Did you try to enter text in various applications which are not default Microsoft? I found out that on the Excalibur/Dash and might be also the same problem on all other full keyboard (landscape) Smartphones, that at those applications the....
WER
SDF

...keys are being recognized as the nummeric ones like:
123
456
789
This seems to be a bug (hopefully not a feature) at the OS.
I do see this with e.g. Smartphonenotes (quite important to me), VNC Viewer (for Remote Desktop Control) and at some Java Apps like GoogleMaps, the same is with applications based on .NET.
This is a reason why I again take my HTC p4350 (Herald) with me on the road tomorrow, because I need to control my desktop remotely and start my VPN connection to the company, in order to run the emoze client and to receive emails
Guys, believe me, for hardcore users, it is very annoying.
Did anybody hear a solution for this?
I've just tried Smartphone Notes on my Dash & it's working just fine. The default is alpha and pressing function twice shifts them the keyboard into to numeric mode.
I also noticced that. TomTom for example does not recognize these keys as letters. I have to use T9 on these 9 letters.

adhussain please in Smartphonenotes please try to save a note which is called e.g. "Laguna" (my note for my car and you will see that you are then not able to search completely using the alpha keys. Also "A" key is then not working.
Fire00, it saves a note called Laguna just fine. 'A' key working fine as well. I dont get what u mean by search completely? I also tried Convert It! and it entered numeric where it was supposed to and in Newscopier it entered alphabets in the fields where it was supposed to. BTW in my earlier post above, i stated that i owned the Dash, where as I actually own the HTC s620, sorry.
it depends on the application, for example tomtom. it would work properly if they updated the app.

What's wrong then with my already second s620 unit?
I wished it would work like you're saying.
OK let's try another one. A note in Smartphonenotes which starts with an "A".
When I press "A" on the alpha-keyboard, it does not react. The key "A" does simply not exist. But when I press the "E (2)" key, it is being recognized as an "A" according to the nummeric (T9) scheme.
The same is in TomTom, the same is in Java based apps like Googlemaps, in .NET based apps like Remote Desktop Control. The issue here is that all these applications do recognize all the keys which do have 2 functions (alpha and nummeric = wer, sdf, xcv) are treated like nummeric ones. And last but not least, the A key on the left (the first one original alpha key) does not work at all in that applications.

Note with 'A' also working fine. Sorry i dont have TomTom or a .NET based application, but applications i have work just fine.
Might there be an issue with my ROM? I can say that I'm a quite experienced WM user and wouldn't bother you with this if it was not proved. OK simply forget it, I'm waiting now for the unbranded Treo 750.

Text entry issue...cont'
I have a Blackjack and Smartphonenotes installed. Also having the same problem as Fire - e.g. when I press "B", the program lists all my notes beginning with "T". Anybody with a solution? Thanks.
Ok guys,
I feel like a real idiot! I've just upgraded from 3VOLUTION ROM 3.00.112509 to 3.50.033010 and now when I use certain Java applications (not Opera Mini) I cant use the number keys to type letters. For example, when I try to type a "w" it comes out as a "1".
I think I may have had this problem when I first installed the 3.00.112509 ROM but I can't remember how I fixed it now and I really need to use these Java apps today!!
Can somebody help me please? I have already tried going to Start - Tools - Keymap Customizer - Set to UK Keyboard Layout and then rebooting but it didn't seem to work.
I have this one Java app that I can't log in to because my username and password both use letters that are on the number keys. I think before I may have had to cycle through the letters and numbers to type - so it was like the "1" key was "a/b/c/1" like a regular non-QWERTY phone. That would be fine, I just really need to enter the letters on the numeric keys.
Can anyone help me please? It's pretty urgent!
Same problem here
I managed to get around the problem by downloading versions of the Java apps that are meant for a different phone.
I did this by using the User Agent Switcher add-on in Firefox to fool certain websites into thinking that I am trying to download the Java app directly to a phone, such as a Sony Ericsson K750i. I then installed the downloaded .jar files successfully on my HTC S620. I can use the numeric keys to cycle through the letters I need to use. It's not an ideal solution but it works.
I know it has got to be something simple, but I want an SSH server on the Andriod OS, but to do so I need access to keys chars such as / and " ..., but I can not get the FN key which should be in the "Shift Ctrl" position to work. Best solution would be to have the keyboard mapping exactly as it appears on the Tilt2, second best would be to have it work with a standard mapping and not AT&T's. yet so far I can figure out neither.
Thanks,
ERIC

When I use the Tilt2 keyboard mapping when booting into Android, I have a fully functional Tilt2 keyboard, including the Fn keys...
Do you have this entry in your startup.txt set cmdline section?:
physkeyboard=tilt2

Im looking at my keyboard right now, and neither the / nor the " require the FN key to use them.... they are their own button. On top of that, my FN key works perfect, otherwise I wouldnt be able to use the numberpad. So what exactly are you talking about? lol
The "Tilt2" is only the name for the AT&T branded TP2. If you have a different handset other than that, you need to match that to the device you have using the startup utility (MJGDroidUtil.exe).
I'm gonna guess he is just running the harret.exe and not the util that lets you set your config. you need to run the the other exe mjutil something or other and it will let you pick your keyboard then it should all work fine
Did anybody found a way to get rid of the smilie face on the sip? I hate it when typing an email for example since the spacebar gets really small when also having a multiple language keyboard. The smilie face is something nice for chat maybe but useless for emails. So is there a way to change the email SIP, probably in the registry to a SIP with the same functionality but without this smilie face?
Try this registry hack:
Code:

this should be working, indeed. But unfortunately the registry editor just crashes up on modifying. Is there a way to make this into (reversible) .xap for samsung devices? I know these things exsist which modify the registry, but I have not found an open source one yet which I can modify to do this registry edit.
Thanks for the help!

