device so now i have double the accessories and a brand new phone...so i think with double accessories and seidio surface case and micro sd, i should get 600+ minus the 200 deductible i paid giving me around a 400 profit after ebay/paypal fees. After seeing cracked prices vs new I decided it was better to pay the deductible and take the chance.

That's pretty good. You got lucky with the NIB. When you sell it pack it back up in it's matching box and keep the new accessories unopened, you'll have a better chance of selling it full price this way with out someone trying to brow beat the price down too much. If it was me I would ask between $550 and 600 obo but set a minimum in your head and stay firm on it. I would say around $450 - 500 would be a good minimum to stick with that way you're not waiting forever trying to sell it at your full price but also won't get cheaped out by the first person to offer you $400. I would give it about 2 weeks and see what your best offer is. If you go the ebay route, do it as an auction and set it at $500 with a 2 week timeline and see what you end up at. In 2 weeks time you may even end up having people bid it up over what you originally thought or you may only get your base asking price.

someone used BIN @ 650 with 2 days left in auction. Maybe I priced it lower than I should have.
Last night I get an email and I goto unlock my phone and have a wicked line through the left side of the screen (attaching photo).
Shopping around and the screen replacements are about 150 - 175. The next option was to see if i could get a used phone to ride my contract(June 2014) but they were so expensive (eBay Craigslist ect).
Took a shot in the dark and called AT&T and they are giving me my upgrade early and shipping my new phone next day (wow).
Sucks wish it weren't so expensive to repair and definitely getting insurance this time. I can't understand why the screen just up and did what it did. Was fine an hour prior and then wham.
Any ideas what I can do with my phone now? Worth trying to sell it?
I personally would keep the phone, and what phone are they sending you? I'm just curious

They have better rates than bestbuy and sprint, and a lower deductible..has anyone heard of this company before? I'm like 4 days into having my note 4 and kinda thinking about insurance. bestbuy decided to impliment a protection plan identical to sprints. :/
No. But you have got me interested. Im going to call them this week and get some more info. 11 bucks a month for sprints insurance, its half the cost. One thing about insurion (or what ever their name is), i know for a fact they pay claims. Ive used them once when I dropped my droid razr maxx hd in my coffee. Had a new phone in 2 days. Not sure how reliable this one is. But Im definitely interested in knowing more. One thing that is a red flag is it has Sprints deductible at 200 bucks. Mine is 100 bucks, or at least it used to be.
Let me know what you find out. Ill do the same after I call them.
Thanks for the info. Good to know there is some competition for mobile device insurance.
AS FOR ME.....GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH
Unfortunately with the premium phones the deductible is $200 and $300 if you lose the phone. I will be looking into this tomorrow also.
I would read the reviews on Amazon, I was all for buying through square trade... Now I am rethinking it
I actually use to sell Square Trade and use them for all my electronics (except phones because I haven't broken one yet). If you read the comments you'll see that they're 5 star rated on Amazon and have an A+ rating with the BBB as well as numerous awards for customer service. They're totally worth it though I'm not familiar with their phone policies, I only TV, computer, and tablet warranties.
I do know that if you intend on keeping the phone for the full two years you can just buy the insurance instead of doing monthly installments. In the end it saves you around 50% give or take.
If you want more info call them or go in to a TigerDirect, they sell them there. You can get a device anywhere and buy the Square Trade at Tiger, just make sure to tell them you saw the online price and it was cheaper, it'll knock down the price.
Squaretrade is about the same as any warranty, customer service is ok, once you speak to a supervisor. Most lower reps don't know what they are talking about, when my note 3 screen cracked they replaced it with a new phone from amazon, but I was told that was a one time deal. Otherwise it is "gently used" or open box items. I paid 89 for two years with them, but I am also paying 13 a month with sprint and will probably stick with sprint unless Squaretrade does that again. Only recommend them if you don't want to shell out a monthly payment with sprint

Have we found out anything else regarding squaretrade? I haven't had a chance to call them at all but I'm thinking of just going with best buys insurance, even if the deductible is crazy high. ..
I have SquareTrade on both of my tablets but fortunately I never used the policy... I would insure my phone with them but they don't cover theft or loss like Sprint does.

Come on guys, Google is your friend! Squaretrade is either $5 a month or $99 for two years. They don't cover loss or theft and their deductible is $75. Across the board they're more affordable than everyone else. You can also get it on any device at any time, you just have to prove it's working I guess.

I am interested in switching to square trade but other than theft coverage Sprint's tep has one other benefit. There have been times where I go to a Sprint store for an issue, like my wifi radio not working anymore or something else. They have replaced it for free. Sometimes with a new device.
It looks like with square trade it's cheaper but you get a refurbished or used device.

Sprint TEP will replace with used/refurbished phone also. It even states that in the fine print. It even says they can replace with different device of equal value.
I've used squaretrade for years, they're a good route to take, but as with any contract, be sure to read the terms and understand what you're reading.

Yep I know. That's why I said "some times with a new device".
