Hi, i'm new to galaxy w world, and i'm reading about custom kernel (castagnaI, forfivos and hadi), but i'm not sure on what is better for my phone...
is there any comparison chart, or similiar, that can help users choosing? I mean, there are so many variables to take in consideration, like RAM, voltage and battery life, hd video recording and so on..and it's difficult for a newbie to get to the point, if you know what i mean
I think castagnaI has a great one, but his latest release gave us more ram by losing 720p recording. Hadi's kernel is also great, but the version that he posted with more ram anda working camera got a few reports that day it is not so stable(I use it and it is GREAT). Forvivo has the best JB kernel and a good ICS kernel.
Sent from my GT-I8150
So, to have a good mem and a working camera (720p i mean), you suggest hadi's kernel? What about forvivo for ICS? I'm running latest CM9
Forfivo ICS is stopped I guess. But if you want to, experiment around with his v3 and v1.
You may wanna keep a copy of v1 in your memory card because so far I used its the most stable kernel for everyday usage, but certainly not gaming needs.
To my opinion I don't think I'll capture any precious moments using my phone. SD quality is far more than enough for me to store in my phone if needed, so a little sacrifice is okay. But maxmem is just abit off, unless you don't mind using a few mins to swap flash everytime between your game time and afterso.

i confirm this issue too. after using my kernel for a day the packet data is sometime "lost". maybe this is due to SFB (i think), because after building a test kernel with reverted network scheduler the packet data problem is definitely fixed.
castagna's is great one, i used it about a month and it fits my needs of battery life. but beware that in some hardware extreme UV maybe unstable
forfivo's ics kernel gives nice stability. somepeople prefer v1 over v2 or v3. for the JB kernel you are given choice of bigmem ram and stock stock ram. bigmem sacrifice HD playback and recording for bigger RAM(better multitasking)
overall i still love my own kernel(i don't mean to promote my own kernel and discredit other kernel). i set my own clock freq to 1GHz and phone still runs very smooth which means more battery life for me and cpu governor perfectly fits the daily needs
Thanks for your complete answers!
My need is for a smooth and fast phone, with much of is hardware features available, a minimum daily battery life, and some good multitasking. I'm not so interested in gaming.... With this conditions, what I should test?

you can test castagna or forfivo's first. i am quite aware that my kernel will not be good for internet (at least for the latest release with sfb activated, need time to test everything for next release )

If you don't game, a good suggestion is to use hadi's or castagnal's bigmem, with no HD recording.
Then underclock max frequency to around 1ghz. Your battery life will be obviously prolonged
btw, connection problem in my kernel has been fixed i guess
having clock 1GHz is enough for me, that quite prolong my battery life

I'm not a gamer, but I like hd recording. I'd like to use all the stuff of this phone. Maybe I could wait until hadi's fixed kernel is out. In the meantime, I could underclock to 1ghz to save battery life.
How can I see the amount of ram that kernel made available, from the phone?

hmm you can try the one "my own config" or "hadiconfig" it has 376-377 available RAM with hd recording working. i've been using this config for about 4days but still nothing goes wrong to my phone

Go to Settings, About Phone(most likely the last option)
There will be a section about how many ram you have.
I've 352MB of ram available. 20/40mb would improve performance and multitasking significantly?
What governor is better with 1Ghz?
Inviato dal mio GT-I8150 con Tapatalk 2
for me it's quite good for multitasking
i tweaked lulzactive and smartassv2. i'm quite sure lulzactive has a good prospect as one of the smoothest and most battery saving governor. if you are unsure you can use smartassv2

The way you type, its assumed you're using JB. Use forfivo v2. For now JB does not have alot of kernel developers. Or you can try hadi's JB kernel for gaming purposes.

Go to CWM wipe cache/dalvik cache, Flash the kernel then reboot. Some kernels don't need wiping, the dev will write when it doesn't need

Hello XDA forum,
I am new here, and I was wondering..
I have rarity ROM v3.9.7,
the rom is amazing but I am unsure of the kernel I should be using.
What I want from the kerenl: Battery life is the most importent part, but also smoothness and stability.
I saw 2 options but I am unable to decice:
1: Siyah V 2.2 beta 9 kernel
2: Speedmod K2-18-test 3
I do not want to OC or mess around with voltages, I just want a good kernel for daily uses with good battery life.
Any suggestions?
Speedmod is working fine with me.
Good battery life , smoothness and stability

use speedmod..download the latest version and do not touch anything and you should be fine..just flash like normal mate
hello i have the same question
i flash speedmod kernel with cwm but i have problem with cwm (without full fonctions )?
Any other suggestions?
As Post 4 said, Speed Mod it should be.
Now it all depends on you. If you want a kernel with UV/UC potential with a lot of Governors then go for Siyah, but if you are like me, who loves simple things, then Speed Mod should be the one.
K2-18 is still under observation by Hardcore, as well as K2-17. The last fixed release is K2-16. Now you choose which one you want.
Regards.
Thank you for your answer,
I want the version which is most stable, reliable, and long lasting battery there is.

Corrected siyah for flexibility lot of options totally customizable.
If correctly done better battery life than speedmod or in another way awesome performance.
SpeedMod no nonsense install forget. Good battery life and rock stable.