I'll make a special version of my Native Keyboard application for you in the evening. It will contain this patch in reversible form.

This one is for english keyboard only. Do you need that for other languages too?
Hi Denominator77
Concerning these changes on the layout of the keyboards, I have a question. When I tried to write an e-mail address or a user name of the outlook / exchange configuration the space key is not available (instead of writing a space just move the position of the cursor). I do not know if just for this kinds of fields WM7 use another layout of the keyboard as the ',' is also not available. This is a problem because I need to write a space in my exchange user name as it has the format 'name surname'.
Do you think that it is possible to change the layout of this keyboard or do you build one which force the use of the spaces?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Kata. It does not seem to be a layout related issue. The space button is available in that mode. But the input field does not accept spaces.
As I know, user name cannot contain spaces. Maybe you are trying to enter your display name (Name Surname), not the system login. Try to enter your email address without @server part.
Hi denominator77,
Thanks for your answer, the user name has a space and I used with a lot of phones and PDA (windows mobile 5 ,6, 6.5; Android or Symbian) without problems, also the resto of my colleagues at my organization (for everybody user name has two words name and surname)
I think I am not the only one who are suffering, for instance : http://social.answers.microsoft.com...7/thread/3cd68f96-3037-4f57-ac6a-83bc030aeec6
Regards
P.S. Of course, I already tried to enter a lot of options as just the surname, name.surname, the complete e-mail address as username.

You can extract the xap and modify xml files.
Also look in the following topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917886
Maybe I already have implemented a keyboard for your language.

No, it's not possible at the moment.
Hi,
I know this is a topic that has already been talked about a lot, but after going through many pages in different threads and a lot of experimenting, I still haven't found a complete solution.
I am using a Tilt 2 using a Titanium Energy ROM and am looking for a solution for Hebrew input. I have tried 3 cabs so far: HD2_HebrewEnabled_v1.2", "HebrewHD2", and "Uniscribe".
I have discovered that some apps work better with Hebrew then others. Word, OneNote, Phatnotes, etc. have a cursor problem with all three cabs (the cursor stays to the right, and after typing has a "mirror" effect and if you try to place it in a sentence to select text or edit, it will not actually insert or select there but at a different point). Notepad and PhatPad do not have this cursor problem.
The first 2 cabs have a problem with mixed text (heb & eng) in Word, etc. Uniscribe has a problem always putting punctuation to the right even in Notepad (the first two cabs are fine with this in all apps).
Has anyone found a cab that solves all?
Thanks
UPDATE!
After doing more searching, I found another cab at this thread "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554802" called simply "Hebrew.cab" and it is actually better then the other 3 I had tried. It allows mixed text and does fine with punctuation, the only remaining problem is the cursor in Word, etc.
I also wanted to detail some other things I came up with in my research. To get Hebrew on the hard keyboard I am using AEk mapper. A while back I found a layout provided by a generous member (OSM or rbroudo?) and I made up my own phonetic layout, bec I found using stickers very impractical. I found that I could also set a different shortcut to the Home key, w/o interfering with AEK.
Acrobat Reader 2.0 works well with Hebrew and has a rich feature set, you just have to reverse your input when entering a search term.
Ulrich Grieve has a Hebrew Reader for viewing Palm text files.
I found an epub reader called "Freda" which also works with html that works with Hebrew. I found (on html at least) that the settings that worked are "Force Line Direction = RTL", "Force Word Direction = LTR" (I also set encoding to utf8 but don't know if that is necessary).
Perhaps this will be useful for you (if it's been updated for 6.1/6.5):

Thanks for the response
I checked the website and highest listed is 6.0 In any case my experience with that software in the past wasn't so great and I am looking for a free solution.
All in all, despite a few quirks, I am pretty happy with the Hebrew situation now. WP7 doesn't support Hebrew at all. Symbian doesn't have anywhere near all the options I mentioned in post #2, not does Maemo on the n900.
Does anyone know how well Android is doing?
Hebrew for Touch pro 2
Hi
I'm a newbe i would like to be able to read and write Hebrew for Touch pro 2
(not change any menu)
What files do i need to install (can you post a link)
(I tried installing Hebrew support only.cab file from the_dude
I get hebrew words but not RTL)
Which ROM are you using?
I found the attached .cab file to work very well with the "Energy" ROM (I use the Titanium with enhanced Mobile Shell), I don't know if it works as well with the stock ROM.
(see my earlier post #2 for more tips)
If it doesn't work well I could give you other links
