Hello,
I want to flash a custom rom to my Galaxy Gio, but before, I want to make a backup for the device, I guessed using CWM Recovery will be good, so I searched about it, I read that it may brick my phone when using if with an rfs filesystem, which is my case because I use a stock rom and want to flash the new rom.
Any help or advice about backing up my phone which has stock rom ??

Wi-Fi problems ?
Like ?
Currently I don't have any problem with Wi-Fi
Did you already rooted your phone. You need to root your phone before flashing custom roms. There is a chance your phone get bricked but when you read very much and do exactly what the guides says there's no problem.

Yes I did, and I know there is always a chance, it depends on how much you follow instructions. But is it related to filesystem ?
U can't backup stock rom via CWM. Moreover, u need to have only CWM to flash custom roms(which are pre-rooted).
Hope this helps...!!!

your argument is invalid.
you can backup a stock rom, as long as you gained root acces and are using the right version of CWM

Well, It bricked when I made a restore from that stock ROM backup, now fixed it and restoring things back manually.

Hi! I have a question. Is it possible to make some kind of super reset to Galaxy Gio so it will look like out of the box if i need to take it back to the shop? I hope some one can answer my question.
W/ best,
Jyrx.
Factory reset - resets all to default.
Clear cache, dalvik etc, then flash a stock rom if you have flashd roms before, delete superuser.apk if you had root acces ... Stock rom flash required if you used clockworkmod recovery and custom roms or boot.img..

Will flashing a stock rom remove clockworkmod recovery aswell?

Yes , if you flash a stock rom via odin, you can see ut also writes recovery.rfs or something like that.

Flash an official firmware by ODIN and your phone will be like first time - Stock Recovery, no root, etc.
Hi guys, i want flash Cyanogen Mod 7.2 on my phone, but I need Clockwork Recovery Mod First. In the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650), under 5.0.2.7, there is options for either ext4 or ext4+rfs. I am currently using stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread, which one should i use?
Ext4 + rfs
Sent from my GT-S5660
Thank you very much! If i may ask, what is the reasoning behind that? Also, i am looking to install Cyanogen mod 7.2. Should i install the ext4 formatter? It says
"If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. Otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!"
Does this apply to me?
Its for newer version of CWM wich is under construction, I flashed from stock but extformatter isnf needed

I flashed from stock also, but alway get stuck at backing up cache
I managed to make a backup ones, but that one had hash check errors.
I asked a couple of times in the original thread, and even pm'ed Phiex.
But it seems I'm on everyones ignore list

Try to roll back first to ginger and then flash it again start from flashing cwm, i recommend using phiex rom, it's stable and not too difficult to flash

Already tried that.
I went from 2.3.5, S5660OXXKS2 which had WiFi (baseband) problems to Russian S5660XXKS5

I know how to flash a custom rom, but I really don't want to flash it yet, because I'm (patiently ) waiting until CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0-GT-S5660-GalaxyICS-KANG-beta5 is ready.
And I agree that would probably fix it, but only because the system partition get's formatted to EXT4.
I just want to be able to backup my rooted RFS stockrom before flashing a custom rom.
PS.
Sorry for hijjacking this topic, didn't mean to do that.
hey everyone
is there a way to do all those cool thing you guys talk about WITHOUT using cmw? because my last gio crashed while flashig it with the android third recovery and i had to buy a new one...
what do you want to do? you can't flash custom roms with the stock recovery. you cant do backups. you can only wipe data with the stock recovery (and flash zips)
and btw if you want to flash the cwm recovery DONT use rom manager (or whatever the app is called)
are you sure?
totally brick while u flash CMW??

Dude 1 of the most important requirements of rooting and using other custom rom is the CWM!
Hi guys!
I have updated to mk9 official
Flased with odin
Root with philz&supersu 1.65
Everything ok, until a had to restore a CM backup
When i tried to restore the stock rom, it remains stuck on samsung logo
Any solution? Any ideea why?
All responses will be appreciated. Thank you!

Could be the new Bootloader blocking you
Try flashing a CM rom and then try restoring the backup.
Thank for the fast reply. I.ll try and post the result.
The fact is i can restore an old stock backup (mi6), but not the new one (mk4)

It didn.t work, my friends! Nothing!
I.ve flashed MK4 on top of MI6 with mobile odin, clear data, root etc, backup with philz, cannot restore the backup!
The os is working great, but I cannot restore backup. It remains stuck on bootanimation.
I.ve void my knox warranty, so i.ll try everything, as long as it works!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
The only thing I can think is something must be wrong with your backups.
Once you restored have you tried to wipe the device? Does it boot fully?
I use phills recovery to restore my device every time I test a new project and have no issues.

Thank you @faria
I.ve tried that too
Restore - not booting - forced recovery mode - wipe data - reboot - boot animation...

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932327.
If it does not work you may have a partition corrupted, get an official 4.1 rom and a PIT file, flash the 2 files together via odin with repartition checked. Good luck.

thank you for the advice!
I.ve flashed the fixer, flashed philz again and the same problem...
now i.m downloading an 4.1.2 firmware to see what can i do
the problem is ONLY with 4.3 new bootloader frimwares, because i can restore without problem CM roms and MI6 rom
that.s why I thought it was because of the new bootloader, and not because of the partition...
anyway, yhamk you again for your advice. I.ll flash 4.1.2 and post the results
@faria
my friend,
it was bad
I tried to flash 4.1.2 with pit: UNSUPPORTED VERSION
tried to flash your rom with PC odin: UNSUPPORTED VERSION
I managed to flash the latest MK4 for my country...
should I flash it with the pit file?
Now I don.t know if I should stay on this without the possibility of restoring a nandroid backup, or just use the MI6 backup
anyway, there will always by CM
thank you for your help!
I will watch the forum and I will keep to date

Tried that too, nothing..
Tried to flash the patch on top of mk9, error
Tried to flash mj5 bootloader, error
Couldn.t find the whole mj5 firware but i think it would be unsupported
So, i.ll just wait and hope that some smart people here, like dr.ketan or faria will do some tricks for us with the new mk9 bootloader
Thank all for your help, especially @faria

Jellybean i don't remember 4.2.2 or something like that.
1. Flash temp cwm( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141395)
2. Flash custom rom
If you have status 7 errors flashing other KK roms, (set meta data etc), flash cm11 first.