I'm currently using Siyahkernel 2.2beta9 (later does have launcher-lag Q.Q for me) with the lulzactive guvernor. I've tried a lot of different kernels and I find this one to be the best considering perfomance, smoothness and batterylife. I've used the kernel to greatly undervolt both my CPU and GPU with great stability. I do recommend this one.
EDIT: Using the 14th beta and it's awesome! (ment undervolt before, not underclock!)
I'm currently using Siyah 2.1 with SavagedZen governer. Battery life is excellent and performance not bad either - more than suitable for my needs.
As other posters have suggested, Speedmod is a great 'flash and forget' kernel with good battery life and performance - very balanced. I'd give it a go if you don't want to mess about with undervolting or governers
By the way, your posted this question in the wrong forum this is SGS2 Accessories forum...
Many people using Android handset confused about making decision on which rom they will be using for daily activities...
Gio, as middle devices, has gotten upgrade from Froyo to Gingerbread, and the ported developed ICS rom still seems pretty difficult to be used for daily activity coz the problems of camera, video acceleration, and else...
But overall, even the ICS has excellent performance, still cannot wait for the more excellent release! (major dev: Macław #Work Hard!)
Let's share all things to make the handset stable and smooth for daily use!
SO LET'S NOW SETTLE THIS PROBLEM BY SOLVING TOGETHER

is possile to undervolting the kernel of our phone such as galaxy s or s2?
my gs2 with ninphetamine kernel have a good battery life, around 24h with standard battery, 3g always on, and whatsapp sync, and at least 3,5h of display. i have undervolted ad undercloked my phone at 1ghz.
i have done the same thing at my SGW, i have only undercloked the cpu to 1ghz.
in short... i want to improve at max battery life..
Sorry for my bad english
its bad that no1 replies to us abt undervolting cuz we would really benefit from using it to extend our battery

I do not want to comment on others' work. Just do not undervolt it and everything will be safe. U can always flash another kernel. DXLM3 or XXLM8, they are good in performance.

CWG's Slim n V4 ROM uses two diff kernel from arco68 GitHub n is not that aggressive designed for none OC n OC respectively.
I have declared that if you want stable no FC go for these.
If you want OC for V4 running at 1.6GHz 24x7....I certify it is stable but the one thing lack is that Neo Instructions integrated in Bionic V2 which drives the quality of the graphics display but the kernel made by CWG is too aggressive of which some users may face BS etc.

BTW, what is BS?
Even in Hybrid 2, many experience lag. Is it because of the kernel or V6 script which has high LMK? I just wanna ensure MOST PEOPLE what the main problem would be.
One more thing, are u using Hybrid 2?
Because i wanna ask you how can i re-supercharge it?
The V6 that Rio put is integrated with init.d as well as build.prop, that's why i do not know how to re-supercharge in this case.
lag?
I been using the Blacknote 2nd Gen since it release, and it is 1st time I flash a custom rom.
its v6 default set to Super UL (125mb ram) which really smooth, but too high so me, so I re-supercharge it into multitasking which is 75mb free ram since I flashed and restore app+data from TB. Everything went smooth.
even 3-4days ram always maintain at 65-80mb ram. quite ok for me.
I also hear in FB galaxy W forum many face lag in blacknote 2nd but not me.
maybe I re-supercharge it? hrm ...
and in the FB galaxy W forum group got developer makes some tweak using latest stock kernel and many use it and commented bring better improvement and stability.

Bro,
How did u re-supercharge it??
Because the V6 in Hybrid is integrated with init.d but not just with build.prop alone.
In the Samsung W group, what did the "developer" did when tweaking the latest stock kernel?
Because in my view, the "developer" DID NOT tweak any kernel but he just replace Hybrid's kernel with stock kernel. That's it.

Hi everyone!
I'm not very experienced in android stuff so i'm going to post a screenshot to make it easier. i'm currently running these(screenshot in attachament)
What should i update or change to increase my battery life? I currently can't get over a 8-9hrs average batery lifetime. I also would like to remain with PA rom.
I heard some things that changing kernel will improve battery but i also dont want to lose any performance.
Thx,
green^
there is no best, every device is different and every user has different needs. its suggested that you try different kernels and find the one that you and your device likes the best.
Can u give me any suggestion? For eg. what do u use?

Ex : for ~1h of games (HOC, Road Trip...), ~100 SMS, ~20 min call, ~ 2-3h of internet (twitter, Facebook, G+, ...)
I've 1 day of battery life and everything is fluid and fast with Franco kernel 342 (Xylon 011)

So you want suggestion? I would say go for popular kernels first and then flash different kernels when you have time to see which one fits you the most. The first kernel I went for is Trinity and Franco and I have to say, they are definitely my pick when it comes to kernels.

I use the Trinity kernel paired with the Rasbean Jelly ROM.. I love that combo
try AK kernel..it gives very good battery life without sacrificing performance.
I'm running CodenameAndroid and love it. I've tried Tiny Kernel, Franco's milestone 6, and Trinity. For me, I like Franco's the best and get a day of battery life with Moderate use, usually. I live in an area where signal is terrible so I attribute most of my battery problems to that.

I will try franco, thx.
Offtopic: what is your max score in quadrant?

When you ask which kernel you will get 4 different suggestions like you did above lol. Here's another one, personally I don't use Franco I like Trinity and AK kernels.
Also, quadrant scores mean NOTHING but if you like to live off getting high scores in quadrant AK kernel destroys quadrant scores.
