I was just wondering if it was possible to make a .zip file to restore our phones to Factory fresh-ish?
Heres my thinking: If we did a Factory Reset from the phone that wipes everything, sd included, then boot into CWM or TWRP Recovery because it would still be there, I believe, wipe everything in Recovery, then install the .zip? The .zip would have Root, CWM or TWRP Recovery and all the stock files.
Question is...Would this allow us to not have to use LGNPST? Or would there still be files stuck that would make us use LGNPST?[/SIZE]
Hope that all makes sense.

That would be nice. But I can't imagine it to be more useful that lgnpst. Think of it like Odin for the Samsung phones.
True. But Odin is simple and easy to get. Im just trying to think of an easier way to fix our phones when we mess em up.

Under recovery just wipe system/cache and dalvik cache.
All was wiped but the sd card part. was still there. Was that what you meant?
My idea or thought in the OP was to make something as available as Odin that could fix borked phones. LGNPST isn't as readily available. I think the stock v8 .zip is as close as we can get. It was a thought.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
But, arent ZIPs useless if the phone is really bricked and cant even boot into recovery? Isnt that the advantage LGNPST has?
Unless it was an update.zip like factory recovery. I don't think what im thinking can be done.

I am currently using ClockWorkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2. The last few times I have tried to backup a ROM, I get : Error finding an appropriate backup handler. This happens at the end of the backup after it looks like everything is okay. Does anybody know what this means and how it can be corrected? I don't like flashing new ROM's without doing a Nandroid Backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you!

You need to take that avatar down and put one up of Jesse "shizzle" would never come out of Heisenberg's mouth. But yes it is better imo and lots of others. Has a better track record with this phone as well. Install it through goomanager from the play store.

I agree about TWRP. Boyh are great in their own right, but I prefer TWRP by a longshot! Even has a built in file manager!
Don't worry, we were all nervous our first times!!
Seriously though, only took a few min and I was hooked!
On your problem, does cwm see both int and ext sdcards?
If it comes to it, connect to pc over usb and adb pull both /system and /data. Also internal sd.
At least you'll have some sort of backup and then id suggest odin flashing stock firmware.
Good luck!

Backups were glitchy for me on cwm. I switched to TWRP and there's no looking back for me.
Im going to try twrp and see how it works. Thanks
I'm on cwm and backups have been fine. Why don't you redownload cwm and make sure you rwflash your appropriate recovery. I've NEVER had problems with cwm unless I messed with the folder or something.

Hey guys, and so you know, I have rooted my vibrant, but i just have a few questions i could not find the answer to,weirdly
1. Factory unlock needed? Is there a different root procedure ( wouldnt be suprised)
2. The possibility of hardbricking, high or low.
3. Can I restore a backup of a different version of android if possible, and do i just need to wipe cache etc to flash the same version of android.
Thanks in advanced and sorry if this is noobish, just dont really have a lot of time due to school.

1. Factory unlock...? The easiest way (at least for me) was using Odin to inject root into stock ROM.
2. As with any tinkering/modding with any Android device, there is always a risk of hard bricking, but if you follow the procedures carefully, you shouldn't run into any issues.
3. Not sure what you really mean, but as i always say, it's always best to flash fresh (full wipe)
hope this helps, good luck!
1) unlock not needed but if you want u can do it for free; check general section
2) less possibility of hard bricking unless u flash rom for different phone ; dont forget to backup imei number ; high possibility of loosing it.
3) restore from diffwrent version highly not recommend if you want bug free phone.
And that is how you turn you're soon to be rooted phone into a rocket ship with fireworks coming out of it!

And also, i want confirm because my friend said clockwork will be wiped after first reboot after using, is this true? Or does is stay for as long as you wish.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Umm, the clockwork recovery? It stays forever.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Hey man. Welcome over to this side of the fence.
The Recovery gets saved into the recovery partition and will stay until you switch it out with another (TWRP) or stock. So that is a non-issue.
Being a fellow ex-Vibe user, I understand your questions. Same as the Vibrant you can flash/restore laterally and not have any issues as long as you wipe, reset, usual stuff. But also same as the Vibrant, you should not go from ICS to JB or JB 4.2 and back without a clean install (can always upgrade but going back is where issues come into play). And by clean install I mean Odin to reset the proper partitions. That is another thing. You should probably update your Odin. There is a thread around here with it or just get your Google on.
If you are on stock TWiz, you can use (your recently updated) Odin to flash mrRobinson's Root66 and it will be stock ROM but with Root. Way easier than the Update.zip scene we had on the Vibrant.
Another thing is that the internal is set up differently. The internal is set up as a /data/media partition. This means that if you Factory Reset with the Stock recovery, you will effectively wipe your whole internal SD. However, if you use CWR or TWRP, they won't wipe your internal SD unless you Format Data. I learned that the hard way on my tablet about a year ago.
Good luck

Its not the only way to root it, but if you do it that way you won't lose things in your SD anyway, only your data like apps and stuff.. An easier way is to just flash clockwork mod and flash superuser which will give you root, it will however trip your flash counter.. I've done it both ways

Okay go here -http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote2/SPH-L900- and download these 2 files.
One is a Sprint LJ1 stock rom. (Flash through Odin on PC)
The 2nd is the flashable zip of LJ1 to LJC (do it though TWRP or CWM)
Make sure to make a backup of your apps and data because it does a restore.
There you go

wierd that someone would send you to another site to DL files, files that you can get here with actual instructions on how to use them. (really? ODIN one thing, then CWM another? Just to get stock? smh)
and then for a person to send you to do this without mentioning the HFA errors and Chameloen FCs that you get from reverting to an earlier ROM from the LK8 leak, and how to fix that.

I am including a version of Billard's TWRP, (original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769) to make it easier for you to revert to LJC. What I do, coming from LK8, is the usual prescribed wipes, before flashing any rom, but I also wipe with the new Carrier button under the wipe menu. When you first boot the new rom, it will rebuild the wiped carrier partition automatically and reboot. Once rebooted, the Handsfree Activation will begin, and the Chameleon errors will no longer be a problem.
This recovery is a godsend.
If you want to go back to any other recovery afterwards, just ODIN your chosen recovery, or flash one, whichever format of recovery you downloaded. I usually just download Goo Manager from the Play store, and install the official TWRP from OpenRecovery Script.
This is a recovery zip file you can flash with the recovery you have now.
Hope this helps, and Billard, I could not find a link to your recovery (found it!! Updated to your original link now). If there's a problem with me sharing your recovery, let me know!
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=2472 << chose the one with carrier wipe!
As always, proceed with caution, and I am NOT resposible for any and all problems you may run into.
Thanks so much.

what I did was I flashed the custom recovery by Billard, then I flashed the LJC_Stock_With_Count_Reset[FINAL].zip and that put me in a boot loop. I then booted my phone to download mode and flashed COMBINATION_L900VPALJC_CL434243_HWID04_HW_Rev0406_user.tar.md5. The result was my note 2 back to stock with stock recovery and 4.1.1 ljc! If you were to flash the COMBINATION_L900VPALJC_CL434243_HWID04_HW_Rev0406_user.tar.md5 without first at least installing the custom recovery and wiping the carrier settings I know that the combination tar will fail and you'll be stuck with a kies message. If you follow my steps your phone should also go through with the combination.tar file and put you back to unrooted, stock, ljc. Hope this helps someone.
